Pessimists Unite
Let's assume that at the end of the year we don't make the playoffs or we lose handily, again, in the first round. Does Nate get fired or do we 'rebuild' and keep him. And since we're being total downers, does Roy express desire to be moved or does he go down with the ship? Personally, so far Roy has exhibited nothing but positivity regarding this disorganization despite some of his closest friends being traded for questionable gain. This makes me think he will be like Alex English or Bernard of the Bullets and be one of those all time greats that played long term for teams destined to be tromped by the mega stars like Magic, Bird and MJ.

We won't miss the playoffs
But, if we’re one and done again in the playoffs I think Nate gets axed.

As for the Blazers...They are officially the NBA equivalent of a movie serial killer

my first thought as well
Given the extension, the Camby trade was an absolute steal, and Roy should know it.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
absolutely. Camby is a less than 50/50 gamble.
Why gamble away a decent back up PG (Blakey) not to mention your fire plug, a la vinnie johnson (albeit a low basketball IQ microwave, in Travis Outlaw) for a guy that’s NEVER played an entire NBA season due to injury. That’s “NEVER” guys. Look at what that means. You can never depend on a guy like that as your starting center unless you have a ridiculously talented back up center. Can anyone think of a very talented back up center that was part of a championship team? Yeah, me neither and that’s because that guy doesn’t exist. Therefore, championships are won with centers who are either reliable or teams that don’t depend on their centers (Bulls, Late 80s Lakers, 90s/00 Pistons). Sorry but Stacy King, Elden Campbell and The Buddha were non factors.

Camby won't be starting
He’ll be the ridiculously talented back up center.
This makes no sense? You seem like you want the blazers to fail.
I love how the “pessimists” say that after two years of being back in the playoffs with no championship, this team is an utter failure. “Last year was the last chance” they all say conveniently forgetting how decimated we were by injuries. Get a grip people it’s not the end, it’s just a little after the beginning. Most of our guys are in their low to mid twenties. There’s still life in them yet, and Broy still has a say in his destiny no matter what kind of comparison you make, or what kind if box you try to put him in.
I'm a Greg Oden honk, yeah.
Even when I was still a Sonic fan, I liked Oden more than Kevin Durant.

Seriously.
Of course I don’t ‘want’ the blazers to fail. But I am just predicting what I see as the beginning of the next drought in this town for blazer fans. Believe me, I was here for the entire 90s as a die hard fan.

no. It's more the culture
acquiring rookie/soph “stock” for that “big trade”. It’s like a gamble for a gamble, meanwhile getting rid of decent players who are developing and getting comfortable with their roles (jack, blake, webster, et al). That’s fine if you have Kobe, Wade, Pierce, Garnett, LBJ, etc. But we have Roy…and that’s it. And let’s face it, if he ends up having a career as good as Pierce (who in my opinion is the weakest of this group) he will go down as one of the greatest Blazers ever, and that’s not an easy task considering we had clyde, walton, (gulp) Steve Smith.

I'm pessimistic enough to say that McMillan gets fired next year by Paul the Meddler and the Seattle Simpletons even if he wins a championship...

Even though..
..it really wasn’t that long ago that Dave said it, it feels like a long time ago. I think the upcoming season is going to be a season of “No Excuses” and definition. Injury, coaching, and individual and team performance is all going to be evaluated this year. I don’t assume anything. Larry Miller easily states that the goal of Paul Allen and thus The Blazers is to bring a championship to Portland. I think falling out of playoff contention and/or another 1st round exit would result in significant change, but since we haven’t even started summer league for this year, I’m not speculating as to what that hypothetical change after a hypothetical outcome, may or may not be. I only imagine that failure at that level would mean almost everything would be in flux. Coaching and Players.
"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"
I don't see how we can win without KP
I totally remember that GM that won the title for that team. I do agree though, that this is Nate’s last chance, his job may depend on the health of the team. He should take classes at a medical school this summer.
Definitely agree re: Nate.
Although what he should be doing this summer is devising an offense that allows Andre to play to his strengths more, saved BRoy’s knees, and prepares to incorporate Oden. And also has rolls on the PnR plays.
Or a defense that doesn’t involve switching everything (although he has some neat gimmicky zones).
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
that sounds like good stuff.
And I would be impressed if he can do those things. I’m just excited for next year already!
Agree and I don't think Nate is that guy
He wasn’t an offensive minded player and so he’s not an offensive minded coach. Or so it seems. I hope he can prove me wrong.
