Bench Players

Stay connected for news and updates

One of the things Casey and I discussed extensively in yesterday's podcast was the function and role of bench players.  We're going to throw the question out to you this afternoon.

1.  What do you look for in general in players coming off the bench?  What are the most important attributes that separate a suitable bench player from a less-suitable one or from a starter?  Are there different types of bench players and if so, what do they look like?

2.  Let's assume that Portland will start Oden, Aldridge, Batum, and Roy for the foreseeable future.  (Leave out the starting point guard spot for now.)  What kind of players do you want backing them up?  Which qualities should be prized?  Do you have any real-life NBA examples, either currently on Portland's roster or elsewhere?
