CP3 To PDX? I Think So... Foolproof trade idea
Three way trade between Portland, New Orleans, and New York
Blazers receive:
Hornets receive:
- Joel Pryzbilla
- Andre Miller
- Jerryd Bayless
- Dante Cunningham
- Greg Oden
- Wilson Chandler
- Blazers 2011 1st round pick
Knicks receive:
This trade works for all the teams involved. The Blazers would get CP3, whose resume speaks for itself. We would also get an overpaid, yet solid center in Okafor that will consistently average 10-10 and hasn't missed a game in 3 seasons.
New Orleans gets the pleasure of getting out from under Okafor's 4 year/$52 million contract, and also gets around $15 million in expiring contracts with Miller and Pryzbilla, who are by the way, quality veterans. I think we all know that the sky is the limit on Oden if he can stay healthy. Bayless has the potential to be a very good starter in this league and so does Chandler, who happened to average 15 points per game last year. Cunningham has the skills to be a quality backup and a good role player. The draft pick, which will most likely be an early to mid 20's pick is to sweeten the offer and make it even easier for the Hornets to rebuild. New Orleans gets everything they want in this trade, expiring contracts, dumping Okafor, and also getting some pieces that will expedite their rebuilding process.
It's really no secret that the Knicks are after Rudy, and quite honestly, he would be scary in Mike D'Antoni's uptempo style offense. Some guys are just meant for that style offense, take Channing Frye for example. He went from benchwarmer to a lights out shooter just as a matter of going to a team that runs an offense tailor made for his playing style. The same logic applies to Rudy Fernandez in my mind.

Dude, Oden when healthy, and out of foul trouble
Is a mix between Bill Russell, Prime Shaq, and Hakeem Olajuwon. Why would you even think of trading him for Paul? This is just laughably bad for Portland.
it places us no closer to a title
and we have guarantee Paul is here for more than two seasons
I do not do this deal.

Yeah really,
Is Okafor really gonna become more of an offensive paint presence with Paul in Portland than he was with Paul in New Orleans? Otherwise we still have no low post scoring and Aldridge would bear the brunt of peoples dissatisfaction, ala this year.
We need Oden.
if CP3 and David West were enough to be contenders a few years back
i’m sure cp3 can do it again with Roy who is already an all star and LA who should be among the wests top PFs this year now that Amare and Boozer have left.

I want to win a title just not compete for it
we know CP3 and West were not enough already, why would the formula be different here?

Add Chandler, Peja, Mo Pete, and Jannero Pargo
That team was a lot more than just those two players. They were unable to get back, as Chandler got bit by the injury bug, and their other role players got old and got traded. Chandler and Stojakovic were especially painful to lose, as the former gave them good post defense and offense, freeing up David West, and the latter gave them a good shooter and crunch time scorer. And I’m not convinced that the only reason those players were as good as they were is because of Paul. Peja was already a good player, and Chandler has since proven with the U.S. team that he is a good player, when healthy. Paul made them better, for sure, but they were already good.
Are the Blazers with Paul, minus what we would have to give up to get him, better than that Hornets team? Yes, but we’re already better than that team. Getting Paul leaves us glaringly worse in some crucial areas, notably perimeter defense and frontcourt depth. Barring Dante Cunningham becoming a combination of Carmelo Anthony, Gerald Wallace, and Ron Artest, we’re no closer to beating LA, OKC, or Miami this season than we already are. We get better if Paul sticks around and gives us a chance to see what we have with whatever young talent we have left and to use the MLE for a couple years, but with only two years left on his contract and a new CBA in the works, it’s a huge risk.
lol at this comment
i hope you are being sarcastic comparing oden to three of the greatest centers of all time. and it doesn’t matter if he’s clark kent, HE HAS NEVER PLAYED AN ENTIRE SEASON IN HIS LIFE!!!!!!!! not giving up on the guy, but people need to snap out of it and look at reality

Nope...
Giving up too much future for too short of a commitment by Paul. I’ve heard several people say that CP3 wouldn’t have put us on his short list if he didn’t want to stay in PDX. That may or may not be true but the mind… and ego… of an NBA Superstar isn’t predictable. Giving up Greg, Joel and 4 other Blazers is too much. If that’s the only offer NO would accept then we shouldn’t make it!
paul has an incentive to sign here
if he can resign before the cba is up..wouldnt his contract be grandfathered in? chances are that the players union will have to concede a lot this time around in the cba.

prety sure NO wouldn't balk at this proposal..
however im really hoping that a deal can be done for less than what you’ve proposed…not sure if anyone has mentioned the fact that GREG ODEN is in a contract year CORRECT??? lets say we he’s traded to NO….what are the chances he resigns there.?!? slim to none i’d say so wouldn’t his trade value to NO be relatively lower?? anybody??

They'd have Oden's bird rights and could match any offer to keep him. I'm pretty sure of this. But if Paul wanted to
leave here in 2 years, he could, and we’d get nothing.

This might be a fair trade
but I’d try almost any other combination to avoid trading Oden.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
Oden, Rudy, 3 other guys, and a 1st rounder
My God…. PLEASE STOP THE MADNESS.
The CP3 Love is out of control around here.
Brilliant trade, especially if we can be sure of keeping CP3 for more than 2 years.
The Blazers don’t lose any top players plus they dump the Greg Oden problem. Camby and Matthews would be first off the bench. Personally, I’d rather include Pendergraph than Cunningham in the trade. I think Dante is more ready to contribute this year.
The only way Paul would want to come to Portland is
if Oden is here and he blossoms. Added to BRoy, LMA and Oden, Paul makes a dynamic team. But without a first-class center here it doesn’t work for Paul — we’re just another contender. Adding Okafor in the trade will give us 3 Okafors — the man himself plus Pyrzbilla and Camby. Who needs 3 Okafors? Certainly not CPS — he’s trying to get away from the one he has. That’s why Orlando (with Superman) is the number one destination candidate right now. But with Oden, BRoy and LMA, Portland makes a real destination for CP3. Okafor will have to come along for the trade ride, of course, but one of the 4 7-footers (at least) will have to go; the key is, Oden stays. The real question is who and what else to give the Hornets, and the answer is: Everyone and anyone, and everything and anything, their heart desires!
