Ant the Lakers get another guy to sign up for the "L.A. discount"
Barnes takes 3.6 million for 2 years instead of 7 million for 2. Just like with Blake, they get more for less...

yes
but he had offers for more money elsewhere. not faulting him for signing on with the champs – it’s a great match. but he did leave money on the table. Not too many other teams can get players to do that.
LA can now because they are winning. but somehow they still can pull off stuff like this when they are mediocre too (see Kobe and Shaq both going there)
"I want to be traded to a contender" is almost always code-speak for "I'm a loser."

Well...
When Shaq went there he signed a 7 year $121 million deal… That isn’t excatly a discount. Then Kobe went as a rookie after being traded there from the Hornets. Which IDK if the rookie scale was around in 1996.
So I don’t see your point in the Lakers still getting a discount with those two.

In their cases, I was referring to how they got there
Shaq walked away from a recent Finals team to take the same (maybe even less?) money for a mediocre at best Lakers squad.
Kobe, as an 18 year old draftee, forced a trade to the Lakers by threatening to sit out and/or play in Europe if anyone else drafted him.
So, they got the key pieces to 5 eventual titles not through smart drafting, hard work, good planning, or making trades, but rather because the two players wanted to play in L.A. for a team that was at the time, on the way to the lottery. That’s a huge advantage to have.

and his 7 for 2 with TOR couldn't happen after all (cap rules).
Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".
...no seriously--stop.
7/2 was with the Cavs
He was going to get 9/2 with Toronto.
Guy just took a massive paycut because a couple of people could function calculators correctly…

not so fast, per hollinger
He added, “I’m at least 35% sure this deal is legal under the CBA” RT @BA_Turner: Matt Barnes’ agent: “He has a relationship with Kobe”
Michael Jordan is the Nicolas Batum of America

League will bend the rules and allow it. It is the Lakers.
In Bayless I trust.

he was joking
the agent biffed up the deal with Toronto, and was joking about the legality of this deal. It’s legal without much effort – just the remaining MLE that Blake didn’t get.

Blake made his worth (in this day and age of bad contracts)
