ouch

lets see, two years ago, we were confident in our GM and coach, we had the “best owner in sports,” Martell was gonna finally live up to his draft position, Greg was gonna prove the doubters wrong, LA was going to improve year to year, Broy was unstoppable, Rudy was going to be the next Ginobli, Sergio the next Nash…

Today?
GM: fired in the most embarrassing manner any of us could have imagined
Coach: under fire from management and fans, forced to “shake up the staff”
Owner: despised by local media, trashed in national media, fans question his legacy
Martell: fighting for 3rd string scraps in the frigid winters of Minnesota, good luck Marty
Oden: proving the doubters right (though he can still turn it around)
LA: plateaued (sorry LA, just sayin’)
Broy: stopped (to be fair, by his knee)
Rudy: currently worth less than the paper his contract is printed
Sergio: out of the league

…ah to be young

The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

Nicolas Batum

2 years ago? Looked like a lost puppy in summer league

Today? One of the most promising wings in the league.

It’s not all bad…just most of it

I can see it now...

Blazers change their marketing slogan to “Rise With Me.” All posters, billboards, etc will feature a solitary Nic Batum.

LOL, wow

Stike a nerve did he? I think he is pretty off base, as we havent even hit our stride yet. Not sure how he can say that we have failed. Guess it shows he doesnt know diddly.

IF Oden gets healthy, IF Roy stays healthy, IF Batum gets healthy

And IF one or two someone elses step up between Babbit and the picks, Bayless, Rudy who plays for whatever reason, Mills, or …

Then Blazers to WCF

And Bucher can ))%_) #+^ my *##$ %_# :)!

In KP I trusted!

LOL, He def did strike a nerve...his comments were'nt even that bad...lol,

…I am completely in the “it is too early to tell” stage with Oden…but it seems that some people are in the denial stage…

…that we may have married Rosanne Barr (Oden), when Angelina Jolie (Durant) was asking for our hand in marriage, lol,

….no body knows, lol, but we all gotta admit, no one in the Blazers war room wouldn’t trade Oden for Durant right now…

…and I’m in the camp, it’s too early to tell, here’s to hoping Oden stays healthy!!

For a dude that talented, that’s all it will take

I really don't think he's crazy though

strikes a nerve, sure, but think back 2 years ago where we thought we’d be now. we’re pretty far off from a championship right now…in my opinion

That hurts a little bit. Probably cuz it's true.

"What people need to know is that those pictures were taken a year and a half ago, and I've grown since then." - Greg Oden

The only talk of championship titles was by the deluded few who thought we were anywhere near one.

Don’t judge just by the outliers.

Disagree...Oden was the wildcard...

….if he met expectations (shockingly, some draft picks do!), then we would have been right there, right there in the championship talk…

…I recall the fact that we lost to the Rockets two years ago, who then proceeded to take the Lakers to 7 games…

…and I just kept thinking…“Seriously, if we have Durant in this series we win…”….

….additionally, Oden wasn’t terrible, but he def was still performing below draft expectations at that point…

…when Oden was drafted, it wasn’t “delusion” to say that we would be competing for a ring in Oden’s 2nd year…not probable, but not delusional….if Oden panned out better than he did in his first 2-3 years.

by irish3 on Jul 6, 2010 10:48 PM PDT up reply actions

I just kept thinking…"Seriously, if we have Durant in this series we win

About a year ago Miller was signed and we learned that the Blazers were talking to Philly about ’Dre at the ’09 (RLEC) deadline

Put Andre in the starting lineup against the Rockets (etc) in 4/09 and the Blazers would likely have advanced, and KP may still have his job.

You can’t turn back the clock. But after the Camby extension I think the roster is stronger than ever. They just need health and a couple of semi-boring veteran backups at the wing and PG and they could be the talk of the NBA, again. Unfortunately, the team as currently constructed may be (partially) overhauled before they even have a chance to all play together.

Such are unmet expectations

When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

Again. Only the romantics believed that Oden was our key to mansion.

Were any non ultra homer fans predicting a title in either 08-09 or 09-10?

I don’t think anyone outside of crazy optimistic Blazer fans was saying title run this soon.

And so it goes.

I never bought into multiple titles two years ago. So, some of this is a little meaningless. Most of us were hoping to get to the playoffs and to advance one step further. Granted, we had solid hopes for Oden, but Webster was a question mark. For good reason. Sergio was never considered to be the second coming – other than by a few. Rudy was expected to play better this year than last – and didn’t. However, less some of the injuries – and the Blazers would’ ve finished higher and advanced further. About what we expected. Injuries are always a wild card. Take Kobe off the Lakers during the playoffs – and they don’t win the Title. Take Yao off Houston – and they step backward. Take Garnett off Boston – as happened last year – and they don’t have a chance at the title – as they proved. And so it goes.

I defenitely heard talk of a dynasty a few years back...

a group of fans definitely took Oden’s “ten title’s” promise literally.
