Juwan Howard Appreciation Thread

Well its official, Juwan will be playing for the Heat next year.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-heat-howard

Straight up, I would like to say personally I had an un - dying love for him every time he stepped on the floor. He would go out there and bring toughness, leadership, and veteran savvy on the court, and sometimes just straight up school players that were more than ten years younger than him. He was so big for us this last season, and every time he scored it caused me to give that extra little cheer because what is there not to love about this guy? He did the very best at what his body would allow him, and put quite a few hard (Top if not no.1 flagrant fouler in the league) hits on opposing teams looking for an easy bucket.

Overall, Juwan, I am going to miss you. And you can expect a standing ovation from me when you return to the RG next season.

If you actually don't like Juwan Howard after last season, I feel sorry for you

That guy was the EPITOME of NBA cool last season. He was the perfect veteran mentor who turned out, thanks to his dedication to conditioning, to have plenty left in the tank. He made the young guys he played against look bad again & again—and he smiled while doing it. That’s cool personified—which is why Dante, Pendy, et al so obviously looked up to Juwan Howard.

I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.
You too, Przy: everyone knows you're the heart & soul of the Blazers.

seriously

I would bet all my worldly possessions that we wouldn’t have won at least 5 game last year without sparks from J-How. Did you haters even watch any games last year or are you just kicking people while they leave per the usual?

confusing syntax

I don’t mean we wouldn’t have won 5 games for the season, I mean that we would’ve had our season total…minus 5. whatever

Howard was a proven vet and Nate made him come of the bench. That was pretty noble to me

and he forced Nate to start him because he knew what was best for the team.

most inspirational for me. He's from Chicago and so am I...so of course he gained extra points

just for that. Hope he comes back to live in PDX. And work in some capacity for the Blazers.

Howard was truly inspirational

He manned the middle while we had no other center than Pendergraph. It seemed like they averaged 10 fouls a game together trying to hold the lane. He played with heart, intelligence, savvy and tremendous effort.

Thank you, Juwan. I think your heart helped keep us in position to reach the playoffs.

One of my favorite Blazers last year

I thought you were staying dude!! Your comments sure did make it seem like you were going to stay.

But oh well, you were great for us. Thanks Juwan.

Juwan was awesome for us last year.

I hope he finally gets his ring….as long as its not at the expense of the blazers.

Juwan, you will be missed… but not because of your game. Because now I need to find someone new to squint my eyes at when they shoot.

Unfortunately, Juwan is a great pickup for the Heat

I tell ya, I’m pretty impressed that Riles was able to add Miller and Juwan to the big 3. That’s going to be a very tough team to beat if healthy come playoff time.

Thanks for everything Juwan, we would not have made the playoffs last year without you…

Hmm, come to think of it, as that might have cost Nate his job – Damn you Juwan!

Dear Juwan Howard

I will never forget your amazing game in Dallas

2 points on 1 for 3 shooting, 12 rebounds, 1 assist

dre’s 52 got us to the end, then you won the game for us with your fadeaway.

i like you but youre with the enemy now so i cant hope you do well. no hard fouls on greg like this.

btw I always liked your smile. you have nice teeth.

oh and your goatee is prob the best in the league.

well good luck. hopefully you were our injury vampire and you’re gone now so we wont have to suffer all our injuries like last season cause that was poopy.

Kevin Love broke the rim in my high school gym, but he still rocks my dirty socks…..and he is a total fox.

Talk about being between a rock & a hard place

It’s simply impossible for me to root against Juwan Howard after what he did in Portland last season. But I can’t root FOR LeBron James. Er, but I can’t root for Kobe Bryant either (revolting thought). What a quandry. For the first time, I think I’ll simply tune out for the Finals.

Wait a minute: who said EITHER of those teams will make the Finals? Nothing is set in stone (even if David Stern desires it). Injuries happen. I don’t wish pain & suffering on anyone—not even Kobe or LeBron. But a pair of fractured big toes would please me no end for those two.

I don’t know … I guess he was inspiring early on, but come playoffs, I wanted no part of his little production/lack of defense/constant fouling

Thanks for bringing Pendergraph along, and all the others too. Thanks for being the steadying influence that they all needed.

I wish you could have been with us 10 years ago.

Juwan, I appreciate what you did last year. All the people that don't are just haters. I didn't like you much before you were a Blazer, but that's just cause I didn't know you.

You helped save the season last year, and I’ll never forget you for that.

I'm a Greg Oden honk, yeah.

Even when I was still a Sonic fan, I liked Oden more than Kevin Durant.

Juwan Howard loves the game... and I love him for that.

You know how there are guys in the NBA who take the court at times looking like “Yawn, another day, another game” or “Zzzz, I really only care about playing hard in the playoffs” or “Dang, this season is just way too long” or “This is a business and I’m just punching my time card”…? Juwan Howard is not that guy. He looks fired up to play the game of basketball every time he checks in. Everybody talks about how professional he is, but I think he’s also someone with a real passion for the game. I really enjoyed seeing that in a veteran and watching him get his teammates fired up here in Portland. Plus, he’s professional, hard working, hard-nosed, witty, articulate, and willing to mentor young players. Thanks, Juwan, for a great season… and good luck in Miami!

I love old man river.

I’m sad to see him go. But after the effort he put forth playing that many minutes for a injured Blazers front line he deserves the ring he’ll get with the Heat. Cheers to you Howard, you will be missed.

“really though I hope he gets more crap than Steve Blake”

That is moronic. Blake was traded by Portland. The guy has a skill and he found someone willing to hire him, it happened to be the Lakers. Exactly what is wrong with that?

Similar situation with regard to Juwan Howard.

“It’s simply impossible for me to root against Juwan Howard after what he did in Portland last season. But I can’t root FOR LeBron James”

No problem. I will be rooting for Juwan to do well, and also Blake and Webster.

I will be rooting for LeBron to do badly.

I will be rooting for Miami and the Lakers to lose.

by lsjogren on Jul 24, 2010 6:53 AM PDT reply actions

I bet Blake, Webster will not play well here in Portland! So in a way Blake will help the Lakers lose.

Juwann will be fine probably..can’t imagine nerves getting to him.
Also this may be his last year as a player. So hope he does well regardless.
Maybe he will return as an asst. coach. Did you notice the Blazers hired only 3 coaches to replace 4 ????
I’d like to see Juwann return.
