The national media has not forgotten us!
Oh wait, this is Canada. Still nice.

the INTERnational media has not forgotten us!
glad to have a few people on our side. and excited to have greg back after watching that video
"I told somebody to stop crying," Pendergraph said after the game. "Actually, I told them all to stop crying."
Gotta love the passing between Miller and Oden in that Griz game
they were just getting warmed up, before Greg went down

The national media might be sleeping on Oden
But I’m sure the rest of the league (scouts and people who have actually played against him) is wide awake and terrified. He haunts their nightmares…
watching those highlights made me more excited to watch GO this year
why wont the season start

It is all about health
The bust label is being applied way too early to Oden. Some of us still believe, big guy!

I hated watching those clips..
because they made me really excited for this season.
I just have a hard time imagining us not going deep into the playoffs with Oden.
Clips like that turn off my brain and the fanatic comes out.
...
Love the chemistry with Andre Miller in a couple of those clips
If GO has lost weight this off-season—as Bobby Medina says—we should get to see a lot more of the speed & quickness he displays here. And Miller knows how to exploit that. Not to mention, less weight would mean less torque on those knees.
How sweet would it be if GO stayed healthy this year and made idiots out of all the “experts” who have written him off.
I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.
You too, Przy: everyone knows you're the heart & soul of the Blazers.
best shape since tOSU
back when Greg was bulked up and slow and in constant foul trouble I remember saying (wistfully) “where’s the guy who was playing against the Gators in March ’07?”
we may finally get to see “that” guy in a Blazer’s uniform here in a few months

Oden at OSU was a monster
I stopped caring about the Blazers and the NBA in general after 2000. I watched every televised game OSU had when Oden was there and became a HUGE fan of his as an individual talent. That same year the Blazers went on a winning streak and regained my attention. When they pulled the first overall pick I hopped back on the bandwagon.
I LOVE when CSN replays the national championship game. Even though Oden was plagued by foul trouble he posted a BEASTLY 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. “That” guy is a top 5 defensive talent, a top 5 rebounder and is no stiff on offense to boot.

Here is what I realistically hope for from Oden next year:
15 ppg, 9 rpg, 2.5 bpg, 30 mpg in 65 games.
If he can do even just that, the Blazers will be a 55+ win team. If he does that and is healthy for the playoffs, the Blazers can at least make the WCF.
Id love that
Id say more likely its 12 and 11 tho

He did average 11 and 8.5 in 24 minutes a game.
I expect about the same, and then better production if he can stay healthy and get in a flow.

he'll get more than 9 boards

9 rpg?
I’m thinking more along the lines of 14 ppg, 12 rpg, 2.5 bpg and about 60-70 games.
That would be great.
Bat88m
Will he get more than 9 rpg?
He won’t play more than 30 mpg…I don’t see him being a double-digit rebounder with that playing time.
remember Greg's one-handed offensive rebounds?
with the defender pinning his other arm down? The ball sticks to Oden’s hands

He was one of the best rebounders in the league on both ends.
If he gets 30 minutes, he’s easily averaging a double double.
I think fouls will still hamper him, but he’ll get to 30 if he can just stay healthy.

it's easy to forget just how good he was in the beggining of the season
I guess we’ll just have to wait til the season to find out.
Bat88m
His goal should be 30 minutes a game, and 74+ games played.
Let him do that, and I’ll take whatever other stats he gets. They will be good enough.

36 minutes
The article said he fouled at a rate of 6.0 per 36 min. last year, yet only received 24 minutes of playing time. Even if he doesn’t improve in that department at all, why shouldn’t he be able to get close to 36 minutes on the floor. Think of what that would do to his production. Just using last year’s numbers, it would extrapolate to roughly:
16.5 ppg, 12.7 rpg, 3.5 bpg,
Those are some nice looking numbers, so Nate, don’t worry about the fouls so much. I’ll take Greg fouling out of every game after 32-36 minutes and posting those kind of stats. We will be blowing more teams out so if he misses the last few minutes, no big deal. That’s what Camby is for.
Camby
The fact the Camby can hit a jumper and do everything Greg and Przy can on defense makes it entirely viable to let Oden foul out. In years past not having Oden for the last few minutes of a game was a death sentence because no one could secure those last minute rebounds. Andre Miller and Camby both hit the glass hard in the closing minutes so they negate that glaring weakness of years ago where the Rudy’s, Roy’s, Blake’s and Outlaw’s of the world were immune to mixing it up in the paint. Even if a game goes into OT we still have three viable centers if you include LMA.
Why not let the big guy foul out early?
by Oden Mad, Oden Smash! on Aug 11, 2010 12:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Guys who foul at that rate rarely even get 30 minutes per game.
It’s not Nate completely. Sure, Oden could have played a few more minutes per game even with the fouls, but the fouls were a real factor in limiting minutes. For example, he’s expected to get 5 fouls at 30 minutes. If it’s late in the third or early in the fourth quarter, he’s going to either sit on the bench or risk fouling out after 30 minutes with plenty of time left in the game. He won’t ever reach 36 minutes per game unless he reduces his fouling.
I agree that Nate didn’t play him as much as he could. I just don’t expect him to play 36 minutes per game even if Nate gets a brain transplant and tries to milk every minute out of him because of fouls and conditioning.
lighter weight, improved mobility
better perimeter defenders (Batum/Matthews) and hopefully better PnR defensive schemes with the new assistant coaching input
I’m hoping that all adds up to only 5 fouls per 36 for #52 next year.
If that’s the case, look out, NBA

Hopefully Greg can maintain his strength while gaining agility and endurance
Blazers basketball? Just basketball you say? More like a way of life
I love Greg but
I really wish he would stop landing the way he does, with his feet out. That looks to put stress on his knees and as well escalates the chance of him landing on on someone elses feet and the ankles rolling.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
Or the way he jumps
He twists his feet inward before launching. It never looks healthy. But it doesn’t look like he had all his bounce back last year, since I hear microfracture takes a year or two to recover from. When he does the rest of the league should watch out.
The 2012-13 NBA season: a dynasty begins.
Good observations
Watching him jump and land always makes me hold my breath. The way his feet point in or out causes his knees to cave in, meaning the forces from the jump and landing is applied at an angle which the knee is not designed to handle. This is one of the same reasons that girls have higher chance of acl tear – they have ananomy(sp?) and a “girly” tradition to jump with the knees pointed inwards. Good trainers for female athletes teach them to align their knees (and rest of the hip, ankles) properly and how to absorb landing impact properly.
I CANNOT BELIEVE that Greg’s college trainers and NBA trainers have not addressed it (to be fair maybe they have but Greg isn’t taking on?) … what a waste… man I talked myself into a little funk of what could be now…
This sums it all up:
“When the 2011 All-Star Game happens on Feb. 20, I will be equally unsurprised if Oden is watching from a wheelchair or sitting on the Western Conference team bench.”
I would be more suprised by the third option.
He isn’t injured and isn’t an All-Star.

A look back at the excitment on this very board, early last year
when Greg was playing so well.

I wish Greg Oden would stop being injured,
because then he would be amazing.
I don’t think you even need to really put any other guidelines – if GO isn’t injured he’ll be one of the best centers in the game.
Hoping for you guys. :)
