according to the US CIS, the average Suns fan can only answer 9% of the questions correctly on the US Citizenship test. however, they did all answer the same one question correctly. you need 60% to pass the test. only 3.5 percent of Arizona high school students attending public schools passed the citizenship test. (http://www.goldwaterinstitute.org/article/3211)
basically, people in arizona are dumb. i know one person that is smart: ann. and that is now questionable since she is living among the racist suns fan.
here's the test. take it and report back your scores.

PORTLAND – Portland Trail Blazer starting forward Nicolas Batum has returned to Portland and will not play in tonight’s game at Phoenix. Batum, citing "certain immigration related issues" said he feels unsafe in the Arizona after that state’s governor signed a new law giving police wide powers to detain and arrest non-US citizens.
"I’m a citizen of France," Batum said, " plus, I’m black. You figure it out. Naturally I feel like an arrest waiting to happen. Rudy [Fernandez] isn’t too thrilled with the situation either."
Go Blazers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
peace. stay cool. forever

well, some of the ones i missed were cause of the special answers you had in there……
like the last question…..i say they win in 6 and get it wrong cause the right answer is they win in 6 AND 7. which makes no sense.
but there were some of the actual questions i did miss too.

He’s a shell of his former self.
Nicolas Batum AKA Mr. Third Quarter
On Josh Smith "He's strong as a 2nd curtain"
On Lebron "...it's hype, he's not a defender"
On Aaron Brooks "He's tiny, he has a small body but he's super fast and has a real gesture"
On Steve Nash "First we'll have to try and stop this Canadian guard, a young kid with a bright future!"
On Defense "They all piss me off with Dwight Howard...Guys like Bruce Bowen or Ron Artest were legit defensive men of the year. For me that's the profile of a denfender.
On The Playoffs "I don't want Dallas to win because I don't want Rodrigue to be NBA champion, I would be pissed. I don't want him to be NBA champion in his 1st year, this bastard....I put myself in mode asshole!"

curse of a big guy
Yao was worse than Oden when he first started, if I remember correctly.

I don't think so, sadly
I think Oden’s foul problems are pretty out there.
It should improve, I’m more concerned with the stay-healthy thang.
#52
I doubt that is a possibility
His injuries haven’t been that bad.
Let’s say he starts getting some real bad injuries that follow him forever— who knows. That’s a question that can be asked of anyone. When is the pain just too much?
Oden ain’t anywhere close to that.

Bogut played 33 games last year, and because he had never dunked before he didn’t know what to do and landed on his arm like a goofball. His pain might make him retire I bet.

when you have the option to watch either KGW or TNT what do you choose?
I’m pretty much always with the Mikes… but it’s fun sometimes (depending on who calling the game) to hear non Blazers announcers.
Always KGW
I get the KGW feed in HD, can’t get tnt in anything but the blurry mess where you can hardly tell who’s bringing the ball up unless it’s a close up.

I like watching the other one sometimes, but game 1? was delayed awhile and I heard some people missed the first couple minutes on tnt, while I caught the start on KGW.

the short yardage back CAN be used on 3rd downs. 3rd down backs are basically never used as a short yardage back
i'm pretty positive
i heard bettis referred to as a 3rd down back….i’m sure you know fb more than i do, but i know i heard that on a telecast, which led me to believe that 3rd down backs and short yardage ones are the same.

and he’s playing tough D. Bayless is pretty inconsistent, which is my biggest hark on him(I’m not in the majority on this site hating on Bayless) but this series, he’s been doing well.
Cake or Death?
imo
hes been just as bad on as many possessions as he is good on the others on defense. i’m not a bayless hater…as long as nate puts him in a role he can succeed in i am happy with his play. to me it doesnt seem like he can change on the fly and precommits to everything he does.

Refs are making some mistakes, but our absolutely epic fail at rebounding is killing us
And if Camby can’t come back, we’re screwed. If we lose by 2-3, I’ll blame the refs, if we lose by this many points, 100% our fault for not rebounding at ALL. PHX must have 400 second chance points.

you guys….seriously…..this is all FT.
we’re shooting 54% and are 5-7 from 3. they are shooting 47% and are 4-14 from 3.
it’s all rebounding and FT. if the FT disparity evens out even a little and we stop only the offensive rebounds they’re getting, we’ll win. i don’t see any fools gold for either team.

you almost can when they had out best rebounder in foul trouble 5 minutes in.
to say this game hasn’t been horribly called would be wrong.
also, they only have an 8 point advantage in 2nd chance points. that’s not insurmountable. but when you have that big a FT disparity to go along with it, it is.

i think it’s been closer than it looks.
PHX has just now hit 50% shooting. and it took a lot of minutes of garbage time to get there.
blazers are shooting nearly 47%.
i know there are probably other metrics and all that that i don’t get. but i think the game is much closer than the score makes it look. the Blazers were taken out of their game, especially on the defensive end, when they were handcuffed by the officials who called every touch foul they could.

i don’t know where to find the stat for second chance points…..but the last time they showed it that was only an 8 point differential. and we’re losing by 26.
it is a -10 rebound margin for us, but that does not equate to losing by 26. it just doesn’t. especially when FGA, FG%, assists, and TO are all really close. the only really glaring difference i can see in the box score is FTA and makes.
rebounding is next, yes….but the rebounding difference doesn’t equate to the kind of deficit we’re looking at now.

ok, so if the refs called a perfect game, we only would have lost by ~15 points. I could be convinced of that.
yeah, i’m not saying we for sure win if the refs call a good game, but we at least have a chance to win. in my mind, the refs robbed us of any opportunity to win beginning in the 2nd quarter

i just think that rebounding is not the main reason we lost this game. that’s all. but if a person doesn’t want to look at the officiating, it is the thing that will get pointed to as it led to the fast break point disparity.

in my mind rebounding is by far the #1 factor. 2nd would be terrible perimeter defense. reffing maybe 3rd.
i don’t know. you know way way way more about basketball than i do, but just from watching the game, it was pretty obvious to me that the officiating took Portland out of their game pretty early on. especially defensively.

Honestly, I feel horrible for Grant that he's going through this, but the way he's using
his own illness to call attention/raise money to fight Parkinson’s is pretty inspiring. I read an article (Portland Tribune, I think) where he discussed his condition, and one of the hardest things for him was getting comfortable being out in public due to the tremors he has at times. One of the things that got him over the hump was his desire to help others with Parkinson’s, and I’m glad he’s doing what he’s doing

One of the saddest things I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, I just learned about a serious tragedy today
I was having a relatively sad day because it was the 1 year anniversary of my doomed wedding. I stayed busy, didn’t think about it, tried not to be woe is me, but you know how that can go.
Then I find out that my friend’s wife’s little brother just killed himself. It was the friends I stayed with after the divorce. THAT is true problems and tragedy and sadness. Mine is nothing.
Neither is a game 5 loss on the road. It doesn’t really matter.

#52
The anniversary thingy started off as a "Hmm, interesting, time flies" type thing
Then I got about 12 calls and texts from people making sure I was okay, which made me talk and think about it, which just makes me annoyed with the whole situation. It’s kinda funny.
At first, when the calls start coming in, I’m like “whoa I’m popular today!”. It wasn’t like I was sitting around fuming about the whole thing, but when I’m made to think about it, I do get annoyed with the whole situation. I was starting to let it put me in a bad mood.
Then, of course, I get the call from my friend, and I just feel silly. It just isn’t a big deal. Even if others make it a big deal, I can’t let it affect me like a lil’ kid. And then I get annoyed with myself that I even needed a reminder. I’m annoying!
#52

if there was ever a series that got the idea of ‘pace’ statistics, this would be it. such an incredible disparity between when phoenix goes at their pace and portland gets the game at its ideal pace.
even tim legler, jalen rose, & co. can see the difference between when phoenix plays the game fast and when portland is able to ‘ugly it up’ and slow it down
the problem is that both happened tonight.

The refs lost game four for phoenix according to their fans...?
It’s an emotional response to a humiliating game. I think it’s funny how offended some people get when people mention the refs when a lot of times the people mentioning them are just trying to vent. Maybe their energy is misdirected, but most of the time it’s not being directed at people here, however some people take issue with it and then start instigating arguments with those who are blaming the refs. Shortly thereafter, the aim of the attacks surely turns towards fellow junkers and a bunch of people end up feeling butt-hurt.

cloudy, did you see Rob Neyer’s blog about Howard’s extension? It was something to the effect of “Albert Pujols’ agent’s salivary glands just exploded.”
Bobby Cox said Pujols is worth 50 a year.
I think Pujols will get at least 30 year, but more like 33.

I can buy that, but then why play Rudy in the 3rd before Nic when it was still (sort of) a game?
The way Rudy has played in 5 games, I’d shorten the wing rotation to Bayles and Nic starting, Roy and Martell off the bench. I have always been a Rudy backer, but he doesn’t have it this series and I would use him only if there are fouls/injuries

somehow, LMA ends up on the perimeter. When he is doubled out there, the ball only drifts around the outside
nobody cuts, and nobody posts up. The shot clock winds down and a huck is thrown up, with nobody in position to get an O rebound. No second chance points, and we cannot catch up like that because we waste too much clock getting no points.

they were so packing the middle tonight. I counted several times where they had three or more guys in the paint for well over three seconds

by Cablinasian on Apr 26, 2010 11:13 PM PDT up reply actions
yes… given the 19 footer is usually taken just below free throw line extended versus the three taken on the baseline… 3’s usually result in longer boards… shorter jumpers usually come down in the 5-8 ft. range

I don’t know that it matters much either way. Both are longer shots, so the caroms will be longer. The more impacting study would be how the trajectory of a player’s shot affects the rebound.

I've been the record for a while saying that if Aldridge isn't gonna be a consistent low post threat
his best option is to extend his range like Frye. Long 2s just aren’t efficient to make a living on. Take 2 steps back and shoot the 3 instead. Now, if he could be good (not great) at both then we have something. Maybe something like a Lewis/Jamison combination?

he doesn’t seem to understand that you don’t have to stand straight up and down when you attack off the dribble. He dribbles so high that basically anyone can knock the ball away. He’s never gonna be Dirk-like with his dribbling so he needs to be able to protect the ball for 1-2 dribbles.

yep. agree. but LMA should shoot it more to have it as a weapon. silly to argue to shoot all of them as 3s versus mixing them up.

if we go back to my original post, I agreed with this.

my argument stays the same
1) if he’s shooting jumpers, make them threes.
2) Channing is a way better player for having shot threes instead of twos.

Camby takes two per game, LMA five. We also have data to suggest that LMA could be effective out to three point range, unlike Camby.

but my question was if you thought all jump shooters should shoot 3’s instead of 2’s… not just LMA…

anyhow, we’ll disagree for the time being until you come around to my point of view next season… inn the meantime I’m going to bed
#10, #52
by The Arkitect on Apr 26, 2010 11:36 PM PDT up reply actions
as I stated in the post, I recommended him shooting them because we had at least a little data to suggest he would be proficient at it. If you can, you should take some threes with your twos.

I am sure it depends on the player and the situation
It’s not a rule set in stone.
LMA would be more efficient if he shot more 3s, out of the jumpers he already shoots— if he has to shoot too many jumpers.
#52
I don’t think anyone claimed all his long shots should be threes.

do you think, in the future, the mid range game will be virtually non-existent, due to the relative inefficiency of 15 ft jumpers vs 3 pointers?
no, I think I said in the comments that the midrange should be mixed in as everything else is. It just can’t be relied upon for 65% of your offense.
#52

by Cablinasian on Apr 26, 2010 11:34 PM PDT up reply actions
if it is, then you have the Suns minus Amare…
Amare shoot jumpers and people yell at him to go to the hoop.
LmA shoot jumpers and we yell at him to go behind the 3
fiftytwo
First, Amare’s a lot more accurate a jump shooter, and second, because he’s insanely efficient and takes fewer jumpers than LMA.
#52
"We have nothing to lose." - Martell
by Cablinasian on Apr 26, 2010 11:39 PM PDT up reply actions
he’s more accurate because he shoots it closer.
so i could argue that LMA should step 2 feet in versus 3 feet out
i just think it’s a silly argument since Nate won’t implement it in his offense.
i agree a mix should be in play but seems a bit heavy handed in this thread
fiftytwo
c’mon BRP, I was comparing their accuracy on HoopData’s long 2s. HE’s shot like 46% over the last four years to LMA’s 40%.

We would love it if LMA got most of his points inside
And we would all greatly encourage it.
I do not think it is a realistic expectation though, since he never has done it and doesn’t seem suited for it. The jumper will always be the majority of his shots.
Accepting that, we should make his jumper more dangerous by making a bigger chunk if his jumpers from 3 point land, ya dig?
#52
hahaah i know that, i’m just joshing and helping ark out.
but again, Nate won’t do that.
i guaransheed it

coincidentally, I also have Nate issues.

I think part of the problem is
We don’t think LMA will ever get most of his points or shots inside, like Amare could.
So, accepting that, and that he won’t get to the line much, we hope he shoots 3s, to become a more efficient offensive weapon.
#52
the point is not him taking threes, the point is him being more efficient.

I just think that the mid range game in general is an outlet. If you have it but use the other areas to get most of your points, you’re unstoppable. If you only use the mid-range game…

LMA shoots 40% from long 2. That means it’s a fail every time a possession is used that way. I don’t mind some, but five per game with no corner threes is dumb. The Spurs exploited the corner three.
bigs who shoot mainly midrange jumpers aren’t huge magnets for titles.

he threw his hip into miller there. it would be one thing if he tripped, but check his feet, he didn’t. then as he slides to the floor he throws his hands up and looks at the refs like he was the one accosted.
amare’s reaction afterward is telling (not shown in this clip). he smugly walks away from an irate miller with his back turned like he always does when he gets away with a cheap shot.

Colbert is really funny tonight
Let’s just say that his send-up of both the AZ law and the NV Repub that wants folks to trade chickens for medical care are hilarious.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
So this bugs me about the Blazers.
In every rec league game i play, since I get hacked alot going to the hoop, I would intentionally foul some guy going for a layup so hard, that i end up landing on him, then kneeing him in the stomach on my way down. i would get a warning but then my counter is that they always hack so i get away with it. this undoubtedly leads to about a couple scuffles a game and a technical every other game by me.
instead of fouling like a wuss, why can’t the blazers foul hard anytime you know you gonna get a foul called.
that just irritates me to no end.

Difference between the NBA now and the NBA when we were growing up
Now that is a flagrant, back then it was normal play.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Only if you have a reputation for doing so
There is an art to hard fouls to be sure. Dre actually had a new hard foul on Amare in this game.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
its weird
thursday could be the end to this season from hell. it seems like our team has never given up and fought threw all the adversity and i have so much confidence in our guys just because they could have said “screw it” all season but they fought back. they didnt let greg going down break them, they didnt let joel going down break them, they didnt let brandon going down break them. they always were able to fight threw it and come out on top, and after everything has happened and their backs are against the wall, I feel like they can do it again.
Hello ladies. Look at your man. Now look at Brandon Roy. Now back at your man. Now back to Brandon Roy. Sadly, he is not Brandon Roy.
they will. this will happen.
they win game 6.
then the Suns pull out Robin Lopez for Game 7 and lose to us by 17

The Suns can enjoy this year
They aren’t winning the title with that team and they’re probably headed down after next year if not this year if they lose Amare.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
They'll win Thursday and probably lose Saturday
Its funny, if you had asked me before this series if that was okay I’d say yes but after winning game 1 it feels strangely unfulfilling even if it shouldn’t.
We’ve accomplished a ridiculous amount with everything placed in our way.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
dammit JC
thinkin just like me
The Suns aren’t a likable bunch.
They talk trash. They act tough. Center Amare Stoudemire fashions himself the baddest dude in a series that could be titled, “No Country for Old Men.”
On Monday, Portland gathered the 4,000 tickets it had available for Game 6, put them on sale to the public, and closed up shop 15 minutes later. Meanwhile, the Phoenix fans show up late to games, leave early, and didn’t bother to sell out Game 5. Which is only to say, I’m not sure they can understand why you’d still believe the Blazers can force a Game 7.
They’re not like you. When it comes to dreams, you own. And they rent.
We’d all love nothing more than to see a winner-take-all finale to this series. A one-game tossup back in Phoenix. To see what the Suns might do, pushed to the brink of elimination by an undermanned team that, for months, has refused to allow the season to end.
Yeah, I’m asking you if you believe there will be a Game 7. And the minute I type that sentence I realize it’s the wrong question. Rather, how can you not believe?

I barely did to be honest. We blew our best chance in the 4th quarter of game 4.

I actually thought morgue was the standout best choice of jobs there.
Although, to be honest, I had no idea what a roustabout was until 2 minutes ago and now I am thinking that is the best job on there. But there is nothing bad about working at a morgue. Death is a lot easier to face than most people figure. But most importantly -
- working at a motel 6 would be scarier and more gross
- working at a shari would be annoying
- working at walmart = working at a turkish prison
- working for the state of az only works if they don’t arrest you for being illegal first

And you know rule 1 of the Blazers playoff runs
We are not allowed to lose in round 2, only in rounds 1, 3 and 4.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Nash would really have to step it up
In the second round, in terms of scoring. He’s lost his touch except on FTs a lot this series.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
nah, don’t see how they can guard Dirk and offset the rebounding of Haywood (if RC plays him) and the Matrix
fiftytwo
They double Dirk like the Spurs are doing.
And what the Suns are doing to LMA. The Mavs secondary cast is not good enough in my opinion.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Plus, Amare and Frye are complete mismatches for their frontline.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
The Suns are a tough out
Because they have so many pure shooters.
They can beat anyone, its also why they can lose to anyone.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Is Damp and Haywood gonna recover to guard him at the 3pt line?
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Dirk would probably guard Frye anyways.
Which means a giant feast for Nash/Amare pick n rolls.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
and Barbosa would probably do well against Terry. He isn’t good enough to sway a series. The Suns would get the Mavs in six or seven.

I could repeat our starting lineup bit in my sleep for now
When I go to games I always mimic Mark Mason and then have my little additional thing I do for each player.

Wow, on that awful Blazer fan apology thread Seth Pollack just asked all Blazer fans to stop visiting BSotS. Done and done.
I can’t believe that guy is the editor. Just ridiculous. He starts all this crap with that Hate thread, then starts banning people, and now just asks all blazer fans to never come there anymore. What a tool. He didn’t even try to calm the waters at any point with a main page post asking blazer fans to be more respectful, or telling BSotS’ers to not immediately attack blazer fans when they visit.

I’m hypothesizing that…people who watch national broadcasts complain less about refereeing than those who watch local broadcasts. Whatcha think?

i watched the TNT broadcast last night and i complained about the refs. i get that it’s lame to complain about officiating, but i really did think it was pretty blatantly once sided last night.
in general, though, i would agree with you. especially with the Mike’s, as most of their commentary consists of talking about the officiating in one way or another.

i'm not saying you wont complain ever
but overall you’ll complain less bc you dont have the homer broadcaster putting thoughts in your head. i’ve noticed in games i’ve attended my perception of the game was vastly different than my friends who were watching at home and texting me.
