Junk Drawer to a Trail Mix 4 - 6 - 10
Most of us have never met but many of us will have a special place in our hearts for each other. We will remember this day/night forever and we will remember this crazy Blazer season 4ever. The best thing most of us have is our memories, and as a friend once said, sometimes you wouldn’t even give up a second of the worst of times...
As the playoff season approaches, I like to give out a few quick toasts to this year. So part of this junk is to give a toast to anyone, a player, bedger, celebrity, anybody…If you sat around a dinner table with them, and had to raise a glass, what would you say?
Here’s a few things I would say:
To KP: "The economy has nothing to do with you, don’t kiss azz and just do work."
To BRoy: "There’s a reason you have a posse. Don’t say anything…just play us there. Now."
To GO: "Don’t take the money. If your will is as big as your Oden, prove it and make ‘em pay."
To Batum: "if you were short like Rex, Brad and Angelina would try to adopt you."
To Camby: "Your tattoo means ‘teach LMA how to rebound’ so go do it"
To LMA: "lets go!!! The fresh prince of Bel Air has even more street cred than you."
To Rex: "I hear in Japan, they can do leg and arm extensions"
To Rudy: "enough with the dribbling, we all know you grew up dribbling with yo’ feet"
To Juwan: "I would proudly walk you across the street and then let Dante run you over with his Mack truck"
To Martell: "the last time I saw you play well, you didn’t have hair"
To Pendy: "There are worse things in life than being a million dollar hype man"
To Dre: "listen to the ladies…don’t shoot, just drive"
To Mortimer: "Your ginger sister is the only ginger I can look at"
To Tom: "if Mickey Rourke can make a comeback, so can you"
To NBF: "if Britney can make a comeback, so can you"
To my fellow BEdgers: "Zach you all for making me love this community."
Peace. Stay Cool. Forever.
Love,
BRP

Speaking of Brad and Angelina, those two have been spotted in Sarajevo today. More adoptions coming?
(Miss Pitt is filming in Venice right now)
I got TWO ginger sisters
One a nicer and aging better Molly Ringwald (that’s the lawyer), and one a big boobed Lindsay Lohan-pre-crack and not all fake-tanned. She is married though.
BRP can check ’em out BUT EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO GET APPROVED.
#52
Submit your application for approval!
She’s the one who looks like a red haired gremlin in my kid photos.

My application
Name: Tyler
Location: Oregon
Age: 19
Reasons I would be good for the situation: I am a hard working dedicated guy who is honest
We're still considering our options
Your application is on file, and we will contact you if we need further details.
#52
Eww, I just confused Molly Ringwald with Poppy Montgomery and Andrea Bendewald. For your sister I hope indeed she is aging better.
I saw Molly Ringwald in "Not Another Teen Movie", years ago
And she looked way weird, so she didn’t seem to age all that well.
#52
I can't put my finger on it
But I think the whole “looks kinda like my sister” thing doesn’t do it for me.
Plus, all ginger girls look like my sisters.

yeah, me too…it’s been a tough day…a lot of stuff comes rushing back when these things happen.
i remember how hard it was for me to be around BEdge even after discussing some of the more relatively personal stuff a year ago…so it hurts me to even imagine what idol has to go through esp when i can’t really imagine not having my wife next to me
fiftytwo
yeah i was just talking about it with my gf this morning…
i just hope that his statement eased at least a tiny bit what he’s going through.
It's hard to be eased by anything at this point frankly, amigo.
There’s an uncomfortableness to interacting with others about this similar to the way it feels when you have to clean a fresh wound with peroxide. You know it’s gonna sting, but you accept the short-term discomfort because you know it is what you need to do so that one can heal properly.
hahaha, yeah they all were except this waitress…if you lined them all up, they were all blond and trashy except this waitress…she looks like my neighbor’s aunt

I don't mind his cheating
But I was way disappointed in his taste! Ugh, he coulda’ got whatever he wanted, and what he wanted was bleach blond faked boobied trashy gals… ugh!

Hahahaha
Whoa. Yeah.
Hahahaha. I mean she’s fine, but with the other girls, it’s like… hahahaha. I like the photo too, hers is the glamour shot.

I also think her appeal

I think she’ll age poorly. YEAH, I SAID IT.
I think she is okay. She is cute.
#52
she’s sooo not even real in that movie…if that movie was even real, that guy would be her ceiling

it was ok…
wasn’t the GREATEST quirky movie…it had more BEdge hype than Avatar in Cali….

What do the companies in these three groups have in common? (with those in their group)
Group A. American Motors, Studebaker, Eastman Kodak, Maytag and National Sugar Refining.
Group B. Boeing, Campbell Soup, Deere, IBM and Whirlpool.
Group C. Cisco, eBay, McDonald’s, Microsoft and Yahoo.
Combined with BRP it's getting close
All the companies in Group A were in the Fortune 500 50 years ago, but not now
All the companies in Group B were in the Fortune 500 in both 1959 and 2009.
All the companies in Group C were in the Fortune 500 now, but not in 1959/didn’t even exist
There are only 72 companies that appear in both lists. Only 14% of the Fortune 500 companies in 1959 were still on the list fifty years later in 2009, and 86% of the companies have either gone bankrupt, merged, gone private, or still exist but have fallen from the top 500 companies. That’s a ton of companies.
wow…that’s an amazing stat…
very interesting…
how long do you think walmart stays up there…1 or 2?
i think GE will fall out of the top 10 by 2015
fiftytwo
It’s hard to say. GE is not so much about what kind of business they are in but about management talent and processes, and there they’re still very good. Walmart is there to stay if they manage their international expansion right (they have problems where they are building up themselves instead of taking over a good existing company).
Have you read Jim Collins’ books? He had some trouble finding companies that consistently remained profitable over long time, and since he needed them to I think be good for 20 years pretty much all modern tech companies flew out the window. And 2 or 3 of the companies he found had trouble later (e.g. Pfizer is now better than Merck).
GE is a great company but i think they might have consolidated a few businesses that I thought they should expanded on…esp Finance and Security (esp Homeland Security) when it’s a chance for them to really own the industry.
GE Aviation might take a big hit too with the struggling airlines going downhill.
Immelt is one of the best though so I think my prediction is a bit too aggressive now that you have pointed it out.
I read Good to Great but that’s about it. I probably should read his other stuff too. Exxon was such a great investment after the Valdez incident…I remember one of my grade school teachers mentioning that…It is morally wrong to think like that but a company like Exxon won’t just die due to a major accident and bad publicity…
the big companies have way too much invested by the world’s power to decline as rapidly as i predicted. so i must change my prediction;)

Troy Murphy is a legitimate NBA starter. If Hayward reaches that level, it would be a heck of an accomplishment. I don’t see it either.
Troy Murphy is not legitimate. He’s garbage.
If you want to lose, you have Troy Murphy in your starting lineup.

But that’s okay. My feelings on Murphy aren’t really well understood.
Mostly, I think Geoff Petrie will pull the trigger on Murphy over the summer if he can’t get Bosh to come to Sac. Or, if the Kings get a player like Favors in the draft.

Murphy gets a ton of rebounds normally
And that factors in heavily with Berri, according to stat nerds who know more about the formula than I.
Plus he shoots 40% from 3 and shoots a lot of them, making him an efficient scorer.
#52
he shoots 3s to encourage his teammates to shoot them so he can get more chances at rebounds

fiftytwo
No I'm not giving up on him. I just think Murphy is a better player.
Well with Favors there yes, I’d settle for Murphy. Hawes is actually better in a lot of ways than JT is.
I like JT as a player, but I’m not so attached to any one player that I wouldn’t move him for the right piece to improve the Kings either.

Hawes wasn’t hurt any more than he was last year or the year before. He was generally healthy throughout the year. He just had a few minor injuries that should be clear in awhile if all goes as planned.

trust me…he sucks…he’s like the guy at the gym in pick up bball that looks like he does a lot, by hitting an occasional jumper, and getting rebounds by telling his teammates to run down the court when he calls “got it” because he knows that no defenders are around…
and he sweats a lot so you think he’s giving it 110% but he just sweats a lot

A. this year
B. I used to think Mike Dunleavy Jr, but it was heavily influenced by the Oregon POY connection. I don’t think he shoots as well (can MD Jr still shoot?) but he bigger. Mike Miller was the upside comparison on one of the draft sites; that seems pretty good.

If he had made that shot, the Clippers would have drafted him in the lottery before he would have inevitably torn his ACL
A halfcourt shot to win the title for BUTLER of all teams, IN INDY now less. Wow. Hard to even imagine. And it JUST missed. wow.

That shot also proved that his speed isn’t good enough to really get to the rim. The possession was poor in general.

if they could have even shot a decent % from the field, that game is theirs. Remarkable job to O-rebound a higher % of their misses than the Dukies.
Yeah and they didn't get the breaks the Dukies got from the perimeter either.

Well yes you are right. There's a reason Timmy is a top 20 guy all time.
But you’re right the Spurs are going to get killed by Tyreke if he comes out with the right attitude and focus. It’s amazing, but he doesn’t always.
I’m looking forward to the day where guys like Batum don’t bother Reke.

I'm not worried. I am curious to see if he gets the 101 pts he needs to get his 20 for the season.
He’s got the ast’s locked up, and is only 10 boards away from averaging 10 for the season. I’m hoping he scores well against SA & the Clipps so he doesn’t have to score an insane amount of points against Dallas, Houston and LA.

The Kings are owed from last year when the Spurs got the gift of the century on that allowed Finley 3. I’m still pissed about that game, and the Kings had nothing riding on it.

Andray Blatch is a tool
or him asking Yi if he can get the rebound…so pathetic…what happen to earning your triple dobules…

He's failed the "eyes" test for years
He’s a dummy! Plus he got busted for soliciting prostitutes a few years back.
#52
Just watched the video
Man, what a show he puts on. 13 assists is great for him, and he totally ruins it by making such a big deal out of the last rebound.
i like what the Wizards announcer was saying… “If we want Andrey to be the leader we hope he can be, he should go pat Martin on the back and say it’s okay”.
And asking Yi to miss the rebound… man. Trade high, Bullets!

Yeah Phil Chenier didn't cut Andray Blatche any slack there.

It wasn’t quite that bad. When Dirk got his triple double against the Nuggets he also made a few attempts to get his 10th assist, but it wasn’t quite that obvious. And they took him out with time left after he got it.
Everybody close to a trip-dub makes that attempt really Norskie. Reke did it against the Raps when he got his.
Curry did it against the Clippers. It’s just natural.

And this is the financial ramifications
Once Mobley clears waivers later this week, New York will see its luxury-tax bill for July drop from nearly $15 million to $5.1 million. That will also reduce the rebate that teams get for staying underneath the league’s $69.9 million luxury-tax threshhold from just over $4 million to $3.7 million.

Dear Aaran Smith, I like you, but Tim Ohlbrecht is not the next Dirk. Never was, not even in 2004. And definitely not now.
Wow, they have Alexey Shved at 45. If that happens, I hope Paul Allen lets KP buy another pick.
Not sure he will be a real NBA talent, but he is oozing potential to be what Shaun Livingston was supposed to be before his injury. Pick, leave where he is, profit.

Main reason to buy an iPad
I’ll buy one, but that seems a bit excessive. But a nice demonstration of the “instant connect” feature for gaming or other applications.
i’m also thinking on getting one, but i’m waiting for the rip-off with the currency change (1€ = 1$). It may end up cheaper to order one directly to the US via one of those “get a PO box and we’ll send it to Europe” places.
i have to admit, it’s pretty cool…it’s a consumption device nothing more…but i can see myself sitting on my deck just reading or junking on that thing…
did you guys try it out yet?
it’s definitely not a need but seems handy for around the house, and travel

Why in the world is he jockeying for position at the free throw line? It simply allows Zoubek to double-team him, forcing him into a contested shot from an almost impossible angle.
Compare this this to “Brandon’s game winner vs. Houston,”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Oi1fHg_HcY, a shot made in a relatively similar game situation. Notice the key is totally free of Blazers. So when Hayes wants to step out and help, he has to move early to establish position. This gives Brandon time to diagnose the help and go around it. LA and Andre’s correct position under the basket make it impossible for Battier and Hayes to help out high without giving up a layup.
BR's shot was easier though
Because it was from a dead ball stop.

I just finished it. I think I’ll go read about sophia and arby, now.
Idol, please let us know how you want the JD to handle this. Do you want it talked about, or will it bring back too many emotions? I am sure you’ll need some time, and your feelings about it may evolve, but in any case, please let us know.
I get the paper, so I don't care!
I think I'm good with it being a topic where it makes sense.
For awhile, things are going to hurt and emotions are going to be brought up in me. But that would have been nearly as true even if I never told any of you what I was going through. I’m pretty good with that right now. Also, I get that a story like I put out yesterday is going to have an impact on y’all, and you will have various reasons to bring up that epic junk and the reason why it happened. I’m pretty good with that, too.
I’ll definitely let y’all know how it’s treating me. Maybe I’ll get to have my own “You crossed the line” moment with someone here like Mort did the other day.
those moments are kinda fun.

Looking at BBall Reference
B Roy has 6 wins and 10 losses against the Nuggets. It appears his production is trending downward, but I don’t really know if his production correlates to a win or loss. He got 6 points in one win and 41 points in another. Maybe someone more mathy and with more time can really look at it.
Maybe the conclusion could be that no matter what B Roy does, the Blazers have a losing record to the Nuggets, so the Blazers should figure something else out.

Sec. 302 FTW
I’m going to probably have to move with a 1/4 season but we’ll see. I’m hoping to stay on an aisle at least. Love the ability to get out quickly during breaks.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
i was hoping to move over closer to center court last year; either further over in 302 or to 301/318. but there was nothing available unless i wanted to upgrade to full season or something. at the select-a-seat, I couldn’t even get in the arena. i just had to wait in line to check with a lady about availability in those sections and there was nothing. luckily, i like my seats in 302. although for the playoffs it looks like i’ll probably get moved elsewhere in the same price range.

it's a weird process
I have no idea if they don’t show you everything that’s available, to avoid people moving around in the same category, rather than upgrading. But that seems obnoxious. If you get bad seats in the first go around, you should be able to move a few seats over when the opportunity arises. Of course, people with the best seats in a section probably don’t change. The people around us have been totally stable for three years now.
But of course, if anyone in my same category upgraded today, I wouldn’t know about it to move into their seats.
Luckily, I like our seats, or it might be annoying.
yeah i agree. i like my seats too. but it was sorta annoying last year driving all the up there and getting nothing out of it.

Dwight is insane. He quotes VECSEY as saying
Paterson also oversaw the ‘06 draft that rendered LaMarcus Aldridge (for Tyrus Thomas), Brandon Roy (secured by trading Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and Randy Foye, in 3 way deal involving Boston and Minnesota). Along the way solid character players like Joel Przybilla and Steve Blake were added as free agents, and solid character draft picks, including Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster and Jarrett Jack joined the mix.
Interestingly, Patterson still lives in Portland. Yet he has all but been erased from the Blazers’ record books and vindictive minds despite doing all the heavy lifting in clearing the deck, and absorbing the losses that made today’s success possible.
I’m not sure if my favorite part is him getting credit for Travis, Brandon, or LaMarcus.
More of Vecsey in Jaynes’ article!

Ben defending KP, and Oden—
Without that he was still the man behind the talent evaluations of Roy, LMA, Oden, Batum, Bayless, Cunningham, Pendergraph, and all the Euro picks over the last few years. Those are all quality picks based on their position in the draft at the time, each player, (minus the Euros) has proven to a contributer on the Blazers. One has become a superstar, (Roy), and the rest are all above avg talent and production for NBA players at their position. Oden got hurt, you can’t predict that, no matter how much Vescey or Simmons feels about it, there was nothing about Oden that said he would be injured like he has been, NOTHING! Every gm in the league would have made that same pick, so that should be the end of the discussion on Greg.

The timeframe somewhat fits. But why did he resign? Was his job done?
2003-06-18 Blazers Steve Patterson hired as as president
2006-05-30 Blazers Steve Patterson hired as interim GM (in addition to president)
2006-10-09 Blazers Steve Patterson promoted to GM (in addition to president)
2007-03-01 Blazers Steve Patterson resigned as president & GM
Also “overseeing” does not equal “having the idea/doing”. The guy who “oversaw” the iPhone development recently admitted he never touched one. If Patterson really claims he did all that, that strikes me a bit like the “Windows 7 was my idea” series of commercials.
Here are the relevant dates for KP
2004-08-24 Blazers Kevin Pritchard hired as director of player personnel
2005-03-02 Blazers Kevin Pritchard interim head coach in addition to director of player personnel
2005-07-06 Blazers Kevin Pritchard replaced as interim head coach
2006-05-31 Blazers Kevin Pritchard re-signed as director of player personnel to a 1-year contract extension
2006-10-09 Blazers Kevin Pritchard promoted to assistant GM
2007-03-29 Blazers Kevin Pritchard promoted to GM
weren’t the events inside that draft room pretty well documented by the oregonian? I seem to remember it was a lot of action between KP and Paul Allen, but I don’t remember anything regarding Patterson.

i guess maybe because Andre’s performance may have helped spark the team to better things? where as Rudy continues to brick shots?

so, you’re saying that talents and abilities rationalize behavior? I wouldn’t have expected that viewpoint from you.
So, your problem is with Rudy’s performance and not his “whining,” I take it?
#52
andre is a known quantity. everyone knew that he is a very good point guard, and starting blake over him was a joke. he was basically channeling most of bedge with his thoughts on nate.. rudy? he’s an unknown quantity
sure. if he were playing well and he said he was homesick, pgiirl would say: ’ aww my poor rudy!!!’ and i would smh and that would be that.
do we need to go into the archives to see what you said about Rudy last season?
I dislike the urge to evaluate players based on a snapshot of their career. He was a lot better last year; that might be his true potential, or this might be. Considering extenuating circumstances, let’s wait a little bit.
#52
Well no, that isn’t exactly what I’m saying. At least, not what I’m intending to say. Personally, I do not think talent and ability should rationalize behavior. I also don’t think the opposite should happen.
But, with that said, in the world of sports everything comes down to performance. I think both you and I would agree that, clearly, Rudy is under performing. Now, the reason appears to be his “homesickness” or a general “meloncholy”. And those things are understandable, but I do not think they warrant the kind of performance we’re seeing from him.
And then, for him to (seemingly) blame his play on those things is not indicative of a professional athlete or a proper attitude. So, I guess my problem first starts with Rudy’s performance and then his complaints about his personal mental issues having an effect on his game.
I think what he should be saying is admitting he isn’t playing well and just say he has to get better. Of course there are reasons, but, in reality, no one wants to hear those reasons when they are personal problems. They just want to see him drain threes.
Rudy is not our friend and we are not his confidants….I don’t care if he’s homesick as it relates to his basketball game. As a person, sure, it sucks that he’s homesick and I can sympathize, but as a basketball and Blazer fan, I don’t like hearing that him missing his home country is having this adverse an effect on his performance.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].

I think the whole "homesickness" is a red herring
When asked about his struggles (as you quoted in a previous comment) he said:
No," he insisted. “The quad is good. The back is very good.”
What’s happening, then?
“Confidence.”
Has he lost confidence?
“Yes, oh yes,” he said. “I don’t know why, but I think I need to get back to hitting my shot.”
Has this happened before in his career?
“Never,” he said, shaking his head. “And I need to change it.”
And confidence (or lack thereof) is a legitimate piece of sports. If you have you play better …if you lose it you play worse….and he is pretty clear here ….he doesn’t have it right now….but it should be noted that the cliche about shooters is true…..they can go from stone cold to red hot in the matter of a couple of made shots….and if that happens all is forgiven.

As the wife mentioned when we were at the Kings game,
Rudy bricked every shot during play. As soon as the whistle blew, he’d throw up a shot and it would swish.
i suppose based on other comments, like the one about his birthday, it isn’t a great leap to infer that his lack of confidence stems from lonliness/homesickness/etc…
but i see your point.

You’re using a dang English major mindset to look at Rudy’s comments like a Robert Frost poem. There doesn’t have to be hidden meaning in between the lines.

Especially since it isn't even his first laguage
any quote from him is always a translation ….either by an interpreter or by Rudy ….I doubt he is thinking in english much
Rudy: ""McMillan has a philosophy of play and I do not think that will change by giving him a hug."’
there is always something between the lines, Cabby. this belief has nothing to do with being an english major and everything to do with seeing how people are.

Rudy is bummed for whatever reason. So, someone should try to help him out. Someone should try to get him some easy buckets to build him back up.

that’s very debatable. Greg is the one we have concerns about, and he was our best per-minute player.
so, we can think of one thing potentially worse?

hopefully this year will allow Cabby to become a mentally tougher fan.

you think a year in which one of the most beloved Blazers sufferse a potentially career ending injury and the team’s future suffers a season ending injury is “just fine” because we made it to above average?
#52
playoffs playoffs playoffs.
injuries happen. of course i’d rather he was healthy all year, but he wasn’t. if we hadn’t made the playoffs i would be a lot more disappointed than I am now.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
Oden healthy is a shot at a title.
Making the playoffs to be killed by LA is not greater than a healthy season by Oden building toward a title.
#52
i don’t think healthy Oden automatically means shot at a title. although the way he was going before he got hurt was a very very good sign.
i also don’t think we’re gonna be the 8 seed. i believe we’ll get the tiebreaker over OKC and get the higher seed than them.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
you don’t think a healthy center who led the NBA in block rate, rebound rate, was second in field goal %, one of the premier defenders in the league, and a player who rated as the most efficient Blazer on offense….
leads to a chance at a title?

sure it does.
we even have a chance at a title (technically speaking) this year.

nope sorry
i wish i could agree with that, but the team has done well, and traded expiring contracts, weak links from the playoffs last year, for a replacement big; OBVIOUSLY we aren’t contenders now without oden, and i know that’s the main sentiment here.
"Perhaps the bench unit's bad mojo can be pinned on Martell Webster's hair."

so, you’re saying that the last month has been fun. I’m saying the first four months were very hard.

a career ending injury for Oden. a season ending injury for Brandon. missing the playoffs. having a losing record. extreme team discord. a fractured locker room.
just off the top of my head.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
you seriously think bad chemistry and missing the playoffs are worse than Greg suffering a serious injury?
#52
yes. a fractured locker room/bad chemistry means the team could likely disband and/or plummet in the standings. and, unless you want to tell me i’m wrong here too, making the playoffs is one of the top goals of a team. And they accomplished it.
i’d rather have a winning team that makes the playoffs than a healthy team that doesn’t.
hopefully next year i will have a healthy team that makes the playoffs and makes a deep run.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
let me get this straight: you’d rather make the playoffs in a matchup we’re likely to lose, while sacrificing our biggest hope for the future?
One season of being a little better than average is not worth your most promising player having a bad injury.
#52
playoffs playoffs playoffs. it at least keeps momentum going forward. and even if we lose in the first round, at least we were there. and getting there without probably the 2nd most important piece in the franchise right now is something to be proud of.
Oden will be back. He is not lost. we did not sacrifice him.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
a season of Oden developing is more important than winning the right to be demolished by someone better than us. Making the playoffs is great, but Oden is the future.
#52
well, we’ll see if he’s the future….i think that warrants doubt. as much as it pains me to say it.

but they did happen. and that’s that. doesn’t matter anymore what you wanted to happen. what you wanted didn’t come to pass. so take joy in the part of what did happen….we made the playoffs.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
don’t change the rules of the debate. The thing was, injuries, or playoffs. You can’t switch it up and say, well, the injuries happened, if we’re debating which is better.
Now, if you want to end the debate, and say the season was successful in spite of the injury, we can agree to disagree.
#52
then we can agree to disagree. making the playoffs is the goal every year. after that, it’s a championship. so, based on what happened this year, yes, it has been a successful year. though, admittedly, not as successful as we had hoped it might be.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
the goal of a franchise is to win the championship, not make the playoffs every year. We’ve been there before.

by Cablinasian on Apr 6, 2010 2:15 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
you have to make the playoffs before you can win a championship. that’s why i said “after that” it’s a championship. you can have more than one goal in a season. but playoffs should be first priority (lumping it with winning the division).
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
that is perfectly fine. i can see how that makes sense too. i just don’t like to put the cart before the horse. but i would agree that the ultimate goal is the ring. just gotta meet some other goals first is all.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
constructing a team without Oden that is just good enough to make the playoffs is riding on a cart without hope of ever having a horse.
#52
i absolutely agree. obviously if Oden continues to go down it’s going to be necessary to find a new way to a ring. but i still say a healthy Oden doesn’t automatically ensure a chance at it.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
no
i don’t think that. I don’t recall saying those words, I’m just saying in light of what HAS happened, the character of the team could be much much weaker, and that would be sadder. I mean, look at clippers fans before you start bumming yourself out about the whole season looking back in retrospect. It has been a rollercoaster this season, with two devestating injuries, but we tested our “depth,” and learned somethings also, why be down about it? Why not look at things optimistically?

it’s important to not react to what’s going on in the moment. Rudy came over to play for a heck of a lot less money, is away from everyone he knows, and has been playing poorly.
Fine, bag on him. I don’t see how he hasn’t been a good Blazer.
#52
woah woah woah….did i ever say he hasn’t been a good Blazer? no.
i like Rudy. I don’t like that he appears to be letting his performance suffer from something that isn’t a physical injury. i like mental toughness and Rudy is showing he might not have much of that.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
hahaha….you love to put words in my mouth don’t you….
i made no statement at all pertaining to the effects of personal experience on personal growth; merely that Rudy is letting his mental state adversely affect his performance on court.
yeah, IF Rudy can pull out of his mental funk, I’m sure he will learn something from it and, hopefully, become mentally tougher.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].

well…right now Rudy does not appear to have much mental toughness. perhaps, if he pulls out of this ordeal he will develop that mental toughness. my statements are not incongruous at all. the statement you block quote is a statement about his current situation as I see it and the comment you replied to is about what I hope he will become.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
if you are judging mental toughness…he might have the most out of the roster next to Brandon…

mentally tough also means you can snap out of it pretty fast…and one shot makes him snap out of it…martell on the other hand, is still thinking back to the last game before he got benched.

I was addressing the implications of your comments on Rudy. You obviously aren’t the biggest fan.
The “good Blazer” line was a poor choice by me because everyone defines that differently.
#52
i’m not as big a fan of Rudy as I am of Brandon, or Nic, or Oden, sure. But I’m a fan of all the Blazers. If I didn’t care for Rudy at all, I’d just be saying “trade him trade him. he’s a bum.” It’s not like I’m glad he’s in this funk. I really hope he pulls out of it soon. But just because I say he seems to be lacking mental toughness doesn’t mean i’m not a fan of his.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].

He’s not shooting well—it’s either a confidence issue or an injury issue. If he says he has lingering injury issues, that’s a ticket to the bench. If he says it’s confidence issues, we get to call him a whiner.
i expect him to say he’s going to keep working hard, get his shot back and then show some results.

he said his confidence is down
It happens. Basically all our bench players are short on confidence at this point. If Martell or Jerryd gave the number of interviews Rudy does (to the European press), they would probably say similar things. To single out Rudy because he has all these Eurosport and Marca reporters bugging him for quotes isn’t fair.
when your coach constantly micromanages you
its easy to lose confidence….look at how many players have had confidence issues under nate. hell nate even toyed with batums confidence last year when he yo-yoed on who would start.

Oh Batum did complain about his last-minute yanking in the first game against LA. But directly to Nate, and then that got relayed to the press. Later he stated to the French press that he felt his skills get underused “doing the Portland” (i.e. standing in the corner just waiting for threes). But he never complained about playing time.
I also don’t think Rudy complains as much as the media makes it out to sound. In that interview he just said he is disappointed in himself more than anything else. That he is a bit lonely is almost a given. Anybody away from home sometimes is.
agreed
i think a lot of it gets lost in translation…and i think the media likes putting thoughts in our heads.

Needs more salary. I would assume CB4 wants to make more than 12 million when foregoing 17 million he would already have.
Not impossible, and I think his character while more of a self-confident star would fit well in Portland. At least not as bad as other major stars. But still, chances are way low.

What do you guys think of Jermaine O'Neal?
He’s had a quietly productive year and he’s still a good defender. What would be a fair contract, do you suppose?
i think OKC should for sure pursue him.
something like 4 years and 28 million would be good….

they are SO reliant on goalscoring from that position
A lot of people say that Xavi and Iniesta are the keys to Barcelona’s success, but they clearly need that maurading striker. The two years where they didn’t win the title coincided with Ronaldinho getting fat and lazy, but were before the completion of Messi’s ascendance.
the selling of players is the most fascinating thing about the sport, to me. I can’t imagine a team selling LeBron like Ronaldo was sold.

I also like the “renting out” part of younger players to develop. If you are unlucky, that team plays you in an important game, and your guy on loan kills you. HEY, you have just proven your worth. Unfortunately it ruined our season.
i love that
a lot of teams put clauses in their loan contracts that they can’t play against you though.
And for big clubs its a way for younger guys to develop
Without sitting on the bench.

Ok, how 'bout Tiago Splitter, then?
What do you think Splitter would be worth, both on the open market and if you were only bidding against Real Madrid?
He is going to the Spurs, there is only bidding between Madrid and them. I think he’ll get most of the MLE.
There’s worry in San Antonio that they won’t be able to pull him away from Madrid for the MLE and will have to dump his rights since they can’t go over cap to sign him.
hahahah

@HDOOM: this is @MartellWebster ’s world, we just live in it. Marty has been the man tonight

Martell Webster??
Is he famous….I know he is on that NBA commercial about intensity …but does anyone actually recognize him??
Rudy: ""McMillan has a philosophy of play and I do not think that will change by giving him a hug."’
Seems like he's pretty not-liked-much right now
I know we all have to hate SOMEONE, and with no Sergio, Blake, or Outlaw, all that is left that makes sense is Bayless and Marty, with a lil’ Rudy mixed in after a bad game.
#52
i don’t hate Martell…i love him…just never been fond of him as a player for us over Outlaw…
people call me crazy then, and crazy now, but i’m sticking to my nunchucks
fiftytwo
I still say his ability to play defense makes him worth a lot more
His offense is streaky as all git out, but he’s a MUCH better player in transition (Outlaw was never good at getting up and down the court and scoring on the fastbreak), much better defender, and more aware player.
He’s just also a spazz.
Off the bench, spot minutes, or starter because of injuries, I like Marty more for all he does aside from just shooting erratically.
#52
Martell can go out, play 15-20 minutes, not score more than 5 points, and still help the team
You can’t really say the same for Outlaw, under the same scenario.
#52
i have to disagree. besides the Lakers and maybe OKC game, i dont’ remember him contributing without first scoring. i’m sure he has but i refuse to believe it.
one miss shot or one failed assignment by Martel within a game and we lose him.
as for Outlaw, he can come in cold at whatever time and help the team.
Marty has been more of a defensive liability than many us have hoped for this season

the shot making down the stretch sucked both ways. Smith missed a layup and Singler airballed a mid range jumper. Duke was up 5 with 2 minutes left and almost blew it by leaving Howard open for layups.
Duke was unable to put the hammer down as they usually did

MMOD?
online? ya thats FANTASTIC
however their TV coverage left a lot to be desired. I find it unfathomable and abhorrent that I have to watch a game with 5 minutes to go when a 1 point game with 30 seconds to go is on. SWITCH ME THE F OVER NOW DAMNIT.. I can come back to watch freaking duke after the other one is over. I despise that they force you to watch a boring game when a good one is going one.

some of the other problems
is that since the “”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi_Game" target="new">Heidi Bowl" it has been written into the contracts to show the game that require the game to be shown in the entirety and not be prempted.

this is strictly a comparison of the two. I am not a huge LMA fan.
However, you really underrate LMA’s defense. The synergy data showed he was a bit underrated, right?
LMA not playing defense? That’s ridiculous.

We’ve been over this and over this, but that synergy data showed he was a bad post defender and did not cover 2ndary defense, which is where he really kills you. He’s not big Al bad on defense though, that’s true.

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
yeah
Barca beat Inter up in the group stages. However, I would never count out a Mourinho team, and particularly Eto’o will want to show them up. Inter is also the kind of team that might be able to get them—they are more physical in the midfield and can sit back and score on the counter. They should aim to replicate Chelsea’s performance last year.

looks like its a whopping 14. Wow. Stanford lost by 12 @ UConn earlier this year. I like the Cardinal to cover but fall short.
if i gambled on sports, which i don’t, i might actually take the points but UConn to win. 14 is a lot of points. even with Uconn rolling. they only beat the last team by 20 right? and Stanford is the only team that can sorta stand up to them?
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious [stuff].
Yeah, UConn beat Baylor by 20.
Stanford actually led the game @UConn by 2 at halftime. UConn went on like a 30-4 run and led by 20 in the 2nd half though, final was 80-68.
Stanford has a huge frontcourt, 3 legit double double threats on any given night, and Nneka Ogwumike has been unstoppable of late.
UConn is UConn though.
I agree— if I were a betting man, I’d take Stanford to cover but UConn to win.

Norsktroll's 2010 MLE options in no particular order and not the full one for all of them
Raymond Felton (UFA), Josh Childress (RFA), Hakim Warrick (UFA), Brad Miller (UFA), Kwame Brown (UFA. Yes, somewhat seriously), C.J. Watson (RFA), Luis Scola (RFA), Earl Watson (UFA), Travis Outlaw (UFA), Shannon Brown (player option to become UFA), Josh Powell (UFA), Udonis Haslem (UFA), Luke Ridnour (UFA), Kurt Thomas (UFA), Kris Humphries (player option to become UFA), Darius Songaila (ETO), Etan Thomas (UFA), Matt Bonner (UFA), Kyle Korver or Mike Miller maybe just to have a shooter (UFA), Josh Howard (UFA after team waives him), David Lee (LOL), Marcus Camby (UFA)
And: Joel Freeland
The reason I like Mike Miller
Is for many of the same reasons Hedo was attractive— big shooter who can handle the ball well and make plays, but he won’t be anywhere as expensive as Hedo, just about as ugly.
If getting Scola was possible, sign me up.
#52
Me too. I also forgot Randy Foye. It's unlikely the Wizards will make him a qualifying offer, or at least more than that.
Foye to back up Roy? The joke alone would be worth it.
Any idea how bad his injury is right now?
He’s out for the last few games, not sure how bad it was or whatever.
He’d be fine if gotten cheap, but he’s just so blah… doesn’t really do much. I’d rather gamble on Rudy being closer to last year’s Rudy again, over Foye.
#52
How about a heavily discounted Josh Howard? Gate A: A fringe all-star when healthy, one of the best perimeter defenders in the game, does everything well but nothing great, not a bad guy at all but does dope. Gate B: Martell Webster.
i think we learned that pot heads do not flourish well here

If we can get the minutes straightened out
And Howard was fine being behind Batum, sure— sign me up.
A few short years ago, he was the ideal for a Blazers SF.
#52
He had slowed down considerably on defense
Is now being a coach on the Warriors while being injured. Not sure how he’d be anymore.
#52
And as noted your friend Josh Childress is also again on the list, though I think I read he prefers playing out his contract in Greece so Olympiacos gets what they paid for (1 more year).
As long as he's still the ball-handling good defending smart-shot taking wing he used to be
Hate that form on his shot, but he was a smart player.
#52
He's still good. He might also smoke weed, but he's a nice smart guy ;)
He’s currently 6th in the league in PER (24.8, 18.4 in the Euroleague), 5th in points per possession, 2nd in points per game, and so on. He would basically be the billionaire’s version of re-signing Ime Udoka.
Nice!
How much does he make in Greece, roughly? Was it about 7 million a year? Or more above the MLE than that…
I don’t mind if guys smoke weed! Especially if they play hard and play smart.
#52
Via NYT
He received a three-year, $20 million contract from Olympiacos, making him the highest-paid basketball player in the world outside of the N.B.A. With his housing, Volvo, chef, telephone and Greek taxes paid for by the team, Childress estimated he would take home about $6 million this season, about twice as much as he would have had he played in the N.B.A.
"I get paid double, my role increases, I have no expenses and I move to a nice city?" Childress said. "How many guys wouldn’t do that, regardless if you’re a lawyer or a doctor? In a business sense, if I were to tell people that I passed on that deal, I would be stupid. That would be the next headline: Josh Childress Shouldn’t Have Gone to Stanford. He’s an Idiot."
My main problem with someone like that would be not so much that they aren't good, but that Nate would again play them above Nic and scramble with his rotations
Hopefully Batum will be considered "entrenched" as the SF
Mike Miller can play SG and SF though, so it’d kinda be taking over what we’d hope Rudy could be.
It might be forcing Roy to play more PG though, and finding minutes for Miller and yada yada.
I just hadn’t considered him as a MLE target yet.
#52
Brad Miller? Really?
He looked rather bad in all the games I saw. Did he have a revival over last 20 games or something?

I don’t care whether you PREFER to watch mens or womens. Personally, I like the NBA more than the WNBA, but only because the games sometimes get a little slow. When its the Olympics however I love to watch womens as well because the games get more intense, and obviously our womens team is STACKED with talent.

one of the problems with women's sports
is that not enough women are encouraged to do sports. This is an issue in of itself, but I’d like to make a specific point about the lack of women in sports as compared to men. I think this is why a team like UConn can absolutely dominate the sport in a way that can’t be accomplished in by the males. There’s less talent because there are fewer people, so any concentration of talent (UConn) can dominate because there’s less talent out there to compete with them.
It’s like when the Fakers and Celtics dominated the NBA in its early years. There wasn’t that much basketball talent so when those 2 teams had a high concentration of talent they were able to dominate. There was little to stop them.

I agree with this.
So many girls start out doing sports but then quit later in life to focus more on school or other activities. I think that boys feel more pressure from not only their families but also social norm to stay in sports, and girls don’t really have this aspect. Pressure probably isn’t the right word here, but what I’m saying is that boys are more encouraged to do sports than girls, basically.

Question: Is it possible for a women to ever compete with men in a sport?
like someone from the wnba going and playing for the nba.
i know danika patrick but thats different, its racing cars, and that golfer i guess counts but is it possible for a team sport?
a woman won a bowling tournament against men this year.
In basketball, as Morty has suggested, it would have to be someone with a Serena Williams body type playing PG. Not imminent, but never say never.
Hey, nice, you remembered!
Yeah, it’d have to be a huge genetic outlier… even moreso than Lebron is for men.
#52
Why is Lebron such an outlier anyways?
Is it his quickness?
"If we win a title, I promise not to hate on anyone associated with the Blazers for 1 full season" - jksnake99
"...black on black. my favorite!" - portlandgiirl91
HUGE size, speed and quickness and agility to go with that size.
He’s built like a good-sized PF, but with PG skills.
#52
Lots of people ("lots" in relative terms) are that size
Almost none move like he does, and has that sort of explosion and agility— to go along with the coordination and skills he has.
#52
It’s like finding a 7 footer who has good hands and a good shooting touch. Only with 1 additional very dominant skill.
I spose we can attribute skills to genes.
I don’t normally think that way but Lebrons pretty coordinated for being so big.
"If we win a title, I promise not to hate on anyone associated with the Blazers for 1 full season" - jksnake99
"...black on black. my favorite!" - portlandgiirl91
He is. He is not the most coordinated in the league, but he is the most coordinated at his bulk. He’s not the best shooter, not the best passer, etc. But all of those skills in one person, at his size, that’s the uniqueness. His superpower is scoring around the rim at will like a bigger player, while being able to dribble like a smaller player.
Yeah
I guess I just try to narrow it down but can’t cause he has it all.
"If we win a title, I promise not to hate on anyone associated with the Blazers for 1 full season" - jksnake99
"...black on black. my favorite!" - portlandgiirl91
I don’t think there’s a player exactly like him in NBA history. Funnily, I think Carmelo is the closest thing to him right now, and might be the closest thing ever.
I can agree with this.
I hear the Magic comparisons but I never watched him so I cant draw any conclusions.
"If we win a title, I promise not to hate on anyone associated with the Blazers for 1 full season" - jksnake99
"...black on black. my favorite!" - portlandgiirl91
He's like Magic in that they both are huge and dribble and pass really well
He’s quite a bit more athletic than Magic was, and more of a defender.
#52
I only watched the tail end of Magic’s career. At that time, he didn’t strike me as that athletic or bulky though I think they have about the same weight and are both around 6’9".
He was bulky
But not as bulky and thick and BUILT like Lebron.
Lebron’s body type and agility and skills are one of a kind.
#52
He's Carmelo
With less of a jumper, so he drives more, and quite a bit quicker and more explosive, and a great eye for passing, but both with a similar huge frame that moves extremely well.

An Italian team (think a kind of Clippers) made an offer to the two best female soccer players in the world
Don't think so
Prinz is a two-time world champion, five-time european champion, 3-time Olympic medalist, 3-time UEFA cup winner, 9-time national champion, 4-time top scorer, most goals in world championship history (14), most goals and games in Olympic games history (10 and 19), 2-times world soccer player of the year.
I think in pool billiard there are strong female competitors. Not a team sport of course.
In snooker I don’t think so, at least not top 25
Those billiards matches are kinda bizarre
In the ones I’ve seen, the ladies dress up in evening gowns. Makes me question whether you can call pool a sport.
They normally don't.
Normally they’re in basically normal outfits, same as the guys.
Billiards is more a skill than a sport, but I don’t mind it as ESPN. They don’t normally use the women as eye candy.
Biathlon mixed relay you can in theory have women run against men, but typically they start 2 women first and then 2 men
In bobsleigh you have to have at least 1 woman in the relay
Oops, Biathlon mixed is not Olympic (yet). But it's an official discipline, with world championships.
Germany won 2 weeks ago. It’s beneficial to weaker nations who often can’t come up with 4 good men and/or 4 good women.
I believe a woman had been invited to NBA training camp before
I could be wrong. I believe it was the Suns, long ago.
I think it would be an extremely rare situation (like, a 1 in 20 billion type physical build, and actually being a woman, etc)… a Lebron-type woman. Like Serena Williams, but perhaps even sturdier.
She’d be a PG (strength in female athletes is easier to find in that size), super skilled, and quick enough to be in the NBA. Built like a Serena.
It won’t likely happen, but that’d be how it would happen for the NBA.
#52
Couldn’t it be someone with amazing ballhandling and shooting skills? In theory. Say, a 6’6" better J.J. Redick who is a liability on defense but would score like crazy?
What good would the ballhandling be though?
What percentage of WNBA players do you think could successfully penetrate at the NBA level? Do you think you could even fill one hand?

I bet a quick PG, at least one, prolly a few
Can penetrate with quickness and ballhandling, but wouldn’t do well with how much they’d get knocked around trying to penetrate. And would prolly still be a step slower than their male counterparts amongst the players in the 8-12 range on the bench.
#52
Anything is possible
I think a 6’6" female who can move enough to do ANYTHING but be a spot up shooter (even Korver does more than just that, even if it’s all he does really) wouldn’t be as feasible as a built-like-a-rock 6 footer.
Like Lisa Leslie, one of the best female basketeers, I don’t even think she is 6’6" and she is a giant for female basketball. She’s great, but it’d be hard to imagine someone that size being strong/quick/sturdy enough in a female body.
It COULD happen, but I just think it’s even less likely than my already-unlikely scenario.
Either way, it’d be an extreme genetic outlier, and would be very rare. But possible.
Either as a Earl Watson-type PG (just picking a random, not great but not awful back up short PG), or a Kyle Korver, I dunno.

Not a fan of Rousseau, but this line was really good.
[S]ince men enjoyed very great leisure, they used it to pursue many kinds of commodities unknown to their fathers, and that was that first yoke they placed upon themselves without thinking about it, and the first source of evils the prepared for their descendants. For, besides continuing thus to soften body and mind, as these commodities had lost almost all their pleasantness through habit, and as they had at the same time degenerated into true needs, being deprived of them became much more cruel than possessing them was sweet; and people were unhappy to lose them without being happy to have them." -Jean-Jacques Rousseau

It's because he doesn't impact the game aside from scoring.
And a good portion of the scoring comes from fast break layups or free throws.

I was referring to the eyeball impact.
Defensive rebounds aren’t exactly eye popping.
His block rate is nothing to brag about. Defensively, he’s not a disruptor.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
he looks a lot more impressive in the box than just watching the game, by the nature of what he does.

scoring efficiently isn't necessarily eye-popping
some of Roy’s best nights are very quiet, same with Carmelo. Some of Kobe’s worst nights are all over ESPN.
Getting to the FT line and making easy shots isn’t impressive in real time, but is important.
although, I would say that his efficiency comes from the foul line and easy fastbreak points that are a virtue of their aggressive defensive philosophy. So it’ll be interesting to see if the whistles tighten up in the playoffs.
I’m also not sure people realize just how many easy layups he gets on the break.
#52
I am afraid that the whistles aren’t gonna tighten up.

the defenders are better and slyer in the playoffs.
although Durant’s whistle drawing has been pretty remarkable, and has not even really required contact, so we shall see.
I bet he'll still get a lot of calls
He has a game designed for that, and it works extremely well.
#52
He’s not. But last year he was a defensive liability unable to defend a pick and roll, now that is much harder to argue. When he matched up with Brandon for a few plays, I felt like he could still score while he was bothering Brandon a lot on his end.
last comment before I step out of the debate for today: I find the nitpicking of Durant’s game ridiculous. The guy is unbelievable.

Sure, it's fun as heck to watch
but I really don’t want Nic HAVING the desire to take over the game offensively. He’s at a minimum fourth on the list after Roy LMA and healthy Greg in terms of offensive options. Batum getting the ball and saying, “Screw it, I’m getting a shot up this possession” is gonna be a bad possession more often then not.

I don’t think he would neccessarily be jacking up a shot on every possession. His passing ability might allow him to pass off of the drive. I’d want him to be more of a driving threat.

Here's what I would (try) to do this off season
Slip something in the water cooler at Raptor’s headquarters then offer them
Aldridge, Rudy, Bayless, JPEC, picks, euros, cash and a happy ending for Bosh+filler in a sign and trade. No Batum. Basically, whatever it takes except Batum. Well, maybe Batum, I’m not sure.
Resign Camby if possible.
Sign a backup PG with the mid-level exception (roughly in order): Kyle Lowry (RFA), Mario Chalmers (TO, could be let go if Miami clears as much cap space as possible), Will Bynum (RFA), Nate Robinson (FA), Luke Ridnour (FA), Steve Blake (FA).
Miller/Lowry

Batum/Webster
Bosh/Dante

ok so um I dont see how the thunder doing good corresponds with a bombing that happened 15 years ago
That’s nothing. Try: They may charge all the way to home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs when the first round of the playoffs opens the week of the 15th anniversary of the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building, with President Clinton scheduled to be in town for ceremonies. The Thunder, by making up the 1 1/2-game deficit to finish in the top four in the conference, could even host a game April 19, the date a guy with a grudge against the government for Waco and Ruby Ridge parked a Ryder truck with 4,800 pounds of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil in front of the nine-story structure, put in ear plugs to protect himself from what would come next, set a timer and jogged to a getaway car parked in a nearby alley.
If there is a Thunder love fest that night, said Kari Watkins, the executive director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, "you’ve got to wonder if it’s someone bigger than us telling us, ’You’ve done it. You’ve come full circle. Now keep going.’ "

This is a big off-season for them - if they can draft or develop a post presence,
they become a very real threat in the West. Ibaka has some promise as a rebounder and defender, but I don’t know how good of an offensive presence he can be on the block. Udoh from Baylor would be a great pick for them

It might just be jealousy
at seeing the Blazers’ sun eclipsed, but I do ask myself if OKC’s talent is subject to some of the same kind of overrating that Portland’s might have been. How good is Jeff Green really and how much better is he going to be? What if James Harden is just another Martell? We’ll see how they develop, but we of all fanbases know that it’s not a linear growth rate by any stretch of the imagination just because you think it should be.

The 2007 draft could have gone very differently without changing the Brandon and LaMarcus combo
That’s semi-realistic. The rest has too many variables.
Hard to say if we'd have been in a position to get both LMA and Brandon if we had Williams.
Very possible we’d end up with one or the other, and I’d suspect it would have just been LMA.
wouldn’t it have been more likely that we got Roy, since we traded for him and LMA was our actual draft pick?

Thomas was our pick i thought. didn’t we trade of LA with Chicago?

Yep. I think we'd have upped our offer for a big guy, since Williams would have made Brandon a lower priority.
we traded our pick and Khryapa for LMA. Point was, we already had the fourth pick.
We got Roy by trading Bassy.
