Free Agent Junk -- 7/8
I work a late shift these days so I'm MIA from the junk. Now the only way to leave my mark is to make the junk at odd hours of the night.
I'm glad that some big names have gone to other teams. This free agency would have been a huge disappointment if most of the players just stayed with their teams. Speaking of disappointment, Lebron better not stay with the Cavs. After all this drama he'd better go make a super team with Wade and Bosh.
I'd tried uploading images with the provided tool and I tried using HTML, but neither worked, so this junk drawer will just have to suck.

"odd hours of the night", usually around 4:30, is my Blazers game time.
Ahhh, the East coast….
Forbidden to forbid!
Latest word is Lebron is going to Miami.
I’m sure he’ll stay in Cleveland. He has an offer there he can’t refuse.

Is anyone really going to watch an hour show on his decision.
If I were a Cleveland fan, this would really leave a bad taste in my mouth. That is, if he ends up going to Miami.

I thought that happened for anyone in Cleveland?

I wont tell anyone.
"[S]ince men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to pursue many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers, and that was that first yoke they placed upon themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of evils the prepared for their descendants. For, besides continuing thus to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit, and as they had at the same time degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet; and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to have them." -Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Something unrealistically homeristic was necessary (e.g., noone will be able to beat the Blazers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). But I like the sucret message.

Or he should advertise the poll in the title.
It’s proven to get 200 or 300 more votes. A legit poll in the JD will draw if advertised.

lmao
That would have been the wackiest thing that happened this summer if Darko Milicic, Channing Frye, Amir Johnson and Drew Gooden hadn’t signed for a combined $114 million on the same day Atlanta offered Joe Johnson $120 million to thank him for leading the Hawks to a four-game sweep in Round 2 in which they were outscored by 25 points per game.

Bill Simmons is incorrect about one thing, which is how a superteam of LBJ, D-Wade, and Chris Bosh ...
will fare in the regular season. That squad would be a 70-win team, although it’s plausible that the Orlando Magic — so long as Dwight Howard is in complete and utter beast mode — or the Los Angeles Lakers next season could, perhaps, take that team out in the playoffs.
I agree with this.
Saying they wouldn’t win 50 is ridiculous. Bill is seriously underrating replacement level talent.
If it happens.

Is it just me, or is it supremely ironic that a bunch of people who want Jay Jensen fired also want to rely on chiropractors? Can you imagine the inquest if we relied heavily on chiros and had an injury record anywhere near last season’s?
Ya know.....I have a hard time getting behind the Fire the Training Staff sentiment running around here
It is slowly becoming the dreaded Bedge Fact that the training staff is to blame. Ya know…it would be different of all of or the majority of the injuries were soft tissue injuries….but many of then are bone injuries and connective tissue injuries…..how can anyone work out to prevent a bone injury??
Phil Mickelson: "A Great shot is when you pull it off.....a smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it"’
I have concerns about the handling of Rudy, Nic and particularly Roy. In the case of both Rudy and Nic, it seems we should’ve insisted on summer surgery, but who knows how the internal politics works with those guys who want to play for their country.
In the case of Roy (his ankle, not the meniscus), seemed like we were consistently rushing him back too soon. Those would be the injuries I’d be concerned about, and actually it’s primarily just the Roy ankle.
Do you mean his hammy? I don't remember an ankle injury
In any case….he was telling them he was good …then he would re-tweak it. But the thing is…unless you want to shut a guy down for the season….hammy are susceptible to re-tweaking

LeBron James and his mother Gloria James are being sued for millions by a man who claims he tried to prove he’s the NBA star’s biological father — but LeBron and his mom tampered with the evidence in a diabolical cover-up. […]
55-year-old Leicester Bryce Stovell claims he met Gloria in a D.C. area bar in 1984 … and had unprotected sex with her on the night they met. […]
According to the docs — filed recently in federal court — Gloria has spent the rest of her life shielding LeBron from the truth. […]
Leicester claims LeBron — through his lawyer — agreed to take a DNA paternity test.
Leicester claims he was given results that showed he was not LeBron’s dad … but several months later, he began to suspect that the results were tampered with … and Gloria and LeBron were behind the fraud.

Kobe tells Y! on new Laker G Steve Blake: “Blake is tough and never backed down from me. He can shoot, handle and make selfless decisions.”
No, but he fits well into a Lakers system that really doesn't need more guys who need touches to score
And he will be available a few years longer than Fisher
I don't think so. Fish has hit so many big shots for them over the years.
And while Fish isn’t known as a good defender, he is at least able to fight through screens consistently, which is something I’m not sure Blake will ever be able to do.

Rudy is in Cairo promoting a charity that supports women and children
A better living situation for children is another concern for Rudy as an international ambassador of PLAN. “In Egypt there are millions of children who cannot get an education and a home. And many of them to survive and support their families, they have to work very hard sometimes.”
To everyone’s surprise, he also wants Spain to win the world championship and sends his well-wishes to the team.

You know, because any time you can play in a city with such rich basketball tradition, you have to do it. It’s hard not to get inspired during the national anthem when you see Rony Seikaly’s number in the rafters.

Players never care about a team's history
Other than the team’s history of making a player famous. Team history is all for the fans.
I agree
I just thought it was funny.
I do think the Lakers history helps get guys… most players are front runners and the Lakers always win so they like the Lakers.
#52
I think I'm the only one here who groaned through most of Simmons' article
Well, “most” is a relative term. By point 10 I was skimming, by 15 I’d closed the window.

also, the Bulls had 0 history until MJ, and now people think of them as like a historic sort of team. The NBA is a pretty young league and it doesn’t take much to give you a reputations.

GOP in HD
Sure
And they drafted someone great and made their team a “historic” team.
Miami getting everyone (except Wade) this way is so cheap to me. I know, it’s free agency, but it’s just a lame way to make a super team.
#52
yeah
I think people are actually slightly underrating the fact that the Heat have no other players. Citing the Celtics is off-base. They already had Perkins and Rondo, they got Big Baby in the Ray Allen trade, and lucked out with James Posey. With the market being the way it is, there won’t be any Posey like bargains this offseason.
Besides Mike Miller
I can’t think of any available good role players that will wanna play for cheap because they’ve made so much or want that ring or something.
#52
+ the guys who made so much money they just wanna ring now are usually crappy non-contributors by that point. Gary Payton and Karl Malone spring to mind.
Brad Miller or Shaq at Center. (Ben Wallace backing them up?)
T-Mac backing up Wade
Luke Ridnour at guard, maybe if Kyle Korver wants a pay cut since LBJ can cover PG.
Taking a flier on Randy Foye at the minimum would be unsurprising.
Just thinking out loud.
Then he's out at MIA because NYK will overpay him.
There are a number of guards who will cover.
I wouldn’t rule out Derek Fisher yet.
I don't think they're nuts enough to bring AI in
Unless they think the other guys can keep him balanced.
hrrm, interesting I haven’t hear much about T-Mac.
Do they still get their MLE, or are they limited to minimum guys?
MLE is only for teams over the cap when the new fiscal year starts I believe
So nope for all teams under the cap on July 1.
And potentially traded player exceptions or injury exceptions they already had
But even NY doesn’t have much there
all those guys seem to be worth more than the minimum (even Foye), and only T-Mac would be in a situation where he’d wanna take a below value contract. Maybe Shaq? I have no idea what he’s thinking these days.
Folks like Brad Miller and Ben Wallace may go there for a season to win a title
Beyond that, that’s why I asked the question above: Can players sign a small one-year contract, then get re-signed with no regard for the cap, in a handshake deal?
The key to that: They got caught.
It’s a lot easier for a player to say “I just wanted to win a title, but now they want to keep me”.
It’s not like they’d publicize it.
Full Bird Rights don’t attach until you have the FA for three years. After two years, you can give a minimum player the average salary.
We had something like that with Joel
Nash signed him to only 2 years, so we didn’t have his Bird Rights.
I forget what exception we used to sign him to above MLE money though…
#52
That'll definitely harm any attempt at a cheap signing
Looks like they’ll get a lot of vets who want a ring. This will be their biggest problem.
Or Jerry Sloan and Rick Adleman

Although not officially retired, Keith Askins’ No. 2 was likewise taken out of circulation since 1999.
Wikipedia sums up his career thusly
A versatile athlete who could play at multiple positions, Askins spent his entire career as a reserve and defensive specialist for the Heat, retiring after being waived by the Heat in 1999 with career totals of 1,852 points and 1,428 rebounds.

Applicants between 18 and 21 years old can get a minor service permit. Minor servers may sell and serve alcohol only in areas where food service is the primary activity and not in areas prohibited to minors. Minors may not mix drinks or work as bartenders or cocktail servers.
Minor servers may enter areas prohibited to minors only long enough to pick up drink orders (to be served only in areas not prohibited to minors), stock supplies and perform food service duties, such as bussing tables and delivering food. On your 21st birthday, the minor permit will allow you all of the privileges of an adult server.

I want what South Korea has on average: 32 Mbps for next to nothing
(One big reason why social gaming is so popular there)
yep. well, the thing is, they don’t really announce that there’s wireless…it’s a little card in the seat pocket.
plus on a 5 hour flight, i’m betting most people’s laptop won’t be on for more than 2 hours of batter life.

it would depend on what movies are available on the digeplayer for me (assuming that my laptop wasn't on its last legs or had a keyboard that worked)
My netbook is primarily a theater screen on planes.
That way I don’t have to rely on what the airplane is showing in mediocre quality.
this new plane is stripped down. no screens, no audio jacks, no free snacks…nothing, nada.
but it has wireless…hahaha
fiftytwo
yep. i think they make a lot of their money for the PDX – SJC, SFO, LAS flights…those folks don’t seem to mind if they have wireless…well, i don’t. flying sucks anyways and if i can do some work/entertainment online, it will pass the time faster than reading
fiftytwo
I'd be fine with just wifi too, depending on price.
Of course, I’d use the laptop for movies and tv, or my mp3 player for music.
Though I like having something on the plane as an alternative for takeoff and landing.
That's because BRP only can afford the new "Tundra" class
It’s Alaska’s new offering for people who should rather do video conferences or send a post card instead of traveling.
hahaha yep.
i rather do videoconferences all day but it’s difficult to have Cisco Telepresence or Tandberg calls when the client doesn’t have it (most systems are internal network only too) or they are old school and want you there in person.
saving the airline industry one flight at a time
fiftytwo
it isn't really all that new
Alaska hasn’t had screens or audio jacks for at least the past 3+ years.
that’s because you actually fly to alaska…
last year, the planes had screens etc on their planes going coast to coast
sadly, it seems like they even have less legroom and arm room

i think they are still independent but using Dell as a new distribution model

No, Mortimer is right.
You should see his foul calls. Half of them are Gordo not looking at the hoop.

I’ll take your word for it, sort of, but not really, because I don’t trust you two to be unbiased when it comes to this guy.
Nah, trust me on this.
Bayless foul calls were impressive in that he was breaking down the defense and getting to the rim.
Gordo foul calls are of him running toward the hoop and catching a pass. Then a bunch of hands go in the air and everyone looks perplexed.

I am HURT that Jake won't trust us.
Wounded to my very CORE.
I think the foul calls were mostly pretty cheap, and Haywurd had a nice ball-fake and score in today’s game and he hit a jumper. Otherwise, it’s not much that I’ve seen to say he’s an NBA player, besides an ability to take advantage of bad refs who call a lot of fouls because no one can foul out.
#52
I can name three nice plays.
Caught a fast break pass and managed to not get swatted.
Caught baseline pass and did an up ’n under.
Caught a elbow pass, pump fake, wide open 15 footer.
That was about it as far as highlights.

NAME ONE.
Now I am strongly on the side of passing and court vision being inherent qualities (one can improve but it’s still an inherent skill, like rebounding) but I am also on your side that Mayo plays with teammates who do nothing but kill assists.
Z-Bop and GayDay are total ball-holders who erase assists from existence.
But who learned to pass who didn’t show the ability to pass right away?

FWIW, Presti was the major player in the Spurs drafting Tony Parker. No one else in the org believed Parker would turn out to do anything and Presti pressed for Pop to take a look at a second workout after Parker didn’t impress in the first.

Then she had the nerve to comment on Blazer fans being “classless” because she had heard that we were booing an ex-player (or something to the sort). Steve Blake(notes) is not a very good NBA point guard, but at 29 years of age he is in his physical prime, and his hybrid guard skills will work well with the Los Angeles Lakers’ offense. At four years and $16 million, Blake will be making below the average salary, perfect for someone of his stature, even if he does end up starting for an NBA champion.

The list is potentially fairly large
here is what by my count is the list of players how have won an NCAA and an NBA championship since the ABA/NBA merger (i.e. since the 76-77 season), in no real particular order:
*Jamaal Wilkes
*Jabbar
*Walton
*Quinn Buckner
*Billy Thompson
*Milt Wagner
*Rick Robey
*Ray Tolbert
*Magic
*James Worthy
*Isiah Thomas
*Rodney McCray
*Mark Randall (although he had the Adam Morrison role during the playoffs of not playing)
*Glen Rice
*MJ
*Antoine Walker
*Derek Anderson
*Nazr Mohammed
*Rip Hamilton
*Butch Lee
also if you go further back then you will need to add Bill Russell, John Havlicek, KC Jones, and others. While certainly not everyone on this list won a state championship in high school, I would suspect that many (most?) of them did.
The much more exclusive list.
Are the people who back-to-back from College to NBA winning a championship.

If Lebron indeed goes to Miami, they have to renounce Udonis Haslem.
I think he would be a great pickup as a backup PF for the Blazers. Good defender, hustles, and can occasionally knock down that 15 footer. Besides another wing defender and backup PG, backup power forward is a place of concern.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Can they re-sign him to a vet min?
I think he’d want to stay in Miami. He and DWade love each other, and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind another ring.
Vet Min is a paltry sum.
I think Haslem can at least get a short term MLE contract in this market.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
He's not that young, it'd be his last good-sized deal
It would make more sense for him to get a good 6 million a year deal somewhere.
Some of us argue that he doesn’t give you much more than what Dante can give you, and would be more expensive. Haslem has experience though.
#52
I'd read a story about Haslem back in May in which the writer
speculated that Haslem will go wherever Wade goes, even if it’s for the vet min. And that Wade would make sure that whatever team he’s on would be willing to sign Haslem.
It'd be cool if he stays
And I wouldn’t be surprised. I hope he has managed his money well, because he’d literally be giving up millions and he hasn’t made what Wade will make in 2 years for his career.

i think basketball is the one sport where the experience most attaches you to the individual as they appear. For example, in football, they wear pads and helmets. In baseball and soccer they’re way out in the outfield. For basketball it’s something different: low numbers, less clothes, closer to the action. My coach used to say this drove the ego, so beware.

that is as a basketball player, careful. As a spectator it might just get us closer to the professional athletes. I have a hard time finding everyone like-able; i don’t how the professional athlete would fit into this dilemma. but, then again, i’m a jerk.

Probably blasphemy here
but my hatred of Kobe’s ebbed away over the years. To the point where I kinda like him now. I definitely respect him. And I probably respect his opinion when it comes to basketball more than any other player in the league.
I hate the way he treats his teammates with absolute contempt and throws them under the bus at the first sign of adversity.
Yes.
But he demands far more of himself than he does of any of his teammates, then he puts in the work to get there. That’s admirable to me.
yeah, Kobe's probably not that bad
Part of what rubs me against him is every time LeBron does something wrong, people say “oh, Kobe would never do… he always gives 100%,” particularly game 5 of the Boston series. When the fact is Kobe already freaking did it.
I know this portrayal isn’t all Kobe’s fault, but it still rubs me the wrong way.

This is so Kobe
Kobe finally improvised with a sassy hand-gesture shuffle. He wiped a pile of imaginary dirt off of his shoulder for a while, then added a schoolmarm finger waggle while making the least convincing tough-guy face I’ve ever seen. It was like a high-school production of West Side Story.
POSEUR.

Everyone left in the playoffs is disturbingly likable. I have nothing to look forward to until next year.
I respect Kobe as a talented player
I dislike how overrated he is, dislike his weird personality and how poseury he is, and how he has appeared to treat his teammates.
I used to hate Shaq, but once Shaq left LA I liked him more.

That recent GQ profile on him was probably the tipping point for me. I think I liked him after that.

I will still enjoy watching LeBron play more, but off the court it’d be hard to be a bigger D than he is right now.
It just looks so bad.
I don’t think anyone really thinks this is a good thing to do.
Yeah, we’re all (mostly) gonna watch, but it still ain’t a good way to handle this.
#52
I will say I think he and his handlers have really screwed up in calculating how this would play. Don’t know what they were thinking.
This is a bigger deal than I think people are acknowledging.
Sure, blame lies with LeBron in the end, but this isn’t a one man operation.
i'm with Timmay! on this one
LeBron has to make the call on whether or not he is going to go through with this. His handlers are there to advise/bounce ideas off and do the leg work to make things happen. But the decision making power should rest solely on LeBron’s shoulders.
I'm not saying LeBron isn't ultimately responsible.
But this would be far from the first time a naive very successful entertainer had his image tarnished because of his loyalty to the people he surrounded himself with.
He's had handlers since high school
If he’s still naive, the blame still rests on him.
LBJ is the key here. It’s all him.
This is what I mean.
He’s had close ‘friends’ surrounding him his whole life. It’s how he developed as a human being and adult: with people whispering in his ear and doting on his every request. He’s likely never been challenged any where other than the basketball court his entire life. How are you supposed to gain proper perspective when this is how you developed?
That was his decision, and to some extent his family's decision.
He chose all this, it’s all on him.
I won’t excuse any of LBJ’s behavior simply because he was coddled. He chose to be coddled.
Not asking you to absolve him of blame.
Just to see the whole picture. He was coddled from the time he was in middle school! To say that it was his decision to continue to be coddled strikes me as kinda naive.
There's never been any question of the whole picture.
The question was whether this is a one man operation. The answer is yes, and he’s handling it poorly. The rest is just reasons he’s handling it poorly.
As you can tell, I have zero sympathy for the "Chosen 1".
He should have sent out a press release days ago.
I have finally decided to get a tattoo
“The Chosen 92”
Phil Mickelson: "A Great shot is when you pull it off.....a smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it"’
I get what ya both mean
It is Lebron. There are maybe understandable REASONS that he doesn’t have the common sense to know it is dumb, but it is still him being okay with it— for whatever reason.
No matter what, that IS Lebron. Even if he is just a product of how he was coddled and raised since a 7th grader.
#52
True.
But if he’s the product of how his handlers brought him up (and these are the same handlers and advisers running his PR campaign), what share of the blame should we credit them?
They get blame for being clueless as well
But ultimately, Lebron is a man, he’s 40, it’s his call and even if he comes to the wrong decision because of those people around him, it’s still his responsibility.
#52
by Mortimer on Jul 8, 2010 2:12 PM PDT up reply actions 3 recs
This is an extreme example
But let’s say Lebron commits some sort of crime that can be explained by his turbulent upbringing and bad people around him… it’s still him doing it.
He’s too old now to hide behind others making decisions for him, whether they are financial, PR, career, whatever. That goes for anyone.
#52
no one wants to relieve him of blame, but there’s no way the fish bowl he’s lived in since he was 12 doesn’t contribute to his arrogance. That’s why the B-Roy comparisons people make are so off the mark.
I agree, it all contributes
Just like all of our upbringings help make us who we are. I don’t deny that.
I just think he’s a grown dude.
#52
Actually, I was going to bring up a similar example but arguing the opposite
The story of a trailer trash 13yo girl with a hooker mom who is seduced by a dashing man, with whom she runs off with. The man turns out to be a sociopath who’s really into abducting girls, abusing then murdering them. In all the murders, it is the original 13yo girl who pulls the trigger.
Yeah, it all depends
But we ARE talking about a grown man, not a kid, and not someone with a mental handicap that we know of.
Just a guy who, because of his God given body and great talent, has been living in a bubble that doesn’t give him the awareness to NOT be okay with the “I hate you Cleveland” special.
It can be explained, but as an adult it’s still him.
I’d say his upbringing isn’t so traumatic that he can’t tell what is wrong or right, he just isn’t likely that good at decisions like this.
#52
I obviously pulled as extreme an example as I could, and I agree that ultimately it’s on LBJ. But to absolve his handlers of all blame also seems wrong to me. And if they’re getting some of the blame, I’m just trying to figure out in my head: how much?
I blame them for also being adults who make bad decisions
But since Lebron is the front man who stands to benefit or lose by these sort of decisions, I give him more blame.
#52
I don't know or can't say what percentage is who or whatever.
Especially without knowing how it all was decided.
#52
LBJ is responsible for his actions
He’s 100% responsible. There is no shared blame. If he didn’t like their plans, he could fire them. It’s not like they went behind his back.
Lebron is obviously OK with the way they run things
or else he would have fired them.
That still falls on him.
and it isn't like he doesn't have other options for getting advice either
he has Warren Buffet on speed dial. I am sure that Warren could give him some sage advice about how to not be a dork
It's his people, yeah
But he’s a part of that decision making at least a LITTLE bit.
His handlers, how they brought it to ESPN and everything, it’s just so pinheaded.
#52
But these guys don’t really have professional handlers, or the professional handlers don’t have enough say in the decisions. They have idiot “advisors” who have no knowledge of public relations.

Well, if he stays, I’m sure they’d forgive him.
The 2 year “will he go will he stay” is bad enough. I always figured he’d stay though, until this season… but I am an idiot. I hope he stays because that team and franchise won’t recover.
Then the special, I can’t stress it enough how dumb it is. I think it is less dumb if he stays in Cleveland, because then I guess I don’t mind the dramatics. If not Cleveland, then it shows he just doesn’t give a damn about those fans and hasn’t for years.
And that may very well be the case!

i think he comes off pretty bad for what he did on twitter and all that. he basically gave the finger to the toronto organization and fans. sure, he’s gonna end up in a good situation, but he hasn’t shown much class doing it.
lebron has a glorified press conference and all of a sudden he is the great satan, glory-hog, babykiller of the nba.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Actually that happened awhile ago.

yeah but you get my point. lebron has never done anything that’s really that “bad” except get a lot of attention.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Depends on how you define really bad.
Walking off of the court after the ECFs last year and mailing in his performance against the Celtics this playoffs was not about getting too much attention but about him being a whiny lil beyotch. And his stupid tattoo and his chalk throwing nonsense doesn’t help. Lots of people get lots of attention. Lebron does stupid things with it.
"I don’t give a ZACH about no trade rumors. As long as somebody ‘CTC’ at the end of the day, I’m with them. For all you that don’t know what CTC means, that’s ‘Cut the Check. I just go out there and play. Again, somebody just ’CTC'." -Sheed

well, i disagree with your entire post except your subject line. i also think it’s funny that having a bad game becomes “mailing it in” when it’s lebron having the bad game. did Kobe mail it in when he couldn’t hit a shot in the finals? or does that not count cause his team still won?
and walking off the court thing is way overblown. you rememeber the Pistons back in the day right? when they walked off the court before the game was over? come on, walking off the court after a loss like that isn’t that bad.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
i know you’re being sarcastic here, but this is my point. it was a bad game. plain and simple. he’s not immune to them obviously. but i find it hard to believe when people say he mailed it in. that sounds like sour grapes. reminds me of when i really really didn’t like Jordan and my only defense was “he’s a ball hog.” every gripe against lebron sounds petty to me just like i sounded back then.

We must have been watching different Finals games.
I saw Kobe being stopped in the last game. He had a huge finals series before that. Lebron wasn’t stopped. Who stopped him? He had reason to mail it in because he had already decided that the Cavs weren’t where he was going to stay. He had the best team of his career and didn’t do anything to rise them above where they were. If Lebron was a GOAT, he’d step up.
And the Pistons always got flack, but it didn’t matter. They are not the faces of the league or superstars. None of them were. If you are going to get a stupid chosen1 tat, then you are going to be held to a different standard.

I missed that game.
I think the Cavs did as much as they could to give him a winner.
Most of all, I think the fans deserve better than getting their face rubbed in this in grandiose fashion. It’s bad enough to lose the best player for nothing, but to have it on a heavily hyped special…
Yuck. Glad I ain’t a Cleveland fan. It’d be like losing your franchise, but not quite.

It's gross.
And the Cavs gave him a much better team than people want to give them credit for. Probably the first team he had that would be playoff definite even without him.

they really lost any sense of creativity
Shaq? Antwan Jamison? Taking contracts other teams don’t want has its place, but shouldn’t be your entire strategy.
A guy that talented.
Can’t win all of the time by himself. But he certainly should be able to overtake a moment in a game when no one can guard him. He didn’t drive, why? Big Baby or KG should be too slow to block him consistently. Remember what he did to the Pistons a few years ago? Nothing stoped him from taking over except his want to chuck shots.

remember Kobe's game 5 vs. the Celts?
nothing stopped him from doing that in Game 7.
I agree that LeBron is acting like a class A d-bag, but to accuse him of not trying on the basketball court is nuts.
Entirely different players.
If Kobe’s shot don’t fall and he’s not getting foul calls handed to him, he’s in trouble facing a defensive front line even with Perkins. Comparing them is nuts. Kobe is a peaked SG adjusting his game on the downward spiral. Lebron could have taken over his game.

Everything Bosh did was small scale
He’d come out of this looking bad if he went somewhere for the most money and to be The Man, when he isn’t The Man-worthy.
Lebron is flipping off his former team and fans on live national TV. It’s an hour long special, not a few tweets. No matter where he ends up, that’s douchey.

it’s a press conference. there is one for every free agent signing. this isn’t different in my mind. it’s just bigger. he’s one of the 5 most important athletes worldwide. if media in MJ’s day was what it is today, i could very easily see this happening for him. i don’t see what the big deal about this is.

I think you're being a contrarian
I don’t care about the “walk off” and I think Lebron is the best player and anything before wasn’t really evidence of some type of jerkitude.
But this is extremely jerky to Cavs fans. EXTREMELY. And I think it’ll be more than a press conference. It’s a special!
Lebron comes out of this looking very douchy and exhibiting how common sense about how this would be perceived.

he demanded $30 million (or so) a year
and everybody agreed that the Bulls needed to pay him that money.
And why wouldn't they?
And getting paid isn’t the issue here. Jordan stayed with a crap franchise for longer than Lebron has and won with them and then said show me the money. Lebron can get paid the same anywhere.

oh I agree with you
Jordan’s $$$ demands are the closest that he came to having a free agent moment like LeBron has been milking for more than a year. But even then Jordan understood that all he needed to do was hold a press conference, say what his decision was, maybe answer 10 minutes worth of questions and then the news cycle will be all about MJ, instead of LeBron going out of his way to capture the news cycle by having a 1 hour special about how awesome LeBron is.
I mean, the special kinda fits how long and drawn out this 2 year "wait for 2010" process has been.
But it doesn’t make it any less lame city.

Bosh tweeted a question about where he should go
How that is equal with an hourlong special where the best player in the world finally announces to his hometown team that he strung along for 2 years that he is leaving them… doesn’t compute.
Bosh isn’t that special, and his tweets don’t really matter.

i’m here. i already deleted one response to idol.
i agree that Bosh isn’t as important as Lebron. but if you look at the two people not as players but as people, i don’t see how lebron weighing a decision about whether to leave and then having a press conference about it is that bad. Bosh said, pretty much, “i hate toronto and i’m getting out of here.” he never acknowledged anything about what the city or fans have done for him. he’s shown no magnanimity. all along lebron has been saying how much he loves cleveland/akron and how it will always be his home.
if he does go to Miami, it obviously isn’t a money grab, he’s going to the situation he feels would be provide him a chance to win a ring, which is what is most important to him.
i do think, however, that this move, if he makes it, will completely remove him from the “greatest of all time” discussion and put him on a tier below MJ/Kobe. he’s lowering himself to go to Miami, where he won’t be top dog. this is why i think the move to miami would be a poor one: too many alpha dogs, someone won’t be happy, and someone will come out looking even worse than they may or may not right now.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
if LeBron was just having a press conference then we wouldn't even be having this conversation
instead he is having a 1 hour special about it. Very different in my view
i disagree. anything he does will be talked about. and people that don’t like him will be negative, and people that like him will be positive, or not care.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Its one thing to have ESPN talking heads discussing the press conference
It’s another to make your own special and get ESPN to air it.
#52
if ESPN didn’t think it would make them money, they wouldn’t air it. come on…..
after all, Lebron is donating all proceeds he would get from this to charity, lest we forget.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Must be the only way to donate money to charity
That is as shallow an attempt to pretend it’s about something that it isn’t about as there is. It’s TOTALLY a puff piece that is focused on Lebron breaking the hearts of his city’s fans.
Of course ESPN will make money, that ain’t the point.
#52
yeah, ESPN agreeing to air it has nothing to do with anything.
He’s the one that came up with the entire to have a special in the first place.
Of course ESPN is going to play along.

people here beat him up for anything he does. it’s obviously not just because of the special. the special is just another reason.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Well, I can't speak for others
I never beat him up before this.
I think it’s lame for Cleveland fans to lose him, but Lebron can leave if he wants to.
But the way he is leaving and rubbing their faces with it in a special is what I don’t like.
I usually defend Lebron.
#52
Lebron doesn't seem to care
since he continues to do this kind of crap.
All he cares about is himself. he doesn’t give a damn about what fans actually think of him. He has made that abundantly clear, especially if he punches every single Cleveland fan in the face when he leaves.
here is another way to think out it
when Roy agreed to his extension, a press conference was held, the extension was formally announced, Roy answered some questions and when it was over everyone felt good.
Imagine if instead of this, Roy had announced that there would be a 1 hour special in which he would declare whether or not he would accept the Blazer’s offer, and then spend the other 55 minutes of the time slot doing something else to promote himself
How would you feel about that? Because that is in essence what LeBron is doing with the special
the crucial difference between
this and the a press conference is that a press conference is held for the benefit of the media and the public. The newsmaker discloses the news, then makes himself available to explain it in a neutral setting. By producing his own announcement, it caters exclusively to LeBron instead of the public at large.
Brandon Roy is not and will never be at the level Lebron is. ever. no one cares about Roy on a national level. not true of lebron.
you think over at other basketball blogs conversations like this go on about Brandon Roy? they don’t.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
And no one cares about Bosh
either, in comparison to Lebron.
But you still compared the two and their actions.
is Bosh being talked about on a national level right now? yep.
did anyone in the nation outside the PNW care about Roy’s extension? nope.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
He'd be just as huge an acquisition as Bosh
if he was an FA this summer. People would be talking about him like the big consolation prize for teams that lose out on LBJ/Wade, except not in the condescending way they talk about JJ.
Roy would have been on JJ’s level if he was a free agent this year.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
He's better considered than JJ
No one would write mocking articles about the team that signs him to a max.
Nobody freaks out over RFAs
No one talked about Lebron or Wade or anyone when they were RFA’s. They were getting re-signed.
They talked about the length of their deals, because they were gonna be a UFA then.
#52
The general consensus is that Joe Johnson at 20 million a year is a joke
I don’t think Roy would be seen as a jokey joke with that sort of price tag.
Age is a part of it, but so is being a gooder player.
yeah, some regular fans think of them as equals.
#52
you could replace Brandon Roy in my example with any other player in the league who is weighing an extension offer, even those that do have a larger national profile (Kobe, Durant, Dwight Howard, etc)
and if they had gone for the 1 hour special route they would be similarly bashed on as LeBron is now.
If LeBron had decided to hold a simple press conference anyplace, even if ESPN was going to broadcast it live) to announce to the teams who he would play for the tenor of this discussion would be far far different. Instead of talking as much about how LeBron is more concerned with the LeBron brand than his basketball abilities we would be talking more about where we think he is going.
NO ONE made a big deal about Durant signing an extension.
And he’s the league’s golden child as well.
No one makes a big deal about any extension
Even LBJ’s rookie extension wasn’t a big deal.
I think LBJ’s action look bad on their own, not taking rookie extensions into account.
Durant also didn't drag the deal out
they came to terms in 2 minutes. And Durant later tweeted his thoughts in 140 characters or less instead of going on about his thoughts for 1 hour of prime time television
I think its clear that LeBron is an egomaniac and Durant isn’t. That seems pretty undeniable to me.
The questions is how big a deal we should be making of LeBron’s clear egomaniacism.
Plenty.
Until he wins anything I’m giving him nothing but grief.
It's the end of the world.
We’ll find something new to talk about soon, but I do maintain it’s pretty classless and that’s why we’re harpin’ on it.
#52
fair enough.
From my perspective, he’s a douchy egomaniac, but dang if he isn’t a compelling one as well as a basketball genius. I’ll be tuning in.
Funny enough, I don't have local news on either
Unless you want to wade through the junk on Twitter, it’s the best option for live coverage though.
I really think these situations are not comparable
I mean, there are rookie contract extensions every year, and they all are low profile, with rare exceptions. All of them end with a small story.
These are getting compared because they happened in the same week. I’d rather compare similar situations, not similar time frames.
That's a more reasonable comparison.
It’s not perfect (this is an insanely unique situation this summer), but it’s closer.
here was Kobe's approach
he was courted by a couple of teams (Bulls, Lakers, Clippers were the 3 favorites), when he made his decision he said that he would tell everyone at a press conference the next day. When the press conference convened he said that he would sign with the Lakers, he took some questions, he left and then this dominated the sports news cycle for the day.
Granted perhaps Kobe couldn’t have pulled off an hour of live TV solely to announce his decision (as he was awaiting trial for rape at the time), but this approach didn’t swing anybody to one side or another as to their opinions of Kobe, unlike LeBron’s method of doing this.
i agree with dtl. like simmons said, it’s all about building your brand now, not building yourself as a person.
any non-rape/adultery/other crimes publicity is good publicity.
That's what I'm sayin'
It goes beyond a press conference, it’s a special thought up and planned by Lebron and his Peoples.
I think it’s too early to say if he’ll go down as below MJ/Kobe(?! Kobe?). Maybe he’ll prove to be the ultimate alpha dogg and will totally out alpha Wade and Bosh; both alphas in their own right.
Lebron is better than Kobe, but has been on worser teams. Kobe has never been as good as Lebron is now. Except at shootin’.
#52
to be on par with Jordan
LeBron would almost have to win six titles. His individual stats are basically on par with MJ, and it’s unlikely he’d be able to separate himself there. And if he wins four or five, Jordan would be greater having given up two years to baseball.
He'll be below MJ, I'd think
Just because MJ seems more competitive and driven.
But I place Lebron as above Kobe in terms of talent, and Kobe was lucky to play with the most dominant player of his era in Young Shaq, and then have a great team around him later on.
The Only-Kobe years weren’t good.
#52
MJ needed Phil to win.

I don't know how to separate Lebron the person and the player
I’ll give you this much. If this wasn’t about ridiculous amounts of money to play a game and a guy who many think could be called the greatest to ever play the game, it wouldn’t mean the same thing. Also, why hate on a guy who uses every bit of the media to perfect hype himself when that’s the thing to do?
Maybe my expectations of Lebron were just too high. It seemed like he was an unselfish mega-uperstar and those haven’t existed (at least in years). But he’s just another guy using the system to raise his shine. Good for him I guess but I, personally, dislike him greatly for it and will always feel that something within himself (not necessarily his attitude or mailing it in but i’ll keep saying it like I’ll keep calling him lechoke) kept him from having a performance that final game.

I actually agree a lot with your final point.
Not just because he’s not going to be alpha dog but because he’s not able to stick it out with the one team. The greats stuck it out with their teams.

If you look at the top-10, there are only four players who weren’t drafted by either the Lakers or the Celtics. Three of them had to be traded to win their first championship. The fourth was the greatest of all time. Being able to win with your original team mostly comes down to luck.
The further you go on that list.
The more you see people who stayed on one team.

DIERTJD?
I disagree but who can prove luck. Since the conversation started about Lebron I will say that since the only guy most will agree stands in his way for being the GOAT is MJ. MJ’s career started just like Lebrons. He stuck it out until he got a great coach that could teach him to win in the NBA.
"I don’t give a ZACH about no trade rumors. As long as somebody ‘CTC’ at the end of the day, I’m with them. For all you that don’t know what CTC means, that’s ‘Cut the Check. I just go out there and play. Again, somebody just ’CTC'." -Sheed
well
my crude method of proving luck was just saying being on the Lakers or Celts was pretty helpful in being considered an all-timer.
Now if LBJ wants to be on the same level as MJ, it would obviously be a huge feather in his cap to pull Cleveland to the promise land.
Your point is fair to a point.
Of course, the Celtics were nothing before Cousy and Russell and the LA Lakers were Elgin and West so it’s hard to compare that era. But yeah, it’s impossible to say Bird and Magic would have stuck around if they were drafted by the Mavs and Nets or something. Kobe definitely wouldn’t have.

Finally got around to watching Sonicsgate.
Figured now would be as good a time as any because I knew it would make me unbelievably angry, but I think I’m locked enough in my Thunder fanhood that it won’t affect that part of my relationship to the team. But all I want to do is string together a lot of expletives.
if you aren't getting better, you are getting worse
so…with the possibility of these stars consolidating into 2 or 3 teams…how do we fit in? it seems like we are taking baby steps when other teams are jogging or sprinting.

the Blazers will be higher in the NBA hierarchy next year than they were this year. Only the Heat (with LeBron) will have hurdled us. We move ahead of the Suns, the Celtics, the Cavs, the Jazz, and possibly the Nuggets and Mavericks. I’d say we’d have to expect to get to the WCF next year and give the Lakers a series.
And if we get healthy/stay healthy
Who knows what could happen?
The west is soooooooo wide open right now.

yeah, the Lakers are very vulnerable
with Artest having got his championship, he won’t feel tied to relative sanity. And they’re not getting any younger.
the lakers
are probably the most laxidasical championship team i can think of in recent memory. that whole team drinks the medias kool aid and think that they should be handed the crown. the current lakers would get their butts kicked by mj’s bulls, shaq’s lakers, duncan’s spurs.

No Blazers, no Nuggets, no Spurs, and no Mavs. They got great matchups against the Thunder, Jazz, and Suns.

The Nuggets would’ve been a much tougher matchup for the Lakers pre-implosion, but they imploded so…
Can't blame them.

Expect to get to the WCF seems a bit much,
but it’s certainly well within the range of possibility. I do love how Utah’s looking at the mo, though.
of course nothing's dead cert
but I see the Blazers as the second best team in the West next year. Is that just homerism?
i think we should get the wcf
if we went back 3 years ago…and plotted our growth, i would have expected a wcf in 3 years. this year was a step back for us getting kicked out in the 1st round. if you give us a pass bc of all the injuries, then if we’d been healthy we should have gotten to the 2nd or 3rd round. so wfc should be something we are striving for.

I see Greg being healthy as a very big step
If that happens, I won’t worry about picking up too many other pieces. I’d wait until after the season to evaluate.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
theres a ton of doubt
whether IF we stay healthy…most fans/teams seem pretty optomistic that if a big player goes down in an injury that they’ll rebound next year. however despite our youthful core, most of our fans are pretty cautious before we display any confidence that’ll be healthy. if we are honestly that pessimistic about the health of our team…we are just rolling the dice year in year out i think.

roy looked like hell the first 1/4 of the season. he’ll be better next year, now that he’s been playing ball this summer
That whole "not touching a basketball all summer" thing
Didn’t work out. It was horrible watching him dribble early in the season.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
Roy was generally crappy for the first 1/4 of the season. He was out of shape and his handle looked shaky. That didn’t have to do with Oden.
He was off with everyone
Oden gets included with it because he was New Oden, and Roy certainly isn’t used to that.
I think they just need time, but it’s up to Roy to change more than Oden. Oden just needs to do what he do and Roy needs to learn how to find him and work off of him.

Although most of his books are probably too light and meaningless to really fit the meaning, I would say Lamb qualifies.
And by the way, everyone should read Lamb.

Yeah, Lamb is sort of an exception
it’s certainly his best work. But for the most part he (intentionally) doesn’t take it seriously enough for most people to qualify it as a Great American Novel.

for serious
there’s certainly something wrong with the mass production of “literature” these days. Chricton and all those guys who write the same crappy mystery novel over and over (I don’t know any of their names from the top of my head) and the huge success of the Twilight series, along with Dr. Phil and the people like him, are great examples of this. But to say literature, or the American Novel, is dead is an asinine and pathetic cry for attention.

I haven’t read Chrichton, I didn’t mean to place him in the “Crappy mystery novels” guys. There’s a group of writers though who specialize in that same sort of plotline that is rehashed over and over and make tons of money off of it, but I cannot remember any of their names.

Gordo does a pump fake and makes a wide open 15 footer.

It’s weird.
And I don’t think it’s just because I hate that stupid jerk’s face.
THAT’S WHY THEY DRAFTED HIM #9.

I will say one positive aspect of Hayward's game.
He’s not out of control. Usually gathers himself and stays balanced. Aside from the crazy 3pt line drives, he doesn’t go out of control.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Also, to be fair, Kamla has voraciously defended every draft pick
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
It is actually something I like about Kamla
He is a cheerleader of players, especially when they are new, and gives them a chance to show what they are (although he’ll praise them a lot along the way whether they deserve it or not).
#52
That "not out of control", I say, works against him
He doesn’t seem raw, despite being new to basketball (relatively). He seems like he is under control and not really gonna get better in that regard… which is different for most young players.

haha. lebron wasn’t the one who made that decision. he had advisors, agents, his friends all helping him promote his brand as much as possible.
and i think i read ESPN are the ones who approached him to do the special
Lebron SHOULD be making the decision

unless ESPN is lying about this statement, then the idea came from James' camp
But sources tell Broussard that representatives for James contacted the network, proposing that James makes his announcement during a 9 p.m. ET special.
but, he goes: ‘how do i best promote my brand and make bank? remember, one of my main goals is to become a billionaire. how do i do that, agent/worldwide wes/jay z/friends/advisor/publicist?’

no. but you have the motive wrong. he doesn’t care how he’s perceived as aperson. he cares about being perceived. he’s not trying to piss of cleveland, he’s trying to get publicity and money

I don’t even think this will hurt his career, and if he wins everyone forgets this quickly— hell, it’ll be forgotten no matter what in a few weeks
But it still gets him promoted to King Douche of the Doucherlands.

yeah, and that's his decision.
Not his advisors and other people. Which is the point you originally brought up.
….but his decision is made based on the information his advisors give him. nobody there is going to tell him “don’t be an ass lebron, even if it means not promoting your brand”
bad decisions can be easily made when all the information presented to you is pointing one way

here is where LeBron is different than the average athlete
HE CAN GET ADVICE FROM ANYBODY HE WANTS!
If he wanted to surround himself with some better marketing professionals he could call up Warren Buffet, Phil Knight, Jay-Z, perhaps even the President and say “Hey I think I need some more marketing talent in my inner circle. Do you have any suggestions?”
but isn't personality important to the whole marketing part of the brand?
People liked Jordan because the personality that they saw of him was one that they wanted to relate to. This whole episode paints LeBron as a bit of an egomaniac and a jerk. Which isn’t to say that either one is true or not, but if you are marketing one thing then you want that to be a consistent message. And instead of the message of “LeBron is a great basketball player, buy his stuff” the message that is coming through is “LeBron is a jerkface”
These are his lifelong friends that depend on LeBron for their livlihoods.
Could you do that to your best friends? It isn’t easy.
I'm not sure how to reply. It's not like he was in prison.
He can do whatever he’d like. He can be whatever person he wants to be, basically. He’s not institutionalized.
I know.
Ultimate responsibility lies with LeBron. But it is a very very closed ecosystem in which he was raised. Different than even KD or most other stars since he was pegged as the next MJ at a very very young age. When you are raised in a bubble composed of a network of closely knit people, and you are also the economic engine that supports your whole network…. I dunno, I think it’s kinda naive for an outsider to just point a finger and say ‘well he’s an idiot and shoulda fired those guys long time ago’
For Lebron or people judging him?
But it is kinda naive for any of us to think we actually know what is going on, in Lebron’s head or in his camp.
I certainly don't claim to understand what's happening inside him
I simply don’t believe his actions should be attributed to anyone but Lebron.
This is entirely fair.
Even if he did accept whatever a friend told him or used a ouiji board to decide, it’s his decision to do that.

Of course.
There’s a difference between surrounding yourself with friends who are advisors who you “don’t have the heart to fire” (or equivalent), and having a few friends that you think you can trust their opinions from experience.
They should not be making huge business decisions for him though.
Sure, everyone asks opinions of your friends, but they shouldn’t be the ones making decisions, and it doesn’t mean they are qualified to do so.
and if the only advice you are getting on business matters is from your high school buddies
especially when you hang out with Warren Buffett on occasion then you are foolish
Yes, he did.
He made the decision to surround himself with these people and he made the decision to take their advice.
its one thing to have buddies to help you decide what car to buy, where to go on vacation
its quite another one to rely on them to help you make multi-million $$ decisions
Or how to improve your brand even
"I don’t give a ZACH about no trade rumors. As long as somebody ‘CTC’ at the end of the day, I’m with them. For all you that don’t know what CTC means, that’s ‘Cut the Check. I just go out there and play. Again, somebody just ’CTC'." -Sheed
Do you realize how many prof athletes are broke
because they felt pressured to overextend themselves to their family and friends.
Do you really believe that's why most end up broke?
Not poor moneymanagement or personal dumb spending?
"I don’t give a ZACH about no trade rumors. As long as somebody ‘CTC’ at the end of the day, I’m with them. For all you that don’t know what CTC means, that’s ‘Cut the Check. I just go out there and play. Again, somebody just ’CTC'." -Sheed
Obviously it's a combination of factors.
But overextending yourself to your friends and family is part of poor money management, imo.
Fair enough.
I just think buying your mom a house doesn’t compare to buying yourself five cars. But yeah sure this is part of it.

A number of athletes basically pay a ton of people around them.
Apparently, it’s a popular reason for financial issues.
It all goes back to personal responsibility.
Heck, if you want to help them, offer to pay for their college expenses and tell them to get a degree, and you’ll help them get into college.
But just letting them live on a stipend until you run out of money? That’s all about personal responsibility.
Teach them to be fisherman instead of giving them fish.
Or something.
Yeah, I guess I can see how this happens. You want to be “that guy” and part of that is setting up your homies for life. I guess.

There is an old adage that goes like this:
A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client
likewise a person who has all of his high school buddies as his inner circle needs to get a head check
yeah, I agree
it’s his fault. The whole idea of “advisers” is just a cancer in sports culture, it seems.

it's just a fancy word for giving a little bit at a time until you achive the desired effect, hence "titrate to effect."
It’s usually for when you drip a medication into an IV as opposed to giving a shot through the IV with a syringe.

I priced AC units today but just cannot justify the $400 it would require for a few hot days a year.
I only have a sliding glass door in my bedroom, no windows. I have 4 choices for AC. Central air for 5 grand, cutting a hole in my wall to accommodate a normal room AC unit, buy a $400 sliding glass door unit, or buy a $400 portable unit. Sucks. Have looked for cheaper sliding glass door or portable units and they just aren’t out there.

I don't about the dry heat thing
I worked in a bowling alley down in Medford (very dry heat) that had nothing but swamp coolers….it was fine …felt cool….as long as you stood still….as soon as you moved (bowled, for instance), you were covered in sweat….it wasn’t the heat but the humidity that the things put out. Yuck

But the production crew seem serious and excited about making new episodes. I hope they renew it soon.

I wasn’t too disappointed when they did the season finale because it seemed like they had gotten all they could out of it. That being said, I loved that show.

I respect that show for trying to keep up with a storyline when so many cartoons these days just get by on randomness and no progression of plot.

I enjoyed the final scene of the last episode (the BBQ), but I think the original ending, Luanne's wedding, was better.

They know each other and are already comfortable. They’re the mid-20’s version of the Celtics.
Exactly.
Although it’s feasible that Orlando or Los Angeles could upset Miami in the playoffs next season, the Heat will still win around 70 regular season games—if not break the Chicago Bulls record of 72-10.
Miami really need a sturdy defender at centre to win. I don't think Bosh could handle Howard for a series.

The Brewers aren’t an especially complete team — their pitching just gave up 36 runs to the Giants, which is something as amazing and unrepeatable as Dimaggio’s hitting streak — but they’re the kind of team that can give the Giants fits. The Brewers:
Have an offense that’s good enough to ding up good pitchers, and…
Have a pitching staff filled with pitchers who wear hats and throw with either their left or right arms — exactly the kind of pitchers who give the Giants trouble.

Ok, the thing I respect
He’s gotta take less cash, and he’s gonna play with guys that are reportedly friends. I respect that.
And it is very curious for an athlete, especially the best, to put himself in a position where no matter how successful this team is, he HAS to share the credit.
And if it doesn’t work, it will be baaaaaad.
The “best case” scenario isn’t all that great for the legacy of any of these guys, and the worst case is looking like an even bigger failure than simply not winning.
Of course, the media focus will be on how these guys—in their prime—pulled together and took less money to win titles. And I do respect that.
It sucks, though.

at the end of the day, if it all works out, they might have a bunch of rings. and if that’s really truly all they care about (just the winning not the accolades for how they won) then that’s sorta cool.

Not all over your body, obviously
But there’s different things they can do, and usually it’s taken from the back of your head.
Sometimes an entire strip of skin and hair is removed, your forehead pulled back, they take the follicles out and plant them where they should go. They then catch on and the roots stick and it’s growing hair forever.
Believe it or not, I watched the process on JON AND KATE PLUS 8. The ex used to watch it.

Even when I was still a Sonic fan, I liked Oden more than Kevin Durant.

Lebron should have a Mamma Mia
Fly out the hundreds of guys his mom slept with as a teen to Santorini, Greece, and make them sing and dance to figure out who his dad is.

Lebron said the midichlorians created him

Did you guys hear about how Lebron was saying he saw going to Miami to win a championship as a personal challenge?
What a load of crap! OH IT’S SO MUCH MORE CHALLENGING TO GO TO A TEAM WITH TWO OTHER ALL-STARS IN THEIR PRIME THAN IT IS TO MAKE YOUR OWN PERSONAL DESTINY PLAYING FOR THE TOWN THAT’S SUPPORTED YOU FOR YOUR WHOLE CAREER! I’m sure someone else has mentioned it. I hate Lebron James. He is a loser, loser.

it was really weak
as far as I’m concerned any championships he wins will be worth one third of the number that Jordan or Kobe or Timmy or Kareem or Russell have ever won

CLEVELAND (AP) – Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert says LeBron James “quit” during the playoffs and should be accountable for his actions.
In a phone interview with the AP, Gilbert says “people have covered up for (James) for way too long. Tonight we saw who he really is.”

good to hear it. I would have liked to see this when it happened to tell the truth. Obviously they were still trying to get him to stay
but it’s disgusting how coddled he’s been by that entire organization. For that reason alone it would have been sweet to see him go to a town like NY or Philly where fans don’t baby their stars.

TAKE THE GLOVES OFF GILBY!!!!!!!
he totally quit in this years playoffs, and the rest of the team followed. He showed his leadership ability right then and there.

I think when Lebron comes to play in cleveland next season
they are going to chain all of the doors and light the whole arena on fire. I think the fans would be willing to sacrifice themselves to get back at him for screwing over an entire town, heck an entire state, heck an entire generation of basketball fans.

it will be the only Heat game against a team not called the Blazers that I will watch next year
because I will relish in the fact that the teams won’t be able to function at all for how incredibly loud the boos will be every single time he has the ball in his hand. I hope it puts any noise we have made in the Rose Garden, any noise the Timbers Army makes, heck, any noise they make down in Autzen, to shame for how loud it will be.
