When are the Blazers gonna make a trade?
So Cho has hired some assistants. Great.
He's fired some shooting coach. Wow.
Now how about making a trade for the Blazers instead.
We need either Jamal Crawford or Hinrich or even Jason Terry. Someone who can come off the bench and have an immediate impact.
I'd like to get Jamal the most. And the Blazers can easily aquire him too. He's an expiring contract. He and Roy are great friends that train in the offseason together. All Roy needs to do is whisper in his ear and tell him to force a trade to Portland. The Blazers would easily match any extention the Hawks will offer.
If it were me I'd offer Miller, Rudy, Elliot Williams, and one of our euro players to the Hawks to get him. The Hawks are not a top four team, maybe not even top five (i personally rate the Bucks better) so what's the point of have such a huge salary if you're just making up the numbers.
If the Hawks fall for it, they can trade Miller to Sac. They have the cap space and have been trying to get a quality point guard since the draft. The Hawks would then keep Rudy and Elliot and the euro player.
The Blazers can have a 3 guard rotation of Bayless, Roy and Jamal.
If that fails the Blazers could get Hinrich. And he would fit Nate's boring system.
Terry. I'm not so sure the Mavs would give him up... but with the injury to boobwah and kidd's age anything is possible.
Go Blazers!!!
And make a move Cho!!!!!

I just read that the Blazers have a possible trade for Daniel Orton in the works:
http://www.wildcatworld.com/?3LxTOMGD
Its all good! (except for the bad part).
Looking at his draftexpress and nbadraft profiles, I like the kid
He’s young, long, and a defensive presence. He’s a project, but has good potential on offense, but with Oden, Pryz and Camby, a project is perfect. He’s also definately a center, not a tweener.
Not sure why magic would do this trade, even with Howard and Gortat above him. I dont see VC or Redick playing SF effectively.
Portland could coast along with their superior talent and stay right with us. Now that Portland woke up, the hammer cometh down.

Yea well I can see Pendy doing the same thing
And his highlights arent that impressive but maybe thats why its him and a first as well. Maybe not a great pick up but a good one. None of its official anyway so we just have to see what happens.

didn't daniel orton get ejected in his first summer league game???
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
they will trade rudy most likely by the end of the FIBA tournament
you know “buy low, sell high”. Rudy always looks better in international basketball games so that means nba team are going to see him and are going to call cho see what they can do to get him.

The question should be...
What trade actual improves the Blazers? Just wait it out and the right thing will pop up
I've got an idea!
Why don’t we get some injury cover up front, with a veteran big man who will rebound and teach our young guys some fire and instill in them a “you shall not pass” mindset about protecting the key? A guy who will teach LMA to help on defense and block shots?
I know! Let’s do Blake and Outlaw for Camby!
We’ve got too many wings who aren’t good role players in limited minutes. Let’s dump one of them and pick up a lock-down defender who can also hit a 3.
I know! Let’s trade Martell and use the money to pick up Matthews, hurting Utah while we’re at it!
OK, I’m ready for the season. Let’s get everyone in condition, work on skills and team chemistry, and go beat some people.
We have players who play defense now, look out!

Which makes you wonder which two pieces Cho (and Allen apparently) thinks we are missing to have a championship roster?
We know Allen wants to get moving faster making changes because he said so when Cho was hired.
Paul Allen:
I think we can get moving even faster on some of the things we are trying to do … I was trying to lead those discussions …. But having a GM on the ground, making sure everything is firing on all cylinders, laying the ground work, coming up with ideas, I’m happy to inject my ideas, but things can move even faster than they have so I’m really excited about that.

Obviously, a top quality PG
We may have it in Bayless, there’s a shot that Armon can be part of the answer there. But right now, we don’t have the ideal PG for this team, in terms of fit and timeline. A very good PG, but that’s the main place where we could use some upgrade.
That, and we could use a little better 3 point shooting than we had last year. Perhaps Nic can be part of the answer to that. Perhaps Rudy still might be, too.
The main thing is for Greg to be healthy and progress. Everything gets a lot better if that happens — by the end of the year, we’ll be very, very strong.

OK, I’m ready for the season.
How do you feel at backup PG if Miller hits the wall and his injury string comes to an inglorious end after the trading deadline. Are Bayless and Johnson good enough to take the team into round 2?
Maybe that 15th roster spot that should eventually be vacated by Rudy could be used on a veteran #3 (break glass only in case of emergency) PG?

We could get Allen Iverson for the vet minimum if the Hawks aren't keen
If Cho doesn’t make a move by training camp Paul Allen should awkwardly fire his assistants, make it obvious he’s grown tired of his shenanigans then fire him 1 hour before opening night but let him manage the team until the game is over.
Can I get an Armon?

yes but it isn't sexy to stand pat
the whole cp3 thing got everyone so convinced we HAD to get another big name player, there now seems to be a prevailing thought that we have somehow gotten worse.
O.R.
this^
the whole CP3 thing has convinced some that Portland is unhappy with Miller and that he needs to be replaced for a lateral (at best younger) option at PG…
…while overlooking the possibility that Paul and Larry had the hots for CP3 and thought that they might be able to steal him away from NO while their front office was in transition.
Nice try, thanks for playing. Here are some lovely parting gifts

We have a 55+ win team.
Let’s see how that goes before trading for an overrated volume shooter on an expiring contract.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
I'd love to see a few moves
It would be great if they could get Trevor Ariza from Houston or make a move to get Darren Collison from New Orleans.
Or Hedo from Orlando. He would be a great 6th man.
Oh wait, he’s in Toronto now

When are The Blazers going to make a Trade?
Answer: When a trade becomes becomes possible that improves The Blazers. Scenario’s and the musings of fans are far removed from the actual reality of the interplay between every GM and every franchise in The N.B.A..
Personally, I like that Cho HASN’T come waltzing in and immediately started to make trades just to flex his muscle or make his immediate mark on the team. Show’s me that Cho is a man that “thinks” about what he is doing, and is not going to make moves for the simple glory of boosting his own ego, or even to entertain the off-season fans.
The Blazers are NOT in a rebuilding mode, at least not yet. Are we where we need to be? Also not yet. But the truth is, not making a trade, is an argueable direction for this team in this short term. We are not in a position where we HAVE to make a trade.
"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"
Barrett said again tonight that the Blazers are active in trade discussions
whether that means anything more than Rudy will be on his way to a new NBA city soon remains to be seen
The other day Bill Branch said that fans would be surprised how many different deals get proposed, agreed upon internally and then shot down by the other team. He said he’s always caught off guard when a deal actually goes through, because it’s so rare

LOL - it's been the most eventful off-season in recent memory, but fans are still bored and want more action?
Yeah, a bunch of front office and coaching changes aren’t as sexy as trades, but jeesh.
not gonna happen
the trade for Crawford you talk about I highly doubt the Hawks would take. Heinrich isnt getting moved again, and I agree with what you said about Terry
On the plus side ...
At least we know Cho isn’t emotionally attached to any of these guys, so if he’s not making a move right now, it’s not because of, “we like our team.”
I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but August is typically one of the slowest months in the league in terms of transactions and trades (last weeks, Ariza-Collison-Etc. swap not withstanding).
Patience.
I'd still trade Miller
Miller and Rudy (and someone else) for Hinrich.
Hinrich is one of the best defensive PGs in the league… and I doubt many teams would leave him wide open, like the Suns did with Miller in the playoffs. And I also doubt the Blazers would get killed by opposition PGs, like Nash did to us in the playoffs.
His stats before Rose arrived were just as good as Miller’s if not better. Plus Hinrich is 4 years younger.
The question I ask myself is: who would I prefer on the Blazers?… Miller and Rudy or Hinrich. For me it’s Hinrich. Others may disagree but I think he would be a better back court partner with Roy than Miller because he doesn’t need to dominate the ball and can defend both guard positions.
But let’s see what happens.
Go Blazers!!!

We've been debatng Hinrich-Roy for years
it would be ironic if Cho agrees and acquires Kirk, but overall I get the feeling that Portland has considered Hinrich as an option and chose to go in another direction. (It could be that they just didn’t have the right pieces to acquire him from the Bulls, though) There was a rumor last summer that Chicago desired Bayless as part of a deal (three-way proposal with Utah, Boozer going to Chi-town) but Portland was unwilling to part with Jerryd at the time
FWIW, my deal at the 2009 trading deadline was Hinrich+Deng for RLEC+Outlaw+Frye+Sergio (or something similar to that) Blake’s arm was in a sling at the time

Couldn't agree more ....
hugetrailblazerfan. Well said. Most on this website would say that at best, moving from Miller to Hinrich is a lateral move, but the points you bring up are right on the money. Defense at the point would be improved, and Hinrich is going to at least be a threat from the outside.
I could really see Washington wanting to add Rudy, but unfortunately, I don’t think they would have any interest in Miller, since they have Wall and are stuck with Arenas. The trade would have to be Pryzbilla/Rudy for Hinrich.
The problem then would be that you would need to move Miller, and at that point, what do you want to get for him. Seems like Charlotte would be the best destination, but I can’t see anything on their roster that makes the Blazers better. I believe they’ve already traded their first round pick next year to Chicago, so if it was a pick, it would have to be 2013?
I don't know what Washington is going to do with Hinrich except trade him somewhere.
They can’t possibly get rid of Arenas’ contract. It is the worst in the NBA.
I’m not real high on Hinrich, but he can shoot and still play defense.
Maybe we could do a 3-team deal with Charlotte to get Hinrich for Miller straight up? It works salary wise for us. Hinrich’s 2-year contract could be appropriate if you believe Bayless is really coming on. Hinrich’s contract would be up when we would need to extend Bayless.
