Eggers: Larry Miller Says Griffin And Mullin Are "On Our Radar"
Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune writes...
--------------------------------
Miller says David Griffin, the former senior VP/basketball operations in Phoenix, and ex-Golden State GM Chris Mullin "are on our radar," but wouldn’t say whether either will be interviewed for the Portland position.
Former Blazer coach Mike Dunleavy and ex-Blazer players and executives Jim Paxson and Dave Twardzik evidently are not on the radar of the team’s brain trust.
--------------------------------
Griffin was first mentioned here back in June. As for Mullin? This can't be life.
Update (2:56PM): David Aldridge writes on NBA.com that Kevin Pritchard is getting a look in New Orleans.
--------------------------------
The sources said that team president Hugh Weber met with Warren LeGarie, Pritchard's agent, to talk about the opening, created when the Hornets fired Jeff Bower on Tuesday. Pritchard worked in Portland with new coach Monty Williams.

but Gingers are great!
like Ginger Rogers, or I’ve heard of Ginger Lynn, though not seen her myself oh no.
Thank goodness we have Miller
I love how thorough he is being on this search. I’m glad he takes it serious.
Me Too
i’ve heard he always takes the summer off and then works himself into shape during the season. i’m thinking he’ll be in shape for camp this year and pass Nate’s test.

Awe you dawg
You know I love my boy, ’Dre. No player in the history of the NBA has dedicated more of his time, dare I say life, to the game of basketball and to improving his game. But I was talking about Larry Miller.
LeGarie Watch 2010 is on!
If David Griffin comes to town, his agent won’t be far behind!
Watch out Portland, power-grab coming soon to a theater near you!

agreed
I would be disappointed if we get Mullin. I think Cho is at the top of my list.

I heard he was a Communist...
oh wait, that was Steve Nash.
Yet another reason Nash > CP3.

Has the ESPN Trade Machine had a formal interview yet? I’m pretty sure it was a close assistant to Mullin when he put that amazing Golden State roster together.
The Blazers finally hired a GM!
It’s the Trade Machine.
Vulcan has put together a special team to poke away until a trade involving Pendergraph, Williams, Miller and a washing machine (it worked in “Semipro”) for Chris Paul is successful.
Stealth > Wealth
Agree
I love Griffin, but I don’t like the baggage his agent will bring. Cho feels dirty because he’s coming from THAT team, but anything that hurts ’em, I guess.
Hate the retreads like Pfund and Ferry. We need someone who knows how to build through the draft to keep us competitive for years to come.
Yep.
The ‘retreads’ are exactly that. They only thing they have going for them is experience, and there’s no upside that I can see. They’d be solid at best.
Whereas the young guys (Cho/Griffin) are to some extent quants, and will be more cognizant of working in a small market and building in the sustainable San Antonio-type model.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
lol
Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one that likes THAT team.
by hoodieNation on Jul 15, 2010 1:31 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
If I lived in Oklahoma City, I'd love 'em.
But a) they screwed Seattle and b) they’re our main competition for the next 5-10 years in the WC. So I can’t like them.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
THAT team
can only mean L.A.
The Thunder, though I am super jealous of all the attention they get, are not nearly as hated as L.A.
Completely disagree
Hate the Lakers all you want, but we usually stand toe to toe with them and get media love when we play them. Also, what have they done to us in the last few years? I’m not envious of them and they’ve built a winner and have a guy (Pau Gasol) who I like, regardless of the team he plays on. I never understood the irrational Laker hate, they don’t play in our division anymore, the WCF choke was OUR fault (actually Dunleavy’s) and it happened over 10 years ago now. Time to move on.
The “Thunder” are an abomination that took away our beautiful Pacific Northwest rivalry with Seattle and stuck it out in BFE where the guy who is making us look foolish for taking Oden over him is getting propelled to heights of media love that only Kobe/Lebron/Wade get. AND they play in our division and will likely be our top competitor in the WC and division for years to come, especially once Phil Jackson is gone and Kobe gets old. I can’t stand THAT team. Way more than the Lakers.

It's like this...
Texas has The Alamo.
Oregon has Game 7 of the 2000 WCF.
It really is that simple. I hear the legislature is considering passing legislation that will require the police to stop anyone wearing Lakers gear, and if they can’t prove that they are an Oregon resident they will be deported.
Like the Whos down in Whoville they did it without boxes or ribbons or bows, they did without centers or posting down low. They won without All-Stars and Spaniards and Frenchmen. They won with old geezers and sub-par defense-men. They won playing rookies from deep off the benches. They won with their grit and their guts in the trenches. And some who observed them have been known to say that their hearts grew three sizes (at least!) on the way. One hopes with their poise and their passion now proven that once they are healthy their game will be groovin'. -- Dave

If they ARE an Oregon resident.
Then they’ll be strung up on the Made in Oregon sign during Saturday Market where they will be pelted with organic hummus and cans of PBR.

sounds to me like you hate Clay Bennett, not the actual team
where as I hate the actual team of the Lakers, not Jerry Buss
Clay Bennett owns the team
And I don’t much care for the team either. They’re not as hateable as the Thuggets or the Jazz, but just wait until they get a bit more physical (that last game of the season was proof of what’s coming) and we’ll see this rivalry get pretty sick.
The Lakers dynasty is coming to a close. They’ll be what the Spurs are now in a couple years. Kobe and Pau are 31 and 30 respectively, so they’ll likely only go downhill from here. Their young players are crap and Odom is likely to leave soon as well.
Come oooon, guys--show some love!
I mean, Mullin already has his own wrist watch with local distribution and everything!
Wait. No. That was Tom Peterson.

I Dont Care Who Is On The Radar
Just hire someone already!!!
We should have a GM in place the day after KP was fired, since everyone knew it was coming about 2 months ago.
yeah lets just go get Isiah Thomas already
by hoodieNation on Jul 15, 2010 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions
nobody wants to work in Blazers...
the way they treat KP like that, i guess it will hard for blazers to hire a very talented and proven GM.
If this is an issue, then PA and Miller need to come out
and explain exactly why KP was let go.

You don't trade a big for a small
Who will we have that can generate offense against bigs? Oden’s proving to be more valuable defensively, Aldridge is the go-to guy there. As long as LMA doesn’t have to be the main scorer, he’s very capable.
It doesn't factor in scrappiness.
Also, no way in hell would Charlotte do it.

Theory on hiring methodology.
1. Larry Miller is being coy. Their original intention was to hire the first guy they really liked, and had not originally intended to interview a bunch of dudes.
2. Danny Ferry was Plan A, Randy Pfund was Plan B.
3. Danny wanted too much autonomy.
4. Randy Pfund is an old timer and refused to play Moneyball.
5. They’re gonna hire Cho but are dancing with other names because they don’t want point 1 to be obvious after-the-fact.

One thing's for sure ...
Miller says [tweedle dee] and [tweedledum] “are on our radar”
The Blazers should hire somebody like Yogi Berra to be the GM; i.e., somebody capable of coining new sports cliches. For example, why doesn’t anybody say that so-and-so is “on our sonar”?

Barkley
Would be perfect. He says crazy stuff all the time, especially when he talks about the Trailblazers.
no love for Dunleavy??
Why no love for Mike? He shouldn’t be held responsible for time under the Clips.
Great basketball mind.

If I'm Kevin Pritchard, I'd avoid a New Orleans Hornets franchise run by George Shinn, his kid Chad, and ...
brother-in-law Hugh Weber. Unless Shinn sells that franchise, it’s not a place for a GM who wants autonomy.
true,
but the Hornets actually need to move CP3 for prospects. W/ their extremely limited corporate base, I’d go Money Ball, and/or move the team to Seattle.
He’s George Shinn, what could they possibly say that hasn’t been said?

So current state not all his doing – but I have to agree

Mullin would be great, as a role model to Babbitt to show him what he could become. As a GM, please no.
Well said.
Anyone have a picture of Mullin looking super pale with the Tom Peterson flat top that I remember him sportin’ from back in the day?

Blake Griffin?!
I read the title and for a second assumed we were aiming to get the center for the clips. That would be a whole new scenario. I should have just not posted this.
