Ryan Gomes Appreciation Thread
Zzzzzzz…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...(tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet)…..ummmmmmm. Hmmmmm. Well... you were..... you know. Somethings just don't need to be said. (cricket, cricket, cricket). Some feelings don't have words... Mmmmmmm... yeah... We will..... and..... Uh. This is difficult because you meant so much to us. Good luck for the future. Wow... Gosh... geez.
We hardly knew you. Yet loved you so deeply. Once a Trailblazer. Always a Trailblazers. I love you deeply and will miss you!

I laughed so hard when I saw this thread
thank you
Marcus Camby was gaining energy again as the game wound to a close, much like a vampire sucking the life out of a dainty maiden. Amare Stoudemire, on the other hand, looked daintier and more maidenly with every possession.
We're here every Tuesday...come back to see us soon y'all...
you are welcome.

There was a point last year when I would have loved to have him

Me too..
Was that point when we were relying on a starting center who got the senior discount from Denny’s for breakfast before home games? I do love Juwan! I hope we bring him back.

back in... NBA 2k6?
I simulated a couple of Blazers seasons where I was acting as coach/GM. The owner demanded I slash payroll, so I dumped Darius Miles and Zach Randolph on the Knicks, but to make the trade more palatable I also had to toss in both Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw. I was in desperate need of a starting SF, so I picked up Ryan Gomes off the waiver wire.
Three years later or so, Roy, Aldridge, and Marcus Camby (a prescient signing!) lead us to the NBA finals, with the help of the best point guard of all time (literally, he had a 100 rating), who I picked up when I lucked into the #1 draft pick. Ryan Gomes was still starting SF—he had become the true glue guy of the team.
So thanks, Ryan Gomes. You played for the Blazers just as long as digital Ryan Gomes did, but you helped out, in your way.
Anyway, in the Finals, we lost to Lebron’s Knicks in five. The MVP of the Finals? Zach Randolph.

nope
He’s in 2k6, he’s rated a 63 though.

I love GM mode
All I do is trade for expiring contracts (and one rookie contract), then use mostly FAs for my team the following season. Keeps the team fresh and exciting.

this is all at once hillarious and disgusting.

he was a decent on/off waiver pickup for my fantasy team a couple years ago...

"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

oh god someone please put that on a shirt for me.

I miss the cute way he never had to arrive in Portland and pretend he'd be a part of the team.
Farewell, Ryan Gomes. You ain’t a bad player, but you’re a better contract.
Godspeed.

Oh the tragedy
of thinking about what Mr. Gomes could have meant to the organization, the youth of the city, and the lives represented by the BE community

from his twitter, sad
It’s been fun while it lasted in Minnesota. Wishing that franchise the best. Off to Portland with a new start. Ready to make a difference

I will never forget
When the Blazers left you wide open for a 3 to win a game this season and you barely missed it. Because you didn’t want to hurt us. Thank you.
"OK Kids! Who wants a basketball? That's why I love my Chevy Silverado."
Don't wanna hurt the sentiment
But we beat the Wolves by, like, 20 points each game.
Which game went down to the buzzer?

Of course I don't know but...
Maybe he’s thinking of this game season before last, where Gomes went off for 28 and the Wolves had a three point try to win the game but missed…though it was FOYE who took the shot, after Gomes had sunk one to pull them within one:

Lucas, the Blazers' other star, vows, "We're staying hungry. All of us know what it's like to get blowed out. We want to keep doin' the blowin'."
^This one
Sorry, I don’t remember much from this past season at the moment, I’m consciously wiping it from my brain. I remember Andre’s 52 and his dunk, and Oden being awesome, but much of it went by in a blur.
I think it was Foye. I remember thinking of some sort of irony. Thanks!
Gomes went for 28? Yikes. Thanks for not getting 30, Gomes.
"OK Kids! Who wants a basketball? That's why I love my Chevy Silverado."
Good find and nice stat lines too.
Brandon Roy scored 31 points
LaMarcus Aldridge had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Travis Outlaw had 14 points and nine rebounds and Nicolas Batum added 12 points and six rebounds for the Blazers, winners of 11 straight at home and eight in a row over Minnesota.
GIGGITY! I can’t wait for more Blazers Basketball.

What I liked...
He never complained about playing time.
My favorite Ryan Gomes Blazer Memory....
Well I was in 7-11 just the other day, and I saw this guy that kind of looked like Ryan Gomes (if you squinted) getting a Slurpy. So I said, “Hey, you remind me of Ryan Gomes. Would sign this napkin?”.
He just gave me a dirty look and quickly left the store.
Good Times, really good times.

if gomes salary was a bit less
i reckon he could have been a good guy off the bench, ah well good luck to him whereever he ends up
He really would be a very good bench player.
He’s always positive, he has a good shot, and once in a while, he can start playing tremendously. A couple times per season, he has a game where he’s driving, scoring amazing layups, and nobody can stop him. I realize that’s not very often, but he can play very well especially when he’s trying harder.
Does anyone want to join an NBA Sim League? It’s simulated on NBA 2k10. You get to be the GM of an NBA team (Portland’s open) and make trades, sign free agents, draft players, etc.
