Joel is officially extended into 10-11.
So, like many expected, Joel did not exercise his ETO. It is now official. There aren't any other posts regarding this, so I just wanted to put it out there.

I can't believe he didn't throw his hat into the FA ring!

As for the Blazers...They are officially the NBA equivalent of a movie serial killer

So we're probably gonna' use his contract for a trade?
THANK YOU KEVIN PRITCHARD

we will certainly try
if not this summer, then definitely around deadline time.

not if "we" want to compete for the finals, next June
but since the scouts are tageting kids with the MLE, I guess that goal has been pushed back a few years…so they might as well ditch Przy, Camby and Andre in Feb and keep the roster under 30
Brandon’s health is this team’s real championship window, and he won’t last forever. I thought Paul wanted to win now?

never say 'poop'
you never know what teams will be struggling come trade deadline. WHAT IF a player that we covet now is on an underachieving team ‘come trade deadline’ and we can get him for a couple expiring contracts and a young contributor? and if Oden can stay healthy, we all know that he is more important for the championship than B-Roy
disagree with your subject line a bit.
I don’t think trading Joel and competing for the NBA finals next June is necessarily an either/or thing.
For example, if roll into February with healthy and productive Oden and Camby, then move Joel as part of a package for an upgrade at the 1, a 6th man 3/2 backup, or a banging PF, then it very likely could increase our chance of competing deep into the playoffs, not reduce them, as whoever we get in the trade is likely going to contribute more for us in May then having Przy sitting on the bench will.
Obviously there are a lot of “ifs” there, and if either Greg or Marcus is hurt or playing poorly, then I would agree.

as we saw with Kendrick Perkins
that good center health in Feb is no indicator that the big man will make all the way to game 7 in June, and Greg/Marcus haven’t exactly been the picture of health throughout their careers
not to mention excess foul trouble that takes big men out of key stretches of big games
sigh…everyone thinks the grass will be greener after the big Przy trade…i’m just sayin’ “be careful what you wish for”

you either aren't reading me, or you just like to say the same thing over and over
Your subject line implies that trading Joel means we automatically have no chance to compete for a finals run. All I’m saying is that we don’t know that to be true or not. It’s not definately and either-or situation.
Nowhere did I say we should trade Joel or will trade Joel or that I want to trade Joel. But your assertion that trading Joel is akin to throwing away any and all chances at a finals run is absurd. I demonstrated how we COULD be MORE apt to make the finals by trading him then we MIGHT be by keeping him sitting on our bench. I have successfully refuted your subject-line assertion. IT IS POSSIBLE TO INCREASE OUR FINALS CHANCES WITHOUT BY TRADING JOEL, GIVEN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. Just the possibility of that being true invalidates your subject line assertion.
That is all I am saying here, no more, no less.

Congratulations for succesfully refuting my subject line assertion
you can check that one off your list
Any absolute statement can be proven wrong if the debater can present a single exception to the contrary, that’s never been a difficult task
But I’m not making absolute statements, you just read it that way. If the Blazers want to compete for the finals, they would be better off having depth at the 4-5. Dealing Przy away weakens the roster in a key area for playoff success. This has been my point for years, based on observation of NBA history (and the final’s game 7, this past month)
Did I say “if Joel is traded the Blazers cannot possibly reach the finals”? No, but that’s apparently the meaning that you read into it, judging by your outburst
For someone who claims to not have a dog in the fight, you sure come across as being sensitive. I guess I hit a nerve
FWIW, I wouldn’t mind it if Przy is included in a trade for CP3, but I would hope another big man (like Okafur) would be coming back Portland’s way. I do not want to enter the playoffs with only Oden-Camby-LMA-Pendergraph as the front court options (if possible) even if they’re all completely healthy. I suspect Greg and Jeff would struggle with foul trouble from game to game and Portland would eventually be defeated in the paint and on the scoreboard. Is that scenario too difficult to visualize?

if he hadn't got hurt, I bet he would have.
in this environment, locking in now on the old CBA, with a bunch of teams with cap space, would have been a smart move. Hey, if Darko can get 4 years, 20 million, how much could Joel have gotten?

I hear things about him being ready by training camp... how likely is that?

Okay I got the plan
Tell the Nets to max out, get LeBron this year, trade for Joel, and a bunch of expiring contracts, to pounce on Melo next year…
