So I think we may be in the same boat right now ,AK. i’m having trouble focusing on the screen, and I gotta get up for the world cup match in a few hours. I saw some fun ideas about CP3 in the last JD. That would be pretty dang amazing if we made that three team deal with Chicago. I would do a happy dance in the middle of the street

Mhm, mostly Oezil as the central midfielder and Schweinsteiger/Khedira behind him to form the backbone. Podolski (left) and Mueller (right) are the scorers over the wing. Klose is out with an infection I think. Friedrich played very well on defense against England taking Rooney out of the game. Don’t know how they plan to stop Messi, the on-field lineup looks just the same. One side story could be yellow cards, since a lot of players are warned and would miss the semi-final.

They pretty much only switched out the left defensive tackle after the first game, and Klose for one game when he had the red card.
On Wednesday I would probably watch in a bar or public space, but today I'm too tired. And last time was no good luck.
This goal definitely makes the game more interesting since I feared both teams would play very cautiously initially. But Germany wants none of that, and now Argentina has to react fast.

Yeah, two yellows = red in one game is a good rule, but cards carrying over is a rule they might want to revise one day.
Probably want to prevent that you get free reign for one hard foul per game though. It has its pros and cons.
I think five is too many for such a short competition
3 accumulated yellows or a direct red should make you miss the next game, but it’s too easy to get 2 yellows throughout the tourney.

This whole thing is dumb.
We aren’t getting Iguodala or CP3. The front office needs to focus on players that aren’t Chris Paul, best point guard of his generation.
It's also asinine to discuss a trade for Chris Paul that doesn't include Roy, Aldridge, or Oden.
Why would New Orleans ever do that? If we trade all our role players and get the best point guard, we would be a pretty killer team. The problem is that teams don’t trade guys who put up 30+ PERs.
I am just fed up.
The organization clearly wants to make some changes. Make them already. I’m tired of the rumor and innuendo around deals that don’t happen; we’ve seen “reports” about big deals for the last 2+ seasons now.

i’m not up too much on women’s tennis history. i do know those were two of the greats, with Chris Evert, i think. but not sure about titles or anything like that. Serena has to be getting close though right?

I don’t know how the competition they faced compares. Serena has a crazy 13-3 record in slam finals, Navratilova and Evert were barely over .500, but that means they got to a ton of finals.

I also bet we are MAJOR players at the trade deadline with Melo and Chris Paul potentially available. Expiring contracts of Joel and Andre, young cheap talent in Batum, Rudy, and Bayless, throw in LMA…we have pieces to work with here.

I’m not saying we would get him, just that we would have our shot.
I think if we can't get CP3 now, we just walk away. The seeds of discontent have been planted, and he knows we want him.
Hopefully they struggle (sorry Monty) and by the trade deadline cp3 is sulking and demanding they trade him to us so he can be on a team of winners. Maybe we can get him for less (see no Batum)

I agree--it was fun to watch
the way Germany totally neutered Argentina between the first and second goals was amazing. They didn’t get lulled to sleep by Argentina’s midfield passing and always had enough bodies between the ball and the goal. Then took their chances with real class.

It’s not as effective as some OTC medication, but at least it helps somewhat and doesn’t make you so tired. I plan on taking some when I go to the sea next weekend.

Dramamine was the only one I knew for years, and then I discovered Bonine which works much better and doesn’t make me as drowsy. But I hate taking pills (it’s a silly principle of mine where I don’t like the possibility of building a dependence on anything like that) so I may have to go the ginger route from now on.

When I first moved up here, I would get off the bus at Freddies and had to cross through all of that to get to the place I was staying in Hazel Dell. There was a ratty bar and a mostly empty parking lot.They didn’t even have a crosswalk at the 5 onramp/offramps. You probably will barely recognize it.

I know the 99/78th and the 99/99th intersections, but I haven’t crossed under the bridge to the Hazel Dell Ave side in forever. I was so surprised when you were talking about Petsmart, 5 guys, and BWW in that area. Last time I remember, there was just the still-open (but no longer popular) Hollywood Video… the same place that used to have a full parking lot and 15 person lines on Friday nights.
I've seen lots of development happening throughout the Couve over the past 10 years.

the rule is very confusing. Clearly, a player in that position is impacting the attack even if he doesn’t touch the ball. Unfortunately, it is mucky and leaves too much to the discretion of the ref. And the modern trend is def. to wait ’til the guy touches it.

to see how old he was. I can’t believe he’s only 25 ,I always thought he was kind of an older player. Still, 21 and potential>>>25 year old known (and not phenomenal entity).

This game didn’t make me like Spain very much. Pique whined after being called for that blatant foul, then Villa drew a pk on a terrible dive, and Paraguay arguably should have had a goal in the first half.
I do want our Spanish friends to be happy though, but Germany has Norsktroll on its side plus they’ve been so fun to watch!
I don’t know what to do!!
So at least Spain could be an underdog, which is the easy one to root for.
But I like how Germany looks like a video game, the way passes go right to a person.

Spain are #2 in the world and defending European champions. Germany playing this well is a big surprise to almost everyone.
Spain has beaten Germany in the last Euro championship finals
They look eye to eye. Though Germany as made the team much younger and harder to plan for since then.

I actually used to spell some words Britishy as a habit because I played a game back in high school that was text based, and was run out of Europe.
They used Britishy spelling, not American spelling, so you had to type things Britishy to be “correct”.

Deng wouldn’t be an awful move. He’s solid defensively, has rated very well playing the 4 in small ball, and has a cool name. I dislike his contract and injury history, as well as his inability to shoot the three at a good rate.

No, but it could have priced us out of the Iggy market.
If a bunch of teams were willing to pay Gay tons of money then I assume the same teams wouldn’t mind taking on Iggy’s contract, which I was a concern before.
It’s not like the Blazers would be the only team willing to take on that big contract. The Warriors, Kings, Nets, etc, could all probably outbid us if Iggy really is available.

Some of the most incompetent front offices in the league signed off on these bad deals. Iggy is definitely overpaid.

I certainly agree that the chances are very low, but like I say: there’s too much speculation from respected sources for me to believe the chances are nil. I think you have to do your due diligence in a situation like this.
Iggy makes us better, but Paul maybe makes us the team to beat.
If we don't give up Aldridge, Oden, or Roy, we are likely the team to beat.
Adding the best point guard in the game to a roster with two good bigs and Roy… that’s killer. Paul likely makes LMA a 20 PER guy.

Adam Dunn just hit a single to the left side against the shift. wide open on that side of the field. the shift makes me mad. there should be no reason for it. cause if a major league hitter facing a shift can’t get a bunt down to that side for a hit, it’s a sad sad thing.

in some situations, I agree with forcing a slugger do something he’s not comfortable doing, where the maximum benefit is a single. If Dunn shows he’s willing and able to do that consistently, then you adjust.
it seems to me that if you can show you can consistently beat the shift that way, they’ll stop doing it, which means you can possibly get more hits with your usual tendency of pulling the ball.

the only time i would have him bunt is when they have a shift on and the whole left side is undefended. all the ball has to do is get past the pitcher and he’s on 1st.

I don’t wanna trade Roy, but I’d have to say that Roy + Paul isn’t as good as Paul + Oden. That inside/perimeter dominance is better than two very good perimeter players, I say.
Speaking as unemotionally as I can about that scenario, I guess, since Paul >> Roy by a good amount. And I think they’d be great together but not as great as Paul would be with a dunking massive big like Oden.

I'll try to not be so rambly, but it is complicated, ya know?
Let’s say I was in charge— in theory I’d know more about both Roy and Oden’s injury concerns. Talking with the various doctors and stuff, whose situation is worse going forward? Is Oden’s truly fluky? Is Roy’s issues more manageable than Odie’s?
If, say, Oden was likely (for whatever reason) to keep having issues, he’d be the one to trade. If Roy was always going to have issues, and Paul prolly isn’t, then he’s the one to trade.
But since those are variables we will never know, I’ll pretend both don’t exist— Roy and Oden will be healthy going forward, except for normal nicks and dings.
It would be one of the most difficult trades ever and one that I don’t think NOLA would want if savings was the priority, but I would trade Roy before I trade a healthy Oden. I think a healthy Oden matters more to winning titles, but a healthy Roy is MORE than great enough to be the A-2 star along with A-1 Oden to win titles… Roy would be the guy getting the final shot, and Oden the one getting efficient buckets all game and manning the middle.
That sort of two man leadership would still exist with Paul in Roy’s place, and Paul is better than Roy.
I wouldn’t want to trade Roy for Paul of course, I love Roy, but Paul IS a better player.

I agree. You have to make that trade if it comes down to that, but obviously the other versions are better.
Okafor played 82 games in each of the last 3 seasons. And he can ably play both big man positions on both ends when surrounded by solid players.
His contract is yuck, but we are over the cap anyway and that is a low risk option. He wouldn’t dominate games, but neither do players like Z or Perk or what San Antonio had paired up with Duncan. They are just very solid players.

I am pretty relieved with what OKC did.
They traded cap space in the biggest FA class we’ve seen for Cole Aldrich. Ok, I guess. But would we have been happy if we had worked to get cap space and spent it on Joel?
I think it proves that OKC doesn’t have the money to really spend big.

yeah, Utah will still be very good the next couple years, but OKC will pass them soon and if Cousins is what I think he is, Sacramento might not be far behind.
Still not sure where we fit in to the whole picture. So many question marks.
For all our question marks and uncertainty, at least those teams have questions too.
OKC is pretty much done with their cap space and improving, and Sacramento needs stuff to go right to further improve their standing. They might be stuck in good-but-not-near-great land… though we’re there right now as well.

His form looks better from the three-point line than it does from 5 feet.

I think a "soft touch" is one of those MOSTLY inherent qualities
People can always improve, but if they got a lead touch they can only improve so much.
Howard can make the line drive hook, but he can’t lay it up soft or put it up around the rim and let it bounce in. It might be he’s too strong, but I think he just doesn’t have the hand-control (dunno what to call it) to have a “soft” touch.
He has good hands and can catch passes well, so it’s not like a Joel Przybilla type problem.
His lack of good court vision limits him as well, plus his God-awful FT shooting. He is the best center playing right now, but not the most skilled by a long shot, and I would worry about his game once his athleticism fades.
Shaq was a dominant scorer who also had a bad touch and God-awful FT percentage, but he was a great passer and also just much BIGGER than Howard, so he was still quite good after he couldn’t jump out of the gym any longer. I don’t know if Howard will age as nicely as Shaq did.
I can’t think of anyone who had a lead touch who developed it into a nice soft one, so I think it might be a “born with it” thing.

I think the problem.
Is that he doesn’t have post moves or the ability to put himself in good position. I understand he’s going to practice some with Hakeem. Couldn’t find a better role model. But Hakeem, as raw as he started out, still had a nicer “soft touch” than Howard. Howard may never be more than he is right now.

to me Howard seems like a guy that was always bigger/faster/stronger and just got by on pure athleticism so he became a gym rat and worked on his body but never anything beyond basic basketball. meaning he never put in a lot of time on advanced footwork drills or anything like that. he’s basically coasting, it seems to me. Lebron isn’t much different, really.

Probably why I’ve developed a dislike for the guy. Howard could be more than he is with what he has. Lebron is ridiculously amazing and seems to understand the passing game better than most of his ilk start out doing. yeah. the scariest thing about lebron is how much better than the league he is even just coasting. and sometimes you can see him really turn it on and it’s just insane. the thing with lebron, though, is he’s already so good at most everything, all he really needs to do is keep shooting and get a consistent stroke and then get a post up game a la MJ/Kobe. beyond that though, what else does he really need to work on? he can get better, but not much. at least, physically.
Howard could get better, but he doesn’t even seem like he wants to. i think lebron does and will when he decides to.

Lebrons biggest weakness is his inbetween game.
His shot needs work, and there is no excuse for him not having as good a post game as even Melo does. But the thing that separates him from greatness is that his dominance doesn’t lend itself to very much help from teammates. I think either his game or his teammates game will be adversely impacted if they both need the ball to be effective or if has to share the lane with them. I think he has shown flashes of being great off-the-ball (especially in the Olympics and such), but the guy doesn’t try to develop his midrangepullup game. It’s like he think it’s too easy to just drive all the way in so he doesn’t work on strengthening something fluid in his inbetween game. And so all you see him do is chuck it from deep or drive all the way. You see Kobe do that too but Kobe’s main offensive attack is the dribble to his spot get a bit of space and knock down the bunny. Like Brandon. James would be entirely unstoppable if he had that in his game and is beatable (even if not simply) no matter what team he is on until he develops it.

yes, but remember that Kobe wasn’t always the way he is now. he used to be just like Lebron and then developed a mid range game. also, if you can get to the rack every time, then do it. also, i disagree about what separates him from greatness. firstly because i think he’s already there, but secondly because he does work with his teammates really well. this is the guy that at times was criticized for passing up shots to give more open teammates the chance. as far as off the ball, who has he played with that could get him the ball in good spots? he’s always been the best distributor on his team as well as the best scorer. so his game can absorb an off ball style of play and he will still be great, but he’s got to have some good teammates for that to happen. i firmly believe that with a better supporting cast, Lebron would have at least 2 rings already.

By not playing well with teammates, I really mean two things. One: If you pair him up with a Rose, Wade, dominant ballhandler – does one of them get worse by being without the ball more. Two: If you pair him up with someone who needs to clog the lanes to be effective, does one of them get worse by drawing them out or not allowing Lebron as free access to the rim.
The first problem is solved if Lebron can play as strong without the ball as he does with it. Just because he is great doesn’t mean he can. Then again, has anyone ever tried to get him to establish a position offball.. ilke.. in the post?
The second problem is solved if Lebron can develop that midrange game. Kobe certainly had to work at it. But Lebron doesn’t show someone who has worked a lot to develop his game like Kobe has. I’m sure he could do anything he wanted to do. Like Jordan probably could have won a championship earlier than he did. But he didn’t. Being the best player out there only goes so far.

Hakeem is my favorite big man ever
But I just don’t know if Hakeem can teach someone Hakeem-like moves.
That sort of thing is why I am not a big believer in former star players teaching young players how they played; they were usually too unique and often not even aware of HOW they did what they did that was so good. They just DID it.
Learning from Hakeem is something that sounds so incredibly awesome, but I dunno if he can teach anything that a good development coach and a video tape of Hakeem’s moves couldn’t do better.

That's true sometimes.
Sometimes I think it works. I think Bynum got better for working with Kareem. I think even Howard has gotten better working with Ewing. But the idea that you can see Bynum becoming like Kareem or Howard becoming like Ewing (that’s easier to imagine) or Hakeem, is pretty silly. At the end of the day, there is a lot of work and some natural instincts that have to come together. Like most of the game.
I would imagine that the only advantage to having a former star be the one teaching is for the cred points. Howard is just another punk kid who’ll tune out a coach and be thinking about girls and ice cream cones while trying to watch video. But when you actually have The Dream in your presence. Well. I don’t think it works anyway but I can imagine why they figure it’s worth trying.

Being on a good team makes people ignore things like that, but it’s horrible even in the day and age of Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson getting maxy max deals.

the end of this Mets/Nats game got entertaining. tied at 2 and then in the 8th the mets get 3. now bottom 9 the Mets closer loads the basis on a hit and 2 walks, then with one out Adam Dunn hits a ball that bounces off the top of the center field wall and back on to the field (!) for a 2 run double. missed a walk off grand slam by a couple inches. now Pudge up still with bases loaded (after an intentional walk) and 1 out.

If someone is a college professor who loves teaching and knows his subject in and out, or someone who has other credentials that gives them authority to speak on a topic it can be motivating. I .e.g. was pretty impressed by seeing Clinton in person in 2004 in a pretty small venue where he talked about world politics. And I was very impressed and motivated by some teachers and people who really know psychology. I can even find some TV preachers entertaining and thought-provoking from time to time.

Toy Story 3 is still amazing the second time through.
they did such a great job with that film. My younger sister(the one with down’s syndrome) had a great time, it’s so cute to hear her laugh, it always makes me happy. She was really confused by the opening short and kept saying “what the?!” And I felt bad during the Spanish Buzz because she can’t read(not well enough to read subtitles that quick at least, though she can read single words fairly well) so didn’t know what the subtitles said. I wanted to read them to her but felt I would be too loud for the other patrons. She still got a good laugh out of his dancing and stuff though.

That’s great. I would bet Pixar loves hearing stories like that. I once visited a technical director when they were making Monsters Inc., and really everyone is incredibly creative, pays attention to details like the lighting fitting the mood of the scene, and proud of what they are doing.
He just said their next project would be about “fish”. It was of course Finding Nemo :)

crazy
my stove caught on fire once, a big gigantic flame that totally freaked me out. It went out after about five minutes and it turned out a hole had burnt through the coil and the heat was causing it to flame out. super scary though

I was proofing some bread dough about a week ago, I like to do it in the oven.
So I usually turn the oven on for a couple of minutes and then turn it off so it’s around 120 degrees in there which lets me proof my bread in like half the time. I was cooking a big meal this time though and I put the bread in a bowl with a towel over the top of it, into the oven, but forgot to shut the oven off. My gf walked in a couple minutes later and said, “Should there be a fire in there?”
I had to grab the flaming towel out of the hot oven and throw it in the sink without setting the whole kitchen on fire. It was loads of fun!

Years ago my stepmom turned the wrong burner on in an attempt to boil eggs
and accidentally turned a burner on with grease in a pan on it. Then she went in the living room, and a few minutes later my brother walks in and says “you guys know the kitchen is on fire?” and then walks upstairs. I mean like full on cabinets & walls on fire and he just nonchalantly goes upstairs.
hahahaha
that’s crazy!! I turned the burner on once, shortly after I had been at th ER for a kidney stone and I was kind of loopy, and there was a cookie sheet on the burner I incorrectly turned on. I nearly burnt a hole through it before I realized the odd smell.

I used to be real crazy when I was younger…..this other time I opened a can of soup….and put in this metal thing…put that on top of the stove and just turned on the burner….just turned it on….thennnn….like 5 mins later…I ate the soup

it was great. mob movies are one of my favorite genres though, which probably makes it even more inexplicable that i hadn’t seen the movies until today.

i call some stuff “crime” films. usually when it’s about the criminals or the cops rather than the actual mob. I liked Top Secret, Real Genius, Willow, The Doors, True Romance, TombStone, the lame Batman movie, Top Gun, The Saint, At First Sight, and Wonderland better than Heat.
And prefer several of his performances to his one in Heat.

it was long, but I thought it showed a lot about the personal conflicts and sacrifices that the characters on both sides of the law had to make.
Almost the reverse of glamorizing their particular lots in life. Yet Deniro and Pacino were both locked into their roles, to the detriment of their personal lives. I thought it was really good.

I thought it didn't work at all.
I thought it was tiring and not believable. I even went to see it in the theater and was really hyped up for it. So disappointed. Top 5 disappointments for me going to see a movie. Maybe I was just in a weird mood when I saw it.

I dunno, as much as the recent trilogy sucks (though I always contend Revenge of the Sith was solidly mediocre), I don’t regret seeing them at all.

I think it gets a bad rap because of its association with TPM and AOTC. I think, on its own, its a decent movie, and quite enjoyable for the Star Wars fan.
It had the most of what I wanted in a Star Wars movie without all of the fluff of the other two.
I actually don’t have a huge problem with AOTC except for the love story subplot, which is garbage. I’m a fan of the franchise so I might have given the new ones more wiggle room than some. The kid in the TPM drove me crazy though, as did Jar Jar of course.

yeah, you and I are more or less on the same page here. AOTC was fun for the Star Wars geek, and would have been a decent movie if the dialogue hadn’t been utterly atrocious and the acting of Portman and Christiensen hadn’t been so facepalm worthy terrible.
She really took a few steps back with the quality of her acting in these movies. She's still way hot though.

absolutely. She’s a decent, albeit not great, actress but was A-W-F-U-L in those movies, especially AOTC. Then again, the dialogue definitely doesn’t help. Lucas has made some decent actors— Sam Jackson, Ewen Mcgregor— seem pretty lame. Only Ford and Guinness can be said to have turned in awesome acting performances in Star Wars.

I’m willing to go as far as to call her a good actress, but not further. My sister— a theater arts major in college— thinks she’s absolutely terrible, though I always insist that she’s just holding a grudge because of her performance in Star Wars (my sis isn’t the type to saw an actress is bad just cause she’s hot, but my sis is a big star wars fan).
I never saw Closer, so maybe I need to see that to be fair to her. She’s good in Garden State but the real good acting performance in that one is that of Sarsgaard. She’s quite mediocre in V for Vendetta. I did think she was pretty good in that small role she had in Cold Mountain.
Saarsgard was good in Garden State too, i agree. i didn’t like that movie.
Closer is awesome. that movie knocked me on my ass the first time i saw it. she got nominated for an Oscar for that one. as did Clive Owen.

full disclosure: i saw TPM in theaters two or three times and liked it. it was only the third time in the theaters i realized it wasn’t that good. at all. and i saw AOTC in theaters also and that is the one where i realized the series took a huge dive off a cliff in to a pile of sheep turds. Yoda fighting just didn’t work for me. at all. i know people love that but i thought it was tacky and pointless.
i saw Sith just because it came out and i felt like i needed to see it.

Pixar is a big cut above most other animated features. the only ones that come close (for me) are Beauty and the Beast and Shrek 1 and 2. some of the other older Disney movies are good in a nostalgic sort of way.

the young jksnake99 did enjoy Beauty and the Beast, and the HS jksnake99 loved Shrek 1. Not a big fan of Shrek 2 though.
i might have a good association with Shrek 2 cause i took a date on our first date to that movie and dinner. i thought it was really funny though.

I love mega man so much
I played all those games when I was a kid and loved the heck out of them. I have the Mega Man Anniversary Collection on Gamecube and still play it on occasion.

and those games had codes, brah. to save your progression. The third one, though, the final boss (Dr. Wily) was impossible to beat. I never figured him out.

they gave them to you after you died or beat a level. Maybe it started AFTER the first one, but I strongly remember entering the codes. It was a little grid with red and blue dots that you put into specific spots to get back to where you where. little 6 year old GiantBlazer had pieces of paper all over his room with Mega Man codes on them.

This is the best time of the year to live on this side of the river. I don’t need to buy fireworks, I can just take a walk and see so many intense fireworks. They blow up big stuff, and there are literally people from all sides of my house blowing stuff up most of the night anyway.

that's how I felt
we(you, DS, and I and maybe some others) debated whether or not the third is the greatest in the series, but after rewatching the first I can’t say the third is the best with any confidence. The first is just too special because of what it was and the time of my life it came out.

But 22 shots on goal (to the Whitecaps 6 or something).
I only heard them say that like 4-5 times because I think they were feeling like Vancouer was getting owned, and it was just a matter of time before something came together. Yet nothing ever quite came together. There was some great anti-ref chant that I couldn’t quite make out the words of after a very suspect off-sides call.

I didn’t end up going to the SJ Earthquakes game, but I watched a bit on tv. They have former US World Cup-er Bobby Convey which I didn’t realize, and also Ike Opara who is one of the defender prospects I’ve read about who may work his way into the 2014 World Cup picture. That’ll be enough to get me out to a game or two this summer but I was too lazy today.
are they going to have those same jerseys when they move to MLS or are they going to have a different sponser?
skywaker might know better. but i know the jerseys/logo design will change. as for sponsor they’ll obviously want more $ for the front of the jersey next year and idk if solarworld will be able to handle that. i know they change pretty regularly, last year toyota was on the front iirc.

Carwin mopped the floor with Brock in the first. Knocked him down with a hard right and just pummeled his face, but Brock had enough defense that the ref didn’t stop it.
Second round, Carwin was out of gas, Brock took him down and submitted him with an arm triangle in the first few minutes. Brock showed a ton of heart, and Carwin looked like an animal, at least until he gassed.

such an incredibly huge quantity of great films they’re going to miss out on in their life because of it. I didn’t find it to be slow at all. It’s tough to watch because of the subject material, but it’s pretty fast paced and there’s a ton going on throughout the entire film.

I don’t watch movies with subtitles because they take me out of the experience especially in a dialog heavy movie. It hinders immersion for me and it’s less enjoyable.

Yeah, I could see this being a problem
I (like Dougall just said) have a bit more trouble doing it in the theaters, but I can do it perfectly well at home. I can read pretty fast though and I tend to read the subtitles sort of in the background without really focusing on them while I give 99% of my attention to the film.

Yeah that film was tough for me too
Cinema 21’s screen is pretty large as well, but the biggest problem was the frequency in which they had white on white subtitles and I had to squint to see what the heck it said. I’m glad you caught the film, what did you think of it? (if you’ve mentioned it in another JD, I missed the conversation).

YES! the white on white subtitles at times were very difficult.
I liked it a lot. Might’ve been better in the comforts of my home as opposed to the seats at hollywood, I was squirming a lot towards the end and it was pretty long. I thought the action sequences were well done and I was cracking up a lot especially when the goofy dude was in the gun fight with the divers gear. It wasn’t great or anything but it was very entertaining. SPOILER…….. the whole oil thing at the end even made it kind of relevant to today, made me think a little.

haha, yeah, the diver’s helmet scene was hilarious. I went to the movie expecting a fun, silly, film, and got exactly what I expected, so I was happy. Agreed about being at home, too. I felt bad cause I saw it with DTL and EK and I was moving quite a bit towards the end (though to be fair I have minor RLS and if I sit completely still too long my leg starts hurting like a mo fo). and yes, the oil thing was kind of rad, especially how they were like “what the hell is this stuff?!”

Oden was drafted the year before, and while he was technically a rookie the same year as BayBay and Batumsie, he was drafted and signed a year BEFORE them.
He was just hurt that year that woulda’ been his rookie year.

1st round draft picks are signed to a 2 year deal guaranteed, with 2 more years at a team option… for 4 years total.
After their 3rd season, they are eligible to be signed to an extension.
Bayless, Rudy, and Batum just finished their 2nd season. Oden did as well, but his 3rd season in terms of his contract.

Some movies just look kinda boring to me so I know I’ll never get around to seeing them. Book of Eli is one of ’dem!
I agree about 6th Sense; the ending came as a surprise but the previous scenes support it. I wouldn’t be surprised if in Book of Eli, they do the “surprise” that Denzel is blind but didn’t have the conviction to support it in previous scenes. I call it cheating when a movie does that.
I haven’t seen the movie, so maybe they did support it or explained it with something else?

I liked it, it flowed at a nice pace, and good cinematography.
One other flaw, they had him looking up at the sun to the right – BUT HE WAS TRAVELIING WEST.

Nowadays
With Netflix having so many classics on Watch Instantly, and my DVR, and all the DVDs I own that I haven’t even watched, I find I usually don’t sit and watch the movies I would formerly watch if it was on… like Transformers, for example. Stuff I’d never pay to see but wouldn’t mind seeing for free.
There’s just too much to watch! The “Book of Eli”s of the world get pushed to the side, unless it is ‘sposed to be way rad. If everyone says "ehh, it was okay, I didn’t mind seeing it", then I won’t likely see it anytime soon. And I haven’t met anyone who loved The Book of Eli.
MAYBE. If I have HBO again and the remote is too far away. THEN I might watch it.

Never saw him getting hurt as much as he has, always looked like such an athletic specimen.
That probably an underrated part of Federer’s previous dominance – he was always fast and athletic enough but he was durable as well. Maybe that had something to do with how smooth he was in everything he did on the court.

If Nadal could stay healthy he might even have a decent shot at Federer’s Grand Slam record – this will be No. 8 and he has 5 years until he is out of his competitive prime. 8/9 in 5 years isn’t that ridiculous when you consider he almost never loses the French and will probably dominate Wimbledon once Federer is gone (which, as we discussed, may be now).
Interesting to have two of the greatest and most unique talents in the history of tennis to show up at the same time.

I've been thinking about that today.
He only needs to win a quarter of the other slams to have a chance at Federer if he can just stay strong at the French.
Maybe he wins the Open and the Aussie looms as a potential fourth major win in a row. That’d be cool.
Nadal will find a way to get this game, up 4-3 in the second, it would be a big blow.

Berdych’s serve is looking terrific right now. He’s got a puncher’s chance if they get to a tiebreak here.
