TRADE DRAWER>>>
NEW TRADE DRAWER AND DRAFT IDEAS>>>
Ok, so I just finished reading through some of the recent articles and also Dave's posts. Now, I feel generally caught up since my computer went down for a bit. I have a few Ideas on trades and drafts, so I thought I would open a new thread.
This sign/trade/draft idea is labeled as: Project Northwest
A - Sign FA Nate Robinson from Boston Celtics.
B - Draft Quincy Pondexter from Washington Huskies with #22 pick.
C - Sign FA Ray Allen from Boston Celtics.
D - Sign FA Ben Wallace from Detroit Pistons.
E - Trade Rudy Fernandez and draft rights of one of the Euro players, for a upper lottery pick 4-8 spot.
All players less Ben Wallace are NW connected. Nate and Roy are friends. Quincy is a UW product, and a solid continually growing player prospect. Ray Allen was Mr. Sonic until a move made this no more. Ben Wallace is a Virginia man but is not only a fierce player, he is a family man. All of these players represent good basketball. This is a must for a Blazer player. Ben may be fiesty, but off the court he is family!
Here is a link to each current NBA players bios less the players being traded from Blazers:

Did Dave trade timbo to BsotS?
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out, burns out farms, and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
Head Czar of Amerika <--- Mortimer said so so there!!!
I like project NW
Except that we’ll have to give up some players in sign and trades. There’s no way we can outright sign those three FA’s. If Rudy and Martell get traded to move us up in the draft, I can see us signing Nate Robinson to the BIE or MLE (or part of the latter) to play backup PG since Jerryd will be playing more SG.
Project GO Ahead kinda sucks. Sorry. I like Bayless a lot more than Conley, and if chemistry with GO is what you are going for, you lose a lot in Bayless. Oden has gotten used to living without Conley. Taking away Bayless might be too much for the big guy. Oh, and we don’t need two project centers who can’t play often enough due to foul trouble and injuries. Especially not when it means taking away our PG Jedi Master, who will be instrumental in training the young padawans.
As far as project Wall goes, I would hate to lose Batum, but with Webster on the roster, I would pull the trigger for Wall. Problem is, Washington would not.
My thoughts
I don’t like the first two, and while I love the 3rd it is not plausible the Wizards would even consider it.
The rumors on the internet, however, is that Philly is willing to package the #2 pick with Elton Brand.
If the Blazers believe that Oden is never going to come near his potential (as I am leaning towards), there could be a real opportunity here for Portland. Something like:
To Philly: Oden, Webster, Bayless, Pendergraph
To Portland: Elton Brand, the #2 pick, and a future first (if we can get it).
(this works on the trade machine)
Why Portland does it:
This would allow us to draft either Favors or Cousins to pair with Aldridge. Hollinger (who I know not everyone cares for) rates Cousins as by far the top player in this draft. I also know Cousins has built a bad reputation, but I tend to think these things tend to get overblown the last couple of months before the draft. Taking on Brand’s contract sucks for the next two years, but then becomes a pretty awesome expiring contract in year 3. He would also be a pretty good backup.
If the Blazers are too wary of Cousins, Favors looks like he could be amazing as well. According to ESPN, his measurables match Dwight Howard’s when he was coming into the league, and he projects as a center in the NBA. Of course, he’s also a really good basketball player.
Why Philly does it:
They are apparently desperate to ditch Brand’s contract. Getting back Greg Oden makes it easier selling what is essentially a salary dump to their fans. They get Oden (who still has All-Star potential) cheap for a year and have the opportunity to match any offers in 2011 if their gamble pays off and Oden can stay healthy.
It’s depressing to realize this, but I would be happy to trade Oden for either Favors or Cousins, and if Paul Allen doesn’t mind taking on Brand’s contract that would make for a pretty fearsome big-man rotation (Camby, Aldridge, Brand, and Cousins/Favors). With Camby here for two years, it makes it possible to bring Cousins or Favors along slowly, playing 15-25 minutes a night this year and hopefully becoming a starter in 2011-12.
I don’t expect the idea of trading Oden for one of those guys to be popular, but I believe it would make Portland a better team.
Also
Taking on Brand’s salary is somewhat mitigated by having Cousins/Favors on a rookie salary for the same period, whereas I expect Oden to get a huge contract next summer even if he doesn’t show any real progress. And like I said that $20 million expiring contract in 2013 could land a pretty major piece.
Or.....
We could keep greg. A 7 foot 280 pound beast who could become one of the most dominant centers in the game. and not get that scrub and a rookie
I could not imagine a world
where a 22 year old GO goes, and a washed up $50 million Brand comes, but some say that I lack imagination.
I could imagine, however, that KP does NOTHING, unless there’s a fleecin’ afoot. He simply lacks motivation, otherwise. It’s a loving and kinder world, having a rock star roster.
The old guys are very good. The young guys are also very good, and likely, getting better.

Could the Blazer use this guy
A point guard possessing height like Torrance doesn’t come along very often. Any team that selects the combo guard from Alabama will have a player who is ready to come in and contribute at either point guard or shooting guard from day one.
In a draft thin at both guards, that is truly a luxury.
At the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, Torrance wowed scouts with his ability to distribute and score with high efficiency. He has struggled with turnovers, but hasn’t played point guard full-time until this season.
The team that selects Torrance will do so based on his upside at point guard and great physical attributes.
The Lakers have two second round picks, so using one on Torrance would give them a younger back court. Even earlier in the second, we like his fit with the Kings. The only point on the roster is Beno Udrih and a backcourt of Tyreke Evans and Torrance would be a nightmare for teams to deal with.
Terrico White the Most Versatile?

Adjust font size:During the NBA Draft process teams focus heavily on what players cannot do when making their decision. The best way to divert their attention from the negative is to overwhelm them with positives, which is exactly what Terrico White is doing.
In two short seasons at Mississippi White showcased intriguing versatility that will provide his future coach with several different ways he can use him. White played all three perimeter positions at Ole Miss and has the potential to continue to do so at the next level.
It’s White’s size that sets him apart from the rest of this year’s draft class. At 6’5 he’ll create serious matchup problems for smaller guards. It’s that size that he feels will translate the best.
“My size (will translate) I can really play the 1, 2, or 3,” said White. “I can guard the 1, 2, or 3. I’ve got a good mid range game; I can shoot the three and do anything.”
While it’s a great luxury for a coach to have the option to use White in a multitude of ways, eventually he’s going to be put in a set role. White wasn’t sure exactly where that would be early on, but looking ahead he sees himself as a lead guard.
“I can see myself being a point guard down the line because of my size advantage,” noted White. “I’m 6’5 with shoes on.”
