another rudy fernandez trade drawer

Yeah, yeah. Another Fernandez trade drawer. But what else is there to talk about?

There has been heaps of trade speculation over the last few weeks about what teams may have offered the Blazers for Rudy. Bulls and Celtics - 1st round pick. The Knicks - Wilson Chandler.

I hope the Blazers trade Rudy soon and, if it were me, I'd trade him, Miller, our 2011 1st round pick and the rights to Victor Claver to Washington for Hinrich and their 2nd rounder.

Some people may say a 1st rounder is too much to give up. I don't. It'll be in the late 20's (hopefully 30) so who cares. If Washington dosen't want Rudy then they can trade him to the bulls or celtics for their 1st round pick offer or to the knicks for chandler.

Some people may also say Miller, Arenas and Wall might not work. Who is to say Arenas will be playing for Washington next season? Cleveland have the cap space and trade exemption to acquire him for little if nothing.

If not, Miller is an expring contract and the Wizards (who are rebuilding) get possibly two 1st round picks out of the deal (or Rudy and one 1st rounder) along with the rights to Claver, and free up heaps of cap space for next season.

I also think Hinrich would be an awesome fit for the Blazers and an even better backcourt partner for Roy. He can play both backcourt positions. He doesn't doesn't dominate the ball and, best of all, is one of the best defensive point guards in the NBA. His stats were just as good if not better than Miller's before Rose arrived...plus he is 5 years younger than Miller. Opposition point guards regularly kill the Blazers (check the box scores if you don't believe me) Monta Ellis has career nights against us. Nash did what he wanted in the playoffs. Wouldn't it be nice to have a defensive minded point gaurd who can shut down players like that?

I think so. We have enough young players. We don't need any more draft picks. And if for some stupid reason the Blazers swap Rudy for a first rounder, do we get the $3 mil we paid for that pick too?

Go Blazers!!!

We would be lucky to get anything out of him at this point.

No Hinrich

The Blazers have never been high on Hinrich. They’ve had any number of opportunities to get him, but the price was too high or they didn’t want him badly enough to pay that price. Take your pick.

Well, we don't know the details of those proposals

Quick said that Portland was talking to Chicago about Kirk back in June, so the interest was still there. Not sure how highly Cho ranks Hinrich

We do know that the Bulls were asking for Bayless and KP said “no” (this was in a 3-way trade rumor where Boozer would’ve wound up in Chi-town, last summer)

All the reasons why Kirk and Roy would be a good backcourt haven’t gone away. But I think Miller is going to be Portland’s starting PG on opening night, and Rudy won’t be on the Blazer’s bench

Suns' Dragic may go back to Europe

…how about a straight up euro for euro? rudy with nash could be good. and since we can’t stop dragic, having him would b e good.

by shallwemaui on Aug 22, 2010 9:21 AM PDT reply actions

Huh?
since we can’t stop dragic

This is an interesting take, I have heard similar sentiment several times from several different posters who thought that Miller and Bayless got killed by Nash and Dragic. That isn’t what I observed.

Both Nash and Dragic were held below their season averages in points, assists, and field goal %. Both were above their season average in TOs. They are both very good, but I didn’t see them killing Miller and Bayless who were our second and third leading scorers respectively.

What is the basis for your comment?

Dragic did play well in the playoffs but nothing special against us

So perceptions were inflated due to some of his later play.

Richardson killed the Blazers

because he didn’t have to contend with a healthy Roy on the other end

and Barbosa abused Rudy

Once Phoenix shut down Andre Miller after game 1, Portland’s goose was cooked

Goren for Rudy was my suggestion

the Suns would’ve jumped on it, if it had been offered 12 months ago (salaries match)

And Portland fans would’ve been up in arms if it had happened last summer!

I was looking through the other team's blogs and there's still plenty of interest from the fans

A funny quote form blogabull:

My sources are telling me that the Blazers are in talks with New Orleans regarding a Rudy for CP3 deal but the Blazers are insisting on some additional compensation.
Rose Colored Goggles

I’d believe this. Seriously, **** the Blazers.
Illini15

Both comments were green.

Joking aside though, it seems like were all pretty much ready to swap him for a first and be done with it, how often does management overvalue promising young players than fans? Kind of odd really.

Portland could coast along with their superior talent and stay right with us. Now that Portland woke up, the hammer cometh down.

I suspect that the new GM and his team aren't ready to make any trade.

They want to wait for the World Championships to finish, since that might help Rudy’s value and also will give them more time to evaluate our team from the inside.

Congratulations on a successful trade.
Due to Portland being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Portland had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Where's Landry going to play?

Do you have a follow-up trade (involving LMA) to report?

If Da Blazers turned down a trade for Hinrich I'd love to know who for.

Hinrich is one of the best defensive PGs in the league. In fact I think his defense in under rated, unlike Lebron whose D is over rated. Durrant lit him up last season and so did Melo. Melo scored 40 on him plus the game winner. How the hell is that all defensive 1st team?

as the rumor goes

there was a 3-way proposal last summer involving Chicago and Utah where Boozer would go to the Bulls and Hinrich would come to PDX (this was before Miller was signed, IIRC)

Chicago wanted Bayless, KP said no Jerryd
