It seems to me that any trade with the Spurs for Parker is going to be centered around getting Batum. I think they also like Rudy, but Nic is the central piece. As it turns out, Nic+Rudy+JPEC is enough to get Parker. I'm sure Portland would have to add some cash and a future consideration, but I think they could get this done.
The ensuing problem is of course the fact that Portland then has nobody to start at SF and TWO starting caliber PG's. Seems to me there is a team in the Eastern Conference that has a two-time All-Star SF being shopped for a starting PG. Danny Granger baby!
Unfortunately, Miller and Bayless aren't enough salary (or talent) to pry Granger away from them. But you know what? If they have some faith in local boy Oden and send back Jeff Foster, it works.
Both of these deals would have to wait until July 1 due to Przybilla's opt-out clause and Granger's BYC.
Do you think Granger could be had for Miller+Bayless+Oden (plus taking back Foster's contract)? And do you think that's a fair price? While Portland would still need to address a long term young Center, and probably sign a free agent backup combo guard (is Antonio Daniels still playing?), they look pretty impressive:
PG - Parker, Daniels?, Williams
SG - Roy, Daniels?, Johnson
SF - Granger, Babbitt, Cunningham
PF - Aldridge, Cunningham, Gomes
C - Camby, Foster, Pendergraph
It's a whole different look. We're giving up a lot in the middle to get a MUCH better offensive starting 5.
Poll
If the other teams were interested, would you do this?
Heck Yes!!! The BIG FOUR of Parker, Roy, Granger and Aldridge would DOMINATE the league!!! (34 votes)
No way! Portland gives up too much by trading Nic, Greg, Rudy and Dre. (136 votes)
Meh... It's a lateral move, so it doesn't matter. The team isn't any better, just... different. (33 votes)
