Frye-lock and I'm on top rock you like a cop
Yeah heard this on the game a little while ago. This pretty much ticks me off.
Can’t wait to see Victor Clave…oh wait…thanks Rudy.

If it makes you feel any better
I doubt Claver has the game to be a good NBA player anyway. So far, that just looks like a waste of a 1st round pick.
Did that make you feel better?
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
quick also reported that we would trade rudy 3 weeks ago

yeah but this is resonating across multiple media channels
his agent has said he is prepared to sit out for 2 YEARS if the Blazers don’t let him out of his contract
Apparently Portland was trying to trade him, but did not receive offers they felt were commensurate with his value

I agree.
I think this was the original drama that would have occured. Still not very dramatic, but I think Quick was hinting that this was going to happen.
By the way....
Rudy and his agent just torpedoed Rudy’s trade value. Who will want to give the Blazers anything now that Rudy is likely going to go back to Spain and disinterested in playing in the NBA?
I don't know.
Stephen Marbury went to the Celtics after refusing to show up for the Knicks and wasting a whole year. I think Rudy could still end up somewhere else.

This is completely different
Rudy wants back to Europe, Marbury was gonna stay in the NBA and everybody knew that.
so much for waiting for his trade value to go up
But why would this come out now? Isn’t Rudy out playing for Spain? I think his agent is going off on his own. I think since Rudy would make more in Spain he would make a bigger % so he’s basically forcing Rudy out of the NBA. Sure Rudy isn’t happy with his role, and likes the idea of coming back to Spain, but I don’t think he wants out of the NBA. The guy is made for the big leagues, I don’t think he wants to go back to lesser competition. I could be wrong but it looks like to me that his agent’s just stirring up a hornets nest.
Portland could coast along with their superior talent and stay right with us. Now that Portland woke up, the hammer cometh down.

i disagree
he would get to go home to his native country where he is a sports hero, not just a 3rd tier NBA star
He would get paid more, would have a featured role on a team, and would probably do better in the more open-court, finesse style of European basketball
I think he does want out of the NBA – because I think he realizes that his skill set will never put him in position to be an NBA star with a major role. 6th man – sure. But a guard under 6’6" who doesn’t attack the rim and isn’t a great defender is never going to be a fixture on an NBA team. I think he has realized that, and would be more than happy to head home

I wonder if the Blazers could now say that Rudy can not play for Spain? I mean do not the teams
have some veto power over summertime activities?
I don't think so
They have veto power, if the player cares about the team he plays for. We’re not in that situation.
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
I think they have the right but not the ability to stop their players from playing in international competition.
Here’s the clause from the Uniform Player Contract that all players must sign:
Therefore, it is agreed that in the event it is alleged by the Team that the Player is playing, attempting or
threatening to play, or negotiating for the purpose of playing, during the term of this Contract,
for any other person, firm, entity, or organization, the Team and its assignees (in addition to any
other remedies that may be available to them judicially or by way of arbitration) shall have the
right to obtain from any court or arbitrator having jurisdiction such equitable relief as may be
appropriate, including a decree enjoining the Player from any further such breach of this
Contract, and enjoining the Player from playing basketball for any other person, firm, entity, or
organization during the term of this Contract. The Player agrees that this right may be enforced
by the Team or the NBA.
I think the problem would be finding a court or arbitrator having jurisdiction to grant and enforce relief.

it's going to be interesting to see how the Blazers handle it
His agent claims that if we release him it will be a sign of good will and will encourage other international players to come to the NBA, knowing that they can’t be held against their will
I call BS. To me, it sets a horrible precedent – a player agrees to a contract, and as soon as they are not happy with their playing time, stats, role, etc., they can pout and demand out
I say make him sit an rot for 2 years and fine him for breach of contract, unless we can get something back for him

not to mention
it’s not hard to find wings like him, he is VERY replaceable. In fact, Wes Matthews has already made him irrelevant

Ummm...
We all knew this was coming, right? There was no way Rudy was coming back to Portland. He kind of picked the wrong owner to pull this stunt with. PA can pay him to sit in Spain for the next two years and barely notice the difference on the bottom line.
I was thinking PA might just pay him so he couldn't play in Europe.
Or at least not for FIBA. I have a feeling PA might not take kindly to threats, especially considering the effort he put in personally to convince Rudy to come play in Portland.
He doesn't have to pay him, he just has to suspend him. Then he can't play in Europe.
Paul Allen still has to pay the salary but it goes to NBA/Players Association charities, which would be a small percentage of what Allen contributes each year to charity anyway.

Good to know.
Cho said Rudy would be fined and suspended if he did not report to camp. I guess Rudy will have to decide if he really wants to go that route.
Is there anyway
to stop him from playing in the Worlds? I mentioned it before and was told that would hurt his trade value. He has none now anyway.
To summarize: Wade too quick, Kobe too skilled, LeBron too physical - Batum
I think I answered this above.
The Blazers have the right, but probably not the ability to stop international players from playing. See above.

He has the contract he wants on the table from Olympiacos and he and his agent will now force the Blazers to release him. The contract is 3 years at €7.2 million euros net income (after taxes) with his agent’s fees paid for by the club. It is = to a 3 year $17.6 million gross NBA contract with the current exchange rates.
This is according to various rumors going through the agent’s circles in Europe.
He has no way to force the Blazers to release him.

seriously i hope we pay off 90% of his contract this year and trade him to new orleans for a case of toilet paper.
on condition that they keep him for a year. they could afford him on the books. if he played that would be great for them and great for their fans. its a good city that could use the help with good management. if he refused it would be no big lose and they could cut him after the season.
Does he want out of the Blazers or the NBA altogether?
If he wants out of the NBA altogether, then Nate is completely blameless as far as I’m concerned.
When most players ask for a trade, they’re of the mindset that things aren’t working out with their current team and hope to start over on another team. If Rudy wants out of the NBA altogether, then he is obviously not of the mindset of wanting to start over on another team. He wants to go back to familiar territory, Europe, where he was hailed as a superstar.
His agent now says he wants out of the NBA altogether.

you know the guy is not made of the right stuff if he's willing to sit out for 2 years
any competitive athlete would not be OK with sitting out 2 years, no matter what the issue is
most pro athletes have, at max, about a 12 year window with which they can be effective, probably 8 of those which are considered prime years. To be willing to give up 2 years of that just to prove a point or to pout about the situation just shows that Rudy is not what we want here in Portland. And with that said, I say let him sit and rot for 2 years.

Not about us
This needed to be last years deal – at the time the family left. In any case, I would also hope that most get the other side of this, which is that Rudy and his agent have decided what is best for Rudy. And what’s best for Rudy is to go back to Europe and pick up that $5 million to $6 million contract which was on the table before we convinced him to come to the NBA for pocket change, and is again. His agent is fully aware of what he’s doing. The strategy – one can rest assured – was talked over in detail before the public side of it surfaced. They knew, from the moment they put a demand list of teams on the table, that there was little liklihood that there’d be a trade with those same teams. In the first case teams likely to reach for Rudy were left off the list (most of the NBA), and in the second case, the agent is wise in the ways of the NBA, and knew that they could not place demands on the handful of teams left as it pertains to how Rudy would be used – because no GM or coach would tolerate such conditions. In essence, they gave a semblence of being open to a trade, when in fact, they had only one goal – and that was to get Rudy out of the NBA and back to Spain – where he could get a much bigger payday.
So, it may be about the Blazers to us – but it’s not to them. Portland no longer has a place or a need for Rudy, and the rest of the league isn’t going to trade anything of value for a player who wants to go home. And home is not America.
If that were true, what is the purpose of the charade?
Why not just announce day 1 that he wants to go back to Europe, won’t play for any other NBA team even if traded, and is willing to sit out 2 years if necessary? Why screw around for months? He had nothing to gain. Makes no sense to me.
