Rich Cho to be named portland trailblazers general manager.
a
Oregon live just posted this morning.
"Rich Cho will be the next general manager of the Trail Blazers, The Oregonian has learned.
The Oklahoma City Thunder assistant general manager interviewed with the team last week in Las Vegas and will be named today. Known as a young and bright executive who has degrees in engineering and law, Cho replaces Kevin Pritchard, who was fired on June 24."
Personally, i this this is a great move and i think now, we will be able to get more done, get organized and be ready for the season. Plus, OKC has a good team and he has help put that together, and since he has no experience, and still got hired, he must know something.

I like Cho
Seems to have a decent upside to his game.
You think
That PA would have a better picture than the one on The Blazers website. Looks like a geek, oh wait he is a geek. Just a really really rich one.

he looks really really happy!

^^ Good link -- required reading.
The Mike Barrett interview is worth reading too. Also, if anybody has missed it before, this SI.com article has some more Cho info:

Comes for J-Quick. Sounds like this might be a great hire and I think he will be a combo of Penn and KP.
Now time to see what we can get for Rudy.

Solid hire
Worth the wait.

Nothing shuts up a worrywart.
They’re sort of like the Spanish Inquisition in that way, only EVERYONE expects them.
Nah.
They’re still getting paid to write columns in the Oregonian.

I was holding out for Hat-Guy,
but will settle for Cho.

Someone tell me how to feel about this
It’s funny how invested we get in the front office machinations that we never actually see in action (except the output). Cho sounds ok to me though, if only because I like the young genius GM prototype, and I really like the way OKC was rebuilt. The output there reflects well on whoever in the front office was engineering it.
Someone tell me how to feel about this
You should feel great about this. Cho was likely the best candidate available. He was my first choice. I have no qualms with having him instead of KP.

Welcome to the Rich Cho era
by Sexual Tyrannosaurus on Jul 19, 2010 10:21 AM PDT reply actions
That's because you'd want to go with "Rich-slapped"
But, as I said above, let’s not. The use of that term by fans is part of what contributed to the myth of KP as an egomaniac, even though he hated it himself.
CHOke Hold?
I wont even touch the chicken reference…

Fenster: Flip you. Flip ya for real.

Poor Ben is stuck on a plane while the news is breaking
Wasn’t he on a plane another time recently when there was big Blazer news? Ben should fly more often.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
thanks i wasn't aware...
that KP was fired a while back. i always appreciate the redundant repeating of the obviouse so that those of us who are slow can have the perspective to understand why someone like cho is being hired.
ps good luck dude
Fantastic news.
So much for not being able to get good hires after the politics and drama of the past six months. He was my top realistic choice (top unrealistic choices were Presti and Buford).

I realize that not everyone will think Cho is the best choice
But I’d love to hear why. Why don’t you like him, and who would you have preferred?
Still on the Rex bandwagon.

Its feels like a lateral move at best. I am a KP guy, I’d rather he was never fired. What has Cho done in the nba that Pritchard hasnt? I don’t dislike Cho or anything, I was just hoping for somebody with experience piecing together a contender, which is the one thing that KP hasnt proven he can do. Basically, I am still bitter about the KP situation.
Blazersedge, keeping haterade in business for years
So were you hoping for Pfund?
I could have lived with that, as much as I prefer Cho, but I really wanted someone from the new era of basketball analysis. Cho gives us that, while the Pfund types give us what I think is an outdated, less useful approach.
As far as being bitter about KP, I know some people still are, but it would be nice to be able to tease that apart from this new hire.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.

phew
I was worried when Quick was the only source, but the letters from the team make it actually official.
Anyway, I’m down with this. Maybe we’ll sign on Griffin as Assistant GM and have a new teamup of young up-and-comers to replace Pritchard and Penn? Wouldn’t mind having an old hand with connections either (Pfund comes to mind, if he’d be ok with an assistant role). Still, Cho seems like a great choice for GM.
He's a Northwest man! Yes!
Love it when we get Northwest guys on our team, especially since we’re IN the NW.
The unspoken benefit here is
Taking him away from what will likely be our toughest rival for the next decade, the Thunder. Pfund was probably my second choice, but he’s old school, and he’s just floating around right now.
No more Pfund, Pfund, Pfund

Way to deliver for us PA.
And for all the hate on Larry Miller, he did conduct a pretty thorough search and came out with the right guy.
Bat88m
today i shook cho's hand,
“I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue.
“I was able to get a sense of his soul.
“He’s a man deeply committed to THE TRAILBLAZERS and the best interests of THE TRAILBLAZERS and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that’s the beginning of a very constructive relationship,”
The braces are sweet too.
He should’ve waited until he got fired since i"m sure 90 percent of the fans will kick his teeth in as he gets the pink slip from Paul Allen once it is discovered he is spy for Kim Jong Ill. I’m ronely.
