only if it states in his contract that he must clothesline kobe every game he plays against him
or else we don’t need to pay him.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.
I'd be cool with him. I'm pretty intrigued by Matthews though.
"What people need to know is that those pictures were taken a year and a half ago, and I've grown since then." - Greg Oden

How many 34 year olds does this team need?
He may still be able to shoot, but not sure he is the same defender he once was.
I don't want to see that happen to any player.
Any.

i feel sorry for
the basketball. you know it must have taken a lot of g-force.
Treat people well because Karma can hit you at any second.
you drive on us, you pay
this is the NBA playoffs. For men only
The Blazers could use a little nasty. Juwan Howard can’t do it all by himself
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
Greg could provide a little of that
and (unless we trade him) Joel should be back for the playoffs
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Greg is like Dwight Howard.
When you are that big, your normal movements have knock out power.
In Bayless I trust.

yeah, little guards just run into Oden and fall down
like they hit the basket stanchion
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I still remember when Ray Allen acted like Oden hurled him into the stands
when he barely did anything.
that clip alone makes up for the crappy offseason so far
and dpnim- great job with the pic better than all the paintshop jobs people try to throw out here
i know i thought portland would get lebron wade and bosh
and all we got was a few guys in the draft. we havent even signed anyone a few days before anyone can sign… crappy

Well
would you describe it as ‘good’?
If yes, you are setting the bar awfully, awfully low.
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
I wouldnt say good, but i wouldnt say crappy
kp gone-crappy, but everyone knew this would happen during last season so not shocking
martell gone-awesome(over rated by local fans, nate valued him over batum holding batum back, if you hate rudy you should really really hate webster)
3 rookies- not good-/not bad we will see
no FA signings- YOU CANT SIGN FA’S YET.
Its way too early to call the offseason crappy, no one was traded to another team for nothing we didnt sign someone like darko to a crazy contract(if he hulked his jersey every game he would be a max contract player) its not a good or bad offseason yet.

I disagree with that Webster point.
I think Batum was held back primarily by his shoulder injury. Nate soon started Batum over Webster once he proved how good and how healthy he was. Batum played more minutes than Webster once he came back from injury since Batum had more minutes per game (24.8, which is over half the game, plus Webster’s minutes per game include the time without Batum).
In addition, people hate Rudy because of his complaints with the Spanish media and the fact that he regressed. Webster also outplayed Rudy for the most part and played hard almost every night.
Even if Webster would be overpaid as a backup next season, I can’t see why it’s awesome that a good backup is gone.
so you hate rudy because he complains?
maybe i can see some links, but batum did the same thing with the french media, probably more he complained that nate sticks him in the corner and has him do “the portland” and no one hates batum. what exactly did rudy saythat was so bad?

I don't hate Rudy because he complains.
As for links, I’m having a hard time finding them. Does Blazersedge have a search function? Here’s an example of fan hatred from a Portland interview though:
http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/4/30/1452879/rudy-fernandez-artfully-dodges
He mainly says things about not being sure where he’ll be playing next season despite having a contract in Portland, wanting to play for the Knicks, being open to returning to Spain, and being unhappy with his role.
None of the stuff he says is that bad by itself, but there’s a lot of spin from the Spanish media that makes it quite annoying.
so he is blaimed for spanish media spin?
not being sure where he’ll be playing next season despite having a contract in Portland- did you log in on here or wath espn any time after the playoffs and before the draft? every day there was a trade rudy article, evenespn was talking about people interested in rudy of course he doesnt know where he is playing when everyone says hes on the trading block.
“It doesn’t matter what I want. The possibility is to trade me, or the possibility [for me] leaving is for Portland to decide.”
" I have a contract here and I stay happy with the fans, with the city, I love the teammates."- sounds like he hates portland(sarcasm)
wanting to play for the knicks- I read the whole thing and dont see that
open to returning to spain- " the possibility [for me] leaving is for Portland to decide." -sounds like if portland wants him he is there, if portland wants him to go back to spain he will do what ever they want.
unhappy with his role.- he played 2 min less a game, only 62 games “sometimes I was a little upset about my role but I think it’s normal. Coach is a great coach, it’s a great year for all the injuries on the team. For sure, you can ask every one of my teammates, for sure they want to play more. But we have 12 players and we can only play 5.” how crappy a guy that wants to get off the bench and go help his team.
" A little play more, play with confidence. I think that’s what I want" oh so he doesnt only want to play more but he wants to play with more confidence another bad thing im starting to hate him
“Do you plan to ask the Blazers for a trade?” “No”-cry baby
first comment “Forget Rudy Let’s clear up some cap space and let him go. If he wants to go, why not let him.”
why is it when i ask about stuff rudy says no one can ever find any real links?
its not only the spanish media spin its the local fans and blazersedge, some of it can be blamed on language barrier "Here’s a transcript of most of Rudy’s comments in their entirety. It’s as exact as possible. There are a few sections that get choppy because of the language barrier. " but also things like the title of the linked article "Rudy Fernandez Artfully Dodges Questions About His Future " are spin

It's the combination
Rudy complained and regressed. When he complained I vehemently defended him, but he blew his chance to prove something. Batum still has a lot to fulfill the fan’s image of him, but at least when his feet hit the hardtop he gave it all. I guess, like Nate, I put high value on effort. Martell was always working. I respect that.

he was injured last year
if you dont like his character then i guess thats a reason not to like him, if you dont like his blazersedge image then people should probably reevaluate. thats like making an opinion on miller based on what tominhawaii says about him.
I think peoples biggest problem was in the playoffs when rudy didnt become the #1 guy with roy out. its not really fair to ask a guy to not dribble not drive not do anything but stand at the 3 point line to open the lane for roy for 2 years then say okay now you need to be roy.
I seen martell working hard on his 29% 3 point shooting and 55% ft shooting in the playoffs

the main reason to be happy Webster is gone
is that it gets us far enough under the luxury tax to sign somebody to BAE or MLE.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
SPAM?
I think if Paul Allen is in win-now mode like people are saying, he’ll spend again into the luxury tax. Maybe that’s a bad assumption because he has changed, but that’s what I’ve always assumed.
I do agree that Webster’s contract is the main reason to be happy Webster is gone. However, that’s not the reason pipgras gave.
not really
they’ll still exceed the luxury tax threshold if they use the MLE
but if Webster was still on the roster, they wouldn’t be pursuing FAs like Matthews or Mason
Martell was a WARP casualty. He barely produced enough to justify his salary, and he was an inconsistent shooter when his minutes were reduced (after Batum returned) A healthy Nic requires 30-35 mpg, and at 15-18 mpg Marty is no longer cost-effective, that’s probably why he was flipped. The Blazers tried to do him a favor and move him to a place where he could play more, but David Kahn seems to be stockpiling SFs so Webster will have a battle on his hands to see the floor in a Wolve’s uniform.
Assuming Rudy is traded, the team needs a veteran wing who can backup both Roy and Batum for 25-30 mpg. They’re currently pursuing Matthews and Mason, which makes sense. Still, I’d prefer they take a hard look at Raja Bell, who might play fewer minutes during the regular season but have a bigger impact in the playoffs, as a take-no-prisoners perimeter defender and 3-pt sniper
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
Batum had more minutes per game (24.8, which is over half the game…)
That’s at least 6 mpg fewer than Nic should’ve received, unless his shoulder was hurting. I remember long stretches of games last spring where the Blazers were playing like meh and I was saying to the computer (or in the BE game thread) “Where’s Batum?”
I don’t want to have to do that again, next year
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I know many people who consider this offseason crappy...
…because we have no GM. It’s not only that Pritchard was a popular GM. The Blazers have no GM to replace him yet.
yeah.... no
what an ugly combination
