Blazersedge Scrubdown: Matchup #10
If you don't know what the Scrubdown is about by now, where have you been? We're voting on a bracket of non-star Blazers to determine who the favorite all-time is. Each day brings a head-to-head matchup. You vote for the guy you want to advance using whatever criteria you choose (though we ask that you consider a guy's Blazer career more than what he did elsewhere). And it's that simple.
Today you get to decide between Mark Bryant and Channing Frye. Who advances into the second round? Vote below.

I'd go Frye
But he did give Bayless a nasty little shoulder in the playoffs.

Mark Bryant!!!!
He was the Brian Grant of his day. He was also my dad’s favorite player at the time so there is some sentimental value there.

I'll vote for Bryant because he won't get very many votes, and Channing forgot to tell us he could shoot the 3.

Mark Bryant all day!!! Why is anyone voting for Frye?
Mark Bryant is the definition of a Blazer scrub. He was a true scrub, but was able to have a long stretch with us through the rip city days because of effort and toughness.
Wow. This is a tough one
Frye is very likable, but Mark was an important cog during title runs.
Since less people remember Mark, I’m going to vote for him.
One vote for Mark Bryant!
Channing Frye!
Cause he’s a true Portlander and a cool dude.
(Sorry, don’t know Mark Bryant. Too young I guess.)
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
Mark Bryant
Bryant was bad ass. Frye was soft. Bryant filled a role. Frye filled a chair on the bench. Of course Frye was solid before he came here and is again now that he’s gone. Ummm Nate?

Tough Guy Frye has my vote!
I don’t see Bryant hosting a charity kick ball tournament in his adopted home city!

Mark Bryant
He was a scrub who knew his limitations. Frye was a disappointing scrub.

Bryant with a slight edge over Frye
Bryant was a more relevant on the court player for the Blazers whereas Frye is a more relevant off the court personality. Both have it’s advantages but in this case I give the slight (and I mean slight) edge to the player.

Frye
cause I admit I don’t know Bryant. And could he be related to Kobe? I vote Channing because I really thought he was a Portland guy who could come back here someday to be an announcer or something. Plus to be nice to his girl, isn’t she a Portland girl?
Channing

Frye was a better interview.
Gotta have some reason to vote on these things!
Bryant
Why is this close? Bryant had a purpose on this team.
I’d rather hang out with Frye, sure.

Channing Frye
This is the first really hard one for me. Bryant was a part of those great years in the early 90s and I love all those guys and would normally vote for any of them without a second thought, but having just met Channing & family I have to vote for him.

No Contest - Bryant
Mark was a great role player. He may not have been a great scorer and had foul trouble, but he was a brutal hitman. He’d leave his opponent bruised and sore. Much stronger than Frye. Channing is just a nice kid with a nice smile.
Frye
I would choose Bryant over Frye in some situations but overall I think Frye would add more to the team. Tough call.
PTB Liberation Day - 2/10/04
Channing by default
Being a newb PTB fan (on my fourth year now) I know nothing about Bryant. Any chance there are youtube videos of him doing something scrubby like taking a charge or hustling a rebound or picking up a lot of fouls? :-P
Like the Whos down in Whoville they did it without boxes or ribbons or bows, they did without centers or posting down low. They won without All-Stars and Spaniards and Frenchmen. They won with old geezers and sub-par defense-men. They won playing rookies from deep off the benches. They won with their grit and their guts in the trenches. And some who observed them have been known to say that their hearts grew three sizes (at least!) on the way. One hopes with their poise and their passion now proven that once they are healthy their game will be groovin'. -- Dave
Mark Bryant
Drafted by Portland in the first round, it was hoped he would be the answer at power forward. He wasn’t. But that was fine – he stayed here for many years (how many, anyone?) and through the title run. He only left because of the damn expansion draft, if I remember right. And he fouled like Oden.
Frye was here two years, was soft, then left and pretended to be tough against us in the playoffs. I like Frye, but his body of work while a Blazer doesn’t compare to Bryant’s.

Bryant
Based on their play while in Portland, it has to be the tough guy.
Bryant
Cuz I like a tough guy, and he looked like he wanted to eat the opponents’ families, dog, and car tires.

Mark Bryant
had a good long run in the NBA. Frye will be better if he lasts as long as Bryant. Channing gets my vote.
Mark Bryant all the way.
Mark Bryant had an immediate impact on the statistics of the team, and on the number of wins. He was a banger who could run the court well enough to keep up with the Bingo, Bango, Bongo of Drexler, Porter, and Kersey, and he wasn’t a defensive liability like Frye was.
Frye was a nice guy who never had a place on the floor, really. He never made an impact on the outcome of games really. Now, if the rules were different and we could get the player that Frye has become, then maybe I’d want Frye.
