Jason Quick on Oregonlive - KP could be bringing in an All Star in the next week
I am geeked right now!!!! Well maybe I need to calm down...nothing has happened yet. And he did mention this on 95.5 The Game earlier, so it's not entirely new news. But he spoke longer and in more detail this time. Jason Quick said on the O-Live chat, KP is working on a deal to bring in an all star...a deal that is so sweet there is no way Paul Allen could turn it down or fire him.
Quick says, "I think the Blazers are another all star player away from contending for a championship. Portland is much closer to that than many fans think." In the context of the conversation, it is clear he means that KP is working on a deal to bring in a big time all star. Quick says the deal, if it happens, will happen before or on the draft.
Also mentioned that if the Blazers start out slow next season, look for Nate to feel a lot of heat and possibly be fired.
I'm sure the podcast will be up soon. It's definitely worth a listen.

YOU REALIZE IT JASON QUICK RIGHT????............
Listening to his rumors and speculations are like telling your family you won the lottery before you even bought a ticket. The man is an idiot.
I realize I may be setting myself up for disappointment
But hey…this rumor should get me through to the draft. We shall see.
Jason
When was this talked about? Sounds like he said more than he did on the MSP yesterday.

You're funny, Cab
But we all know that without Outlaw and Blake, there’s no way. We’ll probably have to do a sign and trade with Diener.
That was perfect

Coveted by KP
This is a no-brainer. Hornets have expressed interest to lower their team salary base. With the presence of upcoming Darren Collison, who filled in for CP3, who was out with injury, they may shop CP3.
KP has always relished the idea of CP3 in a Blazers uniform. CP3 contract, in a sign-n-trade, would require Pryz and Miller, along with a Rudy (for carrot dangler). Both Miller and Pryz have one year left on their contracts.
This may be what is going on :) I’m drooling. Salivating.
BUT FIRE THE TRAINING STAFF, NOT KP!
by jeckyll2hyde on Jun 17, 2010 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions
I doubt CP3 in on the block
The closest he’ll come to a Blazer coach is next season when Monty’s his head coach and this summer when Nate’s assistant coach to TeamUSA. He’s too good for the Hornets to let go … nice pipe dream but it would be like the Blazers trading Brandon Roy for Heinrich and Turiaf (I’m just thinking of a good but not great PG and another big-ish player that has been injured most of the season). That would be good if KP finally decided to take the low road.
Never say never
The circumstances under which they would trade him will come about. You just can’t envision them yet.

I do remember that. And that the trade deadline 2009 would be a "watershed moment" in Blazers history.
The outcome: Ike Diogu for MIKE RUFFIN! Savior of the franchise!
Maybe this is Quick's watershed moment?

Also take into consideration that Quick reports on the Blazers more than
any national sources. He is bound to have more “egad” moments solely based upon such a large sample size relative to nearly all other reporters. I am hoping though, he gets this right. An all star sure does sound mighty nice. Miller, claver, rudy, and this years first round pick (maybe swap?) for Parker and contract filler…

Did you Quick-lovers invest with Bernie Madoff too?
it's not the rumor, it's the details
It’s one thing to say hey a trade is gonna happen. Tell you what, I’ll say that right now. It’s another thing though to actually say who the trade is for and who is going out. Quick just doesn’t have that info – he is hedging is guess.

i think aldridge will be a primary piece involved in a trade for a pg.
then we subsequently move dre, przy, and rudy for a pf
now back in sunny portland, oregon
what point guard are you thinking of?
i don’t think the Spurs are looking to add Aldridge with the year that Duncan just had. I don’t see that many available point guards out there that the Blazers would be willing to trade Aldridge for.

Well,
if Przy waives the ETO clause in his contract, thus guaranteeing 2010-11, he can be traded.
I would guess that he wouldn’t do so unless it was a team he wanted to join. San Antonio could be one of those teams, but who knows?
"It's Our Time":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O99POVJfglY
Didn't he already did waive the ETO?
I thought I remember seeing something week ago from Oregonian…
"I think he’s been doing some good things. I think he’s been doing some good things. He’s had to play a lot of minutes lately with Blake being out. I think he’s been doing some good things." -Nate McMillan
Not that I know of
The assumption is that he will do nothing, thus the ETO will not be exercised and his 2010-11 amount will be fully guaranteed. But since he doesn’t have to do a single thing to get the money, it’s different from a player option where he has to file paperwork to get money.
There would be no advantage to waiving the ETO clause unless he was agreeing to be traded before July 1st.
"It's Our Time":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O99POVJfglY
would you waive the ETO before the draft?
I sure wouldn’t, that’s like waiving your no-trade clause
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I suspect they could sign a trade agreement with a contingency that Joel doesn't exercise his ETO.
He obviously isn’t going to opt out so that isn’t going to scare any potential trade partners away.

hold onto Joel until Feb
the Spurs have enough big men, you know RC is going to ask for Batum
if KP is lucky he can acquire Parker for Miller+Webster+Rudy
(or substitute Bayless for Rudy and flip Fernandez in another deal)
this is the kind of blockbuster trade that teams in “go for it” mode make—and KP does have ties to the Spurs—so they’ll either deal with him, or be wary of him
Narmoally I’d say “what does San Antonio know about Tony’s physical condition that Portland doesn’t know?” but I’m willing to throw cautin to the wind for a 27 year-old PG who has been the MVP of an NBA finals

spurs need a center to and cheap shooters./pg option
i am still stayen with pryzbilla, miller, and rudy or websters 7-8 mill option. They need to lower their cap
Webster doesn't have a 7-8 million option
He’s making $4.3 million this year (2009-10) and he’ll make $4.8 million in 2010-11.
And if the Spurs need to lower their team salary, why do they make this trade which causes them to lose $1 million (trade kicker to Joel) and $3 million in additional luxury tax? This trade doesn’t reduce their team salary figure….
"It's Our Time":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O99POVJfglY
Only if Portland sends $1 million in cash
as part of the deal. Portland can’t pay the kicker, but they can include the money for the kicker in the trade if they want.
Still doesn’t cover the $3 million more in tax that SA has to pay….

Really, what do the blazers have to trade that would come close to an allstar. Also it has been made public KP has gone after shaq before when he was in pheonix.
Isn't that the point?
It’s the elusive Pau Gasol like trade, the one that is just soo inconceivable that when it happens, it amazes all.

Or...
What if its for someone more like Gilbert Arenas. Makes since for the wizards since with John Wall, Gilbert would be sitting the pine anyways. Plus the only GM I could see taking such a risk would be KP.

Both are UFA’s. Either one could decide not to opt out before the draft and be traded, but they both intend to opt out. Otherwise, they’d have to wait to negotiate their new contracts until the new CBA takes effect.
Terrible Journalism...
The rumor is that KP is working hard on a blockbuster deal. So when nothing goes down we can all speculate as to how great the deal was, and why on earth PA would turn it down and fire the mastermind. For Quick’s sake let’s all pretend it’s Lebron and that Paul Allen turned it down because he doesn’t want to give up on Bayless and Rudy just yet.

A consolidation trade where the Portland Trail Blazers net Andre Iguodala would be a dream come true.
If Iggy is coming here,
Miller has got to be on his way out. No way that we have two major players that have no ability to stretch the floor. Seems that a Mo Williams swap with Miller would fit then. Iggy and Batum bring some great perimeter defense and would allow Porland to “make do” on defense with Williams.
by parkinglotj on Jun 17, 2010 11:35 PM PDT up reply actions
Nope, the team would just need a coach who'd dump Nate McMillan's simplistic high-low zone ...
offense for either a pro-style pick-and-roll offense (e.g., Jeff Van Gundy) or a power-oriented scheme like the Hawk offense (e.g., Mike Fratello). Andre Iguodala and Andre Miller could co-exist without any problems whatsoever, but McMillan would have to get the boot.
That last line is not true. Miller and Iggy aren't exactly the best match. They have a few problems.
The 76’ers got killed by not having enough shooters. It hurt them so much of the time and allowed teams to really disrupt Iggy’s offense in the post season by being able to send double teams.
You would need another shooter at PG unless you wanted to trade LMA for a floor spacing PF.

Could KP be fleecing Quick?
Or could Quick be in cahoots with KP against Paul Allen? So after the draft passes, they say KP had a blockbuster deal, but Allen nixed it to spite KP? Hmmm….. I know that is conspiracy theory out of control. But I am wondering, if that is just as likely as the deal to end all deals.
must be Lebron James:
he’s an all-star and according to the post, KP is working on a “deal”. it does not necessarily mean a trade. We get James for 2 million dollars a year because KP is a sweet talker. PLUS, since James is changing his number from 23 (Webster’s #) to 6 (no one on the Blazers has this), it would be extra convenient for James! Yup, it all makes sense now.
Oh, and after KP pulls this off, Allen will finally pull the trigger in disgust and fire Pritchard.
...and that's the bottom line 'cause nicolas batum said so!
Jason Quick is usually pretty good
If he’s billowing smoke I don’t doubt there’s some fire.

I sure hope its not Al Jefferson since they plan to draft Couisins and plan to trade Love or Jefferson
And Rudy would be a great piece to help them encourage Rubio to come over in ‘11. Overpaid back up PF is not what we need and Iguodala would just stunt Batum’s growth and Batum is a much better shooter and perimeter defender now.
Don't want Batum involved in the deal.
The team wants players that can stretch the court – either through the draft, in a deal or through FA. There was talk by one of the Blazer scouts, that there are two players that are pretty good at catching and shooting who could go somewhere around where the Blazers draft. I’m guessing one of those is Babbitt – the other could be Xavier Henry.
I wouldn’t mind Iguodala – could play Roy, Batum and Iguodala in a three man rotation, with Batum and Iguodala both being able to play the 2 and 3 – both would give good defense, however Iguodala is more of a slasher then an outside shooter and wouldn’t see him being able to stretch the floor.
Would love CP3, but I doubt he gets dealt. Wouldn’t mind Parker, but not at the expense of Batum – would hold on to him and see if he develops into the player many of us hope he can be. If the Spurs were willing to take Miller, Rudy, and Martell for Parker I’d be willing to make the deal – would also be willing to throw in Victor Claver and some of the other Europeans we’ve got in Europe. If this were the deal, it might not be a bad idea to look at bringing back Blake and/or Travis in addition to a rookie like Babbitt or Henry as we’d need some outside shooters to spead the floor.
David Lee is intriguing, but I wouldn’t trade LMA for him – it would have to be Joel and maybe Rudy in a sign and trade – Lee could then play primarily at the 4 but also spell time at the 5 – he would however be a pretty expensive bench player.
Granger wouldn’t be bad – would do the same with him as with Iguodala – playing Batum at both the 2 and 3.
Danny Granger would be the best possible player we could get. Probably not going to happen.
Boozer, Tony Parker, Joe Johnson, or Amare…either not going to happen, or not ideal.
You know what's up.
Plus he has a mean face. Way meaner than Granger.

My two cents
Of potential All-Stars that could get us into the championship round and may be available for the right package and have that kind of impact. Here is my list.
1.) Lebron
2.) Bosh
3.) Paul
4.) Nowitzki
5.) A. Stoudemire
6.) Parker
7.) Boozer
8.) Arenas
9.) Hamilton or Prince
10.) Iguodola
11.) Baron Davis
12.) Devin Harris
13.) Granger
Please, no Arenas!
If KP sticks us with Gil as his parting shot, I’m going to curse PA!
Not sure I’d call Rip or Prince All-Stars anymore. Not quite as bad as touting Maglore an as All-Stare acquisition, but it’s close.

I haven't...
I haven’t listened to the Podcast or report. But keep this in mind. Has there ever been an off-season where everything doesn’t get rumored at least once? Whether it’s from Jason Quick or any other outlet?
I’ve never approached a draft where I didn’t hear somebody saying almost anything you can imagine might be happening . I’ve never gone through an off-season where we weren’t going to make a huge free-agent splash…
Sometimes things happen and sometimes they don’t, but I’d just hold tight before I’d get too excited about an unnamed All-Star arriving in Portland.
