Ryan Gomes: forever a Blazer in our hearts.

Jason Quick was on 95.5 at noon

he said that Portland is going to put on the full court press to acquire CP3, and only Brandon is untouchable

return your trays to their upright positions, in the even of a water landing, your seat cushions will serve as flotation devices

Doube they'd want LMA either

he has a big contract and they got West.

they could ask for Greg though… (but didn’t Quick say Brandon and Greg are untouchable?)

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

Just heard the deal is about the same as before and they want Babbit included with the deal .

it would open up us signing a legit 3 gaurd and bring outlaw back for cheap to be with his buddy BROY.

by VWBLAZERGUY85 on Jul 1, 2010 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

ok so who

who would be that 3 maybe Richard Jefferson?

by BLAZERS#52 on Jul 1, 2010 2:12 PM PDT up reply actions

J-Chillin'!!!

CP3, BRoy, J-Chill, LMA, GO. Best starting lineup in the league, unless Miami signs the Big 3 and Haywood.

by HailOden! on Jul 1, 2010 4:59 PM PDT up reply actions

now that would make sense

the Hornets told Portland who they wanted in the draft to make the CP3 deal feasible and so the Blazers went out and got him

it’s all about putting the best package together, it’s not like no other teams aren’t in the CP3 discussions

I just hope that Batum can stay out of the deal, but I’ll bet Monty is pushing hard for Frenchy

This just bothers me a little because we'd be giving up Babbit and Batum and Webster

No real 3 anymore. Other than that….

Byron Scott and CP3 are close friends

so if LBJ stays in Cleveland, Chris Paul could be joining him

and the Blazers would be back to square one

we should know in about 5 days, when LeBron makes up his mind. Blazer fans should be rooting that another team blows him away (unless they’re in the western conference…)

What about

Chicago. . .
I was thinking about them sending Rose to NO and get CP3 to team with LBJ.

didn’t Quick say Brandon and Greg are untouchable?

Jason only mentioned Roy, he said he thought Nic was the final hoold-up when the 2 teams were negotiating last week, but Portland (Allen) signed off on including Batum, but the decision was too late and NOLA backed out until after the draft

if the Hornets told the Blazers to select Babbitt then the draft makes a little more sense, to me

and the only other competition is NJ and NYK I like our chances. Although NJ has some stuff to offer.

by Escrote on Jul 1, 2010 1:40 PM PDT reply actions

They got lots of cap room

Knicks could do Gallinari for CP3+Okafor.

Sounds crazy, but it would save the Hornets $100 million (according to Chad Ford)

you can't dump a top-5 player in the league just for money

you have to get back some semblence of prospects. Portland has a lot to offer there, plus expirings.

NJ probably has the best hand of the 3 teams, as they can offer both immediate cash savings AND some talent.

yeah, i hear ya

rumor is the Nets have a trade lined up for Humphries. If LBJ signs on with them, they dump Humphries and sign whatever other Max FA LeBron wants to get.

the Knicks are the ones who are going to be left standing around with no one to dance with. Bosh or Boozer to Miami along with Wade. The other goes to NJ or Chicago. LBJ goes to NJ, Chi, or Cleveland. Knicks end up with Amare, but apparently they are begging Joe Johnson to hold off for now, in which case they could go with him and a resigned David Lee

by dan_the_man on Jul 1, 2010 1:47 PM PDT via mobile reply actions   1 recs

Well, we can...

But we’d have to send another largish contract, like LA..which should be still large even with his BYC status.

But, NO would be significantly over the cap with that move and they’re not doing any moves that send them over the cap.

I’m not sure but I don’t think we can send out Camby as a part of a package deal, yet. But, that’s another large contract (and shorter than Okafor’s which would be attractive to NO)

ok

so i would gladly do Miller+Przy+Oden then look at this line up

CP3/Bayless/Williams
Roy/Rudy/Johnson
Batum/Babbit/dante
LMA/Pendy
Camby/Okafor

then do we still have our money to spend on a free agent to sign maybe a 4 or a 5 to get more depth at those positions?

What do you guys think?

by BLAZERS#52 on Jul 1, 2010 2:21 PM PDT reply actions

i dont know i thought that was the original deal i guess we would have to throw in some money, nope according to real gm it works http://www.realgm.com/src_tradechecker/3/

by BLAZERS#52 on Jul 1, 2010 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions

One key thing to remember about CP3..

Larry Miller is close friends with Paul and his family. If there are several deals on the table and Paul gets a choice, Miller could be the deciding factor in negotiations. Players do have power in these scenarios sometimes. Also, Portland’s expiring contracts do appeal to teams that are desperate for financial relief.

by JAWKS on Jul 1, 2010 2:23 PM PDT reply actions

Monty was not the head coach when the first offers were being made, right?

Do you think he’d increase the value of Batum since he knows how good the kid can be? I wonder if the opposite might be true with LMA where people outside Portland may value him more than we do.

Bring back the Uncle Cliffy!

by hawkblogger on Jul 1, 2010 2:35 PM PDT reply actions

Probably not. Monty wants to keep his job. I doubt he approves of any deal involving Paul.

But you’re right, maybe he can vouch for Batum. But who knows, maybe he doesn’t think Batum is going to be a star.

by Rudy4three on Jul 1, 2010 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions

I remember hearing that he once got on Brandon for not shooting well enough and told him to work on his shot.

WE WILL NOT GET CP3!!!

I wish we could. Extremely high on Batum but its still a no-brainer with CP3.

But we won’t get him.

NJN or NYK can offer young rookie contracts and A MONSTROUS TRADE EXCEPTION for taking CP3-if they need they can take okafor too. NOH then ends up with a combo of savings & flexibility to apply that savings to take players off other teams’ hands for free.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".

I still think the Hornets have to sell their fan base on immediately talent coming back

“hey fans, we just traded away a top 5 NBA player for Danillo Gallinari. But don’t worry, we might get some other players 6 months from now in the deal too. Or we might not. We’ll just have to wait and see”

Yeah, that should get the fans through the turnstiles…

At least our package was 3 starters, another rotation player, and a draft pick. That’s something you can PR sell day 1.

I would love to pull Nic out of that deal

and insert any combo of Pendergraph, Babbitt, Claver, Williams, Mills, etc

or even LMA (and then keep Marcus or Joel) if a 3rd team could be found to make the BYC work

that hypothetical LMA-Oden-Okafur big man rotation is one stepped-on-foot away from being weak sauce

now that the Blazers have offered Patty the QO, I’m thinking that Mill’s 937k could come in handy re: making the salaries match in a CP3 deal without Nic’s 1.2 mil being needed…hmm?

by two4larue on Jul 1, 2010 11:08 PM PDT up reply actions

It's Nic they want, not his low salary.

I’d like to get Nic out of deal too, but there’s no way NO does the deal without Nic’s high upside and cheap contract.

I sort of guessed you’d suggest giving up LMA to keep Marcus or Joel. (Man are you down on LMA.) But no way I’d do that. You can’t seriously think Marcus (who will retire in two years) or Joel is worth more than LMA. Besides they have David West and they don’t need Marcus or want his longer term contract.

2) The other twist on this, if it still isn’t enough, is to try to get Minn to play the 3rd team. We send Camby and Rudy (to help them lure Rubio from Spain) to Minn, and Minn sends Love to NO. We still get Okafor. NO is better off because they save more money and Love has a longer term future than Camby.

3) Or if Minn would rather have Okafor than Camby, we just send Rudy to Minn (and we keep Camby) and they swap Love for Okafor.

Either way the salaries all work out because Minn is under the cap.

by BlazerFanSince1970 on Jul 1, 2010 11:36 PM PDT up reply actions

You can’t seriously think Marcus (who will retire in two years) or Joel is worth more than LMA.

No, but finding rebounders and defenders like Joel and Marcus isn’t as easy as it looks, either. I was willing to put LMA into a hypothetical Tony Parker deal, so I might as well be consistent re: CP3 proposals. NOLA could find a new home for David West easily enough, if they really desire LMA’s youth and limitless potential…and all I’ve been hearing today is how affordable Aldridge’s contract now looks, in comparison to the latest FA signings.

Minnesota would be a likely trade partner to facilitate the deal, and something sinister inside of me feels like that’s the perfect place for Rudy to be banished, if not to the Wiz or the Knicks.
