Too bad.

I liked that show.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

That's a bummer

What the heck am I supposed to listen regarding the Blazers? Conzano? Not the best source, that’s for certain…

This is a sad day for radio listeners.

Yeah, what are we supposed to do with our beef?

That honestly was the dumbest segment in radio history. What’s your beef? This waste of radio waves is my beef! Why not just have a segment that’s called, “What’s your favorite color?” or “Hi, what’s your name?”. It’s only rival for a waste of time was “Sports Graffiti” where people could call in and say whatever they want. “Sports Graffiti” is radio-speak for “We can’t come up with enough content for a radio show”.

I love Wheels and the personalities in the show (especially Jay Allen!), didn’t like some of the segments that seemed to always be on when I was in my truck.

I hate to say this but I prefer Wheels calling games on the radio vs. Wheels the radio personality.

I have the opposite reaction

When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

me too.

It is tough to tell what is actually going on when Wheels is calling the game…. unless you honestly believe that the Blazers get hosed every play.

by Escrote on Aug 17, 2010 1:06 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

you can always tell when they're behind

because Wheels sounds like he needs a hug

after 25+ years of the Schonz, I never warmed up to Brian. Too shrill and sensational. If I’m traveling and the game is on then I’ll tune in, but it’s always a chore to listen to him and Tone, not something I look forward to

OTOH, on the talk shows I think they’re both good guys with plenty of anecdotes

lol

I get so mad listening to him. I hear the game and I think that the Blazers would be winning by 50 if it weren’t for the refs blowing every call. Then I see a replay of the game and think that Wheels needs to tone it back and concentrate on calling the game.

by Escrote on Aug 17, 2010 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Ditto

I really liked his show. Can’t blame him for leaving though, I always thought his schedule was brutal during the season.

On the radio he’s fine, during a game he sounds like he’s about to die.

LOL. I have always said this.

The Blazers hold back on going to the championship for fear of killing Wheels on the air.

I won’t miss it badly but I’ll miss it.

There goes the only reason ever listen to 95.5

outside of Blazers and Duck games.

I hope that station knows what they’re doing, but, based on their other programming decisions, I’m highly skeptical.

Very Sad

I would say as far as replacements go i would be all for John Lund. He did a great job filling in for Canzano and it would be great to have him back in Portland.

by RipCityforLife on Aug 17, 2010 4:55 PM PDT reply actions

I also don't mind

Mike Barrett…but I assume his plate is already pretty full.

by Billy Hoyle on Aug 17, 2010 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Bummer!!!

But I can see how it would be exhausting for wheels to have to do a 3 hour radio show, then games.

3rd down... chainsaw noise please.

by GoBlaze22 on Aug 17, 2010 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

Hacksaw Hamilton a possible replacement? Seriously?

For those who are unaware, when Jim Rome starts to talk in a gravelly voice and says things like “I want to talk to a Garbageman” or “Escondido! El Cajon! Encinitas! I want to talk to you!” or even “Good night now”, he’s doing his imitation of Lee ‘Hacksaw’ Hamilton.

The ‘Saw was OK to listen to about 20 years ago, but I can’t imagine listening to him again on a regular basis…..

Totally understandable.

Throw in preseason and playoffs, and dude calls close to a hundred games a year.
Hosting a radio show on top of that IS excessive, no question.

But, my gosh – there’s only two weeks until it’s over, and they don’t have a replacement lined up?
That’s kinda unprofessional-looking.

Do it! Do it! Do it 'til you're satisfied!

too bad both lund and vance couldn’t cohost. I liked their “big show” from a few years back.

by Name's Ash on Aug 18, 2010 7:49 AM PDT reply actions

I understand

but it still sucks, helped me get through the latter part of my day for the past few years. Will miss wheels and the others, but mostly my Blazers info in the afternoon. I cant stand Canzano nor can I stand Rome so I’m pretty much done listening to 95.5, sad day.

by przybillafan2001 on Aug 18, 2010 10:25 AM PDT reply actions

That show was horrible

I can only listen to Wheels say “uh” so many times and Kenny talk about how often he gets drunk and goes to stripclubs so much. I liked that is was centered around the blazers but it was not very entertaining.

The morning show has gotten a little better with Dwight and Antonio Harvey, but not that much

I can't stand Dwight or Tone

Dwight is a cranky old fart who thinks he knows everything.
Tone lacks any insight into much of anything.

The only thing you can say for these guys is that they are better than Conzano.

The show was hardly tolerable for me.

Kenny V is terrible for radio (this is his 2nd failed show) as a full timer. Jay Allen can’t drive a show. Wheels is alright though didn’t come across as the guy I would want to have a beer with as he claimed in his opener.

Whether you like him or not, Canzano is great radio. He needs a better lead-in.

It is great to hear someone working towards reaching their goals. The “I’m with mike segment” take a whole 4 mins a week.
I for one really like to hear about his progress and wish him the best.

Mike is a very nice guy, and a Bedge lurker as it turns out

We chat on FB regularly so if he becomes offended by leeroy’s comment then we all know who to blame.

I’d say Canzano’s quest to help him drop the weight for free is a very noble cause

Canzano makes me crazy

On one hand, he gets the best guests and he is very clever at finding fresh angles on a story.

OTOH, he drives me nutz!. His moral absolutism reminds me of a bad Dr. Laura imitation. His Duck bashing is annoying as hell. Above all, his unrelenting fanning the flames of any hint of controversy is so transparently self-serving as to drive me to distraction.

Canzano is great at self-promotion, decent as an entertainer, worthless at providing insight into sports, and annoying as a social commentator.
