Haters Unite!
First off, don't get me wrong, when I say I "hate" certain players, teams, etc, that doesn't mean I dont have respect for what they can do, it just means I can't freakin stand them, for whatever number of reasons. I usually direct most of my feelings towards western conference teams who are rivals, with the occasional east coast team. There are a number of individual players I just hate b/c of how they act on and off the court. I could go on and on but this post isnt about listing everyone I hate and why, I want to know who YOU love to hate and in particular, WHY? Again, this doesnt mean you necessarily dont respect their game (unless of course you really do, then tell me about it)
just to get things started, here are mere few examples from my own personal point of view:
The Lakers - I wont even mention my hatred for the Lakers b/c that which is understood need not be discussed.
Boston - In the past few years I have hated the Celtics b/c I mostly hate KG and his cussing, bully smaller guys but shrink from a big dude, trash talkin, cuss some more, punk-ass-self. I am also tired of Boston having so many damn titles, time to share the wealth.
Miami - Now with Miami's big 3 super team, my hatred has arisen. I used to really like Dwade but some of his recent quotes have really made me start to hate him. I was neutral on Bosh (at one point I wanted him as a Blazer) but now he's a superfriend. I've been a LeBron hater for awhile anyway because he acts like he is so entitled to be the greatest player of all time and win 100 titles and be a billionaire, blah, blah, blah it makes me sick, not to mention his televised debacle of a move from Cleveland, that was just classless and rude.
OKC - They are NOT the new western conference champions for years to come, they have not supplanted us as the best young up and coming team in the league, they left Seattle! and "Oden vs. Durant".... Ahhhhh I HATE OKC!
Charles freakin Barkley - 400lbs, loud mouth, no title winning idiot, I hate Barkely sooooo much.
OK, I'm getting kinda heated now (and it feels so good) but I'll give you guys a chance to vent, who do you hate and why - go for it!!

I pretty much stopped hating all those teams/people except for Boston. OKC gets on my nerves a little because I get sick of reading about them on a Blazers blog. I think Miami is going to a lot of fun to watch this year.

It's funny
my hate for the L*kers has been eclipsed by my hate for Boston. I’m not quite sure when this happened and I’m a little surprised with it.

It happened
They day they landed KG.
I actually used to like Boston, back in the 80’s. Of course, I liked Portland more. The odd thing was, I liked Magic Johnson as a player, but didn’t like the Lakers. Liked Boston, but didn’t really care for Bird. lol

Yeah Hate OKC owners!
I’m really kind of luke warm toward the OKC team. They haven’t beaten us in the western conference finals. I do hate the Lakers for reasons mentioned in article. I have a unrealistic fear based dislike for Utah, but no dislike for Pheonix or Houston who knocked us out of the play offs the last two season. I was cheering for Pheonix against the Lakers. I hate the Lakers! I think I will develop a strong dislike of Miami this year, I just don’t feel it yet, though I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think of them becoming a sub .500 team.
The important thing is to hate the Lakers!
Except Steve Blake, unless of course he takes out one of Oden’s knee.
Steve Blake has got to be one of the toughest, grittiest point guards in the NBA who can’t play defense.
I hate laker fans too because the friend of my enemy is a … whatever I just really hate the lakers.
In KP We Trust
I like the team.
KD is probably one of my if not my favorite non Blazer, but as an organization I despise them.

Agreed. I hate C.B. I pretty much hate the fans. I can’t help myself from liking the team itself… and really like Durant. I think he is going to be absolutely dominant for many years to come and he seems to be smart, well adjusted dude.
me too
I know if I were a fan of that team I would be absolutely in love with them. I am pissed for what happened to Seattle though. Just not cool.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
Yep, I'd have to agree also
Durant is a class act, and others on the team make them easy to like and watch. I understand why the media has fallen in love with the team, but the undeserved HYPE is what really bothers me. People are saying that they’re one of the best teams to challenge the lakers in the west?
Can OKC just try and win their division before we give them the conference? They were the 8th seed last year for cryin’ out loud.
It’ll be nice to beat them this year and continue to develop that rivalry. Good team, hate the hype/organization
As an ex-Sonic fan, the OKC Thunder are my least favorite team. I, however, don't blame the people of ...
that region — for they’re just fans — nor do I hold much contempt for Clay Bennett. Heck, if I had Bennett’s net worth and hypothetically bought a NHL team with it (e.g., the Calgary Flames or the Edmonton Oilers), I’d relocate it somewhere in the Pacific Northwest like Seattle, WA or Portland, OR. If that happened, a large section of Alberta, Canada would want my head on a silver platter.
That, folks, is why my ire regarding the extinct Seattle SuperSonics rests on squarely on Howard Schultz’s shoulders. Nobody forced Schultz to sell the ballclub to out-of-town carpetbaggers led by Bennett, even if the franchise was a financial burden. Schultz, however, should’ve known what he was getting into during the early-2000s, for owning a pro sports team isn’t more about civic pride than a money-making venture.
Schultz is a puny twerp, though, as he got out of dodge as soon as possible rather than making a earnest effort to work with all of Gov. Christine Gregoire, the Washington State Legislature, then Seattle Mayor Greg Nickles, and the Seattle City Council through the end of the lease — which was 2010 at the time — so as to collectively fund a much-needed upgrade for the Key Arena. To me, Schultz is a schmuck and a sellout.
Heck, you don’t see U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI) selling the Milwaukee Bucks in spite of the Bradley Center being woefully outdated as a NBA arena; on the contrary, he makes the best of a bad situation, because he takes pride in the region — even though he’s had the opportunity to pawn the franchise off in the past — like a man with true character. Unlike the magnanimous Kohl, Schultz is nothing but a self-serving rat.
You got most of them
but i have to include the L*ker Fanboys, who go onto national websites and regardless what the article is about, their comments are always something along the lines of “hate-hate-hate on everybody else, kobe is the best, L*kers win it all…”
ESPN
For selling out sports coverage for ego stroking.

Corey Maggette
I dislike him because he seems to get the best of Portland everytime we play his squad.
Also, he is one of the strongest players in the league, yet his flopping would make Vlade Divac proud.
Confucius Says: "Beer before liquor never been sicker, liquor before beer you're in the clear."
I hate that we didn't pick him up
And I hate Utah for beating us down. We gotta stop that.
In KP I trusted!
yep
I don’t like Maggette for the exact same reason. He’s a whiner. He’s the exact opposite of Jeff Penderfoul. Someone hits Jeff and he doesn’t really notice. The thing that makes me love Pendergraph is the same thing that makes me really not like Maggette.
Ryan Gomes: forever a Blazer in our hearts.
I don't get the OKC hate.
Durant is a class act and they have an exciting young team. It kind of annoys me how they are anointed the next big thing but as far as OKC and the team they have assembled there is nothing but respect.
Also it is tough to hate Kobe and the Lakers. Kobe is always working hard and always watching tape. Some timeouts he takes the clip board and draws up the plays. Not because he thinks he is better than everyone (although maybe he does) but because he wants that badly to win. You at least got to respect that aspect of the guy.
I agree the superfirends is kind of BS, to me it takes away from the spirit of competition. And you can’t deny that James quit on the team in the playoffs. Oh well.
I am not big on Boston myself but Ray Allen is pretty much unhateable.
I hate OKC too
Mostly because I appreciated the Sonics-Blazers I-5 rivalry, I feel that Seattle had their team ripped out from under them, I hate that Oden is constantly compared to Durant despite the fact that it was the obvious choice at the time and I hate that they are overhyped. That is all

yeah it is tough to blame the team though...
when you look at the dump that is Key Arena.
?? it wasn't bad
the lease was though.
I love B Edge almost as much as I love B Roy and close to my love for B atum
but you have to understand it's not really the team or the players (at least in my case)
It’s more so the organization and ownership for what they did to Seattle, Clay Bennett in particular.
And there’s other little things that make them very easy to hate also. Durant over Oden debate (yawn), the stupid blue shirts, and everyone over hyping them for unknown reasons (seriously somebody please tell me why)?
Bat88m
See, personally, I don't hate the team or players
But the organization and owners and the hype train, I really dislike about OKC.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.

now watch us get decried as not true Blazer fans. Oh well. I love Blazersedge :-)
Ryan Gomes: forever a Blazer in our hearts.
I agree on a lot of points.
I have come to respect Kobe, and I actually like Pau Gasol. I still hate the L@kers organization though.
I also hate Boston, even though Ray Allen is still cool. I just don’t want to see them win ever. Same for Miami. I will root for anyone against those two teams. If it was between the two I’d root for Miami to lose.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.

Utah Jazz Fans
I actually like the team, but after moving to Jazz territory I hate how every single one of them think the the Jazz are the favorite to win the title every year, then they try to talk trash about my team, when historically speaking Portland have been a much better franchise.
Actually, I have the opposite view.
The SLC Dunk guys are pretty nice when they visit. But I still don’t like their team.
"[S]ince men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to pursue many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers, and that was that first yoke they placed upon themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of evils the prepared for their descendants. For, besides continuing thus to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit, and as they had at the same time degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet; and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to have them." -Jean-Jacques Rousseau
This is a great idea for a post.
There are a lot of little things that drive me nuts about the association, so I apologize early if I end up having to add onto this as time goes on.
1. The Celtics. I didn’t even mind them in 2008, but man, that game where Paul Pierce was trash talking Roy and KG pushed JB into the backpost then barked at him like a dog…that STILL gets my blood boiling. Plus, I spent a lot of years in Boston and their fans (even though I’m friends with some of them) drive me crazy.
2. How the rules suddenly change in the playoffs. Why can’t we just have a uniform standard of play and then enforce it?
3. The hand-checking rule. Not that I don’t like good guard play, but come on.
4. Michael Jordan. I know, get over it already. I can’t, and besides, he’s never given anyone reason to like him outside of basketball either.
5. The "Superstar " calls. If they’re indeed superstars, why can’t they rise above their environment instead of having to plea to officials for help?
6. That LeBron James expects us to give him as much or more credit outside of basketball than he gets in it. Dude, why can’t you do what most businesses do and establish yourself (win a ring), and THEN grow your brand? Also partial hate on ESPN for enabling that guy.
Sorry about the length…I had to get it out. Funny, I didn’t even get to Chris “The Birdman” Anderson…

I agree about the rules
Having seemingly different rules in the postseason is a bit of a mystery to me, and I’m not sure (admitting my ignorance here) that I understand all the differences from regular to post-season, but I perceive that there are differences in how they’re officiated.
But the All-Star calls are killing me. Even when Brandon gets the luxury of those calls, I think they’re unfair. I can understand that the reason the officials are more lenient is that the superstars sell the league and you want them to shine. But the phantom fouls are sometimes ridiculous, especially when they’re juxtaposed with a lesser player not getting the same call immediately following. That is just bad form.
Ryan Gomes: forever a Blazer in our hearts.
Good calls on 2, 3, 5, 6 especially. Rec for getting beyond teams and players.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
I hate the leagues biggest showboater...
David Stern. I would happily repeal my hate for him if he relocated either the Celtics or Lakers to Seattle.
I am down on KG, Kobe (and L@kers), and Utah, but OKC is Okay by me(as we still beat them), but Bennett is hate-worthy.
Shaq is always worth rootin’ against. Same goes for LeBron. Since Lebron joined Miami I can include Wade and Bosh.
by NWfan on Aug 4, 2010 11:29 AM PDT reply actions 1 recs
The greatest thing to ever happen
was LeBron joining his buddies in Miami. Now I am positive he will NEVER be considered the greatest player of all time. I think that is a gift to me as a NBA fan. I just hope that they don’t win a single title.
“Super-friends” also makes the NBA feel a little more like WWE. More spectacle than sport. That’s too bad, as I love the sport.

Hate? My biggest hate (besides L@kers) is for Denver
Melo irks me when I watch him play. The whole tattooed team is a giant turn off. They always seem to beat the Blazers when we play in Denver. They are (were) our biggest division rival past couple years. Can’t believe other fans haven’t been mentioning them
OKC I cannot come to hate. They are a well run organization, similar qualities to why I like the Blazers (and Spurs, Rockets ect), and most importantly Durant is a quality player, in the highest sense of the word. Their other players are also very interesting and players who I still like at this point. It seems like a good basketball culture there.
Doesn’t mean I don’t want a good rivalry between us though. I feel like for the next 5 years we will be fighting to top the NW, and I would much rather have them as a rival than Denver or Utah. If the Thunder ever get a decent post player I think there could be some very epic games in the future between the two clubs.
You beat me to the punch...
I HATE the Denver Nuggets… I hate how Carmelo has an O at the back of his name, had an attitude as bad as anyone in the league and will always irk me the wrong way… I HATE everyone on that team actually… All but nene and billups, two guys I wouldn’t mind in the red an black. And don’t get me started on chris anderson…
I also hate cry baby Dirk… Complains just about every time down the floor…
I also hate OKC and their fans… 3 years deep in the NBA and they are trying to claim “best and loudest fans out there”?!?!? Seriously?!?! They aren’t even the best and loudest fans in their division!!!!
Ok now that I’m boiling mad, time to go blow off some steam via call of duty…

Especially now that they’re on the downhill, with Billups getting old…they’re just going to stay at the one-and-out, 48 wins area.

My hatred is pointed more towards individuals than teams...
Namely the ones that are whiners, showboaters, arrogant, cocky, talk a lot of smack or play dirty. I realize that it’s part of the game, but it doesn’t mean I have to like them.
My list includes:
Birdman, KG, Kobe, Boozer, Bayless (more annoying than hate), Artest, Scola and Shaq. Did I miss anyone? Oh yeah, freaking Lebron.

But for whatever reason they just don’t rub me the wrong way. If Tajuan Porter was in the NBA, I’d probably dislike him. Or if Maarty Leunen played more. I’ve got respect for Aaron Brooks and what he has accomplished though…and Malik just doesn’t bother me as a Spur even though he did as a Duck.

Very true
I guess just being an undersized, fairly-electric, 3-pt sniping, effective NBA starting PG who is repping for the state of Oregon is what I mean. When he came out I don’t think anyone would have bet money that he would average almost 20 ppg as a starting NBA PG
fearless controlled aggression
You hate...benchwarmers?
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
Yeah, I know there's a pattern of sorts
But I do have Richard Jefferson, Turkoglu, Peja, Scola, and others who have seen or still do see starting time (and no I don’t just hate foreigners either). I guess it’s easier for me to dislike people when they play more limited minutes because it’s easier to define their games (Reggie Evans), versus a guy like Dirk who is just too good to not have my respect (or even ZBO, who makes me laugh.)
These guys are on the list for a variety of reasons (and conversely, the people who didn’t make the list have earned my non-dislike for a variety of reasons, except Luke Walton, he should be on list as well)…Kris Humphries for example spurned Duke for Minnesota, left college early, played for the Jazz, and isn’t that good. Compare that to Shaun Livingston, who also spurned Duke to go pro, but did not go to another college (so he’s a still a Dukie at heart), played for the Clippers, and had terrible things happen to him to earn my sympathy (plus he’s a 6’7’’ PG, which is awesome).
Some of them I dislike due to style of play, some of them because of attitude, some of them I dislike for little or no apparent reason (but you are welcome to ask about any particular player and I will be happy to elaborate on why they are or aren’t on the list).
fearless controlled aggression
Kevin Ollie has a silly name and funny lip 'stache
with Ross it’s more indifference…but as the title of the list indicates, sometimes the dislike is for little or no apparent reason. Upon further review I don’t have much of a reason to dislike Ross, I think something from his time with the Clips irked me but I don’t know what it was.
This is definitely not a commentary on these guys as people in any way, otherwise the list would be radically different.

Easy. Fakers.
Having grown up in Beantown, I’ve learned how we abused the Fakers throughout the Russell v Wilt years; watched the thrilling Finals in the 80’s; and now, moved to Portland, the only city in America that hates the Fakers about the same as Boston fans.
So the Fakers will always be my most hated team. Kobe is currently my most hated player, which is also an easy call (what’s not to hate)?
Earlier, I used to really hate Ball Laimbeer, Zeke Thomas and the Detroit Pissons…
But I must say, most of my fan hatred is reserved for other sports, notably baseball and the Yankmes.
What I’m really starting to dislike are Portland homers who have drunk all of the Naterade and can’t envision a different style of play from the infamous ‘doing the Portland’… And now, with Nate hand-picking a bunch of Seattle retread yes men, it sure seems like that we’re going to suffering through this boring brand of basketball another year or two at least… So yes, Nate is now my most hated non-playing member of the NBA…
I grew up hating the Celtics because they prevented my childhood hero (who is my screen name) from winning a championship. I still hate them.
Yes, I grew up a Lxkers fan. I moved to Corvallis in 1976 but did not watch the championship season. I moved to Portland in 1978 and by then I was watching the Blazers pretty regularly. I rooted for them too. But it was usually a good thing to have some Lxker fanhood to fall back on as Ramsey’s undermanned Blazers usually croaked in the first round.
But the moment Magic heaved the ball downcourt in 1991, that was my last gasp as a Lxkers fan. I couldn’t stand them after that.
And I’ve hated the Clippers since they fired me! – Elgin
GOP in HD
I loathe Bonzi, Zach, Darius and DA.
I dislike Damon,Ruben and Trader Bob.
Oddly enough, despite being bores, Sheed and JR still hold a soft spot in my heart.
I hate the letter, the term “Pritchslap,” prima donna trade demands and dudes named Warren.
That’s enough of this exercise. Thanks though.
OKC gets on my nerves too, but not to their fault, it's more of the media's love fest with Durant and Co. that bothers me.
Durant seems like a good guy, but I can’t stand how much ref love he already gets at such an early age. He already gets more calls than anybody in the league. He had something like over a hundred more free throws made than anyone else in the league and his attempts were more than anyone other than Howard, who is fouled on purpose. He’s been anointed already by the league and the refs have obviously received Stern’s memo. And as far as the team itself, the media seems to love to talk about them as the next best Western Conference team, as if the Blazers are forgotten as the team on the rise. If they were from a decent market or city, I’d understand, but OKC deserves no special treatment.

I really like Steve Nash and have been a semi-suns fan for a while. Robin Lopez, Dragic, Frye, it’s a great group. I even like the coach. But my time browsing BSOTS made me really dislike their fans, and that Seth guy who runs it seemed like a prick.
Not drunk enough to express hatred...
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
I forgot about Vujacic
and how could I have ever forgotten about my hatred for Louis Scola!?! they MUST be added to the list for rockin the euro-grease, semi-long hair. Oh yeah, and if you use a black shoelace to tie it out of your face, you should be kicked out of the NBA immediately! While I’m at it, I want to add Luis Amundson for that pony-stub he’s sportin – my wife likes to call him “Big Girl” because of it – awesomeness!!!
Oden shall return!
I gained respect for Vjacic...
he cut his hair and he was in the same situation as Rudy and instead of whining to the press he worked that much harder to get back into Phil Jackson’s graces.
HOMER-ism
As a result of buying the NBA package on DirecTV I have come to hate homer-ism. When you watch the Blazers play and the game is being announced by the other team’s announcers (or when Mike and Mike do it) and they are are just outrageously homer-izing. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have nice things to say about their team, but don’t constantly put down the other team or demand homer calls from the Refs. Eddie Johnson of the Suns is among the worst perpetrators. Matt Bullard of the Rockets is too.(Clyde seems to do a nice job).
They should announce the game, give some good insight on the game and the team they supposedly know, and be entertaining.
Also, I love hating Varejao. Respect him, but HATE him.

GILBERT ARENAS!!
OMG I can’t believe no one mentioned him!!! I have had an unnaturally strong distaste and abhoration (is that even a word?? it is NOW) for him for ohhh so long. Long before the gun incidents and probably started sometime about 5 or 6 years ago when I saw a video of him boasting about how he was the greatest player to ever grace the heavens. I just CAN NOT STAND HIM! Years of hatred…I wish he was wiped off the face of the earth. Why can’t that douche just be gone!!! Oh and I’m so sure he will find a way to ruin John Wall before he is said and done. PFFFFfffff…phllleebbbb….. oh i HATE him
I still hate him
doesn’t anyone else feel the same way??
I mostly just feel bad for the Wizards for giving him such an atrocious contract
