Who Dat, Mike Rice?
In lieu of all this off-season fiasco business, I figured we could start looking towards the future. It is accepted that name slips are common between two similar names. However, our beloved court-side analyst, Mike Rice, seems to mix and match names on a whole new level. It is inevitable for him to screw up names throughout the season. We've heard of Lamar Aldridge, LaMarcus Odom, Greg Odom, Lamar Oden. And should Armon Johnson make the roster, it is only a matter of time before Mike Rice calls him Amir Johnson or calls Amir Johnson Armon Johnson.

Best poll of the offseason so far.
Like the Whos down in Whoville they did it without boxes or ribbons or bows, they did without centers or posting down low. They won without All-Stars and Spaniards and Frenchmen. They won with old geezers and sub-par defense-men. They won playing rookies from deep off the benches. They won with their grit and their guts in the trenches. And some who observed them have been known to say that their hearts grew three sizes (at least!) on the way. One hopes with their poise and their passion now proven that once they are healthy their game will be groovin'.

It's 100% Dave.
I didn’t even run a .sig before and the moment I read it I was like… done and done.

There is no option for the next "Courtside" show.
That’s my guess. At the latest it will be during summer league.

Mike Barrett "Do you mean Armon Johnson?"
Rice “him, too”

they really need to put "antibuse" use in his contract.
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out, burns out farms, and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
Head Czar of Amerika <--- Mortimer said so so there!!!
Not even Rice can do something first multiple times
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
he can do that.

"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

also, where’s " First time ever pronounced"?
Portland could coast along with their superior talent and stay right with us. Now that Portland woke up, the hammer cometh down.

Nice.
Another question. Mike Rice or just the steady drone of vuvuzelas during Blazers games?
I would love to read someone review all NBA local broadcasters. I’ve read such a thing for MLB. Barrett is okay-ish, but Rice is beyond horrible. And to think we used to have Schonz and the Snapper

you got to listen to a Duck baseball game with Joe Gisante sometime....
he takes the cake?
“and he slides into second with a stand up double”
“his only hit was earlier on a fielders choice”
my favorite baseball radio blooper
Swung on and belted, Jones is going back, back, back! He leaps at the wall and…Oh! He hit his head real hard…then he picks it up and throws it towards second base!

Mike Rice is awesome.
I love how other teams fans get annoyed at him.
"[S]ince men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to pursue many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers, and that was that first yoke they placed upon themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of evils the prepared for their descendants. For, besides continuing thus to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit, and as they had at the same time degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet; and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to have them." -Jean-Jacques Rousseau

I miss Schonz, but not the Snapper
Steve’s tired old cliches and “straight down the middle” droning grew tiresome after a few years, and yet he lingered, and lingered, and lingered on some more
OTOH, Bill’s game calls and enthusiasm never got stale—Harry the Hutt pulled the plug on Schonley’s radio career far too early. It was so refreshing to hear the Schonz do the PBP again last fall at the MC. I think Brian Wheeler tries too hard to manufacture in-game hype, and the fans need a change of pace once in awhile. Wheels should take about 20 home games off per season and let Bill slide back in behind the mic, so the younger generation can hear the voice of a legend at his craft

i never got a chance to listen to bill, except through the yearbook videos of the early ’90s
i liked the snapper when he called the tv side with pete pranica in the late ’90s and early ’00

you missed some golden moments
hopefully you can go back and watch some of those 1990-1992 playoff games (not the finals, too depressing) But the series against the Spurs and Suns in ’90 and the Jazz in ’92 were classics. I hope that all the young Blazer fans get to see some similar action starting next April, and start building their own set of playoff memories

i watched game 7 of the spurs series on youtube, but that had the national announcers as well

Dang, I had almost forgotten my distaste for the Snapper.
Used to love Schonz until I had dinner with him at a fundraiser, pffft. We had to keep an empty chair next to him for his attitude, ego, sense of, well you get the idea.
yeah, Bill uses the royal "we" liberally
but there are few people more beloved in this state, so I can put up with his hubris from afar
I’ve been enjoying his weekly chats with Canzano, even though it’s clear that the Schonz has no idea what kind of player additions the Blazers currently need for their roster

unfortunately...
due to his natural increase in age (these things happen over time), his play by play is usually a good four seconds behind the action, which could create confusion among viewers who are not deaf or blind

So….you’re assuming that he’s not confused right now,
but will get confuseled at some point in the future.
Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."
He'll call him Armon Hammer
Then he’ll talk about how his stomach disagrees with him because he ate a pre-game kielbasa dog.
Treat people well because Karma can hit you at any second.
This is, of course, assuming Armon Johnson ever gets played...
"Rudy is not everyday a shooter," Fernandez said. "He's defense. He's passes. He's assists."
hence the last line of the post...
