I could not care less what type of player he was. I care what type of coach he will be. He’s been out of basketball for years and I haven’t yet heard any evidence he’s put any time into developing coaching skills. I am very dubious about this.

He's coached AAU ball
But yeah, they’re hiring a guy 1) without much of a track record as a coach, and 2) said that the front office was his goal, not coaching.
Kind of a strange hire from the folks who’ve been chanting the “experience” mantra for a while now. But hey, who knows? Maybe he’s a diamond in the rough. Time will tell.
I know he was president of the player's union
and a smart tough ballplayer. These are qualities enough for me.
He's Buck freaking Williams people!!
He was and I sure still is a very bad man. He’s just what LMA and GO need now that they know Lucas won’t be back. Almost every NBA team has a “Big Man” coach these days.

I have no idea.
But presumably Nate does.
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
Hmm
Not to hate on Buck, but what exactly does he bring to the table? I guess he’s a big body and can work with the boys on footwork and positioning, but other than that I’m not sure. Besides, it’s been how long since he’s been away from the game?
I’m hoping this wasn’t an emotional hire.
A young Buck Williams learned his technique from veteran enforcer Maurice Lucas, back in New Jersey
and now he wants to take what he learned and pass it along to the next generation of NBA players
Continuity-wise, it’s a good match. Buck will pick up where Luke left off with most of the same young big men
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
All Blazers will be required to wear goggles next year.

I'll reserve judgement, since I have nothing to go on
but call me dubious for now

Seems like a very odd hiring.
But I guess it’s better than some of the other names I’ve heard thrown out.
