CP3 + McMillan = ?
I was all for CP3 in a Blazer uniform until i thought of the clash "Dre had with coach. Would coach McControl let CP do his thing or would we see a harnessed player begging to leave the system ? Miller let it be known he had never been subjected to such a tight ballcontrol type offense before. I keep seeing coach waving his arm yelling go go go but what we hear from the players is no no no. Anyone else having nightmares about that?

well at least this one takes a different tack
and I agree with his point, although in terms of NBA pecking order Nate would have to concede much more to CP3 out of the gate than he ever felt he had to concede to Miller.
Besides if the key assistant Nate is going after is Bickerstaff something tells me Nate is looking for a more aggressive offensive scheme.

Maybe I can do another one where I compare and contrast CP3 and Nate as values in a quadratic equation!
That way you can improve your math skills while you shake in your sleep.

no can do
you want a cp3 when you need a b2, 4ac and 2a. No quadradic equation likes it when they have to play with letters they don’t recognize, like a p3.
I believe i just factored chris paul out of the blazers equation.
too much math.
Miller and Nate clashed from the begining because Nate knows basketball.....Nate knows his team.....Nate also knew that Miller was a HORRIBLE PICKUP FOR PORTLAND BECAUSE OF HIS HORRIBLE SHOOTING AND HORRIBLE DEFENSE.
The pick up of Andre Miller was a Hail Mary from KP because his first two options of Hedo and Millsapp went right down the toilet and Portland had cap space and did not want to be left out as far FA went last year.
CP3 and Andre Miller are so diffrent it’s comical. While Miller struggled to get his offense going in the playoffs because of it’s half court grind it out every possession means something…..Grant Hill who has clearly lost a step on the defensive end simply made Miller shoot mid range brick after brick and made him look really bad in games 2-6.
With Cp3 running the team he would be perfect because he has a nice jumper plus he is consistently in the lane causing havoc for defenses. If Portland was able to make a move for Paul you will see Odens game grow by leaps and bounds because Paul makes the game easier for his teammates.
With Paul on this Blazer team they are the favorites to come out of the West. If it cost’s LA or Batum…..so freaking what….you are getting a superstar to team with Oden and Roy!

when the other team puts their
best defender, who happens to be a SF on your PG it says something.
Lunacy. Miller was a STUD all season, ESPECIALLY in the playoffs.

Revise history, much?
we’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of the “dinner with Andre” and it would be good if you and others) checked the archives for the stories about that meeting. KP didn’t have to do much convincing, it was mostly Andre and Nate talking shop about the Blazer’s offense and what Miller could do to get all of the players easier baskets.
Now, what Nate didn’t tell Andre at the time was that those teammates weren’t going to being the starting lineup. But all of that got hashed out in January when the coach and veteran PG yelled at each other for awhile, and their relationship was professional (and the team had one of the best W-L records in the league) during the 2nd half of the season
I really don’t know where all of this Miller-hate is coming from; Andre was voted the team’s MVP by the O-live fans immediately following the season. Maybe it’s because he’s old and everyone thinks he needs to be replaced ASAP with a younger PGoTF? Maybe it’s because we keep hearing CP3 rumors and Andre’s critics are coming out of the woodwork now and they feel like running him down will somehow make the Paul deal happen sooner? Maybe it’s just pent-up KP emo, finding another target to lash out at because Paul Allen isn’t in the news anymore?
Whatever it is, it’s dead wrong. Miller, Roy and McMillian were just fine at the end of the last year. If Roy hadn’t hurt his knee right before the playoffs, the Blazer backcourt would’ve looked much more impressive against the Suns, and there would be less angst about “major changes” needing to be made. An injury to Brandon (that Miller had nothing to do with) is causing a large number of fans to dismiss Dre’s solid body of work that he provided to the team from Nov-April. It’s a mob mentality that’s completely mindless, IMO
Grant Hill who has clearly lost a step on the defensive end simply made Miller shoot mid range brick after brick and made him look really bad in games 2-6.
Your short-term memory is fuzzy, as well. Yes, Miller was defended by Hill but he was also doubled whenever he put the ball on the floor—because Phoenix knew that Roy and Rudy weren’t going to be much of a threat. Gentry geared his defense towards stopping Andre after game 1 and it paid off—props to Phoenix—but no direct blame should be leveled at ‘Dre when his teammates obviously weren’t able to step up, because they were either hurt, ineffective or outcoached

Nate’s vision for Dre
All that happened before KP made the move, in fact I think it was at the height of the pumping up the Milsap offer.
The Milsap offer was never realistic, everyone and I mean everyone new Utah would match.
I am not saying Paul is not a better player or anything, but to pretend Miller was some desperation move is just rewriting the history books.

unfortuanately that can never happen again
because Martel was traded
Webberang!!!
The next Steve Blake, only bigger and with better defense!
Seriously though, if we can somehow get a trade exception in the CP3 trade, I hope it’s big enough to bring Marty back. Maybe that was the plan with Minny all along?
Ok, now I’m just being delusional. Time for sleep.
If we had CP3, and the Sarge started to clash with him I think he would probably be told to get along or get fired.

yeah. It would be like getting LeBron and then Sarge clashing with him. The argument/blow up would have been a little different. For example:
Nate: “you dont play the way we play!!”
Lebron or CP3: “lolz”
GM to be named later: “Nate, your fired”
I would love to see how this team would do with someone like D'antoni.
We’d probably be better than the suns last year. Si or no?

its kinda funny that this could even be a concern.
I wonder if there are any Miami fans worrying about whether or not Bosh, Wade, and Lebron will be able to play together.

if Nate doesn't get along with Paul then we know who needs to leave.
If we got CP3 and we still can’t get past the 1st round again, we know exactly who needs to bounce Portland. And that would be, yes, you Mr. McMillan. This year is a testing year for him anyways, as long as everyone stays healthy, not getting out of first year would sting a little bit more, especially the 3rd year in a row. This increases exponentially if we added arguably the best PG in the league and the problems continue. That means its time for a new offense.

Nate would love CP3, I am sure.
Scrappy worker who plays well in the halfcourt.
Likes to run but pulls off and executes the halfcourt if their isn’t an easy basket.
Will police players who don’t get in position, don’t execute.

i would think
nate would prefer a deron or rondo

deron would be cool
and I like Rondo well enough…
I can’t really pick between CP3 and Deron in terms of a preference.
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
Let me help you...
CP3’s last 3 seasons were stuff of legend. 20 points, over 10 assists, over 2 steal, around 5 rebounds, FTs over 80% and FG near 50%. I would trade Roy and Oden to get him here and it’s not happening.
slimkim
Deron Williams
Assists are better or the same the last 3 seasons and his PPG is 2 or 3 less than Paul. Deron also played in many more games the past 3 years as well. I get the 20 – 10 thing is cool, but 18 – 10 is not that far off. Paul’ FG% is better though so I suppose I would lean toward CP3 in the end, but Deron is less injury prone.
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
They've actually played in about the same number of games
But the difference is that Williams goes out for a few games with rolled ankle or back spasms. CP3 goes out for long stretches and has to get surgery. That’s an oversimplification, but you get my point.
I’d go with Deron, for one reason: who was the last guy CP3’s size who performed at a truly elite level well into his 30’s? If you plan on locking a PG up for a long time, go with a big guy. Now, there are the Steve Nashes, who are smallish (even though he’s about 6-3, he’s not as heavy set as the really durable guys) yet only get better as they age, but how long will Paul last? The guys have long careers and are still productive as they get older are the big ones: Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, and our own Andre Miller. Size is a decided advantage for a PG once they lose speed.
If I wanted a team with the best players, right now, I’d go for Paul. If I wanted a PG to build a team around, I’d go with Deron. But with our current roster, I’d take either of them if they were available to us, and a deal with NO seems a lot more likely than a deal with SLC.
fair enough
Deron has him by 20 games over the last three seasons. That is 13% of the games they could have played. that is a pretty big difference

But we are talking about Nate's preference, not ours.

><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
true
but I think Nate would be happy with either as would I.
Deron is even less likely than Paul. So as unlikely as pickin up Paul would be it is even more difficult imagining us having a shot at Deron.
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
cp3 is better
but it hink deron’s style is more conducive to our team.

I don't.
Rondo can’t shoot = Nate hates him.
Deron does a lot of things, but defense isn’t Nate’s thing.
He’s never been big on defense, but he has always been huge on efficiency. Look at his results.
Efficiency is CP3s specialty.

Quit talking about CP3 in Portland...
It’s getting sad. We all know that we don’t get studs in their prime in this city. We need to cultivate one and have the ‘luck’ to keep them in the city. When CP3 decided to enter into free agency I can guaran freakin tee (remember the cajun chef?) you that our mighty yet humble city was not on his top 5 much less top 3 places he’s like to be. HES NOT COMING HERE PEOPLE. SANTA DOESNT EXIST AND NEITHER DOES A MAX PLAYER FA THAT WANTS TO PLAY FOR PAUL ALLEN’S ORGANIZATION.

have some faith in our organization. why wouldn’t he want to come here? PG on a 50 win team with nothing but a bright future ahead. the only other place I could see him wanting to go is NY or NJ if they get LeBron. Other than that why not come and take a chance with Brandon, Greg, and LMA in da city of Rose’s.
