They'll probably work something out

I really hope they do. Frye seems to like it there and I think he works well for that system. Frye is a good guy and is due a nice pay day this summer.

Based on how he played this year, he'll get more than 2.1 million.

We’ll see if it’s with the Suns or somewhere else. I hope he stays in Phoenix. It’s a good fit for him.

And while I wish him a long and prosperous career, I also want him to retire soon so he can come back to Portland.

Still on the Rex bandwagon.

Because when he was here he was well liked.

On and off the court he was a good guy. You don’t turn your back on a player just because they get traded.

by Mattco26 on Apr 4, 2010 7:31 PM PDT up reply actions

i never turned my back on him

i simply stated that i dont care if he declined his player option because it is irrelevant to the Blazers, and it is also good for frye because he now has a choice of where to go and for bigger money in free agency after his career year.

so im actually rooting for him while other people (you among them) think i am speaking ignorance while your own ignorance stops you from seeing the truth i speak.

if you don't care then don't post (truth)

and don’t reply to people who get irritated at your jerk comment… or are you too ignorant to know it was a jerk comment?

A big man who can shoot like him is a commodity.

there arent exactly loads of guys who are 6’10-7 ft tall that can shoot threes. that fits most anywhere.

although most teams would rather have guys like bogut, bynum, oden howard. the tall shooters are still good too.

by YikesItsCameron on Apr 4, 2010 1:24 PM PDT reply actions

Frye might as well be 6’4", imo. Being big isn’t much of a plus if you never come inside the three point arc.

. Nor is it when your PG has more inside moves than you do – meet LaMaracus Aldridge.

Treat people well because Karma can hit you at any second.

by Net Ranger on Apr 4, 2010 11:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Miller has more post moves than most PFs in the league, make no mistake.

And LaMaracus [sic] at least goes to the jump hook or alley-oop a couple times a game. Not sure I’ve ever seen Channing “Chandler” Frye go hard to the lane for a jump hook. Pretty sure LMA abused Frye in practice every day for the last couple years, haha.

by Marvin100 on Apr 5, 2010 6:05 AM PDT up reply actions

and it doesnt matter what team he shoots the outside jumpers for

people are still saying its a good asset, but its a sin for lamarcus

by 64-18 on Apr 5, 2010 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I disagree...

having a stretch big is huge. You can draw the opposing bigs out of the key. The stretch big can run the high-low post game and can give better entry passes than a post playing big. I think if you have a guy that dominates the inside like Amare you almost need a stretch to play alongside him (at least on the offensive side of the ball).

by Escrote on Apr 5, 2010 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions

All we have to do is look at Phoenix play this year vs last

Of course it is not all about Channing, but he certainly has helped. I forget who that other big guy they had was …?

Marvin

Just for informational purposes, Channing is not only taller than six ft four inches, he is also very long. He is in better playing shape this year as well. He has been blocking some shots, getting more rebounds than your typical short guy, and defending other teams centers and power forwards. Oh, and he hits a three now and then as well. The comparison does not seem to apply as far as what I can see. Most short guys guard short guys, not centers.

you mean a guy like say LaMarcus

who many people on here complain about because he is a tall outside shooter.

but somehow its good when frye does it

by 64-18 on Apr 4, 2010 11:37 PM PDT up reply actions

It wasn't last year. This year Frye extended his range past the 3pt line, which is a far more efficient shot than a long 2 like LMA shoots.

Also, Frye is much more valuable in Phoenix’s system than ours.

by austinpwnz on Apr 4, 2010 11:39 PM PDT up reply actions

he shot outside last year too.

not 3 pters as much, but 18-20 footers

by 64-18 on Apr 5, 2010 1:14 PM PDT up reply actions

thats pretty much true.

They'll pay him more than $2.1M, that's for sure.

If they pay him more than about $5M, they’ve got rocks in the head.

Yeah, 5 million per year, and about three or four years would be what I see him signing for.

maybe up to six, but no higher.

I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Martell-like deal was my first thought.

Well, seeing as how they'll have to use the MLE

to sign him to anything larger than $2.4 million, I don’t think there’s any fear of Frye signing for more than about $5.8 million…..

Phoenix has long had a notoriously tight fisted strategy.

Big money stars are paid- Nash & Amare. Everyone else, not so much. And don’t even think about depth. Grant Hill makes 3 mill.
Surprisingly though, J Richardson makes 13 mill. I would guess his slot goes back to Marion, through Shaq, and is presently being wasted on one of the worst dollar for dollar performers in the NBA.
I would suggest that role players, particularly back-up shooters who don’t bring much else, are not a priority. If Frye’s new contract demand was to position the Suns anywhere near the Luxury Tax threshold, well, aloha also means goodbye.

hrm..hawaii needs an NBA team

"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.

"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."

-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

Yeah, Richardson was given his contract by Golden State

then traded to Charlotte and then traded to Phoenix….

So the Suns didn’t make the original offer to J Rich, but they did agree to pay to him his current deal….

Looks like a smart move after a breakout year

There will be a lot of teams with money. More importantly for Frye, there will be teams who need a fill in guy for 4-5 million after spending most of their cap on a big name.

looks like Frye planned ahead

last summer he and his agent said “we can sign low with PHX, get some nice stats in that system, then play the market for a bigger payday next summer” Can’t fault him for that

When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

I don't like Frye much anymore

couldn’t hit the rim for his life with us. suddenly comes out and makes 5 threes a game

by collectiveshane on Apr 5, 2010 9:43 PM PDT reply actions

He would have been paid more if the season ended at 40 games

Phoenix has been much better since they inserted Lopez as the starting center. Freed up Amare and gave them better D presence and balance. Frye is an after thought now or situational 3 point shooter. He is softer than LMA. You can’t rely on that for 82 games or the playoffs.
