Stop being realistic!

With Roy hurt right now I am DEFINITELY slurping some Kool-Aid when I say Blazers in 6… but it’s delicious Kool-Aid… and I’m going to get some mileage out of this series and have fun.

And at least if we lose

It’ll be to a team I don’t hate.

I don't LIKE the Suns at all... but I'll admit, I don't hate them.

WC teams I hate are L*kers (for obvious reasons), Utah (barf), Denver (Melo/Birdman/barf) and OKC (because stealing our PNW rival is not cool).

Blazers in 6...

…don’t ask me to swear to this under oath. Because for the playoffs I become a total homer. Go Blazers!

Suns fan here

If the Blazers were healthy, I’d say Blazers in 7. However, with the injury to Roy, I’m going to have to go homer, and say Suns in 6.

by jburning on Apr 15, 2010 11:39 AM PDT reply actions

Well, you're wrong.

Go Blazers.

Seriously though, my prediction of Blazers in 6 hinges on Roy being able to return by Game 3 with the Blazers with at least one win in hand… I’d love to see it happen. Either way, expecting a good series. The suns look good right now.

by ArbyOSU on Apr 15, 2010 11:42 AM PDT up reply actions

If the Blazers were healthy...

They’d have won 60 games like we all thought they would. Instead, they won 50. So, health doesn’t matter so much if a mostly injured team wins 5/6ths as much as a fully healthy one. Why count the Blazers out for that reason?

These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx

Maybe not 60

But we’re probably the 2 or 3 seed in the west.

I dunno...

Full season of Oden + Joel+ Batum+Outlaw and 20 more games from Roy? I’d say close to 60 as well. Remember how Greg was playing before he got injured and how bad the perimeter defense was with Batum and Outlaw out? I’d think Greg would play better as season wore on rather than worse, as young players tend to do and as Miller and Roy started to work well together.

i am on board with this completely

heck, keep greg out and bring back Roy for the 17 he missed, we win at least, AT LEAST, 3 of those that we lost if he wasn’t out

I'm not saying the suns have had a rougher injury year

But we have had our share of injuries. In fact all the teams have faced adversity of one type or another.

right

I was simply replying to the statement that the blazers had a good shot at 60 wins if we were not so decimated.

Hoping for Blazers in 7 . . .

feeling like Suns in 6.
I can see the Blazers winning this series though. We’ll have to see what they learned from last year and how Nate does his match-ups. To much Howard, we lose. Use Dante wisely, we have a chance.

To summarize: Wade too quick, Kobe too skilled, LeBron too physical - Batum

by Ltlgto on Apr 15, 2010 11:52 AM PDT reply actions

so you're saying

that Dante is the key to our playoff series? I agree that we’ve been seeing a little too much Juwan in the middle dropping passes and such. But my hope would be for more Camby.

by musicdaniel on Apr 15, 2010 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

no

just that I’d rather see Dante covering (pretty much anybody) than Juwon. Juwon’s been a big part of the team this season, but he’s not going to “fit” in this series. The energy that Pendy and Dante can bring could be a big asset against the Suns.

I live in Phoenix

Went to both games down here and the Suns were a quarter away from getting swept in the season series, Brandon didn’t play in the first game here and the Blazers were up 24 on them, the second game Brandon had a horrible shooting game and was a total non-factor, Camby was just getting adjusted to the new team and the Blazers still almost beat the Suns here, went down to the last two minutes.
The Blazers play defense like a young Spurs team, we all know how much the Suns like to play the Spurs.

If I put on a Spain jersey and dunk in Dwight Howard's face, they give me a "50"- Rudy Fernandez.

Injury factors

Roy’s done for the playoffs. Let’s just accept it. We wouldn’t want him trying to play and he can’t do that. Rudy needs to have a good series, stay in his role in the offense while making plays where he can, and play solid D.

That doesn’t mean that the Blazers are done, of course. In fact, the Robin Lopez injury is a big factor in this series, too. Collins and Frye playing center for Phoenix? My goodness, thank you, yes please. LaMarcus and Camby need to be forces inside on both ends of the floor and prove that the two of them are too much for Amar’e, Collins, and Frye. That’s realistic, too, I think. Blazers need to slow this series down and take it at the interior defense of the Suns. If they can do that, they can certainly win. Of course, there are other factors, but that’s a big part of it, I think.

Hollinger says Suns in 5

A young & experienced, talented team with nothing to lose...

Blazers in 6 without Roy early;
Blazers in 7 with Roy back too soon.

Huh?

Sit Roy for games one and two or his injury will probably hamper their ability to steal a couple in Phoenix. Let him rest and recover and bring him back for game three, when [a little] healthier to protect homecourt.

I just don’t see the Shadows as that good of a team and I think the match-ups are the best for Blazers compared to Utah or Denver.

by GustyJ on Apr 15, 2010 1:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Especially in the playoffs, the team that controls the boards and wins the T/O battle will come through.

Why? More possessions overall. Because of Blazers’ superiority in both facets due to addition of Camby, I expect us to have a decided advantage in # of possessions…probably 10 to 15 per game. If this holds true, (who knows? Camby might all the sudden forget to rebound while Stoudemire and Frye all the sudden go crazy) Phoenix would have to shoot an ungodly % to win the series.

Also, given how the defense has looked ever since Camby and Batum joined the team, as well as our ability to switch everything, I like our chances even without Roy. Unlike last year with Houston, this is the best matchup we can hope for since if there is one team that we can outmuscle in a slow-paced slam dance that is the playoffs, it’s the Suns.

My X-factor for this series is Camby, not Roy. His defense on Stoudemire and his rebounding is what will allow us to win the series. I expect at least one 20 rebounds game from Camby this series. I’d also start Martell over Rudy do to his superior defense as well the fact that Martell just plays much, much better as a starter.

Game 1 – Suns (Blazers nervous, away, shots not falling) 1-0
Game 2 – Blazers (Get over the nerves, play solid D, Shoot better) 1-1
Game 3 – Suns (Blazers nervous again due to raucus home crowd, shooting sucks again) 2-1
Game 4 – Blazers (Get it together with crowd and have a blowout) 2-2
Game 5 – Suns (One more for the home team, close game) 3-2
Game 6 – Blazers (Home team is pumped along with crowd, good win!) 3-3
Game 7 – Blazers (Everything on the line and Blazers got no quit in them, good game but the Suns go down in a tight game) 3-4 Blazers move on to the second round against the Mavs…samo, samo?

by PoliSam on Apr 15, 2010 3:30 PM PDT reply actions

Blazers in 6

Steve Nash gets abused on the post, Martell and Rudy feed off the doubling of Andre and/or LA in the post. Marcus Camby prevent defense on Amar’’’’’’’e , Nick and LA strip the ball as STAT tries to drive from the top of the key, the only place he is able to get the ball. Channing Frye needs to be open to hit his three from the top of the key. Nic is long and quick enough to guard Sprite. All good things for our shut down defense.

Long story short, the playoffs are physical and the Blazers can play that game, and the Suns just can’t. Blazers in an easy 6.

You're saying that they look like they're giving it their all. And you know why they look that way? Because they're bad, and it literally takes them the maximum physical effort to accomplish basic baseball tasks like throwing the ball from short to first. When David Eckstein throws the ball to first base, he has to wind up like a shot-putter, spin around forty-three times, and launch it at an angle 89 degrees from the horizontal. Afterwards, he undergoes an IV drip for a fortnight and he's so out of breath that he requires several months of acupuncture to regain the power of speech. For this we laud him. -Junior of Deadspin on 'scrappy' players
