Anybody interested in Rudy for Xavier Henry?
If a 1 for 1 were going to happen that is. I know it will more likely be a consolidation trade but just putting out a thought.
I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense for us since we just picked up Sley Matt (lol terrible nickname), Luke Babbit, and have Elliot Williams as well are looking to sign Armon Johnson and/or Patty Mills. But I like this kid I wanted us to target him in the draft. He plays exceptionally well off-ball and is a combo 2/3 with a good height at 6’7" with potential left at 19yrs old.
Memphis is reluctant to sign him to a standard 120% rookie deal. They are also looking to move Mike Conley Jr. to the bench and play OJ Mayo at the 1. Leaving a pretty open spot up at the 2. Only Sam Young is the remaing 2 guard left. Rudy could be their starter and play with Marc Gasol.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
ABSOLUTELY!
But I think Memphis chuckles and turns that down easily.

I doubt there is a team who would trade their 2010 1st round pick for Rudy.
I doubt we’re getting offers of future 1sts. Teams know we have to trade so we are working from a position of weakness and most teams need to send a salary back in any trade unless they are under the cap or have a TPE. I would be willing to look at 2010 2nd round picks who were impressive in summer league. Ebanks and Caracter looked good but not sure I could stomach seeing Rudy on the Lakers with Pau. Hobson (Bucks) and Lawson (Suns) are other players I like that could be available for Rudy. Not sure if these deals could work under the salary cap. Lance Stephenson (Pacers) probably is unavailable but we could ask. Are any of these adequate value for Rudy? Do you bring him to camp waiting for an in-season trade? I’m not convinced that better offers are forthcoming.

You're underestimating Rudy's value
The Blazers got a near lottery pick for Martell. I’m sure a lot of teams would give up anticipated mid to late first round picks for Rudy. Xavier Henry might be a little high, but not much.
I expect that the Blazers are looking to get more than that, probably unrealistically. Rudy’s value last season was very high, closer to a top 5 or 10 pick. Now, it’s fallen a bit, and it remains to be seen whether the Blazers will cut their losses or “chase the market.”
One potential suitor – you don’t think Chicago (which still needs more shooting, after getting their $18 mil offer sheet for Redick matched) would trade their first round pick next year for Rudy? They would be crazy not to. I’m betting the Blazers are demanding more.

"Probably unrealistic"... "Rudy's value has fallen a bit"... may be understated a bit.
I hope you are right and there are decent options out there. If there are, what are we waiting for? Are the offers going to get better as Rudy goes public like he did in the linked article? Do the Bulls have any capspace left to absorb Rudy’s contract? I do the deal with Chicago that fast. If you are a Bulls fan, do you do that deal? Is Rudy gone after 1 year or 2? Does defense matter in Chicago?
Martell was much better than Rudy last year. Solid on defense and inconsistent but occasionally excellent offensively. More importantly, he’s not expected to escape to a Euro league team after a season. He had much more value than Rudy.

If there are, what are we waiting for?
If Cho can wait until Sept 12 (after the Worlds) and Rudy has played well for team Espana, it may improve the offers for Fernandez
Hopefully, Jason Quick’s "drama"won’t force the Blazer’s hand to move sooner than necessary. If this is the case Quick would be doing the franchise a diservice in an attempt to increase readership at the Oregonian

I'm sure the hope is that better offers will come if Rudy plays well.
The idea that there are decent offers on the table now is speculation. While it may be true, I am doubtful. If Rudy looks below average at the Worlds, we could be left with the unpleasant choice of forcing Rudy to camp or letting him go without player compensation (could get some cash).

that's the risk
but it’s hard to believe he can further sully his trade value unless he is hurt in Turkey

I had to rummage around looking for something official but in Rudy's rookie year he finished 9th in the Rookie Rankings
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/bryan_armen_graham/04/15/rankings/index.html
In someways I consider that worthy of being a lottery pick.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
I think a 10-15 pick is just about right for him. Remember this guy can shoot the lights out. He is pretty electrifying when he's comfortable.
Rudy is too productive a player to say he’s not worth a first rounder.

Doesn't it depend on circumstances?
The one thing Rudy does better than nearly every rookie or 2nd year player is shoot. He’s a lights out shooter. That’s worth quite a lot to the right team. I’m the biggest Rudy hater on the Bedge but I can still see his quality. A 10-15 pick is about right if we get antsy.
I'd be furious and calling for a new GM if my team gave up a low lottery pick for a one-dimensional shooter who is worthless on defense and will be back in Spain within 2 years.

Thanks. So your checks are signed by Paul. I appreciate the opinion of somebody in the biz.
Of course, I thought the purpose of this site was for fans to express their opinions. If Rudy gets traded for a top 15 pick then Pip has bragging rights on me. If he doesn’t, then maybe you’ll be a bit more civil and attempt to contribute to a meaningful conversation in the future.

Could be
But Quick said it had nothing to do with a trade. Technically, trade requests could be a “different” issue that what he was referring to.
Can I buy you a fish sandwich?
If that's what Quick was talking about,
I am seriously ROFLing at that loser. Really, Quick? We’re willing to trade Rudy? THAT’S your big news? (eyes rolling)
Guess what Jason – inside scoop here – I think the big news is that BP has a bit of a image problem right now! Gasp!
You mean into a big boy like Paul or James?
by Norsktroll on Jul 27, 2010 6:12 AM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
Not nearly the same
Both Paul and James are legit superstars who played many years with their original teams. Rudy gave up and started whining after one season of mediocre play on his part. He had every opportunity to prove he deserved more minutes. Rudy will be very lucky to find another team in the NBA that gave him as much support as the Blazers did, especially now that he’s shown his true colors.

Darren Collison.
Unless he gets on a team, whose offense he fits
Then they’ll adore him because he could be fairly awesome in an uptempo offense where he’s not trying to drive the lane against a set defense. He can make things happen in the full court and be a play maker.
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
Anti-climatic if this was the drama he refered to ...
Seems as if we’ve all known for a while that Portland is trying to trade him and from the translation of the original article from el Mundo Desportivo it sounds like he understands he won’t get released and is okay with that. Which means either Quick was wrong or it was something else entirely ….
Give it a chance
That link was from a Spanish paper, not from Quick, for all we know Quick’s news isnt even about Rudy. But if we want to put any stock on the words of crazy people, Mike Rice said on courtside that he thinks its Jerryd Bayless who will make demands. I dont know either way, and Mike Rice is a crazy (but loveable) old man, but lets just wait and see, maybe the drama will be a good thing and open up some movement for roster upgrades!
Oden shall return!
I think I remember he said it wasn't a trade, but this isn't technically a trade yet.
It’s just what passes for drama in late july.
Watershed moment.

I was hoping it was something about Comcast
Is it to much to ask that we build a championship roster and stay below the luxury tax...
JQ said that it was about a Blazer player
and a “continuing saga”

Are there any comparable situations under Rich Cho's tenure in OKC/Seattle
comparable to this one? Maybe we can use it to predict what Portland would want in return.

Eh... this is old drama that's not really even drama IMO.
Treat people well because Karma can hit you at any second.
I know. Quick is quickly (you see what I did there?) becoming kind of pathetic and a joke of a writer.
I’m sure this is the news he was talking about. He gets everyone all up in arms about it, hoping to leave blazer nation on the edge of their seat waiting to hear about the upcoming drama, and then he doesn’t even break the story. ( If this is in fact the story anyway, which I’m pretty sure it is )

Let him rot.
We don’t need to trade him unless we’re really fixated on keeping both Armon and Patty. If it comes down to the point where we really want to keep both of them, and it’s getting down to the end of training camp and we’ve got too many bodies then fine, send him out Sergio-style. Best lowball bidder wins.
“Hey Rudy, we got your trade. They’re gonna love you on the Clippers.”
Like the Whos down in Whoville they did it without boxes or ribbons or bows, they did without centers or posting down low. They won without All-Stars and Spaniards and Frenchmen. They won with old geezers and sub-par defense-men. They won playing rookies from deep off the benches. They won with their grit and their guts in the trenches. And some who observed them have been known to say that their hearts grew three sizes (at least!) on the way. One hopes with their poise and their passion now proven that once they are healthy their game will be groovin'. -- Dave
might damage player/agent perception of the team
who is rudy’s agent, btw? is he repped by an important one?

i hope this is what quick was talking about
quick is wrong 99% of the time, so either he gets this right and can be ignored for the next 5 years, or like usually hes blowing smoke to try and build a fire

If Bayless and/or Rudy it wouldn't be surprising.
Adding Miller and Matthews to Roy adds up to three guards getting a lot of minutes. Bayless and Rudy are automatically going to be squeezed if Matthews starts ahead of Bayless at the 2 guard. This will leave, at most 13 or so minutes per game for the 4th guard behind Miller, and nothing for anyone else – including rookies – save injury minutes.
IS THIS REALLY BREAKIN NEWS?!!! REALLY?!! really?

I know there is a lot Rudy hate lately, but me as a spanish homer I am have to make some statements.
First, Rudy is not James or Paul, but he is a worthy player, and to my knowledge, all he wants is to play as much as he can, he always said the same thing, and lately remarked he want to improve as a player, and playing is the only way to do it.
Second, I don’t blame Nate for not using him, Roy is an allstar caliber player that plays the same spot, fair enough, but to be honest, Nate system is boring and may work with an all star front court, but IMO it has killed Portland the last two years and I don’t see how will help next season, Nate is no good developing rookies, unless are tailor made for him as Roy.
Third, I really hope Portland gets a worthy trade and Rudy can play starting minutes in any team in the league, if it’s a west coast team, better for him and me :)
I just want to say guys this is probably the best NBA site in the Internet and I will be checking it either Rudy stays or not, and hope the team makes great year, but I don’t see Nate as the coach who can make this team shine, KP wasn’t the bad guy in Portland.
Rudy minutes FTW
Really good post! I hope we all wish Rudy the best and that he lands in a place where he gets another opportunity.
Rudy really struggled last year. Could have been injuries or that mentally he just wasn’t there. I don’t believe Rudy didn’t try his best. I also don’t believe he wasn’t given an opportunity. The Blazers need to move on and so does Rudy. I’d be happy to get value in a trade, but I don’t think that is likely considering teams know we want to move him. He could be successful elsewhere and I’ll be happy for him if it happens.
