For All The David Lee Haters Out There
I wrote this simply because Ive read alot of peoples comments regarding David Lee and the fact that he isnt that good. Now dont get me wrong, he's not my personal favorite player, but the guy is a stud! I wouldnt trade LMA for him either, so lets be clear on that. But you gotta give props when props is due-atleast I heard that some where some time. Heres some crazy quotes on DLEE-
"Lee posted a historic triple-double Friday against the Warriors, racking up 37 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists. The triple-double was the first of Lee's career and marked the first time since the ABA-NBA merger in '76-'77 that a player had at least 30 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in a game. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (in 1976) was the last player to do so."-ESPN
"The Knicks were blown out in Portland despite David Lee's team-high totals of 20 points, ten rebounds and five assists. Lee has led his team (either outright or tied) in all three of those categories in eight games this season. The only other NBA player to do that more than five times is LeBron James." -Elias Sports Bureau
Quik Comparisons(I also looked at Tim Duncan, Garnett, Gasol--Lees numbers are as good or better than most of them!):
David Lee -20.2pts 11.9rebs 3.6ast 1stl 54%fg% 80%ft%
Lamarcus Aldridge -17.7pts 8.1rebs 2ast .87stl 49%fg% 75%ft%
Carlos Boozer -19.7pts 11.3rebs 3.2ast 1.1stl 56%fg% 74%ft
Just sayin there is no way to diss David Lee, like him or not. The dude can flat out play.

Lee is a DEFENSIVE LIABILITY
dude can flat out play offense, but is one of the worst big men in the league on defense.
The Blazers SHOULD want defensive minded players. Defense wins championships.
How many games has New York won this year?

Sure he can play.
I think the issues have mostly been thus…
1. Will he play for us. (playing behind LMA?)
2. Can we afford him?
3. What roster moves are required for this?

the Blazers made Lee an offer last July, right before Miller was signed
Lee turned them down. This year there’s no capspace to make him another offer
Unless the Knicks really want Rudy, Bayless and Webster, I don’t think a sign and trade is in order
and I’d rather have Camby as the backup to Greg and LMA. Lee is too good to be a reserve 4-5
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
we dont want him
we cant afford him and he wont play backup. I want LMA over LEE anyday. My point was simply, Lee is underrated.

Wait...
isnt that the knock on LMA, but look over the numbers, Lee has a much better rebound per ave. one of the best FG % in the league, nearly 4apg which is astronomical for a pf/c,and ohh btw he shoots 80freaking% from FT. I too would not trade LMA for him…..well i might……but defense is effort, tough to show effort on that sorry knicks team. Just my opinion though.

"...against the Warriors, racking up 37 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists..."
Adjust for Donflation he had 8 points 3 boards and 2 assists.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
I forgot about the effect that the D'antoni principle has on...
He probably didn’t even play in that game.
Those two teams are both so horrible at defense that Eddie Curry had a double double while on a DNP CD.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
who else has done that against the Warriors? Nobody?
O yeah thats right

dang it! i'm totally wrong! lol
I was going to say Donflation is way overrated… but maybe not

Yeah, he really is solid
“but” if LaMarcus was our primary scorer for 1.5 seasons non-stop he would be putting up similar numbers. Boozer does it with a great PG while Lee does it with guys like Sergio or Nate “wrong way” Robinson. Lee is awesome. We don’t need him.
At least one of those assists wasn't real.
Stat keepers fudged so he could get the triple double. In the fourth quarter he passed to Gallinari at the top of the key who then dribbled for about five seconds before he finally took a shot. Somehow Lee gets an assist.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the rebound numbers were also misleading.

still a freaking monster game by anyones standards no matter what

Just remember my point
he is a good player and its hard to diss him. “I dont think we should trade for him” because it simply isnt possible for him to be a Blazer, (Lee as a Blazer is moot). My only point was he puts up great numbers and is under rated. I dont think he is the best thing since sliced bread, he just good at what he does.

I didn't have an opinion on David Lee before now.
But reading all this makes me hate him. I don’t need numbers for that.
"[S]ince men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to pursue many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers, and that was that first yoke they placed upon themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of evils the prepared for their descendants. For, besides continuing thus to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit, and as they had at the same time degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet; and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to have them." -Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Said it before and I'll say it again: Lee is one of the five worst defenders in the NBA.
And stats against Golden State don’t count.
I've added him to my all good looking team
if I can just get the ear of Paul Allen, the team will look very different next year.
You left out a key stat in your comparison
David Lee 28 wins
LaMarcus Aldridge 48 wins
Carlos Boozer 51 wins
Stats for a loser don’t mean as much to me. (And I don’t hate anyone.)
- In Spain there is the impression that you have to butter McMillan up to play in Portland ..."
"I do not know. I don´t think so. McMillan has a philosophy of play and I don´t think that will change by giving him a hug." - Rudy Fernandez (compliments of Amlmart1)
i like lee
but he is lacking a 3 point shot. and we all know that nate would put him out on the wing.

Everyone says Lee can't defend.
Which I somewhat agree with but I think he can be a decent defender. Mike D’antoni doesn’t exactly preach defense He plays alongside Al Harrington and Gallinari neither of whom are post defenders so basically he is asked to do everything. If he played alongside a decent help defender it would hide a lot of his deficiencies. He is a big body and can push power post guys out of the lane. IMO he is a decent defender in a crummy situation, of course you can’t really back any of this up with stats but just wait my friend.
Problem is getting great states on a team that is going to lose is not that impressive to me
for example, the ONLY reason he was in the Blazer game as long as he was was to get his double double…he played well into garbage time…He got his 10th board and asked out…
the triple double stat line is amazing, but Golden State led comfortably for most of the game.
I guess what I am saying is that I would be more impressed if his team were competing at a high level consistently, which they have not over his time with the Knicks…
I do put him on my fantasy league roster though, most reliable center in the league
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
Lee sucks

See how much emotion David Lee evokes in people?
That is why I posted this. Lee is an extremely controversial player. Knock his “d” all you want, but his coach isnt known for his defensive mindedness. And personally, all the stats he gets “extra” cant be more than what he actually gets, and if you cant look at Lees stats to use them to make your case, then you cant use anybodies stats. That would make all players stats completely bogus. Heck that would make the NBA bogus.
David Lee is a good player. I disagree with anyone who say he is not. I feel that his defense isnt the greatest, but he isnt the worst defender either. And again no offense to anyone but why would Lee have to be on a good team to have his stats recognized?
Lets look at Lee vs CLE, BOS and ORL—
Vs. Boston Lee would face-Garnett,Glen Davis, kendrick Perkins, Rasheed
Vs. Orlando Lee would face-Rashard Lewis,Ryan Anderson,Dwight Howard,M.Gortat
Vs. Cleve Lee would face-A.Jamison, JJHickson,Anderson Varejao,Z.Ilgauskus
Some big time players on that list.
1. vs Cle – 21pts 6rebs 2ast 2stl
2. vs Bos – 22pts 16 rebs 3ast
3. vs Orl – 20pts 12 rebs 3 ast
4. vs Orl – 9pts 6rebs 1ast 1stl
5. vs Cle – 20pts 8reb 1ast 2stl
6. vs Bos – 28pts 15rebs3ast 2stl 1blk
7. vs Cle – 10pts 10rebs 4ast 3stl
8. vs Bos – 29pts 9 rebs 7ast 2 stl 1blk
9. vs Bos – 13pts 11rebs 6ast 3stl
HHmmm. Hardly shabby numbers by any players standards. And Its hard to get that many steals with out playing atleast some defense. And those stats are just vs the best the East has to throw at Lee.
Again, everyone needs to remember, I dont think the sun rises and sets on DLee, I just think he is a good player. East coast west coast, any team he was on wouldnt matter, he would still be good.
Last but not least, this wasnt a post about LMA. I know I originally compared Lee and LMA and Boozer but that was just for a reference point. I dont want Lee. I dont want to trade LMA—not for anyone. I posted this because I feel Lee is a good player and I know alot of people dont seem to like him. And if anything, it is a worthy conversation, just look at all these responses. ANd whether I agree with you or not, there is 1 thing we can agree on…
THE BLAZERS!!
They are the best, and I will be a fan of theirs forever.
