I'm not recommending this
But is a Ryan Gomes for Michael Beasley trade a possibility? Miami want's to clear cap space and I think Gomes salary matches up and is only partially guaranteed. It'd give portland a backup power forward with potential, and I'm assuming who ever runs this team now is no longer interested in character issues. If not do you think we'll keep Gomes or just send him on his way and save PA some money?

Why the assumption that whoever runs the team now is no longer interested in character issues?
KP was brought in partly for the purpose of addressing them, and every indication seems to have pointed at that addressing them as being a directive from higher up (possibly even PA). Having said that, I tend to think that Beasley’s character issues are worth the risk in this case. He sought help after Twittergate, and given the talent at hand, it’s worth at least doing some research and seeing if he’s progressed since then.
I can understand the argument against putting two “head cases” in the same locker room, but I don’t realistically seeing a combination of Miller and Beasley destroying the team chemistry, as strong as it’s been given the adversity the Blazers battled through last season.
Of course, I think that the chances of Miami agreeing to this trade are about the same as the Timberwolves winning the NBA Title next year, but…

I think Miami would love to dump Beasely for cap space.
Then get 3 max guys and dominate the world forever.
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
So they can, what, play three on twelve all season long?
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

sign a bunch of minimum salary guys, including vets
then in another year they have the MLE, etc (assuming those survive the next CBA)

True, but there's a world of difference between shadiness behind closed doors
And a player being arrested. A good percentage of the reasoning behind the character issue stuff is PR (i.e. the team’s “contract” with fans), and the Miller stuff won’t turn off your average Oregon family man the way players getting caught with drugs and guns would.
Good point, though.

If Portland is trying to get Beasley
to be part of a later trade, then go for it.
Otherwise, no way….

I don't want Beasley on this team.
But I would like to see the Gomes contract used to pull an asset or two from one of the cap-clearing teams (NJ, Chicago, whatever).
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
u guys r missing it
gomes can help this team..he is one of the most underrated players in the NBA plus being a Providence College grad like myself goes a long way…he kills it every time he’s played in the rose garden too! ….i’d love for somebody to look up his stats at the rose garden……anyone….

The beauty of Gomes contract...
Each year is only partially guaranteed.
So he is valuable right now, because the next three years can be bought out for $2.75 million.
Guess what? Next summer, he is even MORE attractive because the remaining two years can be bought out for $1.75 million.
And the summer after that? $$750k.
So unless he is NEEDED in a deal (unlikely because he cannot be bundled with another player), you hold onto him. By the deadline, he will be able to be packaged with another player. So you keep him for now and see how much he helps. If he is no longer necessary, or his salary is key to a deal, then you pull the trigger.
By the way, next summer on draft day (if there are no further trades before then), Portland will have JPEC, Gomes partially guaranteed contract, Andre Miller with a team option, Bayless and Fernandez with team options. For those keeping score at home, that is more than $22 million in basically expiring deals. Only $1.75 million is guaranteed for the following season(s), and that’s Gomes. There are a lot of teams that will likely be interested in Rudy, Rex, Przy this summer and mid-season. Teams can basically “try them out” with no commitment past next summer. This is much like the Camby-Blake-Outlaw trade that happened.

IS this correct?
The way I understood it was his contract was fully guaranteed after the end of the month. Douglast can you shed some light here?
I think I found what was missing
If he is as good as you say…he could be used in a trade with Miami, and return to PDX after they buy him out.
I was just scrolling through hoopshype
And apparently Miami was trying to trade Beasley for Gomes before the Portland deal, but Minn didn’t want him.
take Beasley and try to flip him this summer

Get Beasley and then trade Aldridge for Tony Parker?
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
Disclaimer: I'm an unabashed Beasley fan, being from Kansas
But I think that the right environment may be what Beasley needs to put it together. Miami is a largely apathetic basketball community with loads of distraction and not much strong veteran leadership. Portland isn’t a lot better in the way of strong veteran leadership, but in every other way it’s a world apart from south Florida.
