Adrian Wojnarowski writes...
------------------------
Worldwide Wes was responsible for Oklahoma City Thunder executive Rich Cho getting hired as the Portland Trail Blazers’ GM. Now, Portland is one more franchise under the impression that Wes can broker a trade for Paul.

It is written in the Book of Revelation

Somehow, the letter W is really signifies a 6, so the initials in his nickname prove it…666!

by HailOden! on Jul 23, 2010 2:20 PM PDT up reply actions

The letter W is made of two letter Vs.

Each V has three vertices. So a W has 6. Except in a W, two of the vertices are combined into one. This is to represent the subtlety of evil.

And the "W" also contains an upside down "V"

I cannot even discuss the implications of this on a public forum.

Worldwide Wes is also Al-Qaeda's #2 in command

Only Bin Laden is higher ranked in Al-Qaeda’s organization table then WorldWide Wes.

Saw this as well.

Dislike Woj, but thought the rest of the article was pretty decent for a change. Strange the bent he seems to have towards Portland. Can’t believe Worldwide Wes flew to Helsinki with Cho.

Here's the connection, possibly

From TrueHoop:

I have written a lot about William Wesley, who now works representing NBA executives at CAA. You’re represented by CAA. How’d you choose them?

I’m represented by CAA. Terry Prince is the guy doing my contract. I’ve known [CAA agent] Leon Rose for a long time, Wes is with CAA. But Terry Prince is my agent at CAA, and it just felt right to go with them.

At first I thought that worldwide wes was a new nickname for Wesley Matthews.

and then I was shocked to think how he had something to do with the Cho hire, and involvement with Chris Paul. haha. And we thought the guy was “overpayed”.

Pshht. Yet another attempt to generate hits from Blazer fans.

It worked. I am ashamed that I broke my AWoj rule and clicked on that.

The article is about Chris Paul and William Wesley; there’s nothing more than the one line about the Wes/Cho connection. Too bad; it sounds like an intriguing story — if there’s any truth behind it, of course. Nuthin’ like a front page link on Blazersedge to drive traffic to an AWoj article. Ben, sometimes I wonder if he’s playing you.

I seldom get into sportswriter bashing

but even I have to admit that this hit piece is nothing more than a series of blatantly unsubstantiated allegations, hysterical assertions, and nasty cuts:

They’re using Paul as a commodity to elevate their clout
What’s best for Paul’s family is best for everyone’s family in the NBA.
It needs James to restrict the polluting onto others of his own warped value system.
James plays for the Miami Heat, but somehow he wants control of transactions elsewhere, too.
He wants the building of these so-called super teams to protect his own legacy, to make it look like he isn’t the only superstar searching for the easy way to championships.
Wesley has been running around for months trying to orchestrate a trade for Paul, and the packages he proposes are beyond comical. He doesn’t even know half the names of players on the rosters.
Paul has two years left on his contract and no leverage
In Paul’s earliest days with Team USA, officials preferred Deron Williams(notes) to him because they believed Williams was far more his own man.

If I were Paul, LeBron and Wesley, I would so unfriend Woj.

A Woj reports as if he were a direct observer when to the best of my knowledge he gathers all his information from “anonymous sources” (if they even exist). This is dishonest writing. He needs to cite his sources (he can even name them as anonymous sources), provide quotes or at least summarize the information obtained from a source (and attribute it to the source).

It’s not even clear if he’s writing an opinion article or a feature article! When I read this article I couldn’t tell opinion from fact from insider knowledge etc… I just can’t trust that what A Woj writes is accurate.

It is entertaining though and I guess that’s the point.

Is Wes a point guard? What’s his 3 point percentage? Maybe we could trade Rudy for him.

by JonathanPDX on Jul 23, 2010 3:08 PM PDT reply actions

I am almost wondering if the Blazers already have a deal in place.

We signed Wes Mathews when we already have a better defensive specialist in Batum. New Orleans wants to get rid of money in Okafor, Posey, and Paul (although they would prefer to keep Paul dropping him is likely the best way to shed the bad contracts). If they trade Paul they are the bad guys. If they wait until Paul comes out demanding a trade the organization can save face while saving money. They can vilify Paul (to the fans) even though secretly they were in on it the entire time. This also gives the Blazers time so that it appears that the deal was brokered by Cho and not already set up when he got here. Thus Cho takes over KP’s “Chuck Norris” status and the trade renews faith in Blazers management. All the while Worldwide Wes funnels money into Swedish bank accounts (this took place in Helinski remember) to give kickbacks to CP3, the Hornets and the rest of his cronies at CAA. Anyway this may come off as a conspiracy theory but I am 86.5% certain this is what is going down.

And then the Russians...

come join Paul on his yacht, surrounded in a veil of secrecy held up by the ex-SEAL “crew” of PA’s yacht. From there, using PA funds and the Russian space program, they send Cho into space so that he can operate the giant laser which was launched by PA immediately following “The Decision”. Cho proceeds to wipe the Miami Heat practice facility off the face of the earth, eliminating all challenge to the newly formed “SuperBlazers”…

by kickbrass on Jul 23, 2010 4:41 PM PDT reply actions

He is a hack. So WHAT...CP3 is thinking about coming to Portland where he is surrounded

by All Stars just like James? Or Dallas? Give me a break.
He’s just supposed to stay in NO, where they have done pretty much NOTHING to show they want a championship.
Maybe Paul was thinking NO may actually get someone to play along WITH him in NO if he made his feelings clear.
I’ve read/heard that the ownership (previous) was pretty dysfunctional. Maybe the new ownership won’t be.
Paul did say his FIRST preference is to stay in NO. That is not at all what James did.
Woj is a sensationalist who seems to prefer this over any sort of accuracy in his writing.

but that's his nickname

???

I like how in this day and age if a guy isn’t 100% transparent to media outlets his character is immediately questioned. Even Abbott did extensive research into Wes’s history and career and it comes up clean. He’s just recently become a bonafide agent, and there’s essentially no real dirt on his track record.

Not really sure what A Woj’s angle is here, except to perpetuate his own drivel to those simple enough to eat it up at face value. Sad.

by Billy Hoyle on Jul 23, 2010 6:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Controversy sells

Someone shady may be benign, or they may be insidious. If you can spin it so that they look odious, people will want to gobble up any “insider” info you have, because they are concerned about the power and influence this character wields.

Wes probably does some good things, and he probably does some bad things. Though all in all, it sounds like he’s just out to help players make money and connections, and get something out of it himself. Woj’s efforts to make everything into a melodrama by vilifying guys like KP, LeGarie, WWW, etc. is just good ol’ fashioned muckraking to get hits.

CAA is huge...they are doing par for the course

In show biz, it is quite common for them to rep the writer, director, and star of film. They just put it all together and make so their clients get preference.

It will happen the same in the NBA. You watch. They will be representing people of all position in the NBA and control who goes where. Plus, the marketing opportunities they have with their commercial and tv/film departments is very attractive for pro athletes.
