Yes, That Really Does Make Fifty Wins

This is to everyone who wrote this season off or gave up on this team at some point.

This is to the guy who said we were more likely to finish with less than 48 wins than 60, because any key injuries would destroy any chance of getting to 50.

Star-divide

We just won in LA.  Without Brandon Roy, Greg Oden, and Joel Przybilla

We just came back the next night, missing those same guys, and beat an OKC team that is led by the NBA scoring champion and is going to hit 50 wins.

Did you ever say, "This season's over" or "this team is done"?

This season will never be over.  I'll remember this season the rest of my life.

I wish AK were around

He’d willingly eat crow on that one, and I’d willingly feed him lots of it.

Closer to 48? So far, yes. I figure we beat GS, get four against Utah, four against Dallas, and 3 in the WCF, to take us to 62, my prediction at the start of the year. At which point I would forever regret that I didn’t predict 67.

While this season has been....interesting to say the least

I would look back at the last 3 years as all truly amazing in their own ways:

2007-08= After the enthusiasm of winning the lotto, and the heartbreak of losing Oden in preseason, many, including myself were dreaming of a shot at Derrick Rose and going into the lottery, yet the amazing 13 game December winning streak fueled the playoff fervor only to fad in the end. Still the first time over .500 felt damn good.

2008-09= THIS was the year we got Oden back and while mostly disappointing, this was the first time he had to actually work on his game with no restrictions. Too bad it was during the NBA season and not the offseason. The revelations that were Rudy and Nic and the freight train we became after the all star break, even getting home court in the playoffs only to face our worst matchup and bow out, hungry for more after our first taste.

2009-10= THIS was the year everything was to come together, only to have it so derailed by such a staggering amount of injuries. The roller coaster ride this season was/is. Even though Brandon is hurt and may miss the playoffs, after all the crap we have been through this year, it’s like,

“Oh another injury to a key player, whatever. We’ve been through this before and we got it.”

NOTHING surprises me this year and each of the past 3 years have ALL been some of the most memorable in record.

Bayless and Roy= Fire and Ice (TM)

It's been a good three year run, indeed

Next year we will crack that 60 mark, especially if Marcus comes back. Can you imagine how the paint will shut down when LMA goes to the bench and Greg and Marcus are playing the 4-5, with Nic’s long arms at the 3?

well i said we didnt have a chance without a center (in between nate bashings)

sorry nate i take everything back. had we got one earlier i think we would have done even better, had we not our season would have been over a week ago. i brush aside the without … and … cause we have a center right now that is everything we hoped greg would be in a couple years or at least by now. that being said and looking to the future after the sonics spend 15+ mill on someone else good. i like our prospects with this team we saw tonite plus a heathy(?) greg and brandon…and joel

Hey J . . .

I predicted the Blazers would finish 60-22. I guess
51-31 is pretty good with the injury struggles. At this
point it’s all about the 2nd season. Perhaps the fellas
will play better without BRoy. Less standing around
waiting for him to make his move. Dr. Jack & I would love to

Yeah, i was right up there with you in terms of prediction

I found it funny that KP2 did some math and stated Oden adds +12 or 13 wins (whatever it was) that closely equaled my projection of what our season should have been.

I’m proud of this blazer team. I also hope they come back healthy next year and can stay there. Next year is likely the last year I give Oden a free pass.

"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.

But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"

in the half I watched against OKC. Good stuff, they looked like a team on offense instead of four guys waiting for one guy to do something good.

My prediction was 62 wins. We’ll never know what it would have been, of course.

So you think you can come back for the playoffs after all the heavy lifting of the regular season is over? Well, your little vacation goes to show that we can win no matter who is on the injured list.

Just remember, this time of year, we don’t want a whole lot of outside shots taken—you are going to have to be willing to get in the paint—willing to do the dirty work . We need the inside scoop, jscot. This is going to require you to do some low-posting. My question is, “Are you up to it, are you man enough to own the paint in the playoffs?”
