Can we trade paul for this guy?

"And our second unit can probably start in most NBA cities." -Maurice Lucas

I am now a Cleveland supporter because of this quote.

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”

I wish Paul showed this much passion sometimes.

Holy Crap!!

That is so awesome!!! Good for him. The Cavs are the new cult following of the NBA.

Seriously

My new #2 team is the Cavs. For sure—how awesome would it be if somehow ( I have no idea how) they do contend for a title or win one before James??? Probably will not happen, but man I will be rooting for it.

Man, way to take public attention off of Allen

Our ownership team no longer looks like the craziest in the league.

I love this sentence. Can’t Gilbert afford an editor?

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
I see what you did there, Dan—way to pull a fast one on your fans.

exactly what I thought.

This seems like a totally knee-jerk response. And saying that he’s going to guarantee a championship before Miami is just silly.

That was one funny letter

I actually cannot believe an NBA owner wrote that. Anyway, good luck winning a championship with Mo Williams as your best player.

Funny

Interesting spin they are putting on the LBJ situation.

by Pickerind on Jul 8, 2010 9:13 PM PDT reply actions

What a loser

He makes it sound like Cleveland owned Lebron. Lebron was a FREE AGENT and Gilbert was unable to get the personnel that could build a title contender. I don’t blame Lebron for leaving, I fully understand him doing so. His tact in doing so left plenty to be desired, but he had every right to leave and go wherever he pleased.

It says as much in the letter

and addresses the manner in which he did so.

Wow

What a classless, selfish, funny response. Sounds like a marriage of egoism has broken up.

What was Gilbert thinking was going to happen when James signed a 3 year deal to give himself the option to leave? He should have known this a real possiblity for 3 full years.

How is it that a guy leaving a corporation he got drafted by—yes drafted, not one he has chosen to join—is considered disloyal? I’m not saying that LeBron is not narcissistic—the idea of a tv show to announce is laughable—but this Gilbert guy surpasses anyone for playing the whiny victimization card.

The Heat and The Cavs can both crash and burn for all anyone cares about these guys after this mess.

by lostcauses on Jul 8, 2010 9:19 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah

it’s not like Gilbert’s Cavs didn’t push “the King” and “The Chosen One” publicity angle night and day in their p.r. and marketing campaigns.

by lostcauses on Jul 8, 2010 9:28 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah

and its not like Gilbert said in his letter that LeBron’s moniker of “the King” was self established.

Everything about this letter is garbage. Dan Gilbert, along with everyone else involved with the Cleveland Cavs organization just spent the last few weeks doing everything they could to get this guy back in their organization. And after he decides to leave, he calls him a quitter who gave up in the playoffs. SO one minute you love the guy and are willing to do whatever necessary tyo keep him around, and literally the very next minute he is, and “always has been”, a quitter.

This is the most bitter sounding use of words I have ever read. Cleveland now has nothing and will not compete for anything in the forseeable future.

This letter accomplished one thing: Now LeBron knows he made the right decision. He could have wondered the rest of his life if he should ever have left the Cavs, now he nows it was the right choice to leave. Very un-smooth Gilbert.

Good luck at ever again getting a big free agent to consider playing for Cleveland.

by dbomb on Jul 9, 2010 11:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Good luck Gilbert

I’ll actually be rooting for you. He sounds like a owner who is a fan. and I love that. Many people would put Cleveland in the same boat as Portland as a “Undesirable destination” I love Portland and I wouldnt want to own an other team. Good luck to you and honestly screw Miami… not because they brought in three of the top 7 players in the league… if not 3 of the top 5. But because they are a team full of fair weather fans who only support their home teams if they are a true contender. FAKE FAKE FAKE MIAMI the LA of the east. (I’d even give LA fans a advantage in fandom)

C*mcast sucks!
