I noticed that
“The Knicks’ offer — and any realistic one — would center on the willingness to absorb the contracts of Emeka Okafor (due $53.2 million over the next four years) and/or Posey (due $13.4 million over the next two seasons). The Knicks, who have a clear need for a defensive center like Okafor and wouldn’t necessarily balk at his contract, also could include the $11.3 million expiring contract of Eddy Curry, $3 million cash and an assortment of young, low-priced players including Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, and some of those acquired in offseason moves (Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike, Ray Felton) once the window during which they can’t be traded opens. Felton, a free-agent signee, can’t be traded until Dec. 15. The players acquired from Golden State in the sign-and-trade arrangement for David Lee may have a 60-day waiting period depending on how the Knicks consummated the deal.”

Yeah, thanks but I just dashed it off and
“Ufo Tofu” is the name of a Bela Fleck album, and as pualo peevishly points out, it’s not a palindrome.

who says we're bidding against ourselves?
I certainly don’t think the Knicks are a big threat, but Orlando and Dallas, as well as other teams can potentially push our offer higher.
improving an offer is bidding against yourself
unless it was a planned fall back position it is usually a bad move to do it.
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
not if your improving your offer to
provide a better offer than another team, such as Orlando or Dallas. Thats what I was saying. Then we would be bidding against ORL and DAL, not ourselves.
until he is traded or the trade deadline passes...

It isn't. Phase 2 of the process is starting now.
Today was about ending the public speculation so NO can tell teams they don’t have to trade Paul. Paul and his people will keep quiet for a few weeks to give NO a chance to make their best deal.

The disparity between the Paul that all of NO fell in love with and the one who is close with LBJ
kind of makes any press reported either way hard to believe, despite the fact that disparity was created by the press in the first place.
Wasn't Berger the one who broke the Paul story to begin with?
Sounds like speculation designed to cover his backside. Now it could be legit (I’m hoping it is and we still have a shot), but Paul was pretty specific. “I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come.” Or at least that’s what the fanshot said.
"[S]ince men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to pursue many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers, and that was that first yoke they placed upon themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of evils the prepared for their descendants. For, besides continuing thus to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit, and as they had at the same time degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet; and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to have them." -Jean-Jacques Rousseau
"represent the city and state"
Notice he did not say “stay in” or include the Hornets specifically. I represented Portland wherever I go. It might not have been intentional…or it might have been.
yep is over
the best course of action for Paul to get out is to be as publically unhappy as possible. He could give a squat what value the hornets get out of him, if he wanted out that would be the tactic.
Playing nice will not get him closer to out.
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
I see where you are coming from but I think he cares about public perception.
I don’t think he wants to burn bridges in NO like Lebron did in Ohio. Also, I can see NO trying to convince him, “We are going to move you, but we have no leverage if other teams think you are forcing us to trade”. Just say the right things and we can get a deal on the table, otherwise, we might have to keep you here.
there is no way that Paul can leave before his contract is up that does not burn that bridge to dust
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
In any case, I think the question for Portland is still what to do now.
I see three options:
1 – They can make changes and go down a path that does not include CP3
2 – They can make changes to improve their chances of getting CP3 before the trade deadline
3 – They can stand pat and see how the current roster develops.
This is the telltale line of the article...
The Hornets are concentrating on Eastern Conference teams as trade partners in the event they decide it isn’t feasible to enter the 2010-11 season with their franchise player wanting out.
If the Hornets are looking to get cheap rather than win, then this rationale is flimsy-to-worthless. If you’re rebuilding, who the hell cares if you trade within your conference? On the other hand, this is great arm-twisting rhetoric for any Western Conference team that might be actively seeking to work out a deal with you.
After reading the article though, I would frankly be happy to see CP3 go to the Eastern Conference. Let all those all-stars beat each other to a pulp during the regular season. Let’s see how they enjoy 50-win seasons being the opening bid of the playoff seeding discussion, or figuring out what the fourth tie-breaker is going to be.
Really, Paul leaving the conference is one more reason to not give away the farm to bring CP3 here.
Like the Whos down in Whoville they did it without boxes or ribbons or bows, they did without centers or posting down low. They won without All-Stars and Spaniards and Frenchmen. They won with old geezers and sub-par defense-men. They won playing rookies from deep off the benches. They won with their grit and their guts in the trenches. And some who observed them have been known to say that their hearts grew three sizes (at least!) on the way. One hopes with their poise and their passion now proven that once they are healthy their game will be groovin'. -- Dave
From Real GM
“A number of sources indicate that Paul and his new group of power brokers at Creative Artists Agency, led by Rose, continue to pull strings behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, the Hornets have been looking at the Magic, Bobcats and Nets as potential trade partners.
New Orleans appears focused on trading Paul to the Eastern Conference, while Paul wants to compete for a championship."

Great. Now we get 50 more CP3 posts a day.

looks like Berger is trying to out 'A-Woj' A-woj.
Berger knows if he wants the clout and traffic of the Yahoo! columnist he’d better start slanging the mud a bit.
Being insistent when you're wrong is just really, really annoying.
