Blazers Announce First Workout Group
The Blazers have announced the first group of workout participants on their official twitter feed.
--------------------------
Tory Jackson, Andy Rautins, Ryan Thompson, Marqus Blakely, Landry Fields, Tyren Johnson
--------------------------
None of the six names are currently listed in Draft Express's 2010 mock draft. Nevertheless, click each name for their Draft Express profile (if available). Thompson, by the way, is the younger brother of Jason Thompson of the Sacramento Kings.

wow...
if they’re working out Rautins they’re probably starting a farm team or something

We didn't work out any big prospects last year
I don’t remember anyone picked in the top 20 coming here, but I could be wrong. There was talk of guys (or at least their agents) not wanting to come here because of our depth. I don’t know if those rumors are true, but I wonder I we’re facing the same issues again. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to look at some bigger talent.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.

Hansbrough worked out with Pendy and Ferno
otherwise I don’t remember anyone with lottery potential
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
Hansbrough
You are correct.
I was also correct. I said I could be wrong.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
This must be prospective players for the Summer League squad?
There will be some quality undrafted guys in a draft this deep, so I guess it doesn’t hurt to put your eyes on some of them in the hopes of adding them to a summer league roster and potentially to your training camp squad. Other than that, it looks like they aren’t wanting to tip their hands.
Marqus Blakely
has been on my interesting prospect list. he’s 6’4" and he has the wingspan of joakim noah. i think he’s a trevor ariza kind of player.
"I've hacked into your brain. You're throwing a party and no one's showing up."
sweet, a 6'5" guy with no handles or shot
he is a 6’5" power forward – that might work at VERMONT but won’t cut it in the NBA
He appears to have an above average wingspan, but nothing freakish by any means.

Marquis Blakely was one of my favorite players in college hoops the past couple years. Led his team in points, rebounds, steals, blocks and assists. Just a statistical freak of nature. Basically a 6’5’’ post player. I don’t think he’s an NBA player.
Fields may have been the best player in the pac-10 this year— it was close between him and Pondexter (do not give me Jerome Randle). He can do a bit of everything. I think he may be worth a look late in the 2nd round. Not great at anything though.
In recent years, at least, there have been quite a few PAC-10 players worth drafting.
Fields may have been the best player in the pac-10 this year
Here are the PAC-10 players taken in round 1 from 2000 through last year:

4 russell westbrook (ucla)
5 kevin love (ucla)
10 brook lopez (stanford)
11 jerryd bayless (arizona)

26 aaron brooks (oregon)
27 arron afflalo (ucla)
- 2006
6 brandon roy (washington)
26 jordan farmar (ucla)
- 2005
8 channing frye (arizona)
9 ike diogu (arizona state)
21 nate robinson (washington)
- 2004
6 josh childress (stanford)

Okay. All that typing and that's the only comment you have?
No problem. My inferred message was that, if you could obtain the “best” PAC-10 player of the year in a draft, you would probably be doing pretty well, and might indeed burn a 1st rounder on the guy, not a late 2nd rounder.

It was a pretty awful year for the Pac-10
Should Turner fall because the Big Ten hasn’t produced many prospects recently?
My knowledge of PAC-10 and college hoops in general
is approximately equal to my knowledge of the UO team. And since they kinda sucked this last year, I haven’t even been following them too closely.

lol, sorry.
There wasn’t a lot of high level NBA talent in the pac-10 this year. I’m not at all sold on Fields as an NBA rotation player, though I do think he’s worth a look.
I'm a Stanford student, so I've been able to watch Fields a lot.
(albeit against lackluster competition in the Pac-10). He’s definitely worth consideration in the second round. Decent size, good athleticism, great handles for a big guy, and able to guard three or four different positions. Struggles from the foul line and is an inconsistent shooter from long range, but is able to create his own shot. I think he’s sort of in the Terrence Williams mold, though obviously without the same upside due to a limited passing ability.
I think he could be a steal with a late pick.
A low round 2 draft is easy to steal away
If the blazers are able to find some wheat in a pile of chaff, sounds good to me. The bigger the names, the harder it is to pritchslap someone. No on suspects the undrafteds to in actuality have potential.
