LMA for Kevin Love?
I would see if this works in the ESPN trade machine but my work blocks it. If Twolves wanted Rudy+pick I would do that as well, and they can throw in Brewer or something as future trade fodder/match salaries, or some kind of 3 team deal...I dunno particulars.
I figure T-wolves would love a unleashed Rudy(sell some tickets) as a starting SG and another 1st/2nd round pick to keep rebuilding. Not only that, but Love/Jefferson were too similar really to mesh well, LMA might be what they need to open things up more, along with Rudy striking from distance. LMA also can filll in as 2nd option like he's used to and perhaps even get more looks.
I know LMA has a pretty decent upside, but he should have had better PPG/RB/Blk with another year under his belt and Oden/Pryz/Roy/Rudy out so much, yet his stats are eerily similar to 2008-9. We have all heard the soft stuff, the 20ft jump shots etc etc, and it's true for the most part, especially when so many folks from broadcasters, coaches, experts and fans all say the same thing over and over for months.
So what about Kevin Love?
PRO:
- Guy is from Oregon, LO, Dad went to Oregon, we all know about Klove.
- Slower and plodding better fit Nate's style(assuming he's still here, which is most likely),
- Groomed to be great from father and study of the game/veteran players, higher BB IQ than LMA(higher upside?)
- MUCH better rebounder/inside presense. Offensive rebounding off the charts. Coupled with Oden we would have two of the best rebounders around...not to mention Camby spelling both.
- Still has outside range including a solid 3point shot(33/100 roughly) which will spread floor/space for Oden. Either get better shot or maybe drop down/stop altogether the threes a bit ala Josh Smith.
- Underated athlete-can dunk over people/put backs/STRONG.
- Better passer, especially his famous EPIC outlets
- Younger
- Dare I say SUPER WHITE P-town identify better with Klove? One of the few American born GOOD white players in the league. Better get him locked down before THIS guy gets him...
- Packaging Rudy also allows for more time for Batum/Bayless/Webster. Possibly even more development for Pendy/Cunningham as Love might not play 38ish minutes like LA did, but more like 32-33min.
Con:
- Not a defensive force by any means. Lower blks thatn Aldridge. But is her soft? Or just not a shot blocker? How is his 1:1 post D/positioning etc? Rotation quickness on pick/roll?
- LMA could explode on us and be another Jermaine O'Neal type?
- Love injury prone? Missed first part of season with a foot injury if I recall? Anything prior
- Break up team moral/nucleus?
I'm actually using the ultra-scientific/accurate preview method of said trade via NBA 2k10, and with a steady diet of looks, Love had 39/12/6(assists) in the first game. :}
------------
Overall, if we do stick with LMA into next year, I truly hope he does improve and step up because I do like the guy, and he's been here since day 1 and tapped as the triumvirate..and just feels a bit premature to perhaps trade him...but it's worth a look as we enter the OFFSEASON(aka SPECULATE LIKE CRAZY TIME)
Also, if anyone has any other viable trades involving LMA I'm all ears.
Cheers!

Salaries don't even come close to matching. This would be an impossible trade.
I would need to see the final package before making an evaluation on a trade that involves Lamarcus.

I figured as much, would have to be multiple parties perhaps. Anyone care to throw in the machine?

Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
And he is also hated by a lot of people in P-town
He and his family are widely perceived by many people as turd sandwiches. I don’t know them, personally, and wouldn’t make a claim that they really suck as human beings, but I just have talked to a lot of people who knew Kevin and feel this way. Personally, I don’t have an opinion of Klove, but I’d be wary of adding someone with OR ties that Oregonians can’t root for, like Aaron Brooks, Luke Ridnour, or Kyle Singler.
well the whole UCLA over Oregon put people in a big stink fo sho.

Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
why wouldn't oregonians root for brooks/ridnour?
or am i getting that backwards because I hate Duke/Singler

Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
I voted yes
I’m not sure which player is better, but I do know I’d rather have the next two years of KLove at 3.5 mill a year than the next two years of LA at 10 mil/yr.
No
Kevin Love is not a cool person
Hello ladies. Look at your man. Now look at Brandon Roy. Now back at your man. Now back to Brandon Roy. Sadly, he is not Brandon Roy.
I dont get how people want to jump ship on LA
Ya he isn’t a banger… that doesn’t mean we trade him for a bag of skittles… For our team our Center is meant to be the main offensive banger…. injuries prevented that this season…. Unless trading LA yields us someone like Bosh (cant possibly see how that could actually happen) we don’t want to trade him….
Also…LA doesn’t make too much…. not if you do the math based off his production and compare it to other players of his talent and age… Just because we had a bunch of dirt cheep rookie deals doesn’t mean you should expect everyone to make 2-3 mil forever… we are growing out of the up and coming category into the contending category…. that means our players are going to start getting paid what they deserve…

He should have averaged 20/15 this series easy
don’t even use those Phoenix double-teams as an excuse

maybe...i blame nate also
i think nate should say lamarcus go in the post. or sit. and i think the management and fans would back that if they know anything about basketball. we could replace what he did this series (shoot 15 ft. Js with Dante in there IMO) that series we had 0 back to the basket play because camby cant post either only scores off open top of the key Js or O rebs. i love Lma but he needs to post more. what if we never get GO back we will have no post threat. and he needs to REBOUND! however, trading him for kevin love is an insane proposal. not to mention never going to happen when the management just gave him a deal like he got we obvisouly value him too much…
by deliverence31 on May 1, 2010 9:05 AM PDT up reply actions
Thats what i mean
The comment that “we value him to much”…….. his contract is right in line with what people make that produce the numbers he does…. We have just got really really accustomed to rookie deals cause well… we were not so good for awhile… we had lots of rookie deals..
I’m not saying he doesn’t have areas he could improve in. I would love to see him get more post moves and add 1-2 boards a game… Though we should appreciate the fact that his jumper is good enough to help spread the floor, he runs the floor better than most bigs, and he is agile enough to defend guards when he gets a switch near the 3pt line…
And yes… if GO doesn’t come back it’ll be bad (I still think he will though confidence will take long time)… the team is built for a powerhouse center and agile pf..

I agree with you
Not because that’s what we needed, but because that’s what he is capable of in the situation. I can see trying to involve others in the regular season, but should have been playing balls to the wall in the playoffs.
But at the same time
I think he’ll benefit a lot from Oden coming back, or at least the team will. Kinda like Dwight and Rashard Lewis, only younger.
Can we really rely on him?
I say we prepare for life without Oden & anything we get from him is a bonus. Find a raw young center to learn from Camby, add another strong defensive pivotman behind Aldridge(or KLove if we went that route) like Turiaf.
by IndustrialRevolution on May 1, 2010 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions
well I would have taken 22-23/10. 15 is a bit much for him when he has his 3 rebound games.

Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
funny thing I was being sarcastic
Lamarcus wasn’t put in a position to put up those kind of numbers. Several factors at play- 1. Utah aggressively double-teamed him, both when he caught the ball and at times when he made a move. 2. McMillan is responsible for not putting Lamarcus in a position to catch the ball down low. 3. When Lamarcus got doubled, there were no cutters. Blazer teammates were slow and statuesque.
I’d say Phoenix gets a ton of credit for the defensive adjustments they made after game one. In regard to Lamarcus, they simply were not going to let him go off and they successfully clamped down on him. Lamarcus needed more help from his teammates to counter that and it never occurred.
I think Lamarcus is capable of 20/and well….10 would be stretching it. But he needs Greg Oden in the middle to occupy the defense and allow Lamarcus the freedom to shot that sweet upper middle range jumper. Expecting Lamarcus to put up numbers without the complimentary help he requires is simply asking to much.

Exactly
Expecting All Star numbers out of someone who has yet to have an All Star season without any real help is too much… Especially considering the defense was able to over compensate since he was the only genuine threat.. LA is not this teams major problem, he has room to improve… but I am WAY more concerned about our perimeter defense than LA

Plus we can't blame the loss to the Suns on LMA.
Nobody could shot a high percentage when he’s doubled teamed every time he touched the ball. Amare barely outplayed LMA and that was with us only doubling Amare in the paint. Defensively LMA did a pretty good job on him when Camby was sitting considering he had to defend him all by himself. 5blks in Game 6!
There is no way Love is in the same league as LMA, you all just want to blame him for us losing to the Suns when he tried the hardest. There were certain players that didn;t play nearly as well that should have done better.
ya you can.
when you are a good passer. LMA was acting like he never saw a double before.
by IndustrialRevolution on May 1, 2010 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions
That all doesn't rest on LMA
You gotta blame some of that on coaching and lack of offense. It’s hard to pass when no one is trying to get open. You’re right though, they were acting like they never saw a double before. As soon as the second defender leaves his man to put on the double team, that open man has to cut, get the ball and score ASAP. In 6 games, the Blazers couldn’t figure that out.
he was crazy slow. He could have had 5+ assist a game hitting open distance shooters.

Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
Absolutely.
Love is a team player who takes shots within the offense & is well versed at scoring on the inside something we desperately need. Not only that but his game is based on hustle not finess. Finally once contract extension comes he won’t be asking for the rediculous numbers we gave LA.
But I would want another good post defense pivotman behind him like Ronny Turiaf, or even a banger like Ben Wallace/DeJuan Blair etc.

77% say NO hehe pretty cut and dry.
Sorry we probably need to just stick with ONE or TWO trade posts but I thought this was soemthing that not many would think of initially.
Hell I didnt even factor in Love’s cheaper salary down the road even, as he would probaly be in the 7-8 range while still being more produtive than LA.

I can't believe no one has addressed the bigotry!
The whole premise of trading LA for Love is preposterous, but your reasoning that we would relate better to a white guy is demeaning to the people of Portland, offensive to all of our players, and a sign of your own racism. Maybe not many people have read this, which would be the only excuse for no comments addressing this.
This is really none of my business, but on the chance that I'm reading this post correctly ...
There’s a considerable difference between bigotry and pointing out the obvious racial demographics of the NBA and of Portland, as well as alluding to the prejudices of certain others. It is a sad fact that for some people, race is a factor in whether or not they like a particular player, or how much, or whether they are even fans of a particular sport.
I don’t think, based on what was written, that you can criticize the author of this fanpost for bigotry. Seems to me he’s trying to inject a bit of sarcasm into the discussion — always a difficult thing to pull off successfully (as I should know). Especially, note the Daily Show link. Maybe he should be given the benefit of a doubt, hmm?

lol yeah thanks for sensible words.
I’m far from a racist or bigot.
I was only saying that yes P-town is approx 74% white, 6.5% black.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland,_Oregon) and speaking on the terms of stereotypical white/black cultures, the predominantly whitebread P-town might relate better to someone who is similar in culture/background etc.As humans we tend to LIKE what is LIKE us, whether that is right or wrong that’s just the case more often than not it seems IMO.
Quantifying those attributes might be the stickier of the issue, but I think most of us can get a ballpark idea of those norms, attitudes, habits etc.
For all I know LA could come from very similar background as KLove, and both seem to be very likable guys, it’s just on face value perhaps more Portlanders based on sheer numbers may come to find a closer connection to a white player with similar background as themselves. Once again, right or wrong, who knows, but that’s my conjecture(guess).
Personally, if said NBA player was a hardcore gamer like myself, well that would be a bigtime factor with me identifying with him, white/black/asian whatever doesn’t matter. The only thing that might affect your affection further is what culture does this player most ascribe too on top of that gamer status? Nowadays a lot of folks are really a great mish-mash of cultures so I would say it’s harder to generalize, but our minds are constantly trying to put things into boxes/categories, despite our best efforts to get out of stereotypes, it’s just part of how we are wired as animals.
(bad anology but….If 95% of creatures with wings eat meat, then would you know for sure if the other 5% you encounter DIDN’T eat meat? Not to say 95% of white folk like Rock over Rap, but your brain will usually go there and then you have to manually backtrack to openess, unless you train it over time to not “auto-assume”…we predict/guess/assume so we can try and know the situation better..survival instincts etc.)
Perhaps it’s more of a Suburbs(Metro) vs Urban(Ptown proper) cultural question that could be thought about nation wide on how people identify with players, whom they claim as their favorite etc. As obviously these cultures can go beyond your skin color, just like your nationality.
Another example(s) of culture/race:
Zydrunas is much loved in Cleveland because of the ton of Lithunania/Ex-Soviet Bloc peoples who can identify with him.
Or would Allen Iverson, himself pretty polarizing when it comes to portraying the “gangsta”(i.e.had a lot of run ins with Stern over dress code) lifestyle predominantly made up of the black demographic, be more popular 6% black Portland, or the place he grew to star status in 42% black Philly?(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philedelphia) I don’t really know, but if my limited conjecture is followed you would think Philly might be a better suited home place and embrace him more than P-town. Who really knows.
In the end, it’s not rocket science, we tend to like people/players more like us than different. And unfortunately in our overly PC world today I don’t think we really like to even go there much, but it’s worth a good discussion without throwing around words like Bigot/Racist.
WIth the whole Arizona racial profiling issue, and the recent bomb scare in NY Times Square (did you ASSUME it was a Islamic Terrorist?Or maybe it was homegrown McVeigh style eh?.. knee-jerk reactions can be often wrong or right considering many factors…but universally a BAD IDEA to stick with your initial observations).
Did the pic of me holding fake guns with a fake Lincoln(at Enchanted Forest) somehow give the knee-jerk impression I was a Redneck or something?
He was the freaking Great Emancipator! ;) >>>>sarcasm interwebz

Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
I just noticed that you responded to my response.
Hopefully you will read this. You are trying, after the fact, to justify your comments. I still read your comment as purely referring to race. Portland is a white city, but it is also pretty liberal. There are some ugly racial events soiling Portland’s past, but this is a different time, with a different political and social environment. To insinuate that Portlanders could “relate” better to a white player than to a black player is disrespectful of the people of Portland. Are the people of Portland wishing that Lucas, Drexler, Porter, Kersey, Buck, Duck, Roy, Batum, Cheeks, and Nate were white so that they could really like them. The people of Portland, in my opinion, appreciate “heart” above all else. Hard work, hustle, humility, and talent are the “colors” we see.
You go off on a tangent that was not eluded to in your initial theory. You try to make us think that you were talking about cultural differences, not racial. Our players are, and have always been, from all over the world. While we can always root for the home boy, it is not nearly as important as the integrity and talent of the players.
You say “it’s just on face value perhaps more Portlanders based on sheer numbers may come to find a closer connection to a white player with similar background as themselves”. Why do you assume that a white player from Portland has a more similar background than a black kid from Texas? Do all white people from Portland have a similar background? Same religion? Same politics? Same ethnicity? Same interests? Same economic strata?
We embraced Rudy, Sergio, Nic, Sabonis, Khryapa, etc. especially because they were different, not in spite of it.
Yeah, what does your picture signify. I drew no conclusions from it, but it is confusing.
