Patty's contract situation?
- Does playing in ten games give him a guaranteed contract for next year?
- What does this mean for Patty going forward?
- Why the tenth game now?
- Was this the correct move?
- Does this have anything to do with the KP situation?

Well
1) No
2) I’m not sure what you mean by ‘this’. Does ‘this’ you mean that he played in 10 games? Does ‘this’ refer to the possibility of him having a second year guaranteed, as you asked about in the first question? Something else?
3) Because it was the last game of the season and Nate wanted to rest Miller. Also he had played in nine games previously, so this made ten.
4) Again, not sure what you mean by ‘this’. Does ‘this’ mean allowing him to play last night? Does ‘this’ mean that his contract is only for one season? Something else?
5) Since Patty signed his deal months before the supposed ‘KP situation’, I’d say no.
Here, in a nutshell, is what happened last summer, as I understand it. After drafting Mills, the Blazers had to make what is called a “required tender” to him (as well as to Cunningham and Pendergraph) to keep his rights. That required tender is a one year contract offer for the minimum salary. Both Pendergraph and Cunningham rejected the required tender in favor of signing contracts for multiple seasons. But Mills accepted the tender offer, so he will be a free agent this summer.
If Portland gives Mills a qualifying offer of $937,195 then he will be a restricted free agent. If the team chooses not to make a qualifying offer, then he will be an unrestricted free agent.

Thanks
Other contract observers on this site had stated earlier that ten games would kick in a guaranteed second year on Patty’s contract. They stated it in the following manner, “If he plays in ten games, then he will have a second year guaranteed.” (This was in connection with the Travis Diener signing.) It looks like some people were taking liberties with the facts. Oh well, thanks again!
