An interesting year it has been to say the least, the ripple of the offseason non signings and even more important the signings that occurred last summer progressed into a tsunami of tumultuous times for all of the Blazers organization.
What can you say besides WOW what a year it has been and if the trends of this year still continue through the playoffs, this should make for a very memorable playoffs lets hope, or lets hope its not at all. What we are thinking is going to happen is probably not going to happen....that is what this season has taught me anyway.
Those non signings....while the impact intentional or not, determined the outcome of this season. I'm almost certain that last summer is partially to blame for the Tom Penn firing and KP in hot water. This the most underestimated circumstance of the season. What happened behind closed doors in the Vulcan arena one can only speculate. With that being said history will be described in the next few passages in my point of view...take it as you will.
The ripple effect. Life is full of ripple effect. Hindsight is always 20/20 and we always say we should have done this or we should have done that. It's always what we don't see that truly affects our lives and our perception of the reality before us. This year we went into the season with very high expectations...all of us. There are sooo many variables that we don't take into consideration, that we can't take into consideration. Who knew that entering into the offseason last year with Hedo as the headliner in free agency that he would be a complete bust and that Andre Miller would be the steal of the free agent market. Sure there might be a few that would say otherwise, after all it isn't the 2010 class anyway...but we wanted to make a nice splash by saying lets make a deal. What a godsend we didn't get Hedo!
That was the beginning of the ripple effect. Next was Milsap...we all knew we weren't going to get him but it was a nice maneuver to get a fellow classmate into a bit of a bind.
The true effect was the fact of injuries...at the beginning of the season we were as deep as they come. Two deep at every position, three deep at some. Our problem was how are we going to get enough playing time for everyone. Then came the injuries, then more injuries, then more injuries and it continues. What Nate and his staff has done thus far is nothing short of miraculous.
Will Rudy, Martel, Bayless, Daunte and even LaMarcus make the most of their opportunity this playoff to make it a memorable one?
Talk to me Portland....who is your X factor, is your glass half empty or half full?
