Outlaw and Websters breakout season
I'm tired of all the lbj talk so I thought I'd float this out there. With Both Outlaw and Webster joining struggling teams, are we going to see career seasons from both of them? I for one think that both guys are going to thrive in there new homes. Both will likely start for their new teams and should see significantly more time on the floor. I can see both players averaging double didgets and making reall names for themselves. I don't think either is destined for stardome, but I think both will finally get a chance to show what they can do. I think The blazer fans always expect their young players to turn into stars, so we are disappointed when they simply settle into solid players. With these lowered expectations I believe we will see them truly settle into the players they really are. While neither will be winning a lot, I think both will be much happier and more appreciated in their new surroundings. Lets be honest, would we really have been so hard on these guys if all we wanted out of them was solid bench play? Congrats to them, and I hope they do well. I now have a reason to watch NJ and MIN games.

It will be very interesting to see what happens, I hope they have great years, then we can hear the reasons why that didn’t happen in Portland. LIke J. O’neal.
I'm sure both of them will improve their stats
however, I think they will both remain the inconsistent players they were in Portland.

Webster, yes....
but Trout is Trout, no matter where he goes.
Webster is more likely to “Jermaine” us…
After one play today, Bayless walked to the sideline, picked up the garbage bucket that collects the extra basketball balls and then slammed it down forcefully while shouting. For no particular reason. - Ben
I wonder
…if ‘Dave’ who posted “#25!” in the comments on that article is our Dave. If so, well played, sir, well played.

My guess is they plan on using him the same way we did
Come off the bench for Favors, spell LeBigShot for a bit, and T-Will plays pack-up swingman. He’ll see more minutes as the 4 than he did here, but LeBron is big enough that it won’t be a problem if they have to play the 3/4 interchangeably. With both Williams and Favors still developing, Outlaw provides exactly what the Nets need, especially if they sign James and need a shooter.
For as much as people talk about players who leave here and "blow up"...
… how often has it really happened in the modern Blazers era? Sergio? Out of the league. Frye? He improved due to an ideal offense, but he’s nowhere near the allstar cusp. He was just as good for us during times that Aldridge went down (with less three pointers). Case in point, the legendary 12 game winning streak. Jack? Hahaha! Ruffin? Raef? Miles? Even Travis fell on his face when he went to the Clippers. What better opportunity to shine than on the Clippers?! So, who have we let go lately that fulfilled the doomsday prophecy of held back potential bursting into superstardom?
Travis was injured for most of his Clippers tenure
And Steve Blake, by the way, did a lot better in LA than he did in Portland. He increased his assists 50%, improved his field goal shooting by 40 points, and improved his three point shooting by a whopping 60 points.
Of course, no superstars have emerged. But we haven’t really let go of anyone who had the potential to. Marty still has a very high ceiling if he can produce for Minny or another team the way he did for us mid-season. He’ll for sure be more productive there than he was here. The same might go for Travis, but it’s a little more dubious.
About Blake, there was one more stat that changed significantly.
His turnover rate went from 15.0% to a whopping 26.6%. Overall, I’d say Blake did about as well with the Clippers last year as he did with the Blazers. The increase in shooting efficiency and assists was balanced out by the fact that he lost the ability to not throw the ball away. Sure, an increase in assists and turnovers indicates he had to change his role and he also had to get used to new teammates; however, that turnover rate is simply unacceptably high and hurt his team.
I agree that Martell still has some potential. He had his best season after missing practically a full season due to injury, which is impressive. I doubt he’ll blossom into a star, but I think he could be a very nice glue-type starter.
Jack? Hahaha!
I don’t don’t understand the laughter re: Jack. Across the board his stats all took a nice bump upwards last year with the Raptors. While I don’t regret the draft-night trade and I don’t want JJ back on the Blazer’s roster, he’s certainly outperformed Webster (so far) from that 2005 draft class
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I am not mad we let them go
I am just saying they will find their identity more on these poor teams and up their production.
