That's right. I said it. The Blazers need Turk. I know what you're thinking. I'm an idiot. My parents are siblings. Maybe you're right but consider this.
We need a better, proven shooter off the bench. It's well known Hedo didn't come off his best year, but he's proven in the right place he can be effective. I don't think Toronto used him well. He'd be better here with Nate's highly sophisticated iso offense. He'd have more chances to handle the ball. We could run the entire second unit through him. As a Point/Forward he solves the backup PG problem without taking Bayless out of the rotation. Brings a much needed extra shooter. Prevents double teams on B. Roy better than Martell or Rudy can in the 2nd unit. Aside from backing up Nic and Dre, he could also spell LMA for a short time against certain teams. We could put a lot of different lineups on the floor with Hedo in the second unit. Here's the best part. It wouldn't cost us too much more than Pryzbo to get Turk. Toronto would love to dump him for an expiring contract. He and Joel make almost the same. We might be able to get more than Hedo. I'm telling you Toronto would LOVE to dump his contract. Plus we wouldn't have to use our mid level exception on a PG. We could still go out and get Raja Bell or someone like that. Trade Rudy for a draft pick and take Terrico White.
I don't know how it would work when we resign Greg and Batum. Like I said Hedo's got a pretty big contract. However, if he comes here and helps get us deep in the playoffs it'd be hard to say he's over paid. We've got Dre and Camby for the next couple of years, so we might as well do everything we can to win now. Plus, it's not the worst thing in the world to have one guy who's a little over paid either. In two years, our window with Camby and Miller here will be closed. The core is still young enough it wouldn't be hard to make another run, but the only contracts that carry weight are held by key guys. Turkoglu would only have two years left at that point and once he enters his final year we could trade him for a younger guy and take another stab at it. If he produces here, which I think he could, he would have trade value. One problem we have now trying to trade is that we can't match salaries.
I wasn't in favor of bringing Hedo here a year ago. I thought it was too much for a guy that didn't put us over the top. Now after seeing how good we are with Andre and Camby, I think we could compete for a top spot, and Hedo might be the guy to put us over top. The question is how much are you willing to over pay for championship? It's not our money.
