Miller doesn't fit with Portland. He'll never fit. You know it. I know it. The Blazers players know it. And even though Miller's been successful on the court in spurts, and played lots of minutes, all along this Miller-Blazers marriage was headed toward a blow-up encounter that was fueled by mutual frustration.

Lets all take this moment and enjoy this win and this hilarious/ironic/horrible article Canzano wrote back in January about Andre Miller.

There is a reason
he lives up to his name and reputation, he knows very little about the subjects he spouts off about. Just a wanna b shock jock. If you listen to him for free, you get exactly what you pay for.
...
Yup, I hate to be mean but I do not believe in drama queen journalism. The day I read this article I thought it was funny and every game it makes me laugh even more, especially looking at Andre Miller being consistent his whole career.

Canzano in full back-pedal mode now.
He’s putting NFL DBs to shame at this point.
"I think he’s been doing some good things. I think he’s been doing some good things. He’s had to play a lot of minutes lately with Blake being out. I think he’s been doing some good things." -Nate McMillan
This is how the article starts:
“Blame Trail Blazers point guard Andre Miller if you want today. Or blame coach Nate McMillan. Or maybe, as was suggested by a friend of mine, blame the carpenters for installing the thin doors at the practice facility that allowed multiple media members to overhear a troubling exchange between player and coach on Thursday.
But before all that, blame Trail Blazers management. "
He should have summed it up by saying: “but ultimately blame me for being such an attention-seeking w***e”

...
The best quote of the article in my opinion actually…
Management would have you believe that what transpired on Thursday in Tualatin is a normal, healthy part of regular NBA dialogue. That growth and understanding will come from shouting and cussing, and that the media is overblowing the incident. That’s what they’ll attempt to sell to you, and to owner Paul Allen. And if they’re not ready to get real this situation will never fix itself.
What’s true is that general manager Kevin Pritchard, who made so many good decisions before the strange signing of Miller, caused this crisis and must now fix it.
The bold part is something I will never forget. IRONY

such an attention-seeking w***e"/strong>
All you need to say about our friend John. You know what they say, “If you are going to walk the streets you need to learn to where high heals.”
If Canzano was at good at offering insight into sports as he is figuring out an angle, he would actually be good.

He definitely fits better than the beat up Roy we had for the 2nd half of the season.
However, Bayless, Martell, and Rudy are not improvements over a beat up Roy right now. (credit to Bayless stepping up last night)
Dear Canzano
Suck it.

This is beautiful...
… right up there with his “Draft the Stache” campaign instead of Brandon Roy because the city deserves it.
And don’t forget when he thought Paul Allen was such a horrible, vile person that he volunteered to personally pack his bags if he’d sell the team and leave Portland.

Yes. Quick too often gets a pass
Just because he’s less obnoxious than the Baldheaded Twerp (and writes competently) doesn’t mean he’s tolerable. We Blazer fans—and the team—deserve better than these self-important hacks.

living it up
“There is a reason he lives up to his name and reputation, he knows very little about the subjects he spouts off about.”
When you say he lives up to his name, you do realize his real name is not actually Clownzano?
the biggest absurdity
The thing that was most absurd about that article by the Clown was that in my view it’s not even a situation where he had a case to make but was subsequently proven wrong by how well Miller played in the latter part of the season.
Miller in my view had already played a crucial role in keeping the Blazers alive at the time of the article.
...
Management would have you believe that what transpired on Thursday in Tualatin is a normal, healthy part of regular NBA dialogue. That growth and understanding will come from shouting and cussing, and that the media is overblowing the incident.
Another thing about this quote that just made me sick was the fact in 2007 when the Blazers went on a 13 game winning streak the big thing that caused it was a big argument involving the team that resulted in Steve Blake throwing a chair and players cussing at eachother. This sparked something and changed everything and since then the Blazers are up and coming and the rose garden has sold out every game since.
So yes the media was overblowing the incident with Miller. There is no denying it anymore. LONG LIVE ANDRE MILLER

He has already admitted to eating crow over this issue.
He’s talked about it on several occasions on his show. He knows he was wrong.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
Perhaps... but he doesn't change
He’s been wrong a number of times. And he probably has admitted it each time.
What I don’t like—in fact, find reprehensible—is that he doesn’t change his yellow-journalistic style of pitchfork rabble-rousing the next time something rolls around. During the Tom Penn issue, he was once again railing against Paul Allen—as if he hadn’t six weeks before lauded himi as the greatest owner in sports—only 12 months after offering to pack his bags for him.
In order to be truly wrong and recalcitrant, you have to first have a committed position (he doesn’t, he just wants to inflame) and second, change (which he clearly hasn’t).
Instead, he continues to exhibit everything wrong with sports media.

I agree.
However, to be a collumnist in his position, you can’t make middle of the road, audience appeasing statements and expect to be respected as a journalist. If you pander to the crowd, you’re seen as spineless and a sell out.
While many of his opinions have been wrong, I applaud him for not taking the easy road and simply copping out and saying what fans want to hear.
You also have to keep in mind that situations change. If Paul Allen changes his attitude/beliefs/actions, doesn’t that give Canzano a right to change his opinion of him? It’s not unlike being a fan of the Blazers… I wasn’t big on the acquisition of Miller, but I’ve come around. I don’t see why changing of opinions, or “flip-flopping” as most people call it, is a bad thing.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
Is he respected & by who
I quit reading his crap years ago, wouldn’t have even known about that article if it wasn’t posted here.
Somebody step up! - Mike Rice
well, he won the 2009 sports journalist of the year award
so obviously some people respect him.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
Had you ever heard of that award before The Baldheaded Twerp started touting his having won it?
I’ll bet that if you were to research that award you’d learn that it’s an industry joke. Kinda like the Golden Globes used to be when they were outright bought & paid for.
I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.
You too, Przy: everyone knows you're the heart & soul of the Blazers.
All he does is pander to the crowd
When fans are happy, JC tells them they should be happy. When fans are panicked, JC pushes the panic button harder. That’s his whole schtick: he just tries to validate popular opinion. That’s why he is wrong so often, because he just goes along with the most emotionally unstable fans.
Wait
While many of his opinions have been wrong, I applaud him for not taking the easy road and simply copping out and saying what fans want to hear.
So penning an article (that he quite obviously had no first-hand knowledge about) regarding a blow-up argument between a polarizing player (at the time) and his coach isn’t taking the easy road? Seems to me that the story pretty much wrote itself, no? “Not taking the easy road” would have been defending Andre Miller and realizing his value to the team as a leader. But, then again, I think John is just another writer who probably has never been involved with a single athletic team-oriented activity in his life, so he wouldn’t know good leadership if it smacked him in the face.

Hey lets be fair
A LOT OF BE’ers said similar things! I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I don’t blame Canzano for this. The Blazers were not using him correctly for most of the season. Starting Blake was an absolute joke. Playing Bayless equal minutes was even worse. Roy complaining about him from the second he got to the city was equally unfair and immature.
it wasn’t until the blow up with McMillan in January , that McMillan started using him correctly. if he wouldn’t have changed it then I would not be surprised if Blake was still here and we would not have Camby.

Hey, you know, it makes you wonder doesn't it?
What if Andre didn’t blow up at Nate? Would things still “work themselves out?”
I don't recall Roy complaining
He expressed doubts about him, yes, but it’s unlike Roy to complain about anything.
he actively campaigned to not have him start
that’s more or less saying he didn’t want to play with him.
yup
honestly i still dont feel like andre and roy play “well” together…they’ve just found a way to coexist is all. seems like andre has better chemistry with everyone on the team than he does with roy

Because they can both create their own shots
Andre can set up every other player on the roster on the offense, but Roy doesn’t need that. He’s capable of creating his own shots. As a result, Andre doesn’t rack up a ton of assists on Roy. But Roy has never needed someone who can “assist him.” Andre was brought in so they could have another penetrator to help get points, as well as boost the offense. So Roy and Andre coexisting is pretty much their way of geling. And we’re such a dangerous team because they’ve found a way to do so. I love it!
well travis created his own shots as well
but there seemed to be more harmony with those 2…i’m not so certain its that they can create their own shots, but bc they both dominate the ball and that they play at different paces.

It's a combination of both
But you’re right, it’s more so that both dominate the ball.
I wouldn’t say they have any chemistry issues though: http://www.columbian.com/weblogs/blazerbanter/2010/apr/04/roy-miller-develop-blind-trust-and-blazers-follow/
i'm not saying its bad chemistry
i’m just saying that andre seems to have better harmony with everyone on the team than he does with roy….he had better chemistry with camby the very first day he donned a portland jersey (yes i know they used to be teammates), than he has had with roy all year.

His radio show is a waste
He does not like to focus on pure sports for his show. Always looks for the human element or some special controversey. What about the events from a SPORTS angle? I much prefer when canzano is not on the show. Barrett or anyone else is better. At least they talk about sports.

I honestly don't hate Canzano
but he does tend to way overreact.
After the Boise St and Purdue games, the Ducks weren’t going to make a bowl game but after the USC game we were the best team in the country.
A couple months ago it was “the Blazers should play the L*kers because there was absolutely no chance we’d get out of the first round anyway.”
He is a drama queen.
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

He has a simple algorithm
He looks on message boards for what emotional fans are saying, and he writes a column to tell them how justified their emotions are. His reporting mostly consists of telling us how the situation “feels” (probably his favorite word).
Which saves him the trouble of actually thinking or researching reality over emotion
"I'm passing it down," Howard said. "Showing the guys that, hey, here's an example of a guy who played 16 years. If you don't want to listen and get the valuable, free information from him - soak it up like a sponge - then you've got to be a damn fool."
you have to admit, the man is consistent
it’s remarkable that he can be wrong 100 percent of the time. i don’t think i could do that even if i was trying to be on purpose. purely amazing.

Thanks for posting this
I really hope JC reads this thread and reacts to it on air.
Very often he speaks before thinking on the BFT which can be very entertaining, it’s why I tune in, I love the spontaneity. However, when he wrote this column I was wondering if he was losing his mind or if he just wanted to be critical to create contention among Blazer fans. That’s not hindsight talking either. I think most people understood the benefit of having a seasoned vet like Miller at PG. Even if they were skeptical I never heard anyone else saying that he’ll never fit and that the whole organization knows it.
There was another article John wrote questioning BRoy’s leadership because he was going into the tunnel during the national anthem to pray. To me it seemed obvious that JC was just trying to get under people’s skin.
John can be provocative and create healthy debate but when he makes sensational remarks like these he loses credibility in my eyes and goes from “60 minutes” to “TMZ”.
Mess with the game, it'll mess with you.
I think it's easy to hate most journalists
and they will always be wrong. Even when they are right you can usually find something that contradicts them.
