What a difference some D can make (with poll)
Hi all.
I'm another one of those long time reader first time posters (LTRFTP?). As it's more or less the end of the season, I just thought I would throw my 2 cents into the BEdge pot. These cents regard defense, and players that play it...particularly new players...who wear the #21.
Gosh, defense is a beautiful thing. Defense sparks offense, and those that play it well (I feel) are the most valuable players on a team. Don't hate me, but that's what I think Camby, Batum and the Inferno (when he plays) are. These guys hustle, fill holes, crash boards, hit the floor and generally cause everyone around them to play with more heart. I have yet to see either of them not come to play...which, sadly, I've seen more than I've wanted to from other Balzers. I've seen pretty much every game this year (which albeit is not that many from Camby), but it seems pretty evident to me that the Blazers act much more like a true team when either one, two, or (dare I say it?) all three are on the floor. So essentially, I see these two/three guys as essential to the on-court team chemistry, and the addition of Camby and increased run for Batum is the biggest reason that the Blazers have been on such a tear lately.
(And in unrelated news:)
Anybody recall that Darius Miles guy? Well Darius, it's been fun, but I think it's about time we stop paying you the equivalent of 10 neurosurgeon's annual salaries to NOT PLAY BALL FOR US. Have a good life. We shall commence rejoicing now.
Poll:
Since I've heard talk about who we might HAVE to play a lot, but not very much regarding who we would WANT to play (maybe I've just been out of the loop), I decided to make a poll (my very first one!).

Balzers
I like it. It was prolly a typo but I like it anyway.
FINALLY DARIUS IS HISTORY!!!!!!! :)
Yes, I want Camby to stay.
I think Boozer got hurt last night, I don’t know how serious it is but if he is out for the playoffs I really want the Jazz.
Otherwise I want to play Dallas, but that won’t happen because the Spurs will rest players tonight, and we will win anyway.
It’s down to the Jazz-Suns game and if Boozer is out and after last night’s domination I think the Suns pull it out and play us in the first round.

Resume rivalry
I’d like the Blazers to face Dallas to finish the rivalry that began with the strange game last week. It would be more gratifying to play a team with emotion and intensity.
I’m too scared of both Utah and Denver.
Phoenix would be fun to see, for this could be the last of Nash playing at a top level.

You left Webster off your list
Sometimes his shot isn’t falling, but the dude is pure hustle on the floor, and I’m going to call it a tie with Batum for best wing defender.
But, to your main point, if the Blazers ever buy in to the idea of putting their focus and energy on the defensive side of the court, that is the path to a championship.
I agree with you
but he developed a bad rep on D early on in his stay in Portland. Most Blazer fans still regard him as a defensive liability or, if not that, then at least tend not to give him much credit for the D he does provide…
I remember when I started watching the Blazers after the Oden draft, webster was bashed constantly for playing bad D, when I felt it was pretty solid. Frankly this season he has been far more than solid at times. He is giving some of the stars fits out there. Personally I am glad to see his minuted picking up some lately.
That Aldridge, Batum, Camby , Miller, Webster line up sure looked good at the end of that OKC game the other night!
