Holdahl: Nicolas Batum To Play 2 For France
Casey Holdahl of Blazers.com previews the World Championships from the French perspective...
--------------------------
Teaming up with Beaubois to comprise the longest backcourt in the world in terms of wingspan is something Batum has been looking forward to. With Parker, Turiaf and Mickael Pietrus all sitting out, France’s best chance to advance to the medal round could very well come down to whether Batum and Beaubois can lockdown their opponents on defense while working the drive-and-kick on offense.
"That's a good backcourt," said Nate McMillan of the Beaubois/Batum tandem. "It's going to be young like (Team USA’s). Nicolas at the two? I would like to see that."
--------------------------
Roddy Beaubois had a somewhat disappointing Las Vegas Summer League (he was slowed by injury) but he's as captivating as it gets.

Me too Nate…Except I want to see it here in PDX with Roy at the point. Since Nic can guard a lot of PG’s, it would allow Roy to guard the SG’s. I’m not saying that you could pull it off full time, but I would like to at least see it for short stretches.

With the Roy-Matthews-Batum lineup
Nic would essentially be playing a SG/Wing role along with Matthews. I think we can expect to see that.
fearless controlled aggression
YES
Wesley can handle a bit. That’s going to make that lineup work in spurts. This team is poised to win 51 games by an average score of 94-89.

too bad we probably won't be able to watch it
I tried FIBA TV but its “unavailable” stateside. I checked ESPN and so far they only have the US games on their tv schedule. I’m an addict and I need a fix
streaming may be the best opportunity

here
Roddy Beaubois was a flat out warmup freak. So smooth, effortless with the dribble each direction, nailing shot after shot after shot from all angles and all situations. Focused throughout. Next year, why even think twice about the novelty act of JJ Barea when, with a full summer of refining his game behind him, Beaubois has so much breakout potential? On talent and upside, I wouldn’t trade Beaubois for Darren Collison. Could Beaubois do what Collison has done this season for New Orleans in Chris Paul’s absence? Possibly. Would Collison get any run if he played for the Mavs, stuck behind veterans Kidd, Terry and Barea as they make a championship push? Probably not. I suppose that’s why you always hear about the importance of “opportunity” in the NBA.

So would
PG: Roy
SG: Batum
SF: Matthews
PF: Aldridge
C: Greg
Be out best 4th quarter option. This was posted before, but now with Batum as the 2. Can they be stopped?!
Of couse I realize everything I say here means nothing.
In K.P. I STILL trust.

Need a 4th qtr stop?
Sub in Camby for LMA.

Ouch.
Definitely our way of stopping Miami. or anyone else that gets in our way.

depends on opposing games PG
Roy can’t defend the likes of Chris Paul, Aaron Brooks or Billups so strong, fast PG would NOT be ideal scenario to run this squad…

Which one of the three is not like the others?
Billups is not a small quick PG

Przybilla is recovering nicely.
I’m up for a Camby-Oden-Przy frontcourt.
Do it! Do it! Do it 'til you're satisfied!
I don't think Batum has the handles (yet?) to take on SG full time.
But no harm in trying it out when it doesn’t effect the Blazers.

We would have a better idea of that
If plays were run for him.

They do run plays for him in France
and he has the handles there. Why not see what he can do in the NBA after this summer?
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
Nando de Colo
I’d assume Nando de Colo will be France’s 2-guard. He was Beaubois’s backcourt partner when both played in the French league. De Colo was drafted by the Spurs last year but was not signed by them.
this will great for improving his skills for next year if nothing else.
I hate the idea of him being hurt, but this stuff is going to be great for him.
So true.
He just needs experience and confidence with his dribble. The rest of his game is pretty dynamic.

Batum would play 4 for the Warriors.
Who cares. He’s a wing. If he gets a better handle he’ll be a better wing.

what's wrong with his handle?
Batum is a perfectly fine name.

POINT FORWARD!
I love the idea of him being able to work with the ball but the fact that he’s shown that he can play with out the ball is great.
Just knowing he can use that skill in offense will make him that more dangerous.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
