I Saw Desmond Mason in Portland Today

Hey, y'all. Since every basketball website is full of innuendo and out the other right now, I figure I should throw my tiny piece of information into the universe for everyone to speculate wildly about.

I work at a restaurant in SE Portland and today I saw Desmond Mason roll in with what I assume is his lady. He might have just been on vacation and wanted some good grub, but I believe he had other reasons for visiting Portland.

Perhaps he would like to be reunited with Nate.

I think he lives here in the off-season.

Every year he works out with the other Blazers still in town. I also was thinking that he would be a player that wanted to be here. Udoka would be another.

I could see getting Udoka for cheap in case we needed him.

As others noted

Desmond Mason lives in Portland because his wife is from the area.

These posts used to be a lot more regular (the “I saw Desmond Mason in Portland, are we trading for him?” or “Desmond Mason lives in Portland so we should trade for him” type post) so it makes me nostalgic to see one now.

He is a guy who was a great athlete who never learned or developed the skills needed to be an NBA wing after his athleticism fades. Well, sadly, it has faded. He wouldn’t be the worst 14th/15th player on a roster, useful for practices and stuff, but he’s a severely limited NBA player now.

Portland fans have traditionally loved him though, because of his connections to the city. There used to be a post every month about how we gotta get him.
