A rare good read over at hoopsworld got me thinking. Link: http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=17129 Honestly, who does Rudy think he is? I have seen a ton of Rudy posts' lately so forgive me if i am contributing to the madness but that Hoopsworld article makes a ton of good points i would bet we are all thinking. Disclaimer: I was/am as big a fan of Rudy as anyone but he really needs a reality check.
Rudy has allways said he came to the NBA to play against the best and prove he too belongs in the "elite" category of basketball players. Well my friends, if you can't prove to your own team you are worthy of significant playing time and a significant role but you want a trade because you are convinced that another team will just let you be the man you are delusional. I love Rudy but most things worth anything in life are earned not given, you would think a pro athlete above many others would understand this. Rudy's numbers in the spanish ACB league were awsome, his rookie stats were very good, but there is one thing above all else that is valued in the NBA.......Consistancy!!
Rudy is more up and down than the best roller coaster on the planet, you can NOT expect anything but role player status if you can't bring it every night and most importantly you must bring it when it counts, I.E. playoff time? Rudy WAS given every opportunity to play and play well. I have allways been turned off by fluffy euro players but Rudy may be the final nail in the coffin for me personally, i truely believed he was different and would break the "fluffy" stereotype.
Boy was i wrong, he is completely one dimensional. Whats worse his one dimension happens to be long range shooting which is inherantly the one dimension of a players game that has THE lowest percentage of success in the game of basketball. Duh Rudy, the further out from the basket you are the less chance you have of the ball going in the hole. I know he a skinny little dude but so are alot of players who still fearlessly drive to the bucket. Bayless, D. Harris, CP3, D-williams, etc. Mostly PGs i mentioned sure, but Rudy isnt really much bigger than the guys mentioned either. He plays no defense, i do remeber in his rookie year he would come up with a nice pick or two but he doesnt even do that anymore. I have no idea where the handles he showed in his rookie year went or the passing, or even the occasional drive. Atleast he drove the ball once in a great moon.
Now some will say it was Nate, or the system, or anything not Rudy. I must call Bull.....poop on this, GREAT players.....well great players can thrive in most any system so long as it is a functional system. Prime example: Roy, the man would thrive in an up tempo style or a slow paced style as he does currently. Yes ofcourse certain styles fit him better but the man would thrive either way. This is ELITE, this is what Rudy should yearn for and strive for. Instead he whines and complains and goes public with his frustration. OHH guess what, going public.....ya that only made things worse for him.
Had he gone to Cho and said "look man, i want out. Please trade me" His value would still be relatively high, Portland could get a fair deal and outta town he would have been. I commend Cho for not just saying that he wanted the headache gone, god knows i probly would have. Now he threatens to sit out the final two years of his contract. Do they not have commitment or pride or respect in Spain? I know they do, YOU SIGNED A CONTRACT, FULFILL IT!!! It would be like the president of the united states......who knows they are signing on for four years minimum saying "Nope, this is not what i thought being president would be like. I am sitting out the final two years of my term."
I have NEVER agreed with either the player or the team they play for not honoring a CONTRACT. Otherwise lets just call it a joke written in ink. Obviously i am disapointed and upset with the Rudy issue. Leave your thoughts below, Tell me i should not be so upset.......or maybe you are just as upset. Tell me your opinion please.
