RUDY FERNANDEZ: "MY FIRST CHOICE WOULD BE TO PLAY WITH BARCA AND RUBIO."
"Though Rudy Fernandez was not dealt on NBA Draft Day and appears to be staying put with his team, it may be that his days with the Portland Trail Blazers are numbered: He has reportedly "fallen out of favor with coach [Nate] McMillan," Wesley Matthews has joined the Blazers, and Fernandez is now "officially" getting shopped around."
This could be a shoddy source (it is an espn affiliate), i just came across it randomly...but dated today.

That's the first red flag
The Bleacher report isn’t a real news source. It’s like fanposts on BE. The Bleacher report article is also 3 weeks old.
The second is that the original article says, “Wesley Matthews has joined the Blazers.” This article is in no way reliable.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.

More Euro News using out of context quotes, or just plain lying.
What is more disappointing is that the herd mentality here has taken over.
When Rudy could do no wrong, such murmurs would be dismissed.
Now that he can do no right, they are being taken way too seriously.
Knocking Rudy for his poor play last year = reasonable.
Knocking Rudy for tabloid journalism coverage = stupid.

Yup
Really that’s the story with most blazer “fans” I have EVER met (hating Jack, Frye, Outlaw and now Martell) for really NO REASON other than they didn’t play to the expectations of what they thought he should be).
The counter guy at my local convenience store wanted to stone me for wearing a New Orleans hat when I usually wear a Zers hat. When I mentioned how getting rid of Martell was the last straw for me and that I am now rooting for players rather than teams (CP3) he said, “Martell was garbage.”
then I said “what about Blake, he just signed with the BEST TEAM in the NBA?”
“Blake was garbage”
Rudy will be a totally valuable role player somewhere, if he decides to stay here, but part of the problem is that alot of fans had put him on this pedestal like he was going to be the second coming of Drazen Petrovic, when really he’s probably more like Toni Kukoc. In the end we (and Rudy himself) should understand that his waifish size and inability to create quality shots off the dribble show that he can only be used as a back up PG or shooting guard against teams that aren’t playing a PG/SG that’s over 6’5 and over 180lbs. I mean seriously, if you saw him on the street you’d be blown away by how skinny he is.
That said, we are human. And it hurts when someone (Rudy, Turkoglu’s wife) doesn’t want to be in our town so we want to kick his butt on the way out. Well kick away I guess.

I'm still a blazer fan
I am just in mourning and this is my pathetic and feeble way to stick the middle finger to all the ‘fans’ who are blind to how crappy the ownership of our team is. But yes, there will be a moratorium to all my blazers fitteds I own. I have taken the razor blade to my bumper stickers, and I will not go to a single homegame (for many many reasons besides this trade).

I'm even actually thinking about selling

Babbit is an improvement?
Martell did a decent job playing defense. Sure he got burnt by the stars like Melo, Bron, Kobe. But who doesn’t? He has a 40inch vertical, and the dunks to prove it. He has a gorgeous jumpshot and a legit 3pt threat. And he was a stand up guy. We gave him up for Babbitt. Why? A star from the WAC? A crap team from the WAC?

Yeah right.
Bayless is touted by his PER, but you look at that guy and you see someone who has a streaky jump shot ( how could you have a dependable j with NO ARCH…just MJ), and very few assists. What are the best three assets to a point guard: shooting/dribbling and assists (decision making/unselfishness). Defense is a close fourth (footspeed, steals). Is Nash a great defender? Who would argue that Nash isn’t a great PG? But it’s still those 3 that are the most important in my opinion. Blake has all 2.5. I’m not so sure about decision making when he has 5s on the clock. Defense…not so much. So who is the best back up PG in the league? I’d like to know.
slimkim
first off, i would hardly call defense 4th
rondo is considered a top 5 pg in the league, yet he is a horrible shooter and makes his name off defense.
bayless and blake had similar assist pct. and shooting pct.
as for other backup pgs,
kyle lowry, he is a worse shooter, but gets more assists, has a higher assist pct. and is a terrific defender
goran dragic, he is a better shooter while having a slightly lower assist pct/
jarrett jack outdid blake in every category
.oh, and when i said blake was garbage to me, I meant that’s how I felt about him since he signed with the lakers, but I think he is a decent player.

Yeah Memphis in the Greek league.
If you read my comments about Rudy after the playoffs I said, paraphrasing, it was one of the most low-down, despicable, mail-it-in performances I had recently seen and he should be drummed out of the NBA as fast as possible. Trevor Ariza did us all a favor by showing everyone just how unfit he is for the toughest basketball league in the world. His ultimate downfall wasn’t his big mouth, it was his inability to take a hit in a man’s league. Goodbye Rudy and try to keep your mouth shut on the way out.

That sort of over-the-top, hatefilled verbiage is not necessary
Rudy lost confidence last season due to injuries and through what he perceived as a lack of playing time. From a fans perspective we all say go out there and earn the minutes but for someone like Rudy who hasn’t had his skill or value as a player questioned during his career I imagine this would be tough to deal with. There is no evidence of Rudy pulling a Sergio and throwing the Blazers or Nate under the bus. I do think he wants to go back to Spain but I don’t blame him for that, especially seeing how much happier Carlos Navarro (his olympic team-mate) was when he went back.
Despite the fact that he has cost the TrailBlazers in terms of bargaining position for a trade because of these (often fabricated) reports, I would wish him well where ever he goes and remember him for the thrilling, joyful way he played in his rookie year – which I enjoyed watching immensely.

That's great for you
I will remember him for quitting on his team on the court of the major championship tournament of the highest and best basketball league in the world. LeBron did it against Boston and it was just as revolting. The only thing that made me more disgusted last season was seeing Nate Robinson take a shot at the opponents basket. All three of those players were saying the same thing to their teams and fans – get me the hell away from you. Yes, my verbiage may be over-the-top but to call me hate filled is just a little trite for a sports blog, and factually false. However, I’m sure you could convince one of the more sensitive moderators to sanction me for my hatred of Rudy given the undeserved love of Rudy in this town. My wish is Bedgers would take a closer look at players and performances more like horse flesh or pumpkins, instead of blind Blazer worship.

I’m not irrational in my analysis of players but it certainly seems like you are when it comes to Rudy. You called his performance despicable and questioned his effort – there is no worse insult to a player than that so if you don’t hate Rudy then you might wanna tone it down.

The Griz fail all 3 of the items on Rudy’s wish list

He's painted himself into a corner.
He’s cut off his nose to spite his face.
His right hand didn’t know what his left hand as doing.
But really, I’m certain the Blazers aren’t in a giving or forgiving state when it comes to Rudy. He’s become a poster child for spoiled, pampered and ungrateful pro athletes and sadly he’s a Blazer for a few more days. This is a situation where you keep him away from the team and facilities at all costs until you can dump somewhere as filler or cut him to open a roster spot. Oh, and you hope he keeps his mouth closed till it’s over.
There are also some lessons in our recent experiences with Euro draft and Euro stash players that will affect Blazer choices in the future. I expect the new regime will think harder before buying or choosing any new Euro draft picks.
keep him away from the team and facilities at all costs until you can dump
I don’t know if I’d go that far, he’s not a potential cancer like Darius Miles could’ve been. OTOH, I think the Blazers have made it pretty clear that they don’t see Rudy in their future plans, so I’d be surprised if either Fernandez or the team is expecting him to return to Portland this fall, unless it’s wearing a different team’s uniform
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
we dumped a 20/10 guy for nothing (Z Bo)
so yeah, I can definitely see us dump Rudy for a loss. I think the former ex-Blazer was more of a loss though. Zbo , Roy, Aldridge and Oden. Not a bad squad. Sure, a few more local pitbulls would be endangered, but who wants pitbulls to exist anyway.

It'll be easy
Bulls, Suns & Knicks all seem like extremely viable options. I think he’ll probably be traded for a draft pick, which is too bad. Viva Espana!

Agreed, it’s such a waste of a once-valuable asset. But a lot of that is on Paul because KP could’ve traded Rudy back at the deadline for a better return

Rudy had a HORRIBLE year, and whined as if he deserved more.
That’s why people turned sour on him. If he said things like “I need to work hard to overcome my injuries for next year” people would still love him.
I think if he quits talking to the media
backs up roy, plays some backup sf in a pinch, cashes his checks and waits until he’s a FA he’ll get onto a decent team. But he needs to prove himself this year like he did his rookie season or people are going to forget about him…

Too bad it couldn't have worked out.
I blame Blaze….and Tony Luftman.
"What people need to know is that those pictures were taken a year and a half ago, and I've grown since then." - Greg Oden
yeah, too many of rudy quotes are being taken out of context.
if he were to leave the blazers, that would be his first choice. if he were to get traded to another nba team, he would would only want to get traded if it is to a contender and he would get more playing time. that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is demanding a trade. i’m sure if you asked any player on the blazers roster about being traded, they would want to be traded a contender and would want more playing time.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

passive agressive
No, Rudy has never publicly “demanded” a trade, but he played like he didn’t care last spring and that sends up automatic red-flags to other NBA teams. They’re asking his agent “would Rudy be happy playing for us?” and his agent is giving them the thumbs up/down based on market size and PT opportunity
how Blazer fans can continue to still have Rudy’s back in light of these allegations is beyond me
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I think you´re right, but Rudy was happy in Portland before things went wrong since January and he decided he didn´t fit in Portland..
I could see this coming from far. This is the comment I wrote then:
“Rudy behind Bradon Roy, Bayless and Blake.
The End.
by amlmart1 on Feb 2, 2010 5:41 AM CET actions"
Rudy didn´t give up in the play offs. He gave up since Nate put him behind Blake and Bayless, when in his mind he was at least no less than Roy´s back up. He probably went to Nate and told him why are you putting me behind Blake and Bayless. Nate give his explanations, you´re coming out of an injury and everything. Rudy probably said: you wouldn´t do this to Roy. And Nate answered: You are NOT Roy. That´s why Rudy gave that awkward answer to a journalist: “I´M NOT ROY”.
At that time he was in a bad state of mind too, becauce he had gone through back surgery, probably afraid of his future for a while, still losing money playing in Portland, etc, etc.
Forbidden to forbid!
Thanks for the clarification
I remember your fanpost at the time “The beginning of the end” that explained how Rudy’s family and girlfriend left PDX when Fernandez was “passed over” for a chance to start at SG back when Roy hurt his hammy. (Nate probably felt that the bench unit needed Ruyd’s scoring and put Jerryd in the starting lineup, instead. There’s no way of knowing what the coaching staff was thinking at the time re: the lineup choice, the team was in survival mode, and not thinking about catering to any player’s feelings)
It was probably unfair for me to say that Rudy “quit” during the playoffs, he clearly lost confidence and agressiveness to shoot open shots when the team needed him the most, and this is enough for most Blazer fans to start looking for an alternative at backup SG. Always remember, the playoffs >>> regular season as far as a NBA player’s reputation goes. If the player is healthy and doesn’t “show up” (mentally tough, etc) then he’s not going to be highly regarded by fans or the media (Travis Outlaw was in a similar position after the 2009 post season, etc)
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I've seen the Spanish report where this is from, and it's NOT A DIRECT RUDY QUOTE
It wasn’t even in quotation marks.
At best, it’s citing a source from his environment. His only direct statement this week was very much along the lines of “I have a contract with Portland” that we have heard before. That he would like to have a more defined role and return to Spain if Portland and no other NBA team wants to increase his role is no new development.
“Aún tengo contrato con Portland, pero, una vez están colocadas las estrellas de la NBA, habrá que estar pendiente del mercado”, decía ayer en Ibiza Rudy Fernández, a diez días del inicio de la concentración de la selección con vistas al Mundial.
To get a more positive vibe about Rudy again, go watch this instead. This is something he really did and said last week. http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/7/13/1567483/video-from-rudys-trip-to-egypt-for
